Poll finds 23% of Texans think Obama is Muslim
A University of Texas poll to be released this week shows Republican presidential candidate John McCain and GOP Sen. John Cornyn leading by comfortable margins in Texas, as expected. But the statewide survey of 550 registered voters has one very surprising finding: 23 percent of Texans are convinced that Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is a Muslim.
Obama is a Christian who was embroiled in a controversy earlier this year about his two-decade membership in Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ. Yet just 45 percent of those polled identified the Illinois senator as a Protestant.
The Obama-is-a-Muslim confusion is caused by fallacious Internet rumors and radio talk-show gossip. McCain went so far at one of his town hall meetings to grab a microphone from a woman who claimed that Obama was an Arab.
The Texas numbers are unusual because most national polls show that just 5 to 10 percent of Americans still believe Obama is a Muslim — less than half the number of Texans who buy into the debunked theories.
The UT poll shows McCain running ahead of Obama statewide, with a 51 percent to 40 percent margin. Cornyn, a first-term Republican from San Antonio, leads Rick Noriega, a state representative from Houston, 45 percent to 36 percent. Another 14 percent of voters remain undecided in the contest.
The poll found that 89 percent of Lone Star State voters say the country's economic situation is worse than a year ago. And President Bush and Congress both get record low marks.
Just 34 percent of Texans approve of Bush's job performance — a big change for a former governor who won re-election 10 years ago with 70 percent of the vote. And Congress is even more unpopular:
Just 8 percent of Texas voters approve of the work being done on Capitol Hill.
The telephone poll was conducted by the Texas Politics Project and Department of Government at The University of Texas at Austin. The poll was conducted from Oct. 15 to 22, and had a margin of error of 4.2 percentage points.

It's easier to do that here, since we are ALL able to hide behind the computer screen!! LL was actually the one who brought me back down to earth. I was spewing all kinds of mess, and she was like hey, wait a minute, not all of us are this or that. It really got my attention. And especially since she was nice about it. I try to stay neutral but there are times I get naughty! It's fun and it's a way to relax and vent. I know that people who are new don't understand that there is a little "community" of people on here that already "know" each other. I think LC got the message that we don't like talking to people who insult and belittle us. People just need to clam down and debate like adults. If you start off calling someone a moron, then you've already lost the attention of the other poster. It just won't work.

Barack Obama is a Muslim. His father was a Muslim from Kenya, and his step father was an Indonesian Muslim. Young Barack studied in a Muslim school as a child in Jakarta. Not that there's anything wrong with that!
However- just because Barack later defected to a radical, black supremecist, liberation theology "Christian" church- that doesn't mean he is no longer Muslim.
For example- Madeleine Albect, the former secretary of state- was raised Catholic- but is still a Jew.
Catholics know that if you are born Catholic, and go to Catholic Schools- no matter if you denounce the Church later in life- Catholicism always stays with you- no matter what..

Ignore any attempt at reasonable diplomacy and attack any country that pisses us off (whether they did anything to us or not)
Build a wall with a lot of machine gun turrets and shoot all the Latinos comiing into the country to take our wonderful $5 per/hr jobs
Eliminate ANY regulations on guns and encourage all Americans to shoot first and ask questions later (like the poor kid who got shot by an AK47 while trick or treating)

I've lived in several different states, Texas being one of them. Texans, as a whole, are by far the dumbest people I've ever met. Most of them have low I.Q.'s and think that Texas is the best place in the world. They're so ignorant it's pathetic.

I just like to make one thing clear. Just because 23% of Texas voters (which is only around 2,933,101 of the 12,752,417 registered voters in Texas*) think that Obama is still Muslim does not mean that they are speaking for the rest of the Texas population. For someone to judge Texas as whole and call us “stupid fucks” is just down right hypocritical. I may not be an Obama supporter but my choice not to support him has nothing to do with his religion or his race. (I do know he is not Muslim.)
