  1. 101

You CERTAINLY wouldn't be saying that if prop 8 HADN'T passed! HA!

  2. 102

I think its passing is BS, but 51% is the majority. #4, how do you determine what's "big"? Fundamentally, all of these issues are "big"…that's why it was put on the statewide ballot.

Again, don't mistake my post for support of 8…just saying that there's always going to be a losing side for any vote.

  3. kdkay says – reply to this

    103

shut-up Perez! deal with the fact that people who do not agree with you DO actually have a voice… AND that it was heard in Cali!

  4. 104

    AGREED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. 105

you are totally wrong. 51% is more than half. if obama had won with 51% votes, you'd be all for it… you fucking loser.

  6. 106

Mario, I can't imagine what you must be feeling. Being treated as though you are less than human. With everything that's going on in the world, the last thing we should be worried about is who loves who. There are so many more important issues. A person's sexuality should not be a public issue.
The only thing I can tell you is to try and look at the glass half full. Think of all the support that's out there. Twenty years ago, it never would have been this close. We're making progress. This country has come a long way. Though we still have much further to go. Look at it this way…60 years ago, gays were gassed right along side Jews in concetration camps, while we were hosing down black people here in the states. Look at us now. Keep the faith, Perez, we're almost there.

  7. 107

    Re: Wanna Milk Me?
IT'S NOT OVER UNTIL EVERYONE HAS THE SAME RIGHTS

  8. 108

When the nation voted for a African American president, it broke the race barrier. When we are rejoicing "Yes we can" and patting our backs on the historic win of Obama, we refuse to acknowledge that hate bacame law in 4 states. CA, FL, AR, AK banning same sex marriage and banning gay adoption and fostering.
Are we sending mixed signals to the world? When do we realize gay rights are basic rights and not special rights? When do we realize majority voting on minority is fundamentally wrong. We have slavery and the Civil war to remind us of that tragedy again and again.
Here again, the gay community is waiting with a begging bowl for its basic human rights.
Shame on anyone who voted banning gay marriages. Hope you feel proud of yourself for helping to write hate in the state law books. You have denied human rights for the current and future generations. You will be laughed at in the future for your bigotry.

  9. 109

Democracy is what it is, you applaud an african american voted as the President elect then you complain about Prop 8 getting canned. You have to take the good with the bad in a true democracy and not stomp your feet and cry foul when it doesn't go your way….We can agree to disagree.

  10. 110

I am a PROUD Canadian… So happy Obama won… but SO shocked at the American people that voted to write hate into their constitutions… We are all human.. and deserve to be treated as equals… what people do in their own homes is their business… any two people regardless of gender should have the equal rights…

I HAVE A DREAM… that one day my little boy.. will be able to marry another little boy.. and share in the same rights as everyone else… I have a dream…

If this was reversed and only gay people were aloud to marry.. I bet straight people would fight for equality..

  11. 111

Never give up keep fighting it is the right thing to DO!

  12. 112

If it was 51% the other way woudn't be "JUST SAYIN'" Buttplug!

  13. 113

It sucks, but thats life…Democracy works that way….

  14. 114

    I'd say I agree 100%, but obviously that's over-doing it. . .so I'll say I agree 51%!

this sucks. at least we have Pres. Obama on our side now!

  15. 115

Hell NO! It´s such a shame to be so afraid of equality.

  16. 116

I voted no and you know how latinos are when it comes to gay people sorry=(………Also I will not use google anymore I'm just using yahoo! I'm so sorry Im deeply saddened…

  17. 117

It truly astounds me how since they lost the gays are crying "bigot!" "homophobe!" "hater!" "discrimination!" etc…. it reminds me of spoiled petulant children, having a tantrum and whining and stomping when told "no" and don't get their way; they scrunch up their faces and pout "You HATE me!" "Stop being so MEAN!" It reminds me of my 5 year old when I won't buy her a toy. The majority has spoken and the majority rules. Grow up and get over it already.

