A Sad Fact

The majority of Latinos and Blacks voted IN FAVOR of Proposition 8 in California.

This breaks our heart and confuses us so much.

Why would people who themselves are often victims of discrimination discriminate against others????

Our guess is that those communities are also more religious.

Well, you know what???? Jesus loves us! And God made us gay!!!!

Civil marriage has nothing to do with religion. It has everything to do with equality - equal rights, privileges and protections.

So sad.

I don't and can't understand why people are so judgmental about this issue. I am sad for everyone impacted by this personally and I feel we all suffer in the long run because of intolerance. It seems when a legal issue touches on anything deemed a morality issue (like abortion and homosexuality) people (religious or not) immediately stop listening and resort to their own primal instinct of "right" and "wrong". Sad, sad, sad.

  2. 102

I am a very religious, Catholic southerner. I think that Gay Marriage is a wonderful thing! I do not beleive that God can hate someone who loves another person, gay or straight, but forgive a murderer or child molester for their sins? That doesn't make much sense to me. That is not how I imagine my God! But for you who are glad about Obama winning guess what………..he does not support Gay Marriage either!

  3. 103

You got it right this time!

  4. 104

thats right baby!i love you perez.the world is changing.we wont stand for this!

  5. 105

    Re: Earlobe – HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAH

  6. 106

Surprised? It's always been known that black people are overwhelmingly homophobic!!!! Shows how much you know! And btw a $1,000 donation from someone who generates as much internet traffic as you is what is truly surprising!

  7. 107

Don't forget guys, Homosexuality is still something that is not as accepted in the "Black" and "Latin" communities as the "White Community" so it's no big surprise that they would support hate.

But Latinos are even more homophobic and racist than White people(I find), so it is not surprising either that they would vote that way.

  8. 108

Yeah!!! So happy :) Sorry Perez

Of course Jesus loves you a lot, but God did not make you gay. That is your choice. He is definitely praying for you everyday though. For your well being and he hopes you make a change in yourself.

  9. 109

God did not make you gay….read the facts and the bible as an entireity, not just picking out a verse here and there to suit your wants and needs.

  10. 110

Re: ilovegossip2 – Of course not. That's because there is no God. He's pretty much the same as Santa Claus, the Easter bunny, and the Tooth Fairy. But, being gay is a genetic predisposition and not a choice.

  11. 111

    Re: CrazyBeautiful84

I'm gay and never been molested, and neither has any of my gay friends…. so no its not a coincidence.

  12. 112

    so sad :(

  13. 113

Wow, this news just keeps getting worse. This should be, and is, a happy day because the best man for the job will be in the oval office, but this news is crushing. How could we have come so far but still have so much further to go?

  14. 114

Perez… I love your website and I think you're awesome but you're WRONG God did not make you gay. "Did you know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God. Do not be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, […] nor homosexual offenders […] will inherit the earth." 1 Corinthians 6:9. God did not make you gay but he does love you. I don't care whether you're gay or straight but God does so PLEASE read a bible before saying God made you gay!

  15. 115

My heart is broken. I really thought the news would be positive this morning. :( The people who voted for it should've had to watch Ellen's wedding video. I know that sounds corny but look me in the eye after that and tell me that they don't deserve to be married. I'm so shocked at California right now. :(

  16. 116

Quit trying to pretend God made you gay or that he's OK with you being gay. The Bible lays this out pretty clearly. It's not OK and he's NOT OK with it. And how DARE you compare being born of color to choosing to perform certain acts? You can decide to not indulge in homosexuality (it IS an indulgence). Black people can't change their color…well…unless your Michael Jackson, but that's another story.

Plus, you have a hard time arguing that homosexuality isn't significant indication of other problems. Fight it as you might, gay men are 45 times more likely to be child predators. This number has always held true. And before you try to pretend it's a lie reference any major non-gay biased research. 2% of the population is responsible for near 50% of all sexual attacks on children.

The thought that marriage has nothing to do with religion? Are you insane? Marriage is simply legal recognition of a religious decision. Its very nature is religious.

You are right, though, Jesus absolutely loves you. That does not, however, condone your ACTIONS. At least have the balls, if you're a freak, to say you're a freak. (I don't mean freak in a bad way. Freak as in "get your freak on.")

