Cancer survivor, advocate and Nanny alum Fran Drescher has just written this great editorial, which we think everyone should read!
She says:
"When did it become okay to discriminate? What country are we all living in anyway? I thought this was America, am I wrong?
Wake up folks before it’s too late! This country was founded on the premise of separation of church & state. And why do you suppose that was? Because back in the day of our forefathers, (ya know, the dudes who fought and died for our freedoms) life under an oppressive British empire was more than they could take.
Living in a “my way or the highway” nation sucked! Dictation, Denial and Discrimination was the name of the game until our founding fathers decided that they’d had it!
“Let freedom ring!”, they shouted. And a HUGE part of that freedom was of course separation of church and state. If you are truly an American, (and not some closeted fascist) you are part of the privileged few on the planet who get to live in a country that supports tolerance of diversity. Heck we celebrate it! We can be who we want to be, pray to whomever we choose to pray and live as equals regardless of gender, race, creed or sexual orientation.
To think that in this upcoming election there is actually a proposition to add an amendment to the California Constitution to legalize discrimination! Shame on us! This proposition is not about gay marriage; it’s about hate, discrimination and intolerance of diversity. It is wholesale, unadulterated hate-mongering and it MUST be snuffed out in a dramatic fashion at once to illustrate to those behind it that in America we embrace the neighbor who might be different from us and are proud of it!
So to all you TRUE Americans, get out there and vote on November 4th, and let’s reject hate.
Get all your friends, co-workers and relatives to vote too and make sure you vote NO on proposition 8.

Re: Frag The Paps – The reason that you have a mental reaction towards this is because you are taught this, not because it is wrong. If you slap your child on the hand for playing with knives, your child will have that same sort of reaction, your child will react differently. We are all faced with challenges when it comes to our children. You had to teach your child that lying is bad, or not to touch the hot stove, these are to protect them, but you are NOT protecting your children when you don't address serious issues with them. I have seen too often where so many people including gay people think like you, they begin to be ashamed of who we/they are, and they either live in the closet, or commit suicide or act crazy in parades, because they were also taught that being gay in unacceptable…this is what needs to be turned around, its just another issue, but an important one. Please dont Stereotype all gay people as people who float around in parades half naked, because that is a very small part of who we are..VERY SMALL. although I personally don't like to do that, but at the same time I understand it, because it a way to express yourself in a world that discriminates against you, almost like a way of saying "here I am" To say that all people gay people dance around in parades half naked is like saying that all black people are in gangs and all Mexican people smoke marijuana, its a stereotype. there are alot of classy gay guys like myself. (wink)
FRAGS, TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION, I WOULDNT TAKE MY KIDS AROUND ANYWHERE THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF BIKERS,GANG BANGERS OR CONCERT THATS HEAVY METAL.SO THERE ARE MANY HETRO PLACES I WOULDNT TAKE MY KIDS,BUT ONE THING ABOUT GAY PRIDE PARADES,THERE IS A LOT LESS VIOLENCE THEN WHEN THAT MANY STRAIGHT PEOPLE GET TOGETHER,SO MAYBE I WOULD, ANYWAY YOU ARE A DISGUSTING BIGOT,GET HELP. America is not a Christian country. A civil marriage by the government has nothing to do with a particular religion. It should matter zero fucking percent what some fake ass Christian fuckers think. Oh and FYI, Norway is one of the richest countries, and Scandavians are according to research the happiest people alive. Norway has so much oil they don't need to ""allegedly be searching for mass destruction weapons" and exept for the world wars with a couple of deaths, there have been no wars in this country. So. Re: Frag The Paps – My parents and relatives were as disappointed with my coming out as my best friend's parents were when she decided to marry a jew. It was not in their plan but they love their children. I wonder if you love your children enough? I wonder if you'll be tested someday and how your points of view will change? Chew on that.
I'm not even going to push the Marti Gras point because I don't agree with the public nudity at parades and fairs regardless of the theme. But, my friend, I was at the Bay to Breakers with plenty of kids when I saw some 60 year old granny running across the city with her tits hitting her knees. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
I wish you no ill but boy am I glad that you're not in my life. My brother who had the hardest time with my sexuality is more tolerant than you. If you're in San Francisco you should really consider Fresno or Modesto. I think you'll be more comfortable.