  18. 118

THIS ISSUE IS FAR FROM OVER,HATE TO BREAK IT TO THE REPUBILCAN TRASH AND THE UNEDUCATED MINORITES THEY MANIPULATE WITH HATE . THE MARGIN WAS CLOSE AND THIS ISSUE IS NOT GOING AWAY SO IT WILL BE BROUGHT UP WITH MORE MONEY AND EFFORT BY DECENT PEOPLE WHO THINK GAY MARRIAGES SHOULDNT BE RIPPED APART BECAUSE OF RIGHTWING AND MINORITY HATERS.ITS REALLY THAT SIMPLE. ITS FAR FROM OVER,BECAUSE ITS NOT GOING AWAY UNITLE GAYS HAVE EQUALITY. AND THIS WILL BE CHALLANGED IN COURT AS WELL. AT LEAST THE MARGIN FOR GAYS IS ALMOST EQUAL NOW.SO THE HATEMONGERS CANT KEEP SAYING IT WAS SUCH A HUGE MAJORITY,TIMES ARE CHANGING AND THE HATERS WILL BE DRAGGED KICKING AND SCREAMING SOONER OR LATER,.

  19. 119

I suppose the next time it comes up for a vote in Cali Perez should probably get off his computer and go knock on some doors, volunteer, do a voter registration drive, something-have you learned nothing from what just happened with the Presidential race? When it comes to politics it takes time and dedicated people.

  20. 120

Re: Goodbye Sweet America!!!COLON!!! Goodby – No but I'm sure you HATERS would be saying it was too close and would be trying to over-turn it… YOU EVIL PEOPLE MAKE ME SICK! LIVE AND LET LIVE!

  21. 121

    Actually let me re-phrase that.
I don't think civil rights are the sort of thing that people should be voting on.

How come Canada and some other countries have no problems with gays but we're nearly on par with the middle east with this?

  22. 122

Re: geekfreek000 – Your a idiot. The Bible says it was Adam and Eve..not Adam and Steve. That's what is wrong with this country now, people think that just because THEY are different from " The majority", that The America government should change everything that this country was founded on, so that they are not the minority. I just don't understand how people can look at The Bible and not understand "Thou shall not lie with Mankind, as with woman kind, it is abomination." Are you going to petition God to vote on it???

  23. 123

BIANCA -YOU ARE SUCH TRASH.THATS ALL I CAN SAY

  24. 124

you just got to keep on keepin' on

  25. 125

perez, i'm on your side, but the majority has spoken and that's how voting works.

but here's my question: obama had won by 51% of the votes, you would have been thrilled. if mccain had won by 51% of the votes, would you be complaining about that, too?

sorry you didn't get what you wanted this time. crying about it won't help.

  26. 126

I absolutely think the fight should continue. Policy changes should be hard fought and the fight should go on as long as there is someone willing to shoulder the cause. Sometimes the fight takes longer than we would like, but perseverance will pay off in the long run. I fully believe that.

  27. Blake says – reply to this

    127

Would you be saying that if it was 51% the other way? i doubt it!

  28. 128

States like Florida require you to have 60% of the vote.

  29. 129

    HORRIBLE! HORRRRRRRRRRIBLE!
i cant believe because just over 50% thinks its wrong it passes. thats horrible.

  30. 130

I completely agree, Perez. As with federal constitutional amendments, 2/3 majority should be required.

  31. 131

    Re: Marianne

its not that big of a deal move on. Nobody likes a sore loser. your side of the prop should have complained asking for it to be 2/3 of the vote to be required but you didnt. Why? because you were overconfident.

  32. 132

i'm a screaming republican and true republicans believe in limited gov't. the state has no right telling someone who they can marry. it's a decision that affects only the 2 individuals involved. homophobia is the last few forms of acceptable bigotry.

  33. 133

Find yourself something shiny and new to shove up your ASS and get over it!

  34. 134

Any state that gives rights to FARM ANIMALS but not our fellow humans? I am embarrassed and disgusted to live here in California. I will do everything in my power to make sure this is overturned by the courts AGAIN. Discrimination in ANY form is wrong.

  35. 135

And it isnt right for the judges to overrule a vote that happen 4 years, but they did. But majority rules…..

  36. James says – reply to this

    136

    HYPOCRITE!

