Re: BlancheD – San Diego voted yes on 8!holla
I VOTED NO ON 8….HMMMMM GUESS MY ONE LIL VOTE WASNT ENOUGH…ITS A FUCKED UP THING….CALIFORNIA…WHAT HAPPENED….
last night was such a ground breaking moment in history. as a nation we took 10 steps forward, and sadly the passing of prop 8 showed that we took 5 steps back. love is a universal language! shouldn't everyone be able to love freely?! this pass is unfair and wrong! as a LGBT ally i'm heartbroken.
Re: dutchcookie – ..you have always been more open minded in regard to many more things than gays. The world should have learned from you by now…
Re: so_much_joy – I take that as a compliment coming from someone who obviously has a different outlook on life than I do…thank you. [At least I'm a "mojority" douche]
So fucking wrong!
Re: LettyB –
Ha Ha Ha. Thats funny.
That is so stupid
It's like saying black/asian etc.. people can't get married
Re: Oh Please! – Oh please! WTF do you know what God intends? Get a clue fool.
Re: Goodbye Sweet America!!!COLON!!! Goodby – You're a fucking douche bag cocksucker and you should SHUT THE FUCK UP. No one cares what you think.
Re: itsallinlove – Nothing to be proud of. Never did spend much time there - too many drugs and illegal aliens.
Re: BlancheD – With almost all precincts reporting, election returns showed the measure winning with 52 percent. Some provisional and absentee ballots remained to be tallied, but based on trends and the locations of the votes still outstanding, the margin of support in favor of the initiative was secure.
I'm not too concerned about the flipping. Prop 8 has passed and all the wishing and hoping will be like 2000 again: WE WIN!
I find it interesting how many people are waiting for someone to challenge this. It went on the ballot and passed, stop trying to make someones vote mean nothing.
You are outnumbered and the people have spoken!!
Re: Goodbye Sweet America!!!COLON!!! Goodby – Don't worry, you ignorant inbreeder, this isn't over. We'll keep fighting to overturn this, just like African-Americans had to.
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG W/PEOPLE? I REALLY DON'T GET IT..PEOPLE SHOULD MIND THEIR OWN GOD DAMN BUSINESS AND NOT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT WHAT OTHER PEOPLE DO..GET A FUCKING LIFE PEOPLE ITS 2008, YOU LIVE IN THE FUCKIN IGNORANT PAST!
I'm glad of the outcome. For all of you gay people out there, pick up and read a bible. Do you not remember the stories of the city that God burn down because of they practiced homosexuality. This is WRONG!! Are you blind? God would not bring you into this world to be Gay. It is a CHOICE. Americans shouldn't have to condone your sexuality and let you have whatever you want. God made man and woman. He didn't make just men to go have sex with other men. This country is basically the city of Babylon. If any of you know your bible then you should know what happen to that city that practice homosexuality. Grow up and stop blaming being born gay your reason to be gay. It was your choice. Americans shouldn't have to accept your personal choice and change the American values to accommodate your needs.
I feel for you and the entire LGBT community here in California. I voted no on Prop 8, and I was so sure that we would be successful in preventing it from passing. I suppose America just isn't ready to completely let go of old stigmas, but let's give it time! Look how far minorities' and women's rights have come in the past half-century. Some day we WILL see an America that is free of hate and discrimination, and then we will be an even greater country than we are right now. It is our generation's responsibility to teach our children to respect all human beings regardless of skin color, culture or sexual orientation.
Wow! You would think if any state would allow gay marriage, it would be California. What a blow to the gay rights movement. When will people understand that not allowing us to get married will not make us go away or change who we love? What are they afraid of??? Don't the homophobes know this will only make us work harder for the same rights we deserve as Americans?
Re: Oh Please! – 'God's Law' written by men.
WOo HOooOO!!! I'm HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!! Marriage is not for gays! You choose to go against God's will and now look at you!
lets ban religion next
Re: BlancheD – It's too bad your education failed you in history or you would have learned that marriage has always been a traditionally religious institution. Of course Atheists can marry, but I'm betting they didn't get married by a minister or they wouldn't be Atheist, would they? Cry about our founding fathers creating a state without religious influences all you want, but you WILL see religious influences everywhere: "one nation under God" "in God we trust" the president who swears on a Bible for his oath of office, all of the businesses that close on Sunday for religious observances, Easter, Christmas–it's everywhere. Don't be surprised when spiritual people are tired of being forced to accept a lifestyle that imposes on their own freedom of religion.
