This breaks our heart and confuses us so much.
Why would people who themselves are often victims of discrimination discriminate against others????
Our guess is that those communities are also more religious.
Well, you know what???? Jesus loves us! And God made us gay!!!!
Civil marriage has nothing to do with religion. It has everything to do with equality - equal rights, privileges and protections.

I believe we should respect the outcome of Prop. 8 even if you're against it, because that's how democracy works, you have to respect the mayority opinion, just like we have to respect that Obama has won the election by vote.

Sorry Perez but you chose to be gay. It's a sickness you chose to give in to and the way you wanted to live your life. There is a vast difference between someone being born in a Hispanic/Asian/African American family and a gay person. Its a matter of discriminating based off someones ethnicity/looks/color and someones sexual preference. As a minority who is discriminated against often in America by rural whites, I would have voted Yes on 8 not based off what you look like but what my religion and values are plain and simple. I'm Hispanic and NOT Catholic, but when I checked, being Black or Hispanic did not break any of the commandments. As a matter of fact, when many Israelites had married pagans, God told them to cut their losses and leave the non-believers. Someone earlier quoted scripture saying that homosexuals will not be within the heavenly kingddm. So what's the question? It's clear that God does not approve of the lifestyle. Marriage was created in the Garden of Eden-a perfect place. I'd rather follow what the Bible states than support something that makes sinners feel better. It's not about hating homosexuals (remember, the Bible says "love the sinner, hate the sin"), it's about putting God's commandments BEFORE earthly feelings.

I happen to hail from Kansas, and happen to live right down the road from Fred Phelps, the guy who struts around with the "God Hates Fags" signs and protests soldier's funerals. I cannot for the life of me understand where that sort of hatred comes from in people. I know that God does not discriminate against his creation like we do against each other, and that in His eyes, we truly are all equals. I imagine someday we will all look back at this and either weep or laugh, but I know that this type of prejudice will perish much in the same way that the prejudice against blacks and women voters wilted away.

Everyone is acting like they outlawed homosexuality!! California still respects gay couples. Disneyland offers them insurence and benefits (even though they are not the spouse). They can still have commitment ceremonies, live together and love eachother. Start throwing a fit when they say being gay is against the law. If being gay is a choice then what about the people who are and don't want to be? Who are ashamed and end up killing themselves because of it. What is the big deal? Do you see the divorce rate? Kids from broken homes & with miserable parents. The insurance privs of being married aren't all that important. You can legally change your name at the clerk of courts for a small fee. It's the commitment that matters..having it be "legal" doesn't ensure a happy ending.

It's all about baby steps I suppose. I'm very happy that Obama won the presidency, but it still surprises me that something like Prop 8 would pass. I guess that just shows that the racism may be dying down but the bigotry still has a long way to go.
I got into a huge arguement with my Mother in Law about proposition 8 last night. She was adamant that gays should not be allowed to be married. I tried to tell her my view, that our country has freedom of religion (or lack thereof) and seperation of church and state therefore civil marriage's should have nothing to do with religion… but she refused to listen. I dont understand how our country can see Prop 8 as legal. It is obviously discrimmination.
I think that this was because of religion. If people decide to eliminate the rights of more groups later, Latinos and blacks would be the next in line. It doesn't make sense that we would vote to discriminate against gays, but I guess some minorities did not see things this way. The No on 8 commercial that was narrated by Samuel Jackson should have gotten all minorities on board because it made some valid points about how many minorities have just recently received their rights to intermarry and own property. It's sad but maybe the courts can overturn it again. Hopefully….

Many of us heteros are also extremely upset about this. The good news is this is certain to change eventually. Look at the exit polls, notice the 18-29 year olds (and especially the 18-24 year olds) favor gay rights. Eventually the old haters will be the minority. Progress always prevails eventually.

Open your eyes sweetheart! If science has proven that it's genetic and if that's true, well the bible also tells us that God is the one that creates us…"knits us in the womb". You need to take a step back and realize that while the Bible may be "the Word" it still has human goggles on it. Religious figures did some very shady things in the past because people didn't know any better. We know better now…or at least I thought we did. There are scrolls that haven't been added to the bible for their content…guess who decided that? Not God…man did. Love is love and all forms of it should be equal.

I am a Latina and it is sad to see that my fellow people would vote yes on a shameful proposition.
