"Good Mews offers an alternative to traditional animal shelters in the Metro Atlanta area by providing a no-kill, cage-free haven for homeless, abused, or abandoned cats until placing them in permanent, loving homes. Good Mews promotes public awareness regarding the value of pets, animal welfare, pet overpopulation, and quality human-animal companionship through education and outreach programs."

GO KICK A CAT PEREZ! YOU DON'T DONATE TO SHIT!
How about helping homeless and abused *PEOPLE * first? There is plenty of poverty, abuse, and hunger in the world today and the $$$ wasted on animal welfare would do much to alleviate human suffering instead!! People's needs should be put above animals'.
Yay! Cats!
Here kitty, kitty, kitty..
Re: Pogue Mahone – people have a choice. animals dont.
Lots of cities have similar, not just ATL. I'd rather donate locally.
Actually, Pig, I've personally worked with Good Mews while living in Marietta. It is an AMAZING organization that does incredible work.
I would hope it is legit. Give to the kitties. They need us.
I am one of the 300+ volunteers who work at Good Mews, so I can assure you that the organization is not a fake. Thanks to Perez for mentioning us. As for you sad sacks who can write nothing but ugly, uninformed comments: you need a mommy very very badly!
I also spend alot of time at Good Mews, What an amazing place. I adopted my Ringo from there
I am thrilled you are giving them a Hell Yeah !!!!!
I also am a volunteer for the past 10 years. It is a very worthwhile organization. Yes Thanks Perez for mentioning us. For you guys who have nothing better to do than be negative. GET A LIFE LOOSERS!!!
I love cats! Great cause!
wow, this is exactly the reason why I love animals more than people………..you sick losers need to stop being so hateful.
I know first hand about Good Mews because my hubby and I live in Marietta and we volunteer at Good Mews with the Clean and Feed shift. It is a WONDERFUL shelter where cats are loved and cared for. Please donate! www.goodmews.org
This group is awesome. You can not believe the cases that they have dealt with in the Southeast. They also did rescue during Hurricane Katrina of cats and dogs. I support them, they are the real deal.
Re: PIGezHIVton – Maybe you should stop talking out your ass…oh wait…is that where your brain is? Pretty pathetic to try and slander a chairty. GET A LIFE!
Re: bitchface4 – Respectfully, I have to disagree: how about abused children; they don't have much choice, either.Where I live, you get a harsher penalty if you abuse or kill an animal than a child.Something is very wrong with this; humans have more value than animals, and if people put animal life and animal welfare above human life and human's needs then the world seriously has it's priorities out of whack. It might not be politically correct, but I won't apologize for valuing humans above animals…and a note to those others who think this qualifies as a "hater": just because you don't agree with someone or something it doesn't mean you hate them; you just happen to disagree!
Nice to see a local Atlanta charity on here. This is NOT a FAKE charity. Good Mews has been around for ages.
Re: Pogue Mahone – I have to totally disagree with you. The fact we are able to decide who we want to donate to makes the world a better place. Helping the homeless and abused are not the only way to correct that bad situation. The fact that there are sick people out there who would abuse humans or animals is disturbing and maybe if they had a small place in there heart to donate to animals it would make the world a better place. Just my opinion.
One of the great things about America is we can choose what causes we endorse . If you aren't into this one, move on. enough nastiness without dumping more. Thanks for the MEWS mention, Perez. luvs it
I LOVE CATS!!!
We have three,
one I hand fed with a pet
baby bottle when she was ten days
old after her mother died.
Cats rock!
People - um - not so much.
Re: Pogue Mahone – There are far too many people and animals that need love and assistance. Nobody said that you need to choose one or the other; many of us donate time and money to multiple charities. Why do you judge us for choosing to share some of our resources with animals in need? Who are you to determine what _should_ be most important to someone else? Good Mews is a great organization that runs on DONATIONS rather than tax dollars. If you don't want to help us, don't. But don't denigrate those who do.
Without this organization, our streets would be filled with potentially dangerous feral animals as well as loving abandoned animals. I recently had a friendly stray find me and now I know it is being taken care of and finding a new loving home due to the efforts og Good Mews. Unconditional love is what it is all about!! For all creatures!!