I am so sorry to hear that guys. In 50 years time Western society will look back on this time in horror.
Re: BlancheD –
If "money" defeats the poor - the Obama would have lost…Harlem, Newark NJ - people's votes count - like it or not - and I don't live in CA and didn't vote for Obama
Think of the money y'all just saved on wedding presents!
i love california…but this…this is one of our very low points…grrrrr WTF!!!!!
this came to me from a friend & I share his sentiments exactly.
I'm embarrassed to be a native Californian today. We are supposed to be the leaders of cultural change. I no longer see how a state that prides and advertises itself on such values. All I know is I live in a state that would rather give rights to our farm animals than fellow human beings. Thanks conservatives and religious rights. Thanks for imposing your values on me but hey, what's new, right? This one's for you and I'll never forget it.
People are acting as if you can't have a real civil union in california- with the SAME rights as marriage. YOU CAN. But people really draw the line at calling people of the same sex MARRIED. that is a legal and religious term for a MAN and a WOMAN. Why do you want to pretend you are something you aren't? It's a DEFINITION- a legal term. Get a different WORD. it's so easy. You can't pretend to be an orange when you are an apple. Just get on with it. Go get your contractual union. oh wait- do you even DATE, Perez? I mean, I have NEVER seen you with another guy. What's up with that?
Yay!!!! HAHAHA At lease I can be happy about this…Fuck off gays and if you want to be married return to being a normal straight person!
Re: perezsucksass – - this is the most stupid thing I have ever read.
Yay! I'm doing my happy dance!
Thank you to everyone who voted NO on prop 8. You may not have won the fight, but you voted for what was right. You voted for the protection of rights. How can a nation that covets its rights so vehemently ever consider taking them away from its people? Gay, straight or lesbian, we are all Americas people. The ones who had the least to lose (ie NOTHING) won this fight. You voted to steal rights away from fellow Americans. How very sad.
I'm so sorry to hear that, it's really sad that in this day in age people still feel as though they have the right to tell other people who they are allowed to love. On a day when we take one step forward and unfortunately two steps back:(
haha! now take that cocksuckers!
even though you girls spent a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge amount of money on propaganda the majority of the people has spoken!!
now suck on that!
LA county actually voted *for* it - I was really surprised by that. The No on 8 campaign was really bad though. They weren't fast enough at retorting the yes side. This issue isn't dead though - it was so close.
Re: Bexter – civil unions DO NOT give us the same rights ignorant people should get educated
Re: Marie99 –
VERY nicely put!
:)
Actually, if you read Exodus where the 10 commandments are written, it clearly states that God's finger wrote the 10 commandments in stone–you know, so they oculd be eternal. Why is it that Christians are bashed for defending God's law? Would that being the gays being intolerant of the Christians? Is reverse tolerance acceptable then? You guys confuse me. Especially those of you who try to equate racism and interracial marriage with gay marriage rights–helloooo–not the same thing…the 10 commandments do not condemn race or interracial marriage.
Re: julesnj – "religious" freaks? what? it's an issue of the word. i don't care what you do with your mouth or your other body parts. Do what you want. It's your life. But you aren't heterosexual and can't legally be married. You can be legally joined in some other union, but you can't call it marriage. Go LOOK up the legal definition of marriage. Just because you were born gay doesn't mean you can change the definition of man and wife. Just go make a different law. Don't care. I'm pretty sure that is why people voted that way. Lots of people who aren't particularly religious feel that way. Stubbornly resisting it and insisting you need THAT word just keeps you from making progress.
NOOOOO!!
Sorry perez
Re: jazzmony – get over it homo…none of you "black" peeps can play the race card ever…so STFU!! If you took all the black votes and white votes we would have outnumbed you and we elected Barack one nation under God you damn fool…
god america is so backwards.. us prim brits are way fabber!
Re: Marie99 – THANK YOU. Someone with sense.