  37. 137

Perez, I completely agree. This discriminatory proposition shouldn't have even been on the ballot in the first place. It's a travesty.

  38. 138

    Get over it!!!!!!
    no joke

  39. 139

    Re: Baby B

So, I guess people will be doing all that "laughing" at Almighty Saint Save-Us-Now Obama, too, since he vocally opposes gay marriage? Also recall that the overwhelmingly largest percentage (per population) voting in favor of prop 8 are African Americans. So, what excatly will everyone be laughing at when they look back years from now? I suspect they might just be stunned that a group always claiming to be oppressed….voted en masse to oppress another group when given the chance. Twisted, innit.

  40. 140

Funny how when it's not the outcome you want, you stomp your feet.
Oh well- win some / lose some

  41. 141

    Yes to Prop 8!!!!!

  42. 142

50% + 1 is all that's ever been needed in any vote. Just because your gay dog doesn't have a chance to get married now doesn't mean it should change just for you.
Now go back to having your sick dreams about men who wouldn't give you the time of day and leave your personal political BS out of a Hollywood "blog"

  43. 143

    AGREED!

  44. 144

err how is it right-wing minority haters that get blamed for H8 passing? California is an extremely DEMOCRAT state.
I think it's (sadly!!) homophobes in all parties and many of them are educated and not hicks.

  45. 145

NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!!!! It's that simple folks!!

    NTWR=NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION

Every GAY, LESBIAN, BISEXUAL TRANSGENDERED person needs to FILE LATE on their TAXES–or REFUSE TO PAY ALTOGETHER…and it must be done ALL TOGETHER.

The ONLY way this country will ever give the LGBT community their EQUAL RIGHTS is when they realize that we are a FINANCIALLY POWERFUL MINORITY.

So, let the OTHER discriminated minorities like BLACKS and LATINOS vote with their religion, which was formerly used AGAINST them…and we will VOTE with our WALLETS and let the programs which benefit them become ELIMINATED.

    NTWR folks

NTWR—start a movement…start a website…write an entirely NEW DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE and SECEDE our MONEY from this unequal state of the union.

NTWR…the WALLET, the SHRINKING WALLET…and elimination of paying taxes without representation will give the LGBT communitey their true liberty.

This is a FEDERAL Issue…and the copout of allowing states to decide MUST STOP PERMANENTLY…and we can do it by VETOING our participation in this UNJUST, UNEQUAL SYSTEM…

    NTWR!!! PASS IT ON

  46. 146

vil rights groups moved quickly today to challenge Proposition 8, asking the California Supreme Court to strike down the latest attempt to ban same-sex marriage across the state.

While refusing to concede that the ballot measure has passed, gay marriage supporters nevertheless filed a petition with the state's high court in the event the current vote holds and Proposition 8 amends the California constitution to once again outlaw marriage for gay and lesbian couples.

Backers of the measure claimed victory Tuesday night with the initiative leading by a 52 to 48 percent margin.

The legal challenge maintains that Proposition 8 is invalid and takes away a "fundamental right” from "just one group —

lesbian and gay Californians.” The petition argues that the state constitution cannot be amended if it violates other constitutional rights.

The state Supreme Court this spring struck down California's previous laws banning gay marriage, finding that they violated the state constitution. That 4-3 ruling set in motion the political firestorm over Proposition 8, which was designed to trump the Supreme Court's decision.

  47. 147

Re: skunkymunky2005 – EXACTLY! I'm soo glad somebody finally pointed this out on this page!!! Suck it up Perez!

  48. 148

i agree that the proposition is really wrong…but it is the majority and if 51% would have voted no it would have gone the other way…people had the right to vote anyway they wanted no matter how much we would like this proposition to go away the vote is in

  49. 149

that is such{BULLSH!T}i can't believe those a$$wholes.homophobic people have no place in this world.

  50. 150

Re: gorgeous_chik7Re: gorgeous_chik7 domestic partnership is NOT the same. you're ridiculous.

  51. 151

If it was in your favor would you feel the same? Why shouldn't they? 51% which is more then 49% wanted 8 why should the majority of votes not matter? Because you disagree?

  52. 152

    Re: knowitall

The only thing I hate is your needless use of allcaps.

