So sad! When will equality finally happen? I'm so sad that it cant hapen now, when it should!
Everyone who voted yes on prop 8 should be deeply and truly ashamed of themselves. To hate on love and equality is the lowest low the American people have yet sunk to. Never mind the blatant disregard for civil rights and liberties (weren't those the foundation of your "great" nation?). With all the hate in the world congratulations on making the world that much more hateful. I hope you will never have to endure the misery and stinging pain of discrimination yourself!
I am glad I am in Canada where my friends who love one another can freely marry regardless of their sexual orientation (and guess what, our society hasn't come to a stand still or the moral fiber of society hasn't fallen apart because of it). Compared to Canada (my home) the so called Free World the USA still lives in the caves of the dark ages CONGRATULATIONS indeed
Today is the epitome of bitter sweet…with Obama winning .. but also the reaffirmation of discrimination and h8te!
Well done indeed……
Peace and all that Jazz
yes to prop 8!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so happy that Prop 8 won! Our forefathers established this great county with sound principles coming straight out of the Bible. If you really think about it with an open mind, the USA is the strongest country on earth with more people wanting to come live here than anywhere else. We need to keep our constitution and laws conservative not out there supporting any whim that comes along.
Re: Watty –
It's more than a piece of paper though– it's the rights that go along with marriage that don't go along with a civil union.
That's what a lot of people don't understand.
Many gay people don't actually want to get married because it's a hetero/religious institution. However, in order to gain many rights as couples they have to be married.
that is totally lame!
I am so glad that this passed! Marriage is a sacred bond and should only be between a man and a woman.
soo thats why you voted for OBAMA!
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA ……….lol it screwed you any way! totally should voted for McCain at least for a hot First Lady! now we're stuck with that! ewww
thats SOOOOOO WRONG SO WRONG!
Another low for equal rights for Americans. Shame, Shame, more motherfucking shame.
Fuck all who voted yes in Cali.
Separation between church and state is correct–marriage is a historically RELIGIOUS institution. Gays already have civil unions with all the rights of a married couple. Prop 8 ensures that civil unions (afforded to ANY consenting adult in California) remain separate from the RELIGIOUS institution of marriage.
Soooo typical of the self rightous assholes in California…. think they can pick a good president, put friggin movie stars in office for chrissakes…. dictate where and when people can smoke even out doors….. shut the fuck up already California freak ass people would ya already????????? Bunch of fuckin' losers!
Re: beachbum88 – Fucked up beyond imagination. AND FUCK YOU FOR VOTING YES FUCKING BITCH.
As a Canadian I was so proud to see that a shift in power had occurred last night. I don't only see Obama as the leader of your country but I see him as the leader of the free world and is willing to take us in a new direction that we all need to go through. As excited as I am about all this, I am deeply sadden by what has happened in California with Prop 8. I think I speak for many Canadians when I say that freedoms of the people should be extended to all persons and it should not matter by their sexual orientation. Our support is sent to those who oppose this decision and hopefully it can and will be over turned! If Canada and other countries in the world allow gay marriage why can't America?
Re: mel_bell – Well, you're right, sort of. The GLBT communities are strong in the major cities, along with their liberal minded straight neighbors. I have no doubt that San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego voted NO! on H8. Unfortunately there's the rest of the state. Fresno, Modesto, Bakersfield, all of Orange County tends to be very, very conservative. The state as a whole is pretty split which, though it passed, it was very, very close. We'll see what happens. I will add that this was probably the WORST thing a state like California in financial ruin could have done. Their economy would have benefited from a large part of their population throwing huge weddings and registering for gifts. Somehow a civil union just isn't the same kind of party.
I just don't get it… what's the big deal??? Even if you do think it's a sin… it's not your sin! What if there was a proposition that banned Christian marriage? you say religion is part of who you are and how you see the world? well so is sexual orientation… I'm so sorry for the people who have had their rights taken away from them. Maybe after 4 years of no fear mongering Cali can revisit the subject
Don't give up!
I hope we aren't going to have to hear you whining about this for the next six months. You do not support censorship, well, the people of California have spoken. You lost. Get over it.
