Gays and lesbians are being treated as second class citizens in the state of California, which this week passed a Proposition filled with H8te that denies loving, committed partners the rights, privileges and protections that come with full marriage equality under the law.

In reaction, thousands and thousands of concerned freedom fighters gathered in West Hollywood on Wednesday to continue the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King.

The fight for equality for ALL is a civil rights issue.

Separate but not equal does not work.

Fight the H8te!

Gather and walk right up to Canada! Anytime, not just for Pride, but for equal marriage rights.

  2. 102

It's the PRINCIPLE of what WLK stood for you dumbfucks. Stop discrimination and hatred!

  3. 103

I hate it when people say "the people have spoken" blah blah. They spoke to DISCRIMINATE. It is still NOT right, despite a slight majority think it's OKAY. It's different from the presidential election and saying "deal with it" because that does not discriminate against a group of people. Gay marriage hurts NO ONE. It wasn't too long ago that interracial couples weren't allowed to marry. The majority isn't always RIGHT.

  4. 104

Maybe you guys need to vote Rupaul in 2012…You guys lost…keep protesting it wont change anything because it was done the same way Obama's victory was done…people voting.

The public has spoken…if your not happy about then start heading North to Canada.

  5. 105

Re: Nikkole – Hey so if it's equality, then I guess you would be okay with a civil union, no? HEY THAT"S TO ALL OF YOU. You ALL say that civil unions are just fine. You say that marriage belongs to church and not state. COOL, so lets just get rid of marriage altogether! You all can get civil unions too! The state will recongnize everyone as having civil unions. You want marriage? Fine, but no liscence unless your church wants to type you up one. And the LGBT can go found a church that will do the same. Civil unions for all!!! Marriage for NO ONE BY STATE!!! Sounds just FREAKIN AWESOME, doesn't it you twisted jerks???

I'm so happy that I live in San Francisco and we will be the first to challange all those Props in California, Florida, and Arkansas. Our Mayor has given us the blessing and we have MILLIONS of people on our side. I was at the protest last night on the steps of city hall. I'm doing this for my RIGHTS, Harvey Milk, and Del Martin. I'm doing this because there needs to be a Separation between Church and State. I'm doing this because as a Teacher I have students who have same sex parents who deserve the completion of their families. I'm doing this because Marriage is not Sacred especially in a time where divorce is always the option and if anyone knows commitment it's Gay people. We work it out. We fight. Yes we will.

  7. 107

Sigh Perez…when will you understand that you guys lost when it came to prop 8.

Again - if you would drop the whole word "marriage" and press for equal LEGAL rights with unions, you wouldn't have so much opposition.

Those who believe in the Bible will always see marriage as between a man and a woman….and that's that.

  8. 108

    Re: Dagnym

Why SHOULDN'T the majority be able to vote on a minority issue if it affect EVERYONE????????

I'm not in CA, but watched the race closely. I don't care what the gay community does, but supported Prop 8 for the simple fact that if gay marriage passes, then what next? Where does it end? Can people marry their relatives next? This madness has got to stop SOMEWHERE. Marriage is between a man and a woman.

I would fully support domestic/civil partnerships for gays, but never marriage.

  9. 109

Re: ashbert13 – I have to "move along and accept the decision" that Obama will be our next president even though I didn't vote for him. Why should it be any different? Like I said before, wait a few years, try to pass it again. CA offers GLBTs more rights as far as having civil unions than the majority of the states in this country who offer NOTHING along those lines. Why can't you all just accept that this is the way it is right now, move on and try again later.

  10. 110

Re: thewayyoupurr – Well, republicans can say that they were discriminated against because they lost the battle for the white house. So, you all need to get off your high horses and yes, you do need to DEAL WITH IT!

  11. 111

How can a law that is fair- cival unions/marriage for gay persons, passed by the highest court, only exist for a short while? (surely the original law in that level of court can't be undermined that easily?)
Be then overturned by largely "a hetro's that hate gays vote"? Has this vote/prop.8/ been bought, created, by that $74 million the religious nutjobs were able to raise?
How can a law be reversed so quickly? it's wrong.
I'm angry that gay people have to 'be allowed' to have what is automatic to others,
that IS discriminatory in the most obvious way!
We shouldn't discriminate on the colour of people's sexuality .