As a straight, religious conservative, I've grown weary with the demands of the GLBT community and their annoying tactics and antics AS WELL as their continued mockery of the religious folk of this nation. Don't expect me to bow down to you when you slander my name continuously EVERY DAY. It's time that the religious people take back their dignity and stop bowing down to appease what's popular.
I watched history be made last night and cried tears of joy. I felt anything was possible and that we had all made a conscience change as a society. I am so very happy to have Obama as our president and I feel we have accomplished what we as Americans have been raised to believe could happen one day…equality for all. Then this, when will we learn love is love, we are all one, we were all born and we will all die and we all bleed the same color of blood. I cannot believe 50% of us in California are still ignorant bastards. I hope all of the gays and lesbians know you are supported by the other 50% who will continue to push for your RIGHT to marry. Equal rights were PROMISED IN THE CONSTITUTION, how can we ignore that and change that when the founding fathers PROMISED IT!!
Re: Bird – gay
SO RIGHT!!! SO RIGHT!!! If you want to be treated equally then you should not have chosen to be GAY!!!
too bad, so sad.
whatever. get over it.
A bad day for bigots is a good day for the world, and vice versa.
Re: Marie99 – You are so ignorant I have nothing more to say to you.
BOOOOOO
Re: WhiteGirl – I bet your fat and your mother is also your sister and your aunt you fucking ugly red neck trailer trash fuck-tard
i am disappointed for you perez keep the hope up thouggh things can and will change in the future GO OBAMA!!
I'm so sorry for all directly touched by this form of bigotry. A right taken from any one of us affects us all. It's not over!!!!!!!!
How is that possible…so horrific!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can anyone tell me where God's finger has been for the past, I don't know, say 7,000 years give or take? Is God a one trick pony?
i was hoping that cali would set the example of how great true equality could be. here in texas there is no hope of any gay rights happening anytime soon. now it seems even less likely since even the state of california couldn't say no to prop 8.
Re: BlancheD – oh, good one.
last night we witnessed huge steps toward equality in America and the universal realization that all people were created equal and should be treated as such - regardless of skin colour or sexual preference!
It's sad that religion can cloud our ability to embrace differences and treat each other equally, but take heart Perez - we WILL see equality for gays and lesbians in our lifetime.
wow wrong indeed So happy that here where I live gays can get MARRIED as all the other humans beings around.
This is wrong…we need a re-do.
Re: Marie99 – Don't you think people are born gay, talk to a gay person just once and they will tell you they knew they liked the same sex very early in life, sometimes when they were 3 or 4 and crushing on their first crush. If that's the case is it possible God made them that way. Maybe we all are what we are meant to be…gay, straight, black, white…it can't all just be random. If that's the case, do you think he makes mistakes…is that it.
He made us, he created us, he knew us before we were created.
This one definitely hurts my heart! But, I guess we take the wins with the losses. I think this will be an issue that is NOT going to go away and at least the people will talking. It is better to love and let EVERYONE love, then be scared what allowing people rights might bring!
I am so thankful that Prop. 8 passed. I am thankful for the sake of the children of this country and for our country that was founded on the principle's of God's law. You may call us religious freaks if you want. We will be praying for your souls.
Re: ksheree – That's like saying you shouldn't have been born black or white or asian or ugly or fat or female or male. I personally don't think you should have been born so thick but i have to live with you in the world you bloody moron. go suck george bush's cock you in-breed.
Re: Sensible – That is the most ridiculous mumbo jumbo i've ever heard. Since when can't parents teach their children their values at home? Just because gay marriage may be talked about once or twice during a school year, doesn't mean that the kid is going to be brainwashed into "being gay" or thinking that being gay is acceptable. If a parent wants to teach their kid that gay marriage is wrong, they can still do so at home. I guess if you think your kid is too stupid to comprehend the fact that people have different opinions, then i can see why you'd be scared to allow it to hear other views.
btw I didn't mention anything about Mormons and bible thumpers….
To address your point "they'd be required to allow gay marriage in religious institutions" ….that is so untrue.
Kind of like a men's club that only allows men….or a veterans hang out that only allows veterans…a church could still have a rule that only straight couples are allowed to be married inside. Do you hear of women suing men's clubs for not being allowed inside? I'm sure if gay marriage was legal, all your precious churches wouldn't have become overrun with the unwanted gays. There would have been lots of places that would welcome them inside with open arms.