  53. 153

WHY do Americans even leave these types of human rights issues for a general vote? We did not leave it up to the Canadian electorate to make the decision for us and look where we are. If the rights of African Americans were left up to the general population their progress would have been slowed by decades. Gay rights need to be put in place because its the right thing to do not because they may or may not be popular.

  54. 154

If it had gone your way with 50.01% you would have been dancing in the street! Whether or not you agree with the decision, the majority has spoken. Maybe you need to initiate a campaign to change the state constitution to require a 2/3's vote to make amendments…

    Don't be a sore loser…

  55. 155

Im glad to see theres more people that see the kind of bullshit perez is trying to say. This isnt even that big of a deal. its just a fantasy they have. You cant always get what you want but you get what you need. Im glad that the celebrity support didn't sway us Californians too much. Apparantley the majority of America is against this as numerous states voted on Anti-gay laws and they passed so stop putting down California saying were pricks. I never thought I'd say this but, listen to John McCain. He took losing like a man. You should all be behind what America chose and realize we dont want you to marry.

  56. 156

Re: CrazyBeautiful84 – 50 - What the fuck do YOU know about MLK you homophobic, misogynistic, ignorant h8ter? He isn't a rapper…

  57. 157

Re: PunkRawkPrincess – NO, i say that because his whining isn't helping ANYTHING………..
and like someone before said, if it was the other way around, i am sure he wouldn't be bitching about 51%……….
GET OVER IT. YA LOST. better luck next time.

  58. 158

Judges shouldn't be making law, their job is to interpret the law — that is why this didn't pass.

  59. 159

Re: knowitall – You should probably send back your computer to the store you bought it from…on most keyboards, you're able to turn off caps lock.

  60. 160

    Re: vagvagwhatvag – hahahahaha
    tell me about it!

  61. 161

  62. 162

    agree

  63. 163

NO JUDGE should be able to create law to push their own agenda. Just looking at the small margin on this measure leads me to believe that if the left had put a measure on the ballot to include the verbiage "marriage" to same-sex civil unions, it would have passed. However, since a judge decided to make his own rules, THE PEOPLE REACTED, and this is what you get. Just sayin'

  64. 164

Maybe the presidency should have to win by 2/3 votes as well? Hmmm?

  65. 165

Shut the fuck up. The Jonas Brothers do not want you nor does any self respecting gay. So Marriage shouldn't even be a concern for you.

  66. 166

Re: Macman – The bible was a nice fictional story written back in the day. Find something intelligent to back up your point.

  67. 167

    AGREED
    2/3rds!

  68. 168

The uncounted ballots are not even going to matter, it failed so get over it. We don't need the gays getting married anyways.

  69. 169

Re: knowitall – 118 - Don't blame this on the Republicans my friend. I happen to BE Republican, and I voted NO on 8.

  70. 170

    WORD.

  71. 171

I agree. And just because there are some rather delusional people saying "Get over it thats it" doesnt mean a damn thing. We will fight this until we win. Even though that it is the majority vote thus far supporting H8te, I believe there should be at least a 2/3rds majority of voters just as it is in the house and senate to pass bills its very paradoxical. Keep your head up perez it is only a matter of time before there will be equality for all!

  72. 172

UH! For all of you people that don't understand math…51% is a majority. That's why he vote…Come on…no matter how much you whine, it is not gonna happen. GET OVER IT OR GET STRAIGHT!!!

  73. 173

    Re: Smarty Pants

    You're misstating.
Passing prop 8 is the societal change because gay marriage is/was legal.

  74. 174

    neither do gays

  75. 175

    AMEN!

  76. 176

perez, although i too am sad that prop 8 passed, the majority voted for it. thats how it should be, and if it was a prop that you wanted that passed by 51%, then you would want it to stand, right?

it may suck, but its the majority. sorry.

  77. 177

So annoying!! It's amazing that a state that could vote so overwhelmingly for change passed such an ignorant proposition on the very same day. One step forward and two steps back!