  12. 112

Re: Capedoll1183 – Are you kidding me? We live in a country where the people have a voice…THEY HAVE SPOKEN…they don't want gay marriage legalized. If you want something besides democracy maybe you should consider going elsewhere.

  13. 113

    Re: crashr10 – I didn't know sexuality had colour (it's color, BTW)?

  14. 114

    RE: BlancheD
I know what prop 8 was about. And I don't give 2 shits if I offeneded you. I think it is disgusting for Perez to compare it to MLK's speech. Gays have NEVER been persecuted the way black people were. I don't recall gay people being sold into slavery or denied the right to vote or a seat on a bus. Or had crosses burning in the front yard or hung from trees etc.. To even suggest that is vile to me. I could care less if gays or lesbians have the right to get married, if they start rounding them up and selling them into slavery or treating them as badly as african americans were treated then I will happily stand up for them. Marriage after all is really only a piece of fuckin paper and a few tax breaks.

  15. 115

I was there with my dads and sister! It was AMAZING! The majority does NOT vote to take civil rights away from a minority.

  16. 116

"Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve" has got to be the most rediculous fucking statement ever uttered! I am a straight married woman that has been a staunch supporter of Gay and Lesbian rights. Who the fuck are we to be telling them no they can't get married?? This Prop should have never been of the ballot to begin with. it's none of our business!

I take my 2 year old son to Gay Pride functions to teach him tolerance, when he grows up and if he ever wants to tell me he is a gay man, he will know that I would be so supportive of him and he wouldn't be scared to come out like alot of kids do, so fearful that their parents would disown them.

Being Gay a sin?? Who says?? The bible, God said?? I don't think so, I really doubt the Sacred Heart would turn his back on a gay individual. Same sex couples have the same belief in that marriage is a sacred thing to them. There are same sex couples out there that have been together for 30-40 years and still goin' strong. we seriously can't say that about alot of straight marriages.

I can only pray that this prop is overturned!

    Love ya P-Nasty!

  17. 117

    I WAS AT THE PROTEST!!!!
    NO ON 8!
    PROTECT CIVIL RIGHTS!!!

Remember when a black person couldn't marry a white person? Do you think there is ANYTHING right about that?
    THIS IS THE SAME THING
And if you can't understand that, you must be uneducated.

WE ARE ALL EQUAL AND DESERVE TO MARRY WHO WE LOVE AND WE DESERVE EQUAL RIGHTS.

  18. 118

Black is something you are born with being gay is something you choose. Dr. Matin Luther King was a Christian man and would not be for your cause so stop using his name to some how justify your actions.

  19. 119

Stop calling women whores, bitches, sluts, cunts or pussies and stop referring to Lauren Conrad as 'beef curtains, Mario!!! You cannot talk about Martin Luther King and whine about gays and lesbians not being allowed to marry and yet being a misogynous asshole who bullies girls and women on his gossip page for no reason! So, why don't you practice what you preach?
    FIGHT THE H8!!!

  20. 120

The people spoke. Why can't you just accept that you lost? If the tables were turned, and the people had voted to permit gay marriage, you would be speaking out in support of that and saying that their vote should be upheld. This is a democracy, not a free for all.

  21. 121

Re: bananadrama – You are so right. I wish more people would call Perez out for the women-hating pig that he is.

  22. 122

Re: Cubican – Umm..as a matter of fact the bible does say it is an unnatural act and it IS a sin, multiple times throughout various books. Nothing wrong with teaching tolerance but there is something wrong with taking a 2 year old to gay pride functions-WTF??? Marriage is between a man and a woman. The people have spoken-it's a democracy. Let it be.

  23. 123

Perez you can accept that you are gay, although you are not born to be gay, its your 100% choice to be so soft like cuttlefish, just accept the reality, marriage is only between a man and a woman.. You are just twisting stories and history just like you twist your own mind…gays are just people who never want to accept real reality..they thought being gay is the reality..

  24. 124

its not about hate its about religious beliefs and morals..