Get a grip! Stop worrying about what everybody else is doing or who everybody else is fucking. Get a life and let others live theirs in peace!!!
Religious Folks - Kinda ironic isn't it… hating on gays. Doesn't the bible say "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and "love they neighbour".
Do you really think that means judge gays and keep them from having the same rights that straight people have?? Get over it
This is ridiculous.
My brother wanted to get married this spring. He's been working hard, planning the wedding, doing all those things straight people do while getting ready for the big day. He didn't rush it because he said it was too important, too special. He wanted it to mean something.
Prop 8 has taken it all away from him, just because of a bunch of ignorant bigots. I really thought that my state was better then that.
Religious issues aside, I'm sure many people who voted yes on 8 did so as a big middle finger to the 4 supreme court judges who decided that democracy meant nothing and repealed 2000's Proposition 22. Many people voted simply to retain what they had successfully voted for 8 years earlier and had it taken away from them on the whims of 4 judges.
Whether you're for or against gay marriage, the people have spoken and this is what it means to live in a free society.
Re: Marie99 – seperation of church and state, loser.
so Ellen and Portia arent married??
Re: BlancheD – well that doesn't sound very tolerant does it?..maybe you should spend some time here
Re: Mommy to a Little Man – Watch out Mommy. Marie will find some obscure passage from the bible, that God's finger wrote dontchaknow, and throw it in your face. But I sure appreciate what you have to say!
I can't believe this passed!!! So sad
America… California-
We have come so far… but we still have a long way to go. First off I am so fucking STOKED Obama is OUR PRESIDENT!!!! I don't give a rip if he is black, latino, asian, white… all I believe in is what he STANDS FOR. I never saw him as a "black" potential presidential candidate. But as a man who a lot of PEOPLE in this country can relate to. We are all PEOPLE of this country who all deserve the same rights as every other PERSON in this country. So to see my fellow Californians being ripped of their constitutional right as a citizen of the United States of America saddens me. The gay and lesbians of my state will no longer have this right as a citizen to marry. Why? Because of DISCRIMINATION. And I can't think of any group other than the religious groups of this state for putting all their NON-TAXED money, time and effort into the Yes on Prop 8 campaigns. Thank you Knights of Columbus for funding all those commercials filled with LIES. Thank you Mormons, Catholics, and Christians alike for funding and promoting hate on your fellow Californians. The rights the churches use to protect themselves are gonna be the same rights gays and lesbians of California are going to use to fight for their rights. California you made sure to pass on the ethical treatment of animals… you would rather see animals treated better than your fellow Californians?! ONE LOVE!!! COEXISTS!!! YES WE CAN!!! SI SE PEUDE!!!!
Re: hmmmph36 – who says marriage is between a man and a woman? the bible? seperation of church and state
this is a huge step back for America…
Re: Watty – i agree that love is love, but there will be no "legal" rights. and that sucks
it's fucking terrible; it makes me so angry that there is still so much hate in this country.
Re: tinye68 – seperation of church and state
Suck it, Perez. Oh that's right, you already do….
Re: ksheree – Thank god for 4th July when we the english got rid of shit-heads like you!!!! woooo *does happy dance*
I am disgusted by the passage of Prop 8!!!!! WHEN will our nation stop allowing the hyper-religious make rules that supercede civil rights??!!! NO laws should prevent one's ability to consenually contract with another. WHY has this not been seen as equal to how blacks were treated prior to the Civil Rights Act???! I can only hope that our new president gets a handle on this and truly SEPARATES church and state. SHAME to any of you who voted for such a revoltingly unfair proposition.
Re: beleevr – I hope your kids are gay
So unbelievably sad. It is ironic how on the eve a black man is elected president after his people have been oppressed for so long another group, the Gay and Lesbian community, is oppressed in California and Florida. One step forward, one step back, and we're still in the same place. The fight for gay and lesbian equality will our generations civil rights movement as the fight for African-American equality was our parents. I am a straight member of the gay-straight alliance and we will fight this and one day maybe our constitution will actually live up to what it says "And Justice for all." Until then, we fight this battle and we will win this war for equality that so many are trying to take away from us by passing this hideous piece of legislature! Stand up for what is right!!!