  17. 117

Re: Penelope Palin – The Deutsch seem to be quite happy today. All I've heard the last few days was how relieved they'll be when Obama takes office. No more Bush!

  18. 118

Amen Perez…. Someday I hope we might live in a world where we are all equal. It's disheartening because last night it looked like that day was so close. But I guess its not…

  19. 119

Come on sheeple…the wording of the prop was backwards and I'm sure a lot of people on both sides of the issue voted one way when they meant the other.
This was sooo not the issue that got people to the polls - so I'd guess that most people didn't even think about Prop 8 one way or the other until they saw it on the ballot.

  20. 120

Re: SpeakerofTruth – Its absolutly not insane. God did make us gay why the fuck you think we are gay??? Do you honestly believe we said " you know what I dont like being socially excepted so I think ill suck cock instead just for a reaction" you absolute fool. We will all be judged and may god bless you and forgive you.

  21. 121

[re=3066168]Re: Gen[/re Mormons, are you kidding me? There was so much more funding for No on 8 not to mention all the celebs that were apposing it like CRAZY….the Californians voted…not the Mormons in Utah.

The people have voted…now you just have to get over it.

  22. 122

black and latin people are IGNORANT poor people with no education anyway. and this coming from a latin guy.

  23. 123

Re: SpeakerofTruth – Oh thank you! I forgot that Conservative Christians are the leading authority on Homosexuality and it's causes. Maybe after you've solved that problem and let all the gay youth know that it's their choice, you might be able to stop the suicide rate amongst gay christian youth. Way to go "Speaker of Truth." Here's a new truth, open a god damn science book, take a human sexuality class, or talk to the mother of a gay child. Oh and maybe a tolerance class or two. Muah!

  24. 124

Re: Haterade – Have you not heard of Separation of Church and State? You should probably reead up on that before you open your mouth next time.

  25. 125

I wish you would all realize this has nothing to do with discrimination. If gay marriage was to pass and become a civil right, then every church, temple and mosque would have to honor a gay marriage. According to the Bible, Torah and Quran, Christian churches, Jewish temples and Muslim mosques cannot honor gay marriages. This would then mean that if these places turned a gay couple away, they would be sued, fined and have their tax exemption taken away, which then takes away constitutional rights from the churches/temples/mosques because our country was founded on the SEPARATION of church and state. Marriage is an institution founded in the BIBLE. Genesis 2 states that clearly. I'm all for gay couples having the same civil liberties and tax breaks that a married man and woman have, but they should by no means be allowed to infringe on my church's decision to not honor their marriage. If Prop 8 was not passed the demise of every church, temple and mosque in California, and eventually the country, would have ensued, and THAT, my friends, is discrimination. Those of us in favor of 8 were simply trying to protect our rights and the rights that this country was founded on.

  26. 126

Re: Haterade – I'm pretty sure they were fighting for a CIVIL marriage, it doesn't have anything to do with religion or any church…

    127

I am a Catholic and I was raised in a Catholic upbringing and I don't believe religion is the only factor in this decision. I just think the people who voted YES on Prop 8 are ignorant and don't believe in equality whatsoever!! You know for a fact that gay americans are hurting right now and I feel for them. I really do. For their sake, I hope this decision gets overturned. We have an African-American president for God's sake! If we are able to elect the first black president, we should be able to have all gay americans have the same rights as those who are straight!! What ever happened to our nation's motto? CHANGE WE ALL CAN BELIEVE IN! Let's go people! America needs to grow up and stop all the hate!! Perez I am sorry for you and I hope nothing but the best to you and your fellow gay americans.

  28. 128

I am so sorry this has happened, Perez! There should be liberty and justice FOR ALL.

  29. 129

    Re: scion_girlrs3 – What a good comeback, LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  30. 130

No, Whats sad is that in America (one nation under GOD), there are people like you that want to shove things down the publics throat. You say that the black and hispanic communities are more religious like it is a bad thing. God loves you perez, but he does not love your sin. You should read the bible. God did not make you gay. You sound like an ididot. This country was formed as a christian nation and we will fight to keep it that way. No gay marriage! EVER!