  25. 125

Re: crashr10 – Because Judges are there to enforce law NOT make it.

  26. 126

Holy shit am I every happy I am canadienne with the type of idiots you have on this message board. How can so many people be so closed minded. Have you never heard of live and let live. As you that pathetic that you think you have the right to decide who a person as the right to marry. If a man wants to marry a man what the hell does that change in your life. Hell it leaves more women for the straight men. I don't care who marry's who, besides if marriage was so damn sacred why the hell are there so many people cheating, lying, abusing and divorcing. Just because you are straight that doesn't mean you are more worthy to marry. Grow up and get your own life and stop judging everyone else.

  27. 127

    Re: Capedoll1183
Slavery and being gay and being BORN black or whatever colour one may be are two totally different things. You are BORN a skin colour, but that is all it is, skin colour. Slavery is like torture, of course its wrong. Not letting gays marry, boohoo, does that physically hurt anybody like slavery did, no it didn't. you cannot even compare the two, do not even try. God didn't CREATE gay people, people are just finding it more acceptable unfortunately and that is just how its going. More and more people are coming out as gay because its becoming waaaaaaay too acceptable and people think its ok and not morally wrong. I love it when you find gay or lesbian people who havent even kissed a girl or a boy and think they're nasty or have these one sided views of men and women and they claim thats why they're gay… thats like sayiing i hate chocolate when i haven't even tried it before. you can never compare what black people went through to this stupid marriage crap, ever.

  28. 128

That is so stupid, choose to be gay. Just like you choose to be stupid.

Oh well Canada will welcomes all the gay people. Makes our country an even better place to live. No judging of other people.

  29. 129

Re: Capedoll1183 – Nobody is saying that that is the way it SHOULD be. What I am saying is that the people have spoken and for now you have to live with it. By all means do what you can to have this issue be voted on again, it's not like the Republican party is giving up now, like "oh well guess we can't ever be president again", and they certainly are not staging protests, they are back to the drawling board and are forming new strategies on how to win the election in 2012. Stop looking back and focus on the future. That is what I was trying to express.

  30. 130

USe the term Homophobe correctly. It means because SCARED of gays. Just because you don't think being gay is right doesn't mean you are scared of them

  31. 131

do not understand in the United States is the example for all gays in the world fighting for the rights

I do not want to be a SECOND CLASS CITIZEN!

  32. 132

    Re: laurenbrooke

Listen up, STUPID BITCH….I am gay and black and I can tell you for a fact–NEITHER IS A CHOICE…so if gay is a choice, then obviously straight would be a choice too, right idiot?? So you were born gay and made the choice to become straight? GROW UP AND GET EDUCATED!!!!!!!!!!

  33. 133

Re: ThatDudeYouKnow – ::Am I the only one genuinely confused by this? There was a proposition, people voted. It didn't pass, deal with it. ::

You're right. Women should have just accepted second class citizenship and not fought the right to vote. Blacks shouldn't have fought for voting rights and equality under the law. The people have spoken, they never vote improperly or vote with hate in their minds, and we should just let it all go and get over it.

  34. 134

Re: rascal – ::The gay people plus everyone else they may not be living the right way is the reason the world is in such bad shape. God is your father and he loves everyone. There are so many people that are lost.::

God never said anything about homosexuality, and never did Jesus. The people who did also believed the earth was flat, and the Bible also says shrimp and lobsters are abominations and I don't see you not eating it. Jesus preached loving thy neighbor and doing onto others as they would do onto you. Stop using God and religion to try to justify your hate and just admit you are a bigot. Tons of religious people believe in equality and support gays and more churches are opening up every day that allow gays into their congregations. Religion has nothing to do with hate or gay marriage, and there's a separation of CHURCH AND STATE written into our constitution.

  35. 135

::Its wrong to compare this to the civil rights movement and MLK he never mentioned anything about gays. PLUS gays are not rainbow colored! They are not salves this is really insulting to compare this issue to the civil rights movement! Gay marriage was never allowed in the first place its something very new and you can force people to give up their right to vote to keep marriage between a man and a women.::

Actually, the civil rights movement is incredibly relevant as it was a fight for a minority group to get equal rights in our society, which MLK believed in and fought for. Gays come in every color, shape, and size. As for gay marriage 'never allowed in the first place', neither was a black person's right to vote or to utilize the same institutions as whites. That didn't mean it wasn't worth fighting for and standing up against. By the way, it is allowed in a lot of places.