Re: buckeyefan – separation of church and state…dimwit
I guess America is only ready for a little change. I can't believe my state can be so short-sighted and unfair.
This just makes me cry tears of frustration. I teach my children that we are ALL EQUAL, all humans, and it's all about being a GOOD human. How is Prop 8 passing good in ANY way whatsoever.
To all my LGBT sisters and brothers, my heart goes out to you today, my tears fall for what has been thrust upon you, and I will hope and pray that this horrible proposition fails SOMEHOW!
Love always,
Tami (A straight christian mom in Vegas)
Re: julesnj –
Haha. You are doing exactly what you accuse them of doing. Hating! You are a hypocrite. You only believe in democracy when it goes your way.
Re: hellodavid – This was a "re-do". In 2000, Proposition 22 declaring that marriage was between a man and a woman passed by a majority of 61% in California.
Re: i hate the south –
What the hell are you talking about you hate the south??? California vote YES to banning gam marriage not the south, dumb ass.
I don't get it… liberal Californians who so crazily campaigned for a liberal president to have their liberal ways DIDN"T vote against this. IF the democrats are so open minded and liberal, then why would this vote even have been close? Either some people aren't so open-minded, or they are homophobic. What say YOU Calilfornia?
Re: BlancheD – I know MY GOD loves all….he made all for a reason. Marie can stick her passages where the sun doesn't shine.
Re: itsallinlove – No thanks. Don't care for crime. Wouldn't want to live near people who think like you.
WTF?! Seriouslyyyy… This is fucking *BULLSHIT*- Everyone should have the fucking right to marry whoever the fuck they want to, especially considering the only real problem anyone had with this is fucking religious bullshit… How many people around California are die-hard religious fanatics anyways? It breaks my heart to think that someday if I had a child who completely fell head over heels with someone of the same sex, I would never be able to watch them marry their significant other "under god"- let them be happy and have a wedding commemorating such a glorious occasion- because assholes out there voting are so fucking closed minded.. how many straight marriages actually work out anyways? What the fuck people!
Re: SoCal – is that somehow an insult?? that he sucks cock?? omg are you 5?! are you a pervert?? why do you care about anyone else's sexuality?? probably because you are a creepy gross perv.. sicko. ewwwwwwwwwwww you're fucking gross! I'm a woman married to a man, and I'm glad that my best-friend in the world can marry her girlfriend and raise their kids together and I am proud to give my unborn daughter her name, because i live in a world of equality, being the UK. you live in a country where polygamous marriages are, or were legal in those mormon states and you think that is ok.. how odd are you you weird perverty freak. go fuck your mum you red neck creep.
I guess now that marriage is stronger, the divorce rate will plummet. Next thing you know they will be telling gays to wear armbands.
Re: Marie99 – Aww Marie. Im happy for you! You keep jumping up and down with your bible in hand and sing good songs about the word of god. And you keep singing songs to god and tell him you support discrimination. Because your lord and savior Jesus Christ wont stop the Federal Supreme Court from over turning this ban. You know the 14th amendment? You know the one people use for…. ummm… what's it called…. EQUALITY!!!! See you bitches in Federal court. Because every right the religious groups of this country use to protect them and what they believe in is what will help protect all the OTHER people in this country. So hold your bible close to your heart Marie. The people who carry the biggest bibles either don't understand it or never open it. I remember learning about god telling me to hate others for being different in catechism… NOT. Yes I do believe in god. But I am sorry but I don't have to follow everything my church tells me, you see there is this great thing called a mind. You should use yours once in a while to think for yourself to determine what's right from wrong. Get your nose out of your bible and look around you.
California, the almighty liberal state. Yeah right, you have a Republican Governor, most people want gay marriage banned and I saw a couple from California on My Redneck Wedding. Haha! Next thing you know you will be a Red State!
omg so wrong! that sucks.
To some people.. marriage is more meaningful than just uniting under god.. although that is what people assume marriage is all about, what about the people who really just found someone they truly love with all their hearts, mutually, and want the same rights as everyone else in this world to celebrate that, to make it "official".. it isn't fucking fair and it isn't fucking right to tell them they can't do that.. end of story.. :/