  31. 131

I'm Latino and I voted NO ON 8. I can't believe my people would vote yes on discrimination.

  32. julu says – reply to this

    132

You continue to show such astounding distance from reality. Discrimination against blacks and other races is in no way comparable to same sex marriage issues.

  33. 133

Re: Smurffy – Are you serious? Talk about a sterotype! I don't think it has to do with being uneducated. I think it has to do with prejudices and machismo (lol). I am hispanic and growing up it is very normal to teach that sex is only for procreation and gay sex is wrong. Luckily MY parents didn't raise me to think being gay is wrong but unfortunately they did try to instill sex is wrong. (I didn't listen) Now my mom is saying if she could live her life over she wouldn't have been so prudish.

  34. 134

Re: BNG – Is that supposed to be intelligent? Too bad what I said is true…it hurts I know ;-)

  35. 135

People are such idiots. I can't believe that the amendment passed. I don't live in California but was spreading the word as much as I could. I don't understand the hate and denial that this people live with. Keep fighting the fight. One day the world will open their eyes and people will see that you deserve every right that I have. There is no reason for this hate to still be so obundant in a country that is SUPPOSED to be free.

And to the person(s) above who stated that God didn't make you gay. I understand that yes, that's true in some cases, but what about those 5 and 6 year old little boys who you can look at now and see what they will grow up to be. Are you telling me that those kids have decided that they will be gay. It doesn't make any sense to me.

  36. 136

Maybe marriage has NOTHING to do with religion for YOU, But if you knew anything about the history of marriage you would know that it ALWAYS has had EVERYTHING to do with religion. Marriage is a covenant between a man, a woman, and God, and that is what it has been since the beginning of time. Will you please stick to celebrity gossip instead of relating your highly-biased views of everything and anything political? Why don't you allow other people to think for themselves, if you supposedly believe so much in personal freedom???

  37. 137

    God didn't make people gay…
    ever read the bible Perez?

  38. 138

Just another reminder that the US still sucks ass, despite the fact that they just elected a new president. If people think that electing a new president will repair your country, you're sadly wrong. The world hates the US and the fact that proposition 8 even exists is another reminder that your constitution is just a bunch of crap. It's not equality for all and it's not about all men created equal. And for all you freak bible thumpers on here saying that being gay is a choice, you've proven another fact; that most Americans are undereducated inbred morons. Congratulations USA for showing the world yet again your true colors…

  39. 139

I can't believe some people are SO ignorant…being gay is NOT a choice…why would anyone choose to be something that they could be discriminated for? God created gay people, get over it.

  40. 140

I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU, PEREZ!

As a Latina, native to the Bay Area, this saddens me. But, I have hope. Change is upon us. =)

  41. 141

    Re: Venus2581 – You're a fucking douche.

  42. 142

Re: SpeakerofTruth – God created humans, who are born with sexual preferences……some prefer a certain look, a certain size, or a certain sex. Some love who they love because it's in their heart to love them.

  43. 143

we can elect an african american president…and believe in equality by the color of our skin…. but we cant get past two men or two women LOVING eachother unconditionally… that breaks my heart….

  44. 144

Re: CrazyBeautiful84 – so they became gay because they were abused and that's their fault? you don't think that's ignorant? just because you know a lot of gay people who were abused doesn't mean that all of them were, and it doesn't make you any less ignorant/homophobic than anyone else who refuses to believe that gay people didn't choose to be gay.. and because they made such a horrible decision they shouldn't be allowed something as simple as marriage

  45. 145

    Crazy Beautiful84…

"I can't believe how ignorant you are…Gays are gay because they were sexually abused"…take your head out of your a**

If this were truly the case there were could way more gays in society today rather than 10% of the population.

Why can't some people just let other people love who they love…it's simple.

You have to throw around some psychological bullshit to make your argument of hate valid…it's none of your business who your neighbour, friend, relative choses to be with.

    Love people…

My mom and I were the only ones in our family of 5 to vote no–my brothers and Dad voted yes. I am very disappointed in the outcome, but maybe someday we can take the discrimination back out of the California constitution.

  47. 147

So sad :( Let's hope the absentee ballots push it over to YES!

