not in a long shot i would ever imagine that something like this would pass in California. when will people ever learn? gay IS natural, it IS normal!there's nothing evil about loving people of the same sex. gay people should have access to any legal right. i mean, there's no proposition for gay people not paying taxes because they're "unhuman", right? that's revolting! one day it will change Perez.
On more thing. I guess this proves my point that Celebs have little influence on anything. With all the star power speaking out and giving money, Prop 8 still passed. I think we should all be treated equal, the gay community should find your MLK, then 40 years from now you might see some change. Good Luck!

I am Canadian and could not vote in your elections but I have been watching Prop 8 closely. I am extremely dissappointed in how it has turned out. I am very sad for many people today who have lost the right to marry the person they love. If we don't discriminate based on skin color then why do we discriminate against people based on their sexual orientation? I know that the fight is not over and I am still hopeful that things will change in the near future. Stay strong Perez!

I voted for Obama without reservation because he is also against gay marriage (he said this at the meeting with Rick Warren). When it comes to gay marriage, I prefer to stick with the 10 commandments and 1 Corinthians 6:9,10.

I am glad that Prop 8 passed. I feel the country should give gays and lesbians every right as a married couple, but have that be called a "Civil Union". They could have a ceremony, could file the paperwork at the courthouse, could visit their partner in the hospital — all the rights that a married man and women have. But, I believe that the tern "Marriage' is only for one man married to one woman. I do believe in equal, Civil Rights, but it just needs another name (like Civil Union).

I don't hate gay people, I'm glad gay people are being treated more fairly now than ever before, but I still don't want their will imposed on my religious beliefs. I understand that Civil Unions afford couples the same rights as heterosexual couples with Civil Ceremonies (marriage without a minister but in front of a judge). If that's not entirely true, then let's get to work on making civil unions more like regular civil ceremonies. I'm just tired of people not respecting my civil rights of freedom of religion so I can accept their civil rights that clash with my religion. It's a vicious cycle.

I personally believe that many people were duped by how Prop 8 was worded. "Vote Yes on Prop 8 if you believe in marriage." If I was uninformed I would probably vote for it - I have nothing against marriage. Of course then there are the haters and bigots out there who get pleasure in other people's pain. We're so lucky to have so many of them with us on this blog today.

The passage of proposition 8 does not affect domestic partnership so get over it people! Besides I find it very wrong for homosexuals to try to make a union that is considered sacred for a man and a woman their own. I have no problem with gays being together but marriage is a religious and spiritual thing!

Clearly, you are mistaken. Our forefathers experienced great persecution in their lifetime, much of it from religious groups in England, and when they came to America, they even made sure to write into the Constitution a little thing called SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE specifically so people couldn't use their religious beliefs to persecute others. And, by the way, there are a lot of people who are religious who support gays and gay marriage, and even more and more churches opening every day that allow gays into their congregations. So really you don't have an excuse because you are religious to hate, clearly a lot of others aren't getting that message. Jesus taught to love neighbors and do unto them as they would do on to you. I respect the fight and voice that people gave in voting against the ban, but the people of California spoke yesterday through their vote and voted their conscious.
As a Christian, I want to tell you that Jesus DOES love everyone, including gays, and Prop 8 had nothing to do about civil rights, but had everything to do with keeping what God established as a sacred covenant, valued in our society (one of the few things left). We spoke up because we believe what his word says. It takes faith to believe " a book of stories' as someone called it, but it also takes faith to believe against it.
Who do you think gave you that conscious, soul, set of feelings, and mind? God did. Please don't tell me you think it was monkeys and Darwinism? He gave everyone a choice, and did NOT make someone gay from the get go. That's a choice.
If a Christian has every offended a gay person, I want to apologize on their behalf. Jesus created us in his image and teaches us to love everyone. I may disagree with the lifestyle, but I don't hate the people.
It's sad to think that this vote may be affected by those who find it popular, as opposed to what's right. YES! Attorney General Jerry Brown changed the original title for Prop 8 from "Limit on Marriage" to "Eliminates RIGHT of Same-Sex Couples to Marry." As a result of that misleading wording, support for Prop. 8 dropped 8 points. ALL these liberal efforts to thwart Proposition 8 and it STILL PASSED! And if people keep harping on it to overturn it or whatever, it just shows how low the gay community will stoop to bypass the democratic process for their own selfish agenda. You have domestic partnerships that give you the same rights as spouses — what the hell are you bitching about??? Leave your meathooks out of marriage!