  36. 136

::i don't hate gay people. i don't even have a problem with them being together..I just don't think they need to be married.::

Stop being a hypocrite. If you didn't have a problem with them, then you wouldn't see a need to deprive them of the same rights everyone else (even SERIAL KILLERS) have in our society. That's like saying I don't have a problem with blacks, but they shouldn't drink from the same water fountain. Admit you're a bigot and stop making up lame excuses for yourself.

  37. 137

I saw someone getting brutally attacked by the police at this rally??? Why haven't you put up anything about that yet? There was a guy on the ground, at least 4 police holding him down while a fifth beat him or her sense-less with a baton. Talk about brutality. IT was disgusting and disturbing to watch.

  38. Madey says – reply to this

    138

Banning gay marriage is not about hate or civil rights. It is about keeping something so sacred and beautiful, becoming an oxymoron. Marriage requires 2 sexes to constitute a sexual whole. Be gay, be in a gay relationship, whatever…..but keep marriage out of it.

  39. 139

    Re: CuddlyCarla

Funny how gay people have to hang onto the coattails of what blacks fought for. It was inhumane how black people were treated back in the day I cant say the same for gay people in this current day…when was the last time you saw gay people being chased by dogs and sprayed with fire hoses.

I understand that the gay community is upset but it was voted on and passed…not much more you can ask for from that aspect. I'm sure if it was rejected you guys would be saying the same thing to those who voted for it…who would probably be protesting as well.

All I'm saying is doing compare yourself to a black person who was born that way and had to grow up and face that fight from day 1, where as gay people made their choice to be gay.

  40. 140

Re: Kateedid – maybe if you wouldn't paid attention, it was because someone broke through the police line and started jumping and dancing on a car. Then someone else tried to get through to join him, and he got his ass beat. The cops should've just stood there and let them destroy a police car? Then the others who were marching would've gotten out of hand, too. Obviously most of the people there thought he deserved to get his ass beat because no one tried to defend him against the cops. So, get your shit straight before you start flapping your jaw!

  41. 141

    second class citizens????? phuq offf!!!

  42. 142

Now, if all you fags can put the dick down for a minute, a little lesson. This is America. No one is saying you have to stop taking it up the ass. If you are a woman and want to lick another chick's puss, go right ahead. Now, I don't have to, or want to, know about it. Second, since this is America, we have a little thing called "majority rule". And, the MAJORITY have ruled, TWICE. Just how many times do the PEOPLE of the state of California have to tell you fags they don't want you???

  43. 143

perez, dont forget about Florida. Amendment 2 just was passed over here, and I dont hear you speaking out about that..
there is gay inequality over here too !

  44. 144

I am a Justice of the Peace who lives in Massachusetts. I marry same-sex-couples all the time here and I am happy to do so. And guess what people, since it has become legal for same-sex-couples to get married here, THE SKY DID NOT FALL DOWN AND MASSACHUSETTS DID NOT COME TO AN END! Don't let what happened in California get you down. Someday, these people will see the light. I encourage anyone in California who wants to get legally married to come to Massachusetts for a weekend. Set an example that you will not be brought down. Visit mjpa.org to find a Massachusetts Justice of the Peace and fight back! The more people go to another state to make their marriage legal, the more revenue California will lose. At some point this will make them overturn this horrible Proposition 8.

  45. 145

    Were no strangers to love

I just wanna tell you how Im feeling
    Gotta make you understand

  46. 146

There was a proposition, people voted. 52% majority do not support it–yes that's ENOUGH TO PASS IT!!! marriage is by definition between MAN & WOMAN!!! get married in canada & come home– GET OVER IT!!

  47. 147

    Re: nicaface – Agreed.