  48. 148

As an African America women I voted yes on Prop 8. because marriage is between a man and a women.

  49. 149

religion? rolling into church every sunday just cause your neighbors do or drowning your house in creepy Jesus icons is not religion

this prop might fail because blacks and latinos are the FIRST to demand equality and the LAST to practise it.

  50. 150

Re: jchutch2 – You're a moron. You believe the bible? You people quoting the bible whenever it benefits your viewpoint. The bible is a story that has been translated so many times it is a guideline for religion not a rule book. If God created everything then he certainly created the gays. Being Gay is not a choice. If it was we wouldn't represent over 10% of the population. Creep.

  51. Sammy says – reply to this

    151

Baptist and Catholics do not believe in gays so that is what happend. Either way it is done now, there will be a future where we all will be equal. Right now Perez just live your life and be happy that you are more accepted then most gays where even 10 years ago, that is progress, especially in latin america.

  52. 152

    Re: SpeakerofTruth

What a bunch of bullshit speaker. If you knew anything … being gay is not a 'choice'. It's who you are and science has proved that. Get your head out of your bible thumping ass and into reality.

  53. 153

i think they were misinformed by white people about prop h8. the whole school and church thing. its really sad!

  54. 154

I'm so sorry Perez! You are dead on.

This is so upsetting and really does make the election a bit bittersweet.

  55. 155

omg that is sadd…awww perez…if i was from cali i would have gathered all my friends to vote no on prop. 08…. =z so sorry…as a hispanic this does make me sad. WTF…. people have no control over who they love.

  56. PLO says – reply to this

    156

Re: CrazyBeautiful84 – Actually, yes it is a coincidence. I'm sorry but that's all it is. I'm studying sexology. Your sexual identity has absolutely nothing to do with rape. The people you know vs peer reviewed research…Tough choice!

  57. 157

I voted for McCain but I also voted for gay marriage. I agree with you Perez, people should have the same rights…But may I remind you that you voted for a man who is not going to give gays that right? Obama is agaisnt gay marriage. Traditionally blacks and religious people are also agaisnt it.- So, there you go….

  58. 158

Re: SpeakerofTruth – Ha, Not really. If it were a choice.. Nobody would be gay.. It's not like it is the "easiest" lifestyle out there.

  59. 159

Re: ilovegossip2 – and how would you know that? are you gay??? I don't believe God made me gay simply because I don't believe in that silly fairytale, but I was born gay and I know it very damn well, ever since I was 2 I was attracted to the same sex and that's that.

  60. 160

Re: toffuticutie – Very well put

  61. 161

Re: Haterade – - Sorry Haterade, I learned that's not true. When spouses die, their property goes automatically to their next of kin not their Domestic Partner. Also if they had kids the living spouse would have to fight for their kid even try to adopt and even that was shot down in one state this election. This is their plight not the word "marriage".

  62. 162

Let me start off by saying that I love your site!! But i have to say that God did not make you gay. The enviroment in which you were brought up, your genetic disposition, and also the way that your mind functions are all contributors to the fact that you are gay. Don't get me wrong i love everykind of person. Gay, straight, white or black… But unfortunately the world is not the same as i am or you are. I do believe in a higher power, but i also have my concerns and questions. If indeed one man/God created this earth and all the galaxies and universes that are a part of our solar system than why would God specify that men and women should be married and not men and men or women and women. Now if God does not exist then this is a sign that we are evolving and maybe Gay men and women should have the right to be married, because in time more and more people will be gay/lesbian and without a creator there is no bottom line. There are no rules or regulations, like the 10 commandments and we must continue to evolve and adjust to our differences. I have often thought that the 10 commandments and God were created to maintain a world of decency and civil obedience. Who's to say that someone didn't think, "look if we create this God and we

  63. 163

    this really saddens me :(

  64. 164

Prejudice is not just a white thing.

  65. 165

I'm sorry Perez, not only did California ban gay marriage, Florida and Arizona also banned it. Every state that had it on the ballot this year banned gay marriage. That's says a lot. California is one of the most liberal state in the country, unfortunetly most of us want to raised our children with mother and a father.