Re: dont be insane vote McCain –
So I assume you are eating mud today!!!
This sucks, big time. I wish I lived in Cali so I could've voted against Proposition 8.
Sorry guys but the people did the right thing. Marriage is for a man and a woman.
the reason that people voted YES is because it DOES AFFECT THEM. The problem was that if gay marriage was legally recognized as marriage, then it would have to be taught in schools just like regular marriage and to be thought of as perfectly normal and acceptable. Kids would be forced to read books like the prince and the prince. A lot of families found this absolutely unacceptable.
BTW perez, to compare gay marriage to the civil rights movement is fucking disgusting and disturbing. there is NO COMPARISON whatsoever and you should be ashamed
Thank God!!!!!
Im sad McCain wasnt elected Pres, but alt least Prop 8 was passed, and brings peace to my soul
Re: nanc21 –
You did not just fucking compare fatass perez to the great syd barrett calling him a crazy diamoond. You idiot the only crazy diamond that will always keep shining is Syd Barrett. Quote soem fuckimg Madonna but not pink floyd.
Re: Pwn3d! – Every vote counts. Not just the ones on the winning side. Don't get too comfortable though, it's just a matter of time you bigot.
The measure's passage represents a personal loss for couples who still hoped to wed, and casts a shadow of uncertainty on the legal unions of those who already have. Because the initiative holds that only marriage between a man and a woman is recognized in the state, legal experts have said it will have to be resolved in court whether existing gay marriages would be nullified.
is ecstatic about the potential of Obama and embaressed for California, once the pinical of equal rights. How can people vote both yes on HOPE and yes on H8TE?
Thats really upsetting! I think the people who are not gay and took the time out to fight to take their rights away are just really pathetic and have nothing better to do!
Matt Dorsey, a representative of the San Francisco city attorney's office, said City Attorney Dennis Herrera will file a legal challenge in the California Supreme Court if the measure wins.
Re: Marie99 – you're a douche
It was passed for a REASON! I don't care about people's sexual preferences, but it pisses me off when gays/lesbians think their shit don't stink! Grey's is sending Erica on her way, but according to the gays/ lesbians, there is some great conspiracy. Shut the fuck up!
Perez,
It's NOT official YET! Read what the report says from the NoOnProp8.com website! In, CA they are not expected to make a determination until every last vote is counted, and then, if it's very close, it will automatically qualify for a re-count.
From NoOnProp8.com:
Roughly 400,000 votes separate yes from no on Prop 8 – out of 10 million votes tallied.
Based on turnout estimates reported yesterday, we expect that there are more than 3 million and possibly as many as 4 million absentee and provisional ballots yet to be counted.
Given that fundamental rights are at stake, we must wait to hear from the Secretary of State tomorrow how many votes are yet to be counted as well as where they are from.
It is clearly a very close election and we monitored the results all evening and this morning.
As of this point, the election is too close to call.
Because Prop 8 involves the sensitive matter of individual rights, we believe it is important to wait until we receive further information about the outcome.

Re: buckeyefan – Actually, dipshit, our forefathers developed this country with the idea of separation of church and state - thats why they came over here from england - they were getting prosecuted because of religious beliefs. So they established this country to be free from all religious prosecution.
So why now, do we all have to be subjected to Christian values?
READ A FUCKIGN BOOK.
im from MA and and strait, but this is a big hit to the direction of this country. I'm so sorry for everyone involved.
so sad. =(
You couldn't defeat Prop 8 with a tone of money in the most liberal state in the union. That should tell how out of the mainstream gay marriage is. Few oppose full rights for civil unions so you might go for the rights which is what you were claiming in the first place. See Truth According To T o m
THIS ISN'T OVER! THEY WILL GET THEIR SUNNY DAY. U WAIT!
buckeye, not all of our founding fathers were christians. and this country was not established on the bible. they wanted religious freedom.
what is so wrong with civil unions?? where gays could get all the same rights as a married couple except without the TITLE of marriage? what is the problem with that???
Re: xtiney –
So does the same mentality apply to the popular vote for president? The vote ended around Obama- 51%, McCain- 48.5%. That's closer than prop 8 was. Or does the same not apply to EVERY catagory of yesterday's election, only the one's you voted for or believe in. 8 passed. Get over it.