  48. 148

Martin Luther stood for black rights, you should not put him in the mix with the gay issue. Being a christian we would never know where he stood on this. Sorry but marriage is a gift from God…one man one woman. It sucks but I really think its lame to call this a HATE issue…

  49. 149

get over it…respect the people's choice…they have spoken!!! move on!

  50. 150

You're right. Gays are second class citizens. They can't vote, buy homes, serve in the military, pay taxes, hold down jobs, date, fuck who they want, or do anything us first class straights can. Gays still have the right of marriage, fucktard. They just can't marry the SAME sex. They CAN get married, though, so they DO have the right. I don't get you.

  51. 151

Re: NOTAHATER – That's the most stupid thing I ever heard, yeah go to Canada, marry a person of your same sex, come back home and let's see if the canadian marriage license works for anything. Idiot.

The majority cannot decide on the minority, if that's the case then blacks would be slaves even to this day, kind of funny that Ngers voted against it when they were through the same thing, oh well, they're a bunch of ignorant monkeys anyway.

  52. 152

I'm a little bit surprised that so many people really think that gays and lesbian had the choice to be what they be. Fact is that the decision if you will be a gay or not falls allready during the pregnancy. (academically proved). This people are not pervert, only different. So I don't understand the problem.

  53. 153

Re: COCACOLA – you mean his black and white people? hes fucking half you fucking dipshit so fuck you you racist pig!

  54. 154

Re: PIGezHIVton – #103 wow! could you imagine the high fashion and bitchiness? yikes!!

  55. 155

I hate that CA voted yes on Prop 8. Civil rights is not about black & white only. The Equal Protection Clause should enable ALL to be married and to have the same available to them - no more affirmative action, no more ban on gay marriages, etc, etc. However, MLK Jr. would not have been pro-gay marriage. He was a Baptist minister, after all. Plus, what blacks went through was more extreme by far than what gays go through, although I certainly DO believe gays should be allowed to legally be married.
This country is fucked up, though. People want equality and divide themselves anyway. (Hello, BET! Imagine having a television station devoted to only whites! They'd be sued for discrimination.)

  56. 156

Re: KOOL KID – Hey, fuckwad, marriage isn't a civil right. Not even for straight people. For the love of Zeus, take advantage of Obama's education policies when the time comes.

  57. 157

THIS IS FAR FROM OVER. REPUBLICANS VOTED AGAINST GAYS,BLACKS VOTED AGAINST GAYS. THOSE ARE YOUR ENEMIES.

  58. 158

THIS IS FAR FROM OVER. REPUBLICANS VOTED AGAINST GAYS,BLACKS VOTED AGAINST GAYS. THOSE ARE YOUR ENEMIES. AND FOR THE MENTAL MIDGET HOMOPHOBES HERE,CORRETTA SCOTT KING WAS A HUGE GAY RIGHTS SUPPORTER.THAT WAS HIS WIDOW. SECONDLY GAYS WERE KILLED BY THE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS BY HITLER,AND ARE KILLED BY MANY COUNTRIES, MANY BEING IN AFRICA.SO SPARE ME HOW FAIR THINGS ARE. THE BOTTOM LINE IS GAY PEOPLE ARE BORN GAY AND THE UNEDUCATED AND BIGOTED SEGMENTS OF SOCIETY STILL PUNISH THEM,HISTORY WONT BE KIND TO THIS FILTH.

  59. 159

GAY PEOPLE YOU HAVE TO START HOLDING REPUBLICANS RESPONSIBLE,THEY ARE BEHIND THIS,THE MORMONS FUNDED IT AND THE BLACKS VOTED FOR IT. THOSE ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS. PERIOD. AND IF YOU HAVE FAMILY OR FRIENDS WHO VOTED AGAINST YOU ,CUT THEM OUT,IF THEY THINK YOUR BENEATH HUMAN,THEY DONT DESERVE YOU IN YOUR LIFE AND THEY DONT DESERVE ANYTHING POSTIVE FOR THEM. TIME TO PUNISH OUR ENEMIES.

  60. 160

IT BARELY PASSED. IT WILL BE OVERTURNED

  61. 161

IT BARELY PASSED. IT WILL BE OVERTURNED. WHITE PEOPLE AND ASIANS VOTED TO NOT BREAK UP GAY MARRIAGES.