  66. 166

God is shaking his head in disgust at all your hate. HE made everyone different so that we can learn from each other. If everyone was the same this world would be boring. Prop 8 is just as ignorant as the holocaust. Everyone should have the same rights and shame on those who are ignorant enough to vote yes. This is as bad as decimating against a handicapped person. Yet, that isn’t allowed and either should Prop 8. All you holy-rollers can keep your ignorance. I rather sin and go to hell, than be a hypocrite. Most of you are sinning seven days a week and then go confess and think all is forgiven, you are sadly mistaken. You’ll get yours…

  67. 167

such a happy day but such a sad day at the same time.

  68. 168

Re: kathryn76 – Sorry but it's just not a coincidence…and "psychological BS"..hmm well why don't you study the FACTS and research on Gays being abused…I did a case study in college and have a lot of friends who are gay who even helped me.

You asked: Why can't some people just let other people love who they love?

They can, no one is prohibiting them….people can love whomever they want, they have the same beneficial legal rights as heterosexual people.

    Now, the people have spoken….

    GET OVER IT

  69. 169

seriously… is gay going to be the new black or hispanic? Are we going to stop w/thinking that everyone is racist, bigoted… Yes, there are those out there, but I think the majority of us are not like this!

I'm emotional and happy that we've just elected our first AA president even though I did not vote for him (for economic policy reasons). I think we have made huge steps toward race and progression. HOWEVER, Perez… you need to understand that this country was founded on religious beliefs. Unfortunately, the majority of Americans are conservatives whose faith in GOD will lead them to this decision. I voted NO on prop 8 b/c I don't think it is my place to judge, however many feel that by voting NO is like giving a hand in changing GOD's plan. This is not comparable to race equality… sorry, this is a faith based decision. I'm just confused as to why we even had to vote on it again!

  70. 170

Re: PIGezHIVton – The most homophobic men's I've ever come across get off on dildos. Are you ready to graduate to a big cock yet piggy?

  71. 171

being mexican or black is NOT A CHOICE. research in almost every social psychological journal shows that sexuality is on a spectrum, not a black or white genetic difference designated by god. You can CHOOSE to stop screwing men, mexicans can't choose to stop being mexican.

  72. 172

Jesus, if he was a real person, may have supported equality, we cannot know this for sure. Christianity does not support equality, not in the slightest Perez! The bible was used to promote slavery, and is now used to discriminate against homosexuals. It is terrible!

All I can say Perez is to stay strong, your day will come. This isn't right, but there are people out there that have your back, whether they are gay or straight. We will work hard, we will get this done!

  73. 173

Also, I have no reservations is stating that NO ONE would choose to be treated like a second class citizen, to be bashed for how they feel or for being themselves. I don't think anyone would choose it. I know several gay people and not one of them was abused or molested. One if which is my nephew, who has been noticeably gay since age 2. His dad tried to change that, so now my nephew hides it from him but around people he trusts he's himself.

  74. coco says – reply to this

    174

It confuses me that a state that went Blue could easily oppose Gay Marriage. Honestly everyone got so caught up in the Election that everyone forgot about civil rights everywhere else. It's very bittersweet

  75. 175

Perez, God did not make you gay! But he does love you regardless. I do not believe that any gay person wakes up one day and says…"I want to decide to be hated and treated poorly for whom I love" not at all. I do believe that many other things come into play and it can not be pin pointed to one specific thing. I also belive the love you experience is true and real. But to say that God made you that way is like saying that God make the crack head a junkie. That simply is not true. We live in a fallen world and sin, in all forms, can be very easy to be comfortable with. Satan is a smart guy and works daily to decieve. Having said that, I do believe that you can be saved and trapped in sin that you may deal with your entire life. With respect to prop 8, Marriage is a religious cermony of a man and woman, who come before God, and make their vows. Why should gays be given the right to redefine what that is. That makes no since!

  76. 176

well, I don't support H8, but I don't think you can say, qualitatively that Jesus made you gay. Hopefully, that bold statement was just ongue in cheek.

