Early this week, a man wearing a "No on 8" button was beaten with a "Yes on 8" lawn sign in Torrance, CA.
Police are characterizing the assault as a possible hate crime.
The beater, 23-year old Joseph Storm, is scheduled to appear in the Torrance Superior Court today, Wednesday, for arraignment on a felony charge of a hate crime assault and a misdemeanor count for interfering with another's exercise of civil rights.
Authorities did not identify the victim.
However, it was mentioned that Storm had known the victim since junior high.
In the attack, Storm allegedly knocked the victim down with the Yes on 8 sign, then punched him in the face and choked him. He also called the victim a 'derogatory name for homosexuals' during the beating.
So sad.

The government and legislature needs to keep its nose out of people's personal lives and stick to keeping my job secure, my money viable, and my country safe. 1) Marriage is not just about sex. It is about finding the right person to compliment yourself and commiting yourself to that person for the rest of your life–man or woman.

4) Teacher's do not teach about marriage–any marriage in school.
5) If the church doesn't like gays marrying, fine. They can go get married at city hall or under another religion. So your religion can go on hating. We seriously don't care. It's your CHOICE to hate, and we aren't going to take away that civil liberty from you.
6) If you aren't being forced to marry a woman, if your church isn't being forced to marry gay people, and if your children aren't going to learn about it in school, then why on earth are you so unhappy about it? It isn't in any way touching your life. GET OVER YOURSELF.

I'm not remotely condoning the actions of Joseph Storm as all he's done is made himself and his cause look foolish, but I wonder why you would post this, Perez, but make no mention of the Oct. 14th assault on Jose Nunez while he was handing out "Yes on Prop 8" signs? Surely this is equally classifiable as a "hate crime" and is worth mention, no Mario?

If this is all about equal rights, then a yes vote won't end that. We all have equal rights at the moment-to marry someone of the opposite sex. No on 8 is for ADDITIONAL rights. Not having equal rights=sitting in the back of the bus=separate facilities=not having the right to vote. CA has domestic partner laws for heterosexual and homosexual couples. All that No on 8 gains is a dangerous prescient-that the courts can overturn voter approved measures on a whim. Don't be goated into a no vote for "equal rights." There is far more at stake than granting special rights to a high single to low double digit minority of the population.

We are all one and we have no right to deny the rights of others unless they are killing or hurting someone. All they want is a piece of paper and a ring to complete their love and you won't let them have that, you don't deserve to even have a heart or live on this planet.