HONESTLY, I can't believe all you people thought you could mess with God, in dark times the light will always shine. While all you supports of gay marriage were only hoping, we had our people and churches FASTING for God's law. If only you understood the power in that. Give it up and repent.
Thanks Evangelicals!
THAT'S REALLY GAY!
…maybe it's time for all wedding planners, floral designers, dressmakers, caterers and any other professional field that may attract a talented gay person to move to another state and leave the bigots to fend for themselves. "We've Only Just Begun" in one way and two steps back in another…
Re: luchischirris – Hot First lady????? DO we want some coked up, pill-poppin Crypt Keeper as the First Lady???? FUCK OFF.
Even though I'm not gay, What the FUCK is wrong with California??? Who cares who you marry if you love them? California can shove Prop 8 up their tight asses. Obama elected - we step forward - prop 8 we step right the fuck backward. Why not take away voting rights for women and blacks now eh California?
STUPID!
There is nothing wrong with gay marriage!!!! It works fine here in Holland and it should be accepted in the states too!
Re: Marie99 – Bullshit. I know plenty of Athiests who are married. Or does that mean they're not married? Marriage and religion are separate - that's why you can marry at city hall, or on a ship, or get a license online moron.
[re=3067453]Re: Smirks[/re: did u get a lot of fucking done last night?
Seriously?!? I really thought you Californians were a lot more open minded and tolerant than this!
that ridiculous….one of the most liberal states in the US and THEY pass a law like that. it's 2008!!!! what is wrong with the world.
WAIT WAIT… what was supposed to happen? Oh yea that's right.. CHANGE… FEEL THE CHANGE….
assholes.
OBAMA IS MIXED. HIS MOM IS WHITE AND FROM KANSAS. STOP CALLING HIM THE FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT.
I'M GLAD PROP 8 PASSED.
Re: Cristina mmmmmmmm – As I posted after you (but before I read this), I don't oppose anyone who chooses to be of an alternative lifestyle. If you're a woman and you want to munch carpet… by all means go ahead. If you're gay and want to suck on a few lollipops, suck away. If you're Perez Hilton, you have a sad life, ha ha ha ha.
I just refuse to go the same way that Perez wants us to go. I'm showing him that he has the power to influence people to vote the opposite of him as long as he remains the typo queen of all queens.
Re: jazzmony – I couldn't have said it better. Why is one triumph overshadowed by such ignorance?
Re: LeahGrace89 – I thought that was why you guys wanted Obama as President…… hmmmmm dont feel fulfilled yet? Poor thing.
Re: jlove209 – Open your eyes. I feel fucking sorry for you…
Re: tellin ya what I know – You know nothing.
Thank you to everyone who voted NO on prop 8. You may not have won the fight, but you voted for what was right. You voted for the protection of rights. How can a nation that covets its rights so vehemently ever consider taking them away from its people? Gay, straight or lesbian, we are all Americas people. The ones who had the least to lose (ie NOTHING) won this fight. You voted to steal rights away from fellow Americans. How very sad.
Re: wareagle08 – You should be ashamed of the hatred coming out of you. And, there is absolutely nothing wrong with being born gay. I will make sure that all of the children in my life understand that.
WTF!!!!!?????? ….. wow seriously?????….. ooookkkk?????? ….. yeah everyone….lets just discriminate shall we??? …this is suppose to be the time of CHANGE!!!!
that sucks i was sure that there would be enough gays and gay supporters in california to stop prop 8. i'd like to invite all gay californians to move to Vancouver BC where gay marriage is legal and here to stay!
Prop. 8 passing is the worst thing that has happened in this state. I am not gay, but many of my friends are, and they, as well as myself are devastated. I hate all of the people that voted for this Prop. to pass, they are all assholes, and I hope that they get what is coming to them. This is not fair and no right.
Here we are, living in the land of the free and yet, their are people who cant legally bind their love with marriage. SO WRONG!!! Not all Mormon's were for prop 8. Actually a good majority were against it, me being one of them. It's wrong and very sad that it came to that.
