The people in San Francisco are taking a stand against injustice!
The San Francisco City Attorney's office is planning to challenge the validity of Proposition H8TE to ban gay marriage.
A rep for the City Attorney's office says City Attorney Dennis Herrera will file the legal challenge in the California Supreme Court.
In addition, the first lesbian couple to get married in Los Angeles County, after the Supreme Court threw out the gay marriage ban, are also planning to bring a lawsuit against Prop 8.
Let's hope a lot of others plan to do the same.
Something needs to be done!

Re: onlyme – No, that doesn't make sense. Yes, they most certainly have "extended" the right to get married to everyone except for gay people. The Bible says that people are not allowed to eat pork. The Bible says that women must marry their rapist. All things that we do not abide by as law. There are multiple religions in this country, and the Bible is not American law… not only for its contradicting nature, but because America allows freedom of RELIGION.

There might be a lot of blame to go around, however, the blame has to be affixed to the LGBT heirarchy. Don't blame apathetic gays, blame the gay leadership. Always start from the top. The word "discrimination" was not even used until the final week, first uttered by Dianne Feinstein. Is that from the money left over from the donations? Then with all the speeches they will lament on what went wrong, and what WE need to do in the future. I think we know what to do, put people in charge that are strong, and make the LGBT a viable force. This isn't just in California, we lost everywhere! I personally voted No on prop 8 because I feel it is not my decision what people do in their own home. Whether two gay people get married or not does not concern nor effect me.
However I am not sad that it did not pass because gays, who are liberal already scored one up on the rest of us and got the president they wanted and the issues that he will oversee are way more relevant than validating your relationship with some peice of paper. So be happy about that.
That being said I stay out of your business and even voted no on your prop 8 I hope in the future you stay out of my business such as my second amendment right. If the United States had used tradition as an excuse to oppose change, cars, electricity, planes, paved roads, interracial marriages, civil rights, the belief in heliocentricity, and countless other things could have never come about. We could still be under Britain's rule. People could be persecuted for differing religious beliefs. Any scientific theory that went against the beliefs of the "traditional" Catholic Church would be disregarded, and the beliefs' perpetuator would be put to death.. Same sex couples who have been together for years should have the same civil rights as any straight couple who has been together for years does REGARDLESS. There is more than just the big ceremony and the fucking title here people, or is that all you really think that's all the LGBT community is in an uproar about? It is NOT a civil rights issue, it is a WORD DEFINITION issue.
The word marriage has already been defined as 1 man, 1 woman. You need a different word to define a gay domestic partnership that has the equal rights as marriage.

Whether people divorce for reasons other than infidelity or whether people marry for the wrong reasons that's their problem, but in the end, marriage is still between a man and a woman. The Scientific community basically is stuck that homosexuals are born with a genetic disposition towards homosexuality that is some how activated in their lives.
This most definitely is a Civil Rights issue and violation. Closing off a group of people to the rights of others simply because of something they have no control over. This is why Civil Rights should not be up for a vote, the majority will always vote to suppress the minority. They are scared of change, a lot of those that voted McCain are also afraid of change. Both Obama and Biden opposed prop 8, they also oppose nationalized gay marriage, at the federal level. Instead preferring for each state to decide when they are comfortable with allowing same-sex marriage. It's extremely unconstitutional under the 14th amendment. Very similar to Perez v. Sharp (Look it up — no association with the blogger.) 69% of African-Americans voted for prop 8, though trends show that African-Americans are not very interested in the well beings of other minorities so that is not a real surprise. 61% of first-time voters voted No. At least this means the old way of thinking is dying out. Also, to those of you saying yes on prop 8 people would not fight if it didn't pass…Flint himself said if it was close (400,000 votes is pretty damn close) they would continue trying to press the issue. It doesn't take a genius to realize, at the rate things are going gay marriage will be legal in the United States by 2012. Do the math for yourself if you don't believe me.

I think there are a lot of people who don't even know why this was on the ballot. Californians had already passed Prop.22 when a group of judges decided to overturn the results YEARS later. Do you not realize what a dangerous legal prescient that would set??? There would be legal cause for any voter approved measure to be overturned solely by the will of the judiciary branch of local and state governments. That, to me, is of far more importance that letting homosexuals get married, especially since so many posting on this board do not realize the religious implications. There is a separation of church and state in this country; imposing the gay agenda onto churches (aka religions freely chosen by the people) would be the exact opposite of that right.

I'm quite tired of your political tirade against Proposition 8. Had it been denied in your favour, I'm sure no GLBT person would be complaining.

Thats not true though, If someone is in the hospital and you're not considered family. You are not allowed in. If they die, You are not entitled to their pension or social security benefits. I am not married to my boyfriend but He designated me as beneficiary to his pension. Social security is another issue altogether. I can see changing that law to include the ability to name your own beneficiary. But Marriage should remain as it is. Invent new laws for gays to have legal rights but that doesn't mean you can change the institution of marriage.Spousal benefits can and should be changed. I just believe that marriage is for a man and a woman. Me(female) and my boyfriend have included each other on every financial account, in each others will and living will. All that is legal issues not marriage issues. It can all be accomplished without a marriage certificate. I am not against people choosing whom they wish to live with have sex with etc. but I still believe that marriage is a man/woman thing. I am also against gay adoption. I do not believe in same sex raising a child to grow up believing that that is a normal everyday choice in life. It is not of the norm. It just isn't. We mess with mother nature enough. Even the lowliest animal on earth knows the difference. we think we can choose any lifestyle, abort any child, keep people alive forever. where is the end to it all.