  77. 177

What's really fucking sad is people crying over this garbage when the headlines are reading things like this: "Obama to Inherit Economy in Worst Crisis in 70 Years"
How about looking at the big picture first. Thousands of people have lost almost everything they have during the last 8 years. There were 2 people on the news tonight. They both lost their jobs and homes during the last year, one also lost her husband in Iraq, and the other lost her son in Afghanistan. They are far from being the only ones. People in this country are losing their family, home, and jobs - all at the same time - but BOO HOO, Mike can't marry Steve.
In the grand scheme of things, your priorities are fucked.

Also, here is a thought - if you are solely against civil unions because they don't allow you the same benefits as an actual marriage - why don't you take that 76 million you wasted on this and spend it on CHANGING THE GODDAMNED POLICIES AND RIGHTS OF CIVIL UNIONS instead of crying over this shit.
It is totally fucked up Perez (and those he influences sadly) keep referring to this as "hate" and "discrimination". I've said it before and I will say it again, I have many gay friends, I have dated same-sex. I would NEVER dislike someone because of their sexual orientation, but marriage is for a man and a woman. I'm also atheist, so no, I'm not a bible thumper.
Fight to get the policies of the civil unions changed. Quit crying over this shit.

  78. 178

Next time, present a measure to bring equality between domestic partnerships and marriage. Stop pissing christians off by having judges redefine the word marriage. No matter how entitled you think you are to have equal rights, you are not entitled to ask people to push their faith aside for your benefit.

  79. 179

Re: CCherie31 – WTF? What in the world are you trying to say??? God didn't make me gay but the environment I was brought up in did? Really? My straight parents made me gay? My hetero brother and sister made me gay? All of my straight, married Aunts and Uncles made me gay? Let's take your next point: genetic predisposition? What, the gays messed with my genetic makeup during conception? Those tricky gays - how did they get up in there without my mother and father noticing? What in the world?

  80. 180

Well, GAYS are Welcome in HOLLAND. In THE NETHERLANDS we separated CHURCH from GOVERNMENT alread YEARS ago. Not just in theory!

  81. 181

I can't agree about God Made People Gay. I'm sorry Perez.. but really… that's true equal rights has nothing to do with religion.. BUT marriage has something to do with Religion. I think God made it clear himself in the bible. Men & Women.

I respect the gays.. and I totally don't despise them.. but i just don't agree that God made people gay.

  82. 182

Perez I love your website but I have to say you are wrong on something… God did not make anyone gay. Who ever is gay chose that for themselves. Check it out: "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God."
    —1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (NKJV)

  83. 183

very sad….I'm not gay and yet I feel it's wrong for the gov to tell you that you don't count…I feel it's a personal choice. Church and State should have nothing to do with it.

  84. 184

I keep telling you, you can't FORCE acceptance onto people, you must EARN it.

See, now your bad attitude and nasty commentaries don't earn you acceptance when you needed it the most. Learn much?!

Our straight neighbors who are bi-racial had a "Yes on 8" sign.
40 years ago they wouldn't be allowed to marry in some parts of the country. I say take away marriage rights for ignorant, undereducated, often poor, religious bigots! Maybe this gay should stop paying taxes too.

  86. 186

Being a homosexual has a lot to do with ones genetic make-up, God or no. I have nothing against same sex marriage, what no one seems to think through, is that IF a couple breaks up, there are, in most states, no laws protecting either partner per the distribution of assets, property etc. That's what SAD.

  87. 187

Perez, it sucks to hear this. America has proved that it is willing to overlook race when it comes down to it, but that they're not ready to accept homosexuality. But, I guess everything has to be in baby steps. Hoepefully, in the future, they'll try again.

  88. 188

Sorry Perez i always love your blog but you cant fight that people are religious and marriage IS INDEED a HUGE part of religion….In the bible it clearly states ONE WOMAN AND ONE MAN… but i do believe everyone should be free to do as they please which is why i voted OBAMA but this is the way it is not every religious person is as open minded.

  89. 189

Re: lioninlambsclothing – It's a "stupid reason"? You want to hear something stupid? Read what Perez wrote above "…God made us gay!!!!". God didn't make you gay. God makes someone Black. God makes someone Latino. You can't decide that but you can decide if you're gay or not. Perez made a beyond stupid comparison using race against sexual preference.
If this came the ballot again and Perez takes another hard stance on it, I'll vote the opposite of Perez each and every time.

