Proposition 8 Protest Rally & Street Closures
Wednesday, November 5th
As deeply disappointed as we all are that California voters passed Proposition 8, we must not allow that disappointment to linger. This vote is a temporary defeat in the long march toward equal rights for all citizens in America.
Please join me for a protest rally tonight at 7 pm on San Vicente Blvd between West Hollywood Park and the Pacific Design Center (647 N. San Vicente Blvd. West Hollywood CA 90069) as we move forward towards restoring equality for all in California.
San Vicente Blvd, between Santa Monica Blvd and Melrose Avenue will be closed tonight starting at 6 pm. San Vicente south-bound traffic will be directed to make left or right at Santa Monica Blvd. Signs have already been posted to help divert traffic.

This should not be compared to race issues. Wake up: The overwhelming ration-based percentage voting FOR prop 8 were African Americans! Equal rights for some, I guess, but not all? A historic night, indeed. Cards were shown, that's for sure. How could over 65% of African Americans have voted "yes" on 8? How? WHY. But folks voted YES on prop 2, so, Perez, to some you are not quite as important as livestock, I'm afraid. Crazy world.
If I were CA, I would be there! No one should have their rights taken away! I'm amazed that Prop H8 passed. It's sad that AZ, FL, and AR have chosen discrimination over unity. At least we got OBAMA!!!

When the nation voted for a African American president, it broke the race barrier. When we are rejoicing "Yes we can" and patting our backs on the historic win of Obama, we refuse to acknowledge that hate bacame law in 4 states. CA, FL, AR, AK banning same sex marriage and banning gay adoption and fostering.
Are we sending mixed signals to the world? When do we realize gay rights are basic rights and not special rights? When do we realize majority voting on minority is fundamentally wrong. We have slavery and the Civil war to remind us of that tragedy again and again.
Here again, the gay community is waiting with a begging bowl for its basic human rights.
Shame on anyone who voted banning gay marriages. Hope you feel proud of yourself for helping to write hate in the state law books. You have denied human rights for the current and future generations. You will be laughed at in the future for your bigotry.

Its not hate, you have the option of the protections of civil partnership and no one cares if you call your significant other your wife/husband. You also have the option to marry the opposite sex. You also had the option to vote for a canidate who didn't state it was against his religion and he was against it. But you thought you would jump on the minority bandwagon and maybe it would work for you.

The only reason I keep hearing as to why homosexuals should not have the right to be married is based of religious beliefs- marriage between man and woman …BUT….doesn't the constitution state:Amendment 1 - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances
Therefore if you are denying marriage for this reason isn't that congress playing a role in the peoples religious beliefs????

Marriage most definitely did NOT start with Adam and Eve. It began as a CIVIL UNION…it became a "religious thing" after. I am not very religious but I totally respect the fact that it's important to many people to be married in a church, in front of god. I think it's the prerogative of the church whether they want to perform gay marriages or not, but let homosexuals have marriage. It all seems so silly when two men or two women getting married really won't affect you directly. Chill out and let people do what they want. Some of the things written on here are just so so hateful. Wish I lived in CA and could've voted NO on H8TE.

I honestly dont think it's HATE on gays, I think it's just the traditional marriage that people are trying to hang on to. Whether it's right or wrong for the public to decide, I think that's what the 51% wanted…
I think it will eventually be changed & be over-ruled but for now…it passed.
I really try to stress that it's not HATE b/c I voted YES on Prop 8 but I am not against Gays at all, I have a lot of gay friends.
I know to some that may sound hypocritical but its just reality, I want to hold on to the traditional sense but would fight for legal rights for gays if they didn't get unions, parental rights, same financial benefits, etc.

I for one think it's great that we have a black president now… but you know that really doesn't matter to me. By voting to ban gay marriage, you ARE voting to take away a right from your fellow Americans. Can you HONESTLY tell me ONE way in which a gay couple's love affects your every day life? Who gives a shit if you don't like it? It's not your life and you don't have to live it every day.
Last but most DEFINITELY not least - for those of you who think being gay is a CHOICE… go read some science notes, dears. Being gay is NOT a choice. It is built into you… there are chromosomes that are different and MULTIPLE tests and experiments have shown that there are higher levels of estrogen in gay males, and higher levels of testosterone in gay females. It is BUILT INTO YOU.
So go catch up on your history, go catch up on your scientific facts, and before you speak, make sure you have some actual knowledge and facts to back it up, rather than going by what your radical conservative dictators tell you that you should believe.

I think it was awesome that Perez Hilton used the photo of MLK to remind us all that discrimination is discrimination no matter what. I do believe that MLK would have condoned same sex marriage constitutionally because it does violate rights even though he himself does not believe in same sex marriage personally. Does anyone not remember that interracial marriages were illegal in this country not so long ago??? There is really no difference. Whether or not King advocated for gay rights, doesn't matter. It's the message behind the good fight he put up to ensure equal rights for racial monorities.
King wasn't just a leader for race issues, but the ignorant refuse to educate themselves. He also delt with the Vietnam war and poor multi-cultured communities across the country.
Don't fucking sit there and say 'MLK was a black hero for black people' etc etc etc. There were many other factors that made him a great man that had nothing to do with racial issues.
If he didn't agree with gay marriage personally, he would have believed in the equality for both straight and gay U.S citizens. THat's the point.
He fought for a cause and was knocked down more often than naught. But his work and sacrifice soon paid off.
His memory and image should be used for all civil rights issues across the globe, along with many other fine individuals. He wanted unity. Prop 8 and bullshit like it, is what's seperating the planet.
There might be a lot of blame to go around, however, the blame has to be affixed to the LGBT heirarchy. Don't blame apathetic gays, blame the gay leadership. Always start from the top. You can't play softball, when they are playing hardball. The two best commercials were the first, with the Thoron's, and the Samuel L. Jackson narration. The word "discrimination" was not even used until the final week, first uttered by Dianne Feinstein. Whatever agency was in charge of the political ads for the NO on 8 campaign should be flogged for their lack of attack. Now they want to hold a rally. Is that from the money left over from the donations? Then with all the speeches they will lament on what went wrong, and what WE need to do in the future. I think we know what to do, put people in charge that are strong, and make the LGBT a viable force. This isn't just in California, we lost everywhere! NO on BOXER, NO on PELOSI!!!