  78. 178

so true! this is so so sad :(

  79. 179

All of you assholes who are saying for Perez to get over it and so on and so forth, lend me your imaginations (if you have any) for just one moment. Imagine that gays founded our country and our Constitution said it was illegal for straights to marry. How would you feel then? You all seem to be forgetting a very important line in a very important document…"all men are created EQUAL". There's a reason it says that. No one should have any less rights than anyone else, and of course gays should be allowed to marry and adopt children. My wedding was the best day of my life, and I wholeheartedly wish Perez will one day experience his own.

On the other hand, Perez, I agree that you would be rejoicing if Prop 8 had passed with 51%. While I agree that it's unfair that something that important should fall to such a small margin, but it happened. I live all the way across the country, but I followed Prop 8 with great interest and wished that my friends and I were in CA to vote. We would've voted against it vehemently. Keep fighting, Perez. You'll get your chance one day.

Also, to the person that said Obama opposes gay marriage, good job leaving out the part where he also said he supports civil unions. You sound like a Republicant, taking only the parts of quotes that support your argument and not showing the entire story. Good job. I am so glad McCain lost, since Mexico did not want all of US immigrating there.

    GOBAMA!!!!!

  80. 180

I don't know seems like people called Christians hate filled and the stuff I've seen about Christians by you enlightened people seems kind of I DON'T KNOW hate filled. Its one word on a piece of paper ypu have domestic partnership. Stop whining.

  81. 181

i just really can't get over all the closed mindedness in the world. and i'm so sick of people saying that 'its not in the bible' and bringing god up. first of all, the only reason homosexuality isn't in the bible is because people back then only had sex to procreate - and 2 men or 2 women together can not procreate. it wasnt because they were 'evil' or anything like that. and this is america. there's supposed to be a separation of church and state, but obviously there is not. also in america we have something called 'equal rights' but by denying gays the fundamental right to get married is ridiculous. how is a gay couple expressing their love hurting you in any way? oh wait, its not! i thought the country was better than this.

  82. 182

Re: knowitall – Me? Really? I'm so excited some one read my post.

I'm totally gonna tell all minorities that most people remember segregation as JUST seperate water fountains and restrooms..’cause that what perez and most of these posters think. So they should just forget about the jailing, lynchings, KKK burning down their homes, their kids being hosed trying to protest, and all that "you can work here, but u have to sweep the floor" stuff.

It's two girls buying a freakin' ring and eatin' cake. NOthing more. Ask for more privelages for civil unions. People don't wanna go changing definitions of words all willy nilly. they didn't have to change the definition of human to treat minorities freakin' fair.

Perez, u can't get mad because people have common sense. Black white or whatever.

  83. 183

Love you Perez, but I seriously doubt you'd be saying this if it went the other way.

  84. 184

Perez, I love you…But i want to remind you that you are celebrity gossip blogger…not a political analyst or a news reporter…why don't you get back to doing what you do best…gossiping about celebrities! I can go to foxnews and cnn for election news…i am counting on you for celebrity gossip. please get back to that…

  85. 185

Re: ALL4ONE – and I am sure you are going to be the one to start this right? I doubt it. You are all talk, you want to get married move to canada.

  86. 186

Yes I agree 52% is unfair,i I should not have to deal with Obama

  87. 187

    Re: amanda1600

Um, yeah, go be a bitch somewhere else. Don't diss gays on a website written by a gay man. This goes for all of you. Show some respect for people different than you, or get the hell out. This is why I'm so glad my religion actually PRACTICES tolerance, unlike Christianity, which simply preaches it while practicing bigotry and hate.

  88. 188

sorry bud, but the MAJORITY rules. im not saying im for it or against it, but thats how it works in america.

  89. 189

why not Perez? You want to change the way we decide things in this country just because you dont get your way? I'm not happy that Obama won but I have to ACCEPT it just like you do about Prop 8!

  90. 190

Re: The World is Now a Scary Place

HAHA What are you talking about, can you R E A D?
You really know how to debate and have a discussion with name calling…so mature ;-)

Oh and show me once where MLK was talking about GAYS, lol….yah that's what I thought, he wasn't and wouldn't E V E R

I'm sorry you get all hot and bothered..PROP 8 YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  91. 191

The fact remains, we live in a society where majority rules: Hence democracy. Those that claim that it should have taken MORE than 51% to amend the constitution forget: This vote came up 8 years ago. At that time, marriage (A religiously based union defined as between man and a woman) was upheld as being between a man and a woman. What you're not seeing is that the Supreme Court completely overturned that vote early this year, 2008. The people had spoken, and a few people sitting in the Court system overturned the voice of the people.

