Oregon Puts California To Shame

This Election Season marks the beginnings of a new era in this country.
We elected an African-American president.
And in the tiny city of Silverton, Oregon, voters pulled off what California could not: looked past differences to see the person underneath and treat him without discrimination.
Stu Rasmussen has become one of the first openly transgender mayors in the United States.
Rasmussen has served 2 terms as Mayor of Silverton, but it was only this time around that he campaigned in a skirt and heels.
Rasmussen identifies as a heterosexual male, and his girlfriend is happy for his landslide win. He has always been transgender, but "came out" only a couple of years ago. He jokingly says that his bosom was the result of a mid-life crisis, "Some guys' mid-life crisis is motorcycles or sports cars or climbing mountains or trophy wives or whatever. I always wanted cleavage, so I went out and acquired some."
Stu admits that was worried how his run for Mayor would go, but was glad to see that people were unfazed. "We get down to discussing whatever the issue is - city business or business or whatever - and they figure out this guy's different, but he knows what he's talking about."
Voter Gail Frassenei says, "He wants to maintain the integrity of Silverton. I think it's amazing a small town like this can be so open-minded, to elect someone that's made a life change."
Becoming a little bit emotional, Rasmussen says, "I'm prejudiced, but I think this is just about the coolest town on Earth."
We wish we could say similarly for California.
By the way, yes, we used the term "transgender" correctly.

What is it, exactly, that you want, other than money? LGBT already have equal rights. The only equality that you don't have, is the right to marry the same gender. That is not an issue of equality; it is a conceptual issue. First of all, marriage is a Christian concept, and homosexuality is a deliberate defiance of that concept, so why would you expect to enjoy the benefits that flow from that concept. If LGBT want to live in union with each other, you can do that now, but if you want to enjoy benefits of the government such as spousal benefits, then you need to realize that there is a structure whereby each generation contributes to the costs of aging parents, and LGBT cannot procreate, therefore, the government would crash in subsequent generations if you only have spousal benefits coming out, and no offspring to replenish it. And don't throw that adoption bullshit at me either, because only a few LGBT would ultimately adopt children.

Prop 8 WILL be overturned, even its opponents agree with that. This was a push by the Mormon Church to earn its Evangelical badge of honor so that Romney can run on the GOP ticket in 2012. Actually, to be fair, that could possibly be true, if the abnormalities in the brain that cause gender confusion flow from chromosome damage in the womb. Yay oregon! I live in Oregon. Silverton is just your average small town. Farmers, rebels, jocks, football..etc. Oregon is an amazing state in a lot of ways. Like, we dont pump our own gas, we dont have sales tax… and now we have a town with a transgender mayor! I couldnt be more proud!

Sure, there may have been some studies that have drawn that conclusion, but more often then not, their research methods have been discredited or their theories disproved. It's important to take all research findings with a grain of salt.

Also…..I dont understand you're second point about Obama. First of all Oregon is a blue state (Democrat) - so you referring to us as republicans makes no sense two ways: we arent republicans; if we were reps then insulting Obama wouldnt piss us off.

Wrong info. If you really look at the breakdown, the same amount of Asians voted against the ban as much as white folks. I don't think race played a role as much as education level.