It breaks my heart. Not only does it break my heart that people think they have the right to withhold basic human rights from people simply because they disagree with their lifestyle that isn't even effecting them (what was their best argument.. oh right, being taught in schools about gay marriage.. only I don't recall even once discussing any sort of marriage in school)… and it breaks my heart that people I love will have such a beautiful right of passage TAKEN BACK away from them simply because they love the "wrong" gender. It is frightening that CIVIL LIBERTY can't be respected..
I am so so sorry that my vote and discussions with others wasn't enough.
Goes to show everyone that if 'liveral' california still has morals then this election was a fraud. How much cool aid did everyone drink before going in to vote? How many times did people vote? How much control was there with the election process?
Most importantly, why didn't the media wait until all the votes were counted before calling the election? Can you say FIXED???????????????????
Don't tell me this is what MLK wanted. He said don't judge me by the color of my face and that is what all you people did. You thought that if I don't vote for an African American then I am racist. Well welcome to Hell everyone. They are going to drag this country down. Our signs will now read: Welfare to America instead of Welcome to America.
I am not moved and he is not my president.
Who made it official?
Re: BlancheD – Well tell that to those who voted No on Prop 8 in California that their vote counted. Right now they must feel like shit because it passed.
VOTE YES on 8… oh wait, they did. THANK YOU CALIFORNIA.
it's ok Mario, nobody in their right mind would marry you anyway
I feel so bad for all of you out there who this negatively affects. I am a straight woman but I suppor the gay community. We have a big population in Toronto and I love going to the pride parade every year. They are not hurting anyone by being in love, isn't that a right we should all have. It doesn't matter if you love a man or a woman as long as you have that love at the end of the day thats all the matters. It is soo wrong to mix religion and politics. Just like not everyone agrees on the same governement policies not everyone follows the same religion. You are putting that in the constitution and that is soo wrong. 1 step ahead for Obama as prez..2 steps back for discrimination. Those of you who voted Yes should be ashamed of yourselves. What happened to the land of the "FREE"? Never soo proud to be CANADIAN!
I'm not gay but this is fucking wrong! Fucking asswipes! Where is the "freedom" that the Constitution is based on??????? This country is really sucking right now!
I'm so sorry. You can still get married in the UK though
Maybe you should stay here.
This is fucked up!
remember GOD IS LOVE NOT HATE!!!
This isn't going to change anyones day to day life so move on.
If your in a happy committed relationship that piece of paper isn't going to change that.
So many millions wasted just to promote discrimination. I guess hate really has no bounds, even (or especially) when it comes to a "religious" organization.
In any case, they're just delaying the inevitable. No one will support a gay marriage ban in the future when the only other countries that ban it are either Islamic, communist or underdeveloped.
The still have a civil union, but they will not be recognized as a married couple. You can read the details on line at the proposition home page.
This is a very sensitive subject, but the right thing to do is to protect the sanctity of marriage as God intended: 1 man and 1 woman.
Gays will cry foul and say it's Christian homophobia and intolerance. The truth is that Christians are just following God's law and not just opinion. God has never and never will change his mind on this issue, so as a Christian neither will I. Truth is not an Opinion!!!!!!
That is just terrible! So sad that it passed.
Fuck Barack…he's an anti-gay homophobe!!!!
SERIOUSLY?!
America, THIS IS SICK!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
The fight for equality will continue!
Re: wareagle08 –
That is not true wareagle. There is NOTHING that says that they would have to teach gay marriage in schools.
That was a hate mongering campaign that stooped to lying in order to win the vote.
Go ahead- look at the requirements from the California board of Education.
It is different district by district, but SF already has a requirement to discuss different types of relationships, not just heterosexual relationships….
Ignorance, fear and hate were the three fundamentals that Yes to Prop 8 were relying on. And they won.
It breaks my heart that people are so closed minded.
California should be ashamed.
at the end of the day, Americans still weren't ready for change…. even if the change was just what the people needed
don't worry Perez, the Americans will be ready soon enough
and when they are, it will have been worth the wait
NO. it's not over yet. they refuse to stop counting the votes; they say there's still a couple million that have yet to be counted.