Is it unfair? Yes. But no more unfair then when more than half of the California community's opinion was overthrown by a few people with robes and gavels.

  92. 192

Re: The World is Now a Scary Place – I agree with you - THIS IS NOT a Republican thing. My conservative friends would never have voted Yes on 8. This is a cultural and bigoted issue.

  93. 193

As far as adding "hate" to the California Constitution, this just isn't so. It's people voicing their opinion that "Marriage" (again, a religiously based union) should stay defined as a religiously based union between a man and a woman, and not be changed. Much of the gay community may not hate the religious right, but they certainly hate the religious right's role in politics. And yet, they seek equality in a union that is based on said religion. Seems a little backwards to me.

Either way, the battle may have been lost, but the war will be won. As young voters see how their turnout this year helped win the election for Obama, they will in the future see how their turnout can change things such as this.

Undoubtedly there will be a feud between those in support of gay marriage, and those opposed. And undoubtedly there will be words thrown, wrongly, from both sides. Hurtful words that seemingly can't be taken back.

But in another 4 years, or 8 at the most, this will re-appear on the ballots, and needless to say, Gay marriage will be made legal, and it will be made legal by a vote. Not a few Supreme Court folks who decided to overturn millions of votes in the state… The GREAT state of California.

  94. 194

    Re: geekfreek000
This isn't the constitution of the US. IT is the Constitution of California which was created by the people of California. The people of California have chosen the parameters for changing their laws. They agreed that 51% was enough. The people have decided that the institution of marriage is unique.
I know it is hard to consider other people's opinions. it would require a lot of magnanimity to give other people the benefit of the doubt that you would like for yourself.
I voted in favor of Prop 8. I do not "hate" gays. I do believe that they are entitled to equal partner protections under the law. Those protections are not being affected at all.
Why isn't anyone talking about all of those votes against Prop 8 as "hate" votes against people who think marriage is a sacred institution?
Doesn't the door swing both ways?
Is it o.k. to HATE people who think differently than yourself?
Is it o.k. to be vicious about conservative values?
Is it o.k. to be intolerant of differing opinions?
Is it helpful to be so dismissive of a point of view?
    All or nothing.

  95. 195

Re: ppphhhttt – What? Try English dear.

  96. 196

Perez, keep the crying to yourself. Majority rules. I personally am sick of you pushing your one sided views on everyone. Chill out.

  97. 197

Re: JuliaMichele – It is not hurting us now.

  98. 198

unfortunatly that is the majority :(

  99. 199

Re: Macman – So as someone who knows much about the Bible, you would also know that half of the stuff in there is ignored by most Christians today. Don't believe me? It's true. The Vatican has renounced a number of "outdated" views and ignores many of the commands made in the Bible. It's true! But honestly, this is not a religious debate at this point.
You said that American shouldn't change what it was built upon. Well, that's the truth. The constitution says that Americans are to be treated without discrimination! THAT'S what America was founded on. And yet this vote CHANGED the constitution to create discrimination…you've got it completely backwards my friend! Completely!
Should we not forget that when the U.S. was founded, slavery was still legal, and that it was widely believed that good white Christian men were meant to control those of other races??
I'm not an idiot. America was founded on the idea that all Americans should be allowed to live "THE AMERICAN DREAM." That's ALL Americans. And again, I'll say, for a government constitution to be amended, it should require the support of MORE than just a simple majority as nearly EVERY OTHER constitution in the business, schools, organizations, etc. is protected by needing the support of 60-65% of voters to be changed.
So please, don't treat me like "an idiot" or that I'm ignorant or uninformed. Don't try to brainwash me into believing the falsehoods that you've claimed.

  100. 200

Re: ppphhhttt – Majority rules, a judge should not have been allowed to make it legal without the vote in the first place but they did!