  62. 162

BLACKS AND REPUBLICANS VOTED AGAINST GAYS IN HUGE NUMBERS. MORMONS PAID FOR THIS TO WIN.

  63. 163

WHITE PEOPLE AND ASIANS AND THOSE UNDER 30 VOTED TO TREAT GAYS LIKE HUMAN BEINGS. REPUBLICANS ,BLACKS AND MOROMS ARE HATEFUL UNEDUCATED BIGOTS.

  64. 164

VC1-IT BOTHERS YOU THAT PEOPLE ARE PROTESTING ,YOU FCKING PIECE OF SHIT. IT SHOULD BOTHER YOU THAT INBRED REPUBLCIANS AND MORMONS AND UNEDUCATED MINORIITES VOTED TO TAKE AWAY RIGHTS FROM GAY PEOPLE AND BREAK UP MARRIAGES.THATS WHAT SHOULD BOTHER YOU,YOU PIECE OF PATHETIC INDIFFERENT SCUM. AND I THINK WHEN ITS A 51 TO 49 MARGIN ITS CLOSE AND NOT A LARGE ENOUGH MAJORITY TO TAKE AWAY SUCH DECENT RIGHTS. THE THRESH-HOLD FOR TAKING AWAY RIGHTS AND PUTING HATE INTO OUR CONSTITUTION SHOULD BE MUCH HIGER,GET THAT ASSHOLE.

  65. 165

BOB-ITS TRAILER PARK WHITE TRASH SCUM LIKE YOU AND UNEDUCATED MINORITES THAT CREATE ALL THE PROBLEMS IN THIS COUNTRY,AND MAINLY IN CALIFORNIA. SCREW OFF,STOP PEDDLING YOUR DISGUSTING BIGOTRY AS MORALS AND RELIGON.

  66. 166

Re: Intellect_Rules – Yes. That's it, you asshole. Blame the Mormons. You cry wolf all the time, saying how horrible we are and how much we hate and don't help any causes. The Mormon church is one of the most helpful churches in the world. Red Cross and other organizations ALWAYS report that the LDS Church is usually the first on the scene to give whatever help they can. They donate time and money and hard work to everyone INCLUDING people not of their faith. They've built and helped in the construction of so many other faiths' places of worship (including Catholic churches and Muslim Mosques), it's not even funny. Most of the people love all and would never hurt or try to deny their gay family members and friends any kind of right; they simply donated to a cause they believed strongly in. Stop blaming us for everything and stop marching on our Conferences and Churches and Temples. We've done NOTHING to you.

  67. 167

Re: Kateedid – Yeah, well, they did something stupid, like throw things at the officers and jump on their cars. Maybe you ought to read the newspapers and police reports, asshole.

  68. 168

Re: knowitall – Wow, you really hate Mormons. Tell me, other than writing in all caps, posting made-up information, and being rude and bigoted, do you specialize in anything else? No? I didn't think so. Maybe you ought to pull your head out of your ass and realize that you're NOT a "knowitall". Dumb-ass.

  69. 169

u all are right, it was over…when the supreme court said in no uncertain words that the constitution protected the right of everyone to get married…then a bunch of bigoted fanatics put up a proposition to undermine the rule of law…all perez wants to do is get those rights back and i don't see why this is wrong…if marriage is only a heterosexual institution, then it violates the constitution and should be given back to the churches…i.e. str8 and gay couples get civil unions with all the legal rights and the churches decide who to call married, those of you who voted yes on 8 should be fine with this

The Terminator has annouced that he is planning to raise the sale tax and gut funding for our schools, K thru Community College, as he tries to balance California's budget in crisis. After last Tuesday's election, it is quite clear that there is no longer a seperation of Church and State in California. Instead of taxing us more and hurting our children, it is time to TAX THE CHURCHES. I walked by a Catholic Church in San Diego, Saint Brigid, on my way to vote, and counted 6 YES ON PROP 8 signs attached to the front of the church. Imagine the revenues that the state would reap during these difficult times if these churches were fairly taxed. LETS START A MOVEMENT TO TAX ALL RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS IN CALIFORNIA!