KITTIES!
This place is a GREAT shelter - I used to volunteer here when I lived in Georgia.
I adopted a wonderful kitty here, and they do great work in a town with lots of abused and neglected kitties.
Re: PIGezHIVton – I used to volunteer at this AWESOME shelter until I moved.
I assure you its a real charity.
AWWWW PEREZ! There's a heart in there, somewhere!
I own 4 cats, all rescued. The biggest gratification is to win their trust in humans back!
I too am a volunteer with Good Mews and also give to people causes. If you live in the area, you can give your time if you don't want to give cash. Volunteer. They are the Atlanta area's original non-profit no-kill cage-free shelter, celebrating 20 years of fiinding good homes for good kitties. Voted a best place to adopt a pet by the readersof Atlanta Magazine last year, they need your votes in the current vote, which ends November 10th. For that, and an upcoming dinner (November 18) at an italian restaurant featurng unlimited spayghetti (get it?) and meatballs for $9.99 where 25% will go to good mews, check www.goodmews.org. Come see the cats douring our adoption hours … and remember, you are helping people who couldn't take care of their pets too.
I can choose to give to any charity I want, and I choose animal organizations.
Also, yes ON PROP 2 in California.
Thanks for the shout out, Perez!!! We appreciate it and Good Mews is a wonderful place as I have volunteered with it for over 16 years. Ignore the haters and the ignorant. You can tell a lot about a person's character by the way they treat animals. I choose to give a voice to animals AND humans.
Re: Pogue Mahone –
Since I earn my income, I choose how I wish to spend my money. How you choose to spend yours is entirely your decision, so go nuts and donate, or better yet, instead of wasting time on the computer put your money where your mouth is and volunteer your time helping people. I run an animal rescue and wildlife rehab out of my home, and ANY day would help an animal over a person. Animals were domesticated and used by people for thousands of years, it's about time we showed them their just rewards and make certain their lives are as happy as possible. Selfish people (and many breeders) started this problem of over-population by being irresponsible or just plain greedy, many of us just clean up their 'mess' and try to find the best homes for their cast-away animals.
Please everyone, PLEASE spay/neuter your pets!!! Adopt from a shelter/rescue, and please make certain you make a lifetime commitment to your pet, they depend on us to do the best for them.
Re: Xandria – For your information I DO support causes; HUMAN causes(which mean a lot more than animal ones!) examples: Covenant House, Scarboro Missions, St. Joseph's Workers, Christian Blind Mission International, Samaritan's Purse, Madonna House,Society of the Little Flower,Marionhill Fathers,Doctors Without Borders, etc…and I won't apologize for putting *people* above animals.Animals are NOT and never will be, equal or superior to people.People should come first, and if you want to get snotty about it I suggest you Google my username and apply it to yourself…it sure is appropriate!Maybe the reason you seem to care so much more about animals than people is because you turn people off being so snarky?
Re: Pogue Mahone –
Good for you! Too many people have opinions but most of them are hypocrites…all talk. Continue your cause, I'll continue mine….but, as far as I'm concerned, as well as a growing number of others, animals are far more important than people. People worldwide are dependent on animals for their survival….so, if you want to protect people you also must protect their livelihood. Look at many places in impoverished Africa and the Middle East where they have the highest numbers of Horses and Donkeys second only to China…they need these animals just for their own survival. Look at first world countries, if it weren't for cats, diseases would be killing millions, look at the blind who rely on their dogs as their ears.
Greater minds then yours or mine have philosophized about animals and need for their care and protection….
“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.. I hold that, the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man"
– Mahatma Gandhi
As for being 'snarky', yes, I am actually quite the bitch and not ashamed of it either if I have to be to help an animal. I don't particularly care if people like my company or not, never have. My husband and friends already wear on my nerves at times, much prefer the company of any species other than human.
LoL! OOops, blind=eyes
Great cause! Thanks for always trying to help the innocent and helpless animals!
I :::heart::: kitties!