Re: beachbum88 – because we hoped maybe u people had fuckin open ur eyes and realised what fucktards u were and how wrong aswell. Why is there so many homophobes reading perez's page then. Hypocrites!! CAnt believe ur homophobic and proud of it. Fuck u
Tough break, gays. I hope that this can be overturned in the Supreme court.
Such depressing news, I'm so happy that Obama won yet so sad that prop H8te has passed. This truly sucks.
Re: Eva – Because I enjoy reading about celebrities' stupid actions (just how out of touch can most of these people be) and I enjoy watching Perez squirm about the earth falling everytime he disagrees with something. I also enjoy answering why people when they wonder why i read a gay man's blog. Let's see what else can I come up with…
Really though I just like watching people in the public spotlight make an ass of themselves.
Let me also put it this way, I'd be more supportive of the GLBT community if I didn't have to see their ridiculous protests, parades, clothing choices, etc. All these actions do is convince me that they want the attention for a lifestyle choice they have made. Sorry that some others who act normal get lumped into this group but that's the way I feel. Let me also add that I disagree with many of the benefits that our Government gives hetero married couples. Why should they get any different treatment than an unmarried person?
Re: star_lite57 – The problem, if you asses didn't understand it ALREADY… is that people who are more religious and want the right to teach their children that marriage is sacred between a man and a woman now would have problems if gay marriage were allowed. They would be required to let the schools teach their kids that gay marriage is normal and not wrong; they'd be required to allow gay marriage in religious institutions, and if they didn't allow it, the gay couple could sue. Gay marriage measures would step on OUR rights, the rights of the religious, conservative individuals and families. Civil Unions allow for the same rights that are given to a straight married couple. What's the problem?! Call it a marriage if you want. Just don't change the name legally. It's been this way for centuries now. I love my gay friends and family, but I cannot change my own personal opinions and religious beliefs just so a bunch of idiots who slander MY name all the time can have their "Marriage rights". Maybe if yall hadn't made vicious attacks continuously against the churches (ESP. the Mormons), then you would have won. Leave the Mormons alone. The people, not the church, did nothing wrong except donate to a cause THEY believed in.
Re: Nickysue – Don't get to comfortable with this change. It's not even official yet. And, don't under estimate the power gays in California. There's plenty of $$ to defeat the poor communities that voted Yes on H8.
Re: erhg74 – ]
Did YOU vote? I have my opinions and can cast my ballet accordingly. You don't see me spewing the same hate that was in your reply to my comment. That's the beauty of this country fool, everyone has a voice and it appears the people of California have spoken. Hope YOU voted.
WE WENT TO THE ENEMY'S CAMP AND TOOK BACK WHAT HE STOLE FROM US. Satan is a liar, homosexuality is a sin!!!!

I've been coming to your site for quite sometime - I am someone who does not hate anyone or discriminate against anyone - but what your preaching is total BS. This subject should have nothing to do with politics or religion. A marriage has been between a man and a woman since the beginning of time and it should not be fucked with. Sorry you feel it's discrimination

So Did Florida and Arizona. Hollywood is out of touch with what America Feels. Also, many people in California Who Voted For Barack Obama Voted Yes on 8, so don't blame it on religious freaks and republicans. Hopefully now people will see what marriage is and what America sees it at. The gays won't lose their domestic partnership rights. Glad this passed. YEs on 8.
So Wrong in so many ways. Hopefully the people of Cali will fight this and never give up. I wanna hear from someone supporting prop 8 and find out the reasons for your support of the proposition. Not looking to fight and bicker im just curious.
I just don't understand.
The American people say they want change, and they're willing to go as far as to vote for it on a presidential level, but then they turn their backs on this issue — in more than one state, too.
Gay marriage rights aren't just NECESSARY, they are OBVIOUS and DESERVED. The idea that anyone in this country shouldn't be allowed to make legal a perfectly natural, totally personal, and absolutely non-threatening declaration of lifetime commitment is so beyond me.
I'm so disappointed; next time we rally for change, let's make sure it positively affects EVERYONE who needs and wants it.
