This breaks our heart and confuses us so much.
Why would people who themselves are often victims of discrimination discriminate against others????
Our guess is that those communities are also more religious.
Well, you know what???? Jesus loves us! And God made us gay!!!!
Civil marriage has nothing to do with religion. It has everything to do with equality - equal rights, privileges and protections.
So sad.

i do not agree that gay people are so in your face about it, at least not more than straight people are. you just don't notice it because you are used to it.
there are plenty of gay couples living in privacy, but the issue that *is* being brought up is the fact those people in their homes don't get the same rights as you do in your home.

Comparing Latinos and Blacks to being gay is so wrong it is not the same thing, and saying Jesus made you like that, I highly doubt that. I for one didn't like that comercial where that guy from san fransico said "It's coming whether you like it or not" I know a lot of ppl that didn't like that, don't tell me that I have to approve of something or like it. Being gay is fine but getting married it's in the bible which has been around longer then gay ppl, and forcing ppl or are christians to accept it is wrong.
if I lived in cali I would have voted no on 8, I live in miami and I voted no on amendment 2 but it passed

Yeah, this is really sad. I don't get it. Obama wins by a landslide and one of his main platforms is that he is in favor of gay marriage. So how can people vote for obama but yet be in favor of Prop. 8? MAYBE, just maybe this proves that black people were clearly only voting for Obama because of his color, but when it comes to voting for something to help other people they get all homophobic. Just maybe?
Being hispanic myself, I am quite embarrassed that this passed. I am a bit confused thoug. the institute of marriage is a religious tradition. Civil Unions are not. Why are gays and lesbians fighting for something that is based on a religious beliefs? Just beat the religious idiots at their own game. Encourage civil unions that include all the benefits of a married couple. The religious freaks can't take that away from you

Just like perez say people have the right to vote what they want. Most latinos are christian and most blacks are baptist so why should they go out their way for what they believe in. I am a christian I HAVE NEVER AND WILL NEVER TALK DOWN on someone different than me. I respect gays for who they are and i know they are people just like me, but my religion comes first! They want respect I'll give them all my respect in the world. But my god comes first just like your pride comes to you, SO RESPECT OUR DECISIONS. I don't believe in divorce, does that mean everyone should be forced to stay in a bad marriage and be miserable? I don't think the church looks to fondly on that, but you don't hear the holy rollers saying to stop divorce! Divorce does more damage to families than gay marriage.

i am a 39-year-old black woman who voted against propostion 8 and am very sad that it has passed but let me tell you, most black people hate when our homosexual bros & sisters compare their discrimination to our discrimination. it is not the same! when u see us u know immediately that we are black or latino…when i look at u or anyone else, i don't assume or know for fact that you are gay or lesbian.

I can understand all points of view here really. Even though I'm not Christian myself I can understand a religious person being against gays and their marriage due to things said in the bible, but..
If there's a separation between "marriage" and "civil union" wouldn't everyone be happy? Civil Union is pretty much equal to marriage in a lot of places and as far as I know works quite well.
Besides.. the way I see it, who are you to tell a gay couple they can't be Christian or whatever they choose to be? Whether you agree with it or not, it doesn't really affect you. Do you really think God will punish you because other people were gay and got married? Do you NOT think people should have the religious freedom to interpret and act on their religion however they like? Maybe they should have their own church or branch, I don't know.. I don't really know how that works (don't tell me that was an ignorant comment. I'm aware I'm not knowledgeable on the subject). All I know is, there should be some kind of way to compromise and sort this out!
I'm all for gay marriage myself. They're just people like you and me who can't help the way they are, that's what I think.
Either way, whatever side you're on, open your mind!

If that's actually true, yes, it is a coincidence. And, it makes no sense. Lots of people get abused and molested, sadly, regardless of their orientation, and it never affects them one way or another because sexual orientation is INNATE. Even science and psychological studies show it's genetic. I'm into chicks, and I had a wonderful upbringing and never suffered a traumatic event, nor did I even know a gay person until I was about 15, at which time I'd been crushing on girls since grade school.

Ok. Personnaly I think it's sad that Proposition 8 was passed as I believe in equal rights to all minorities. But all the religion bashing?? I am not a religious person but a lot of people here are just assuming that religion is to blame for this. How can you open the eyes of small minded people by being small minded yourself?? Now, do not get me wrong, I appreciate that everyone is different and has their own views ideas and beliefs…
BUT I just do not get why people advocate and say their religion and themselves are accepting of others, free of discrimination etc. when CLEARLY this is not the case - Most people that are from different religions (that I have come into contact with) are NOT accepting unless it is of their own beliefs and values etc.

AND for all that voted YES on H8, who are you to dictate ones choices (sorry my question mark button is not working..) We are all lucky enough to be apart of North America, to have the right to vote, and to have choice on what you think is and is not right, BUT why should you be the common factor in deciding what someone does in their personal life…how would you feel if someone told you who you could and could not marry.

God clearly says in the Bible he is against homosexuality and the perversion and lust that comes with it. God didn't make you gay, but He can deliver you from tat sin. Homosexuality is just another sin. And it says that "a sin is a sin is a sin" everybody struggles, we just have to seek deliverance from our own sins. Don't be deceived.

God made you gay, but God also is known for creating oddities of nature. Homosexuality, while documented for centuries, serves no reproductive or adaptive function. Scientists have already demonstrated that they can reverse homosexuality on a rat. Sure, you're more "accepted now," but just remember: the rest of us are just putting up with you.
Religion should not play a part in this.
Because we can´t tell people what to do based on what we believe in. If so, we would have to tell like…mormons to live in a different way.
It sounds pathetic to me that California has taken this path. I was so happy for them when they showed that they could open their minds and now….it´s all gone.

I think it's the wording that was used on the ballot that made peoploe vote yes. I personally don't have anything against gays but I feel it should be done in a different way. Once we allow those things to go down it would mean we have to change our text books in the schools for the kids, teaching kids that being gay is … I think it's okay for those who CHOOSE to be gay but I don't feel that we should teach my children about that in school because kids are vulnerable and they absorb everything they hear, so we must be very careful when we put it out there. I say there should be protection but behind closed doors. Gays is not accepted by all and we must not shove that in their childrens faces if they choose not to teach it to them. I say give the gays rights but in a different way, "WATCH THE WORDING" dont' teach it in school, but allow everyone to have equal benefits!!!
Because the blacks only care about THEIR rights and discrimination against THEM. Not about discrimination to any other groups…don't you know that by now!
