Poll finds 23% of Texans think Obama is Muslim
A University of Texas poll to be released this week shows Republican presidential candidate John McCain and GOP Sen. John Cornyn leading by comfortable margins in Texas, as expected. But the statewide survey of 550 registered voters has one very surprising finding: 23 percent of Texans are convinced that Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is a Muslim.
Obama is a Christian who was embroiled in a controversy earlier this year about his two-decade membership in Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ. Yet just 45 percent of those polled identified the Illinois senator as a Protestant.
The Obama-is-a-Muslim confusion is caused by fallacious Internet rumors and radio talk-show gossip. McCain went so far at one of his town hall meetings to grab a microphone from a woman who claimed that Obama was an Arab.
The Texas numbers are unusual because most national polls show that just 5 to 10 percent of Americans still believe Obama is a Muslim — less than half the number of Texans who buy into the debunked theories.
The UT poll shows McCain running ahead of Obama statewide, with a 51 percent to 40 percent margin. Cornyn, a first-term Republican from San Antonio, leads Rick Noriega, a state representative from Houston, 45 percent to 36 percent. Another 14 percent of voters remain undecided in the contest.
The poll found that 89 percent of Lone Star State voters say the country's economic situation is worse than a year ago. And President Bush and Congress both get record low marks.
Just 34 percent of Texans approve of Bush's job performance — a big change for a former governor who won re-election 10 years ago with 70 percent of the vote. And Congress is even more unpopular:
Just 8 percent of Texas voters approve of the work being done on Capitol Hill.
The telephone poll was conducted by the Texas Politics Project and Department of Government at The University of Texas at Austin. The poll was conducted from Oct. 15 to 22, and had a margin of error of 4.2 percentage points.

This does not surprise me in the least. I lived in Texas for over 18 years. Once a good old boy state always a good old boy state….. The only places that are diverse in Texas are the big cities Austin, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio….but the small po-dunk towns are very "racially" bias.

I would also like to throw out there something that people tend to forget (on purpose of course I'm sure), the economy and everything else started going into the crapper as soon as a Democrat led Congress was elected. So you can sit back and try to blame Republicans and President Bush for your wrong doings all you want, but maybe it's time you start taking a little of the blame for the things you have created instead of bashing Republicans all the time.

President Bush has been a good leader and has kept America safe from another attack from some crazy ass terrorist and has not backed down or changed the way he thinks just because it isn't "popular" with liberals. Who gives a crap what cocky loud mouthed liberals have to spew. It's getting really old. America sure as hell doesn't need a so-called leader like Obama who would sit down with terrorist countries and kiss their asses and talk about what a bully America is. America needs someone that will stand up for us and not throw us under the bus when it is convenient for them. People need to start standing up for America, and that definitely includes someone that is running for President of the USA. Instead of him lying and saying that our troops raided villages and killed civilians and saying how embarrassed he is of America and Americans, maybe he needs to figure out what it truly means to be an American and start standing up for his country and caring what happens to it and the people in it.
You can say that Republicans are ignorant all you want, but in the end you are the ignorant ones for voting for someone to run our country that has ties to anti-American & anti-Israel terrorists, ties to an anti-American racist preacher, and someone that lies just to get you to vote for them. So in the end, you are the ignorant ones for not seeing through his smooth talking, prompter reading, arrogant BS and lies.
Oh and you shouldn't consider people racist for being suspect of Muslims these days considering AT LEAST 95% of all terrorist attacks are from radical Muslims. It's called we would rather be safe than sorry. So instead of criticizing people that have a healthy fear of being killed by some crazy ass terrorist, how about you start condeming the terrorist for giving your so-called peaceful religion a bad name because as of right now the only proof anyone has is that it is made up of a majority of radical America hating terrorists. We don't have a lot of proof to the contrary so prove us wrong.
