So, we can elect a president with 51% of the vote, but it's not okay to pass a constitutional amendment? *rolling eyes*
IMO Gay marriage has no place in California's constitution, sorry to piss you all off, but a marriage is between a man and a woman. I believe that gay couples SHOULD have the same benefits afforded to them that married men and women have because they do not CHOSE to be gay, BUT, that is a civil union, not a marriage. California got this one right, sorry guys! But stay tuned, you never know what that knucklehead Obama is going to do, he may make a change to the nation's constitution and this will all be moot!!!!!

If it was a 51% victory for the No side, you'd be dancing in the streets. Stop being a hypocrite.

  3. 403

If it was a 51% victory for the No side you'd be dancing in the streets. Stop being such a hypocrite

  4. 404

Thats kind of like saying no president should be elected with just 52% of the vote isn't it?

  5. 405

it passed. i bet you wouldnt say the same shit about other issues, either.

  6. 406

If the shoe were on the other foot Perez…do you think the otherside would have made such a stink like this??

People voted…get over it. In my district Obama lost by 2 percent and no one is fighting that.

    THIS IS WHY WE VOTE.

  7. 407

Then change the law! That's the great thing about America! You don't have to have a judge make up some reason to enforce your MINORITY opinion on others. You can try to change the law LEGALLY. Also…get over it. People for the most part are not OK with gays. You knew that when you went gay.

  8. 408

To all you H8ters out there…

I haven't heard anyone who supported Prop 8 give a good reason for it without bringing up the bible, a book full of antiquated notions that no longer apply. Maybe you should actually read it sometime and find out what else you should be doing. What time shall I come over for the ritual burning of the fatted calf at your house this Sunday?

You say majority rules? Well, I say there is also supposed to be a separation of church and state in this country. So, it's not so much 'welcome to democracy' as it is 'Welcome to facism!' You know who else hated gay marriage…? That's right, Zeig Heil, my friends!

And don't drag Obama into this…he told us to vote no…

  9. 409

Barack only won with 51-52% of the vote…should we unelect him? It's still a vote and this is still a democracy.

  10. 410

In the eyes of the law anyone who is in love should have the right to get married. We are supposed to separate church and state. Now if a gay couple wants to get married in a church, the church can deny it fine. But if they want to go to city hall and get married then they should ever right to do so. I'm not bashing anyone's religious beliefs all I'm saying is that in the eyes of the government this should not be a religious matter at all.

  11. 411

this totally sucks and I can't believe it but if a president can win with 51% votes, I guess the same applies! This does suck though!

  12. 412

I think it's ridiculous that people in California are that concerned about who someone else chooses to marry. Get over it. But, I also think you are being a hypocrite. If it had gone the other way and 51% had voted against it, you would be fine with that.

  13. 413

Oh well in that case we should just redo the election. No state should be able to give its electoral college votes away to one candidate with only 51% of the vote. Right? Isn't that your flawed logic Perez? Get over it. It didn't pass. Things don't always go your way. That's the fucking rules.

    MAJORITY RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. 414

Remember that when Obama wants to take away our right to bear arms and the freedom of speech with the "Fairness Doctrine".

  15. 415

Marriage is between a Man and Woman, read the bible and get over it. Why do homosexuals assume that LAW has to do what you want? Its obvious that the majority of America will never approve of Same Sex Marriage, why you ask? Marriage is between a man and woman, geez I am so sick of you homos trying to make America do what you want, be happy that you can be openly gay and not worried being killed for breaking the law as most countries ban homosexuality. You don't realize you have it made, so shut you fucking whinning asses.

  16. 416

hey perez, how did the protest in santa monica go i couldnt go cuz of school!!?!?!?!

  17. 417

Perez, if you won't accept 51%, then I don't accept that obama got 52% of the Popular Votes, while McCain got 47%! Geez! That is a total Double Standard.

  18. 418

I completely agree! I don't understand why this was only voted for in California if it affects the constitution?? I am so grossed out by Prop 8. Ellen is right, and in a few years or decades gays being not allowed to marry will be just like when whites and blacks couldnt marry, and women and blacks couldn't vote. Such disgusting discrimination should not be legal!

  19. 419

I think they fudged the numbers! And you're right, 51% (or 53% as they're now reporting) is still WAY TOO CLOSE to change the constitution.

    EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL !!!!!!

Perez, come live in Massachusetts - we love everyone!

  20. 420

Well… Obama never made any qualms about letting the states choose on the issue of gay marriage. California chose!

  21. 421

Shut up, if it was the other way around you wouldn't have ever opened your mouth. And it was never "made," it has always been that way.

  22. 422

And if prop 8 failed with 51% would that also be an injustice to the supporters?

  23. 423

Re: Whathefuck – no, because you wouldn't be taking away people's civil rights

  24. 424

Re: ladycat – first of all the majority doesn't always win as we saw in 2000. secondly this country does however try to uphold a separation of church and state. so besides you own religious beliefs why shouldn't they be allowed to be married? with half of people who get married getting divorced do you really see gay people as the ones threatening the sanctity of it? consider other people, do their getting married really affect you? then why shouldn't they be allowed to be married. people are entitled to their own views but is it fair to inflict them on others and cause others suffering.

    Re: greygoose
    A. Obama won the overall election, so fighting over one district would be retarded.
    B. This is a RIGHTS issue — Separate but equal, v. 2.008

  26. 426

Um - SURE THEY CAN! It's called a majority vote. It might stink for the person whose rights are being infringed, but it's not illegal or unjust. Think of the alternative: requiring unanimity and never getting any legislation passed.

  27. 427

oh well "America has spoken" thank God! Gay is wrong.

    Re: Cotton

    ::Gay is wrong:::

Just as being black is wrong?

And frankly, even if you DONT believe that people are born gay (btw, weren't you born straight?) why should someone be discriminated against, put down, insulted, or penalised because of who they LOVE? Shouldn't love be all that matters?