  90. 190

I am so disheartened by this. I do not live in California, but this is just awful can't the human race just understand equality? I was raised catholic and I believe in same sex marriage. Hey if you find someone who loves you unconditionally for who you are, you should not be denied the right to express your committment to each other!

  91. 191

Everyone who voted yes on prop 8 should be deeply and truly ashamed of themselves. To hate on love is the lowest low the American people have yet sunk to. Never mind the blatant disregard for civil rights and liberties (weren't those the foundation of your "great" nation?). With all the hate in the world congratulations on making the world that much more hateful. I hope you will never have to endure the misery and stinging pain of discrimination yourself!
I am glad I am in Canada where my friends who love one another can freely marry regardless of their sexual orientation (and guess what, our society hasn't come to a stand still or moral fiber of society hasn't fallen apart because of it). Compared to Canada (my home) the so called Free World the USA still lives in the caves of the dark ages CONGRATULATIONS indeed
Today is the epitome of bitter sweet…with Obama winning .. but also the reaffirmation of discrimination and h8te!

  92. 192

And FUCK FUCK FUCK the Mormans who poured millions into writing discrimination into another states constitution. H8ers!

  93. 193

If you want "equality," then call it something other than marriage, and I guarantee it'd pass. The Bible cites homosexuality (among many sins that I AND others have committed…) as "abominable," and it's a slap in the face for a religious community to have to call you "married." The problem isn't the rights - it's that you want special treatment and a pat on the back. In a religious community, it's never gonna happen!

For all of those God preaching individuals, please read the constitution. Our nation, albeit declared a "Christian" nation, is one created by people of all religions and continues to acknowledge citizens of religions. The Constitution declares, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . . .". Let's break this down for you: this means that there shall be no law created honoring one religion or another. The honoring of Proposition 8 breaks the simple words of our nation's constitution, and no, it will not be amended. Proposition 8 honors a conservative thought which is largely based upon the bible's definition of a marriage and it cruelly disrespects those who are not included in the bible's definition. Whether you are born gay or become gay at some point in your life, as a human being in the United States you should have the right to marry whomever you love and desire to marry. Proposition 8 has basically been voted in, although this is not the end of the fight. Give it time, effort and voice your opinion; in 50 years we will look back at this time and realize how ignorant all of those conservative, right-winged conservatives were. This proposition is another civil rights case in which gays are declared separate but equal. Equality will reign, yes it will…

  95. 195

Boo hoo cry me a river. Im glad people voted yes on 8 cause the comparions to being gay people were making were getting ridiculous! Dont blame it on blacks and latinos they hardly vote anway.

  96. 196

Quit your bitching! Your president won, you can't have everything!

Wording is irrelevant: yes to ban it, no to not ban it. What's so hard about that?!?!

  97. 197

I'm so ashamed P-funk. It makes me sad about minorities hating on other minorities. I don't get what the problem is…I challenge any Bible beater to show me where in the Bible it says that gay marriage is wrong.

You are my beautiful brother P, who happens to be gay, and in the words of the great Michael Moore, "Growing up, most of us had our heads in our asses. Some of us just decided to take it out." I hope our minority communities take their heads out soon and STOP THE HATE!

  98. 198

i just read a study saying the most tolerant, accepting people in the country are white college educated young people. Unfortunately this seems to be true time and time again, this poll just reflects that. That being said I have never been prouder of my generation for finally taking the reigns of this country and electing our candidate.

  99. 199

God didnt make you gay but he gave you choice and you and other gays followed the wrong path. In all honesty, it had nothing to do with being against gays. its the fact that people dont believe marriage should define a homosexual relationship. simple as that. ive heard that people are born gay and ive heard they make decisions. if their born gay then there is no god and its a mental retardation which i tend to believe. or they have a sick perversion probably due to problems in their life. get help perez. i support you going to rehab.

  100. 200

Re: Alexandre26 – Blacks can NEVER be the majority of anything in this country, based on sheer numbers. If you want to talk prison numbers I can break it down for you. Not sure what 100's of people you meet but plenty of "decent" black people listen to rap. Your generalizations are hurting my eyes.
