    Cali isnt the only state with gay rights issues at hand. And only 70% of districts have reported, with less than 300,000 separating the yes and no. The margin for yes has been shrinking steadily all evening.

    I've been wondering what is going to happend to already legally sanctioned gay marriages if Calf passes Prop 8. Are already married gay couples suddenly no longer married? Are they "grandfathered in" under the previous legalization? Do we have any true legal eagles who really know the laws who can comment on this?     I am proud to have voted yes on 8. Why? Because I believe marriage is a very distinct kind of a relationship between a man and a woman.

    I would have voted NO on 8 if it weren't for the fact that gay couples can legally form "domestic partnerships" affording them the same rights as married couples.

    Prop 8 simply keeps the definition of marriage the way it's been for centuries.

    I have many gay friends and will always stand up for their rights as human beings. If this law were to ban domestic partnerships I would have voted against it.

    But since gay men and women in a domestic partnership can still love each other unconditionally while enjoying the same benefits of married couples, I don't see what's so wrong with preserving the definition of marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

    I hope the gay community realizes most of these people didn't vote against them or their sexual preferences, we voted in support of a tradition and of the family values we believe in.

    That said, if this proposition ends up taking away the rights of gay couples in domestic partnerships, I'll have to vote differently next time.

California Proposition 8 discriminates against U.S. citizens by denying them the right to marry. Marriage is an institution of the state; a marriage license is required for a marriage to be legal. As the results of the 2008 election come in I hope there will be a last minute surge of no on 8 votes, but if not I hope that the California Courts will have more sense than the people of the state have.

    I feel like crying, but hoping for some small miracle. With 89% of the precincts counted, I am… in awe. I voted NO on 8. When we moved to California, all we had heard was how liberal and open-minded it was. I am shocked, simply shocked that Prop 8 was voted "yes" by so many people. If the churches don't want it? Fine. If they don't want to recognize it? Fine. If you don't want to marry someone of your same sex? FINE. But why why why would you agree to a LAW that would deprive people of their personal rights? Every child dreams of getting married someday.
