Pleeeeaaassseeee. Quit crying about this people. I live in CA and I rarely saw ANY ads saying to Vote Yes on Prop 8. All I SAW was ads to vote NO. STOP blaming the Mormon Church for this. It was a vote that people choose themselves, with little help from the Mormons. Frankly, I am surprised that it passed, due to the highly liberal people in CA. But reality is, even liberals dislike the thought of Gays being married. I just am SICK of the blame game.

PLEASE READ THE MESSAGE BELOW BEFORE JUDGING THE CHURCH.
SALT LAKE CITY 7 November 2008 The Church issued the following statement today:
It is disturbing that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is being singled out for speaking up as part of its democratic right in a free election.
Members of the Church in California and millions of others from every faith, ethnicity and political affiliation who voted for Proposition 8 exercised the most sacrosanct and individual rights in the United States — that of free expression and voting.
While those who disagree with our position on Proposition 8 have the right to make their feelings known, it is wrong to target the Church and its sacred places of worship for being part of the democratic process.
Once again, we call on those involved in the debate over same-sex marriage to act in a spirit of mutual respect and civility towards each other. No one on either side of the question should be vilified, harassed or subject to erroneous information.

This is how the Mormon cult feels about African Americans…
LDS - "You see some classes of the human family that are BLACK, UNCOUTH, UNCOMELY, DISAGREEABLE and LOW in their habits, WILD, and seemingly DEPRIVED OF NEARLY ALL THE BLESSINGS OF THE INTELLIGENCE that is generally bestowed upon mankind. The first man that committed the odious crime of killing one of his brethren will be cursed the longest of any one of the children of Adam. Cain slew his brother. Cain might have been KILLED, and THAT WOULD HAVE PUT A TERMINATION TO THAT LINE OF HUMAN BEINGS. This was not to be, and the Lord put A MARK upon him, which is THE FLAT NOSE AND BLACK SKIN. Trace mankind down to after the flood, and then another curse is pronounced upon the same race — that they should be the "servants of servants;" Book of Mormon
PLEASE STOP JUDGING THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS OR COMMONLY KNOWN AS "MORMON" CHURCH, IF YOU REALLY DO NOT KNOW THE FACTS. ..YOU HAVE TO THINK ALSO, THAT MAYBE YOUR CHURCH ON WHATEVER YOU ARE IN RIGHT NOW, VOTED "NO" AS WELL TO THIS PROPOSITION.
I saw some mormons bilk this poor kids out of a dinner at a nicer restaurant. They TOTALLY stuck him with the tab (3 mormon cute girls to one HS looking kid). They definitely play on sex to recruit. In my area they only send the cute girls out door to door. You can id them by the name tags. Then you can avoid them…or make out with people of the same sex in front of them just because you can.
I signed it! I live here in Salt Lake, & I don't think the LDS church in UTAH, should try & dictate how people live in CALIFORNIA!!! 2 very different states.
Every mormon I have EVER met has been rude, pushy and completely intolerant of anything different than what they're conned into believing. And that's not fair because I'm sure not every single mormon is like that. It's the radicals that give bad reps.
I really have to wonder if that site is pure fact or just more propaganda. Either way, I signed…
Marriage is supposed to be about love and commitment… not orientation.
Like a few have posted in other entries, if marriage is so sacred to heterosexual people, why is the divorce rate so incredibly high? I say give the right to people who are going to cherish it.
Re: Bleezy –
First of all, I read the ballot question how it was written and it COULDN'T have been more clear. It plainly states yes means for only man and woman to marry and no means same sex can marry. It was extremely clear, so no I don't think there was a translation problem unless the person voting doesn't know a lick of english and in that case why the hell are they voting on it? Furthermore, why the hell are you quoting "mexican" as if I said it, and explaining the difference between illegal mexicans and americans. I never said anything about mexicans or illegals. I said half of "hispanic voters" voted yes on 8. I didn't say mexicans. So I don't know what the hell you are ranting about.
on a side note… what the hell ever happened to separation of church and state???
Holy crap. :(
You guys… what are we doing to ourselves? Seriously… we have the power, intelligence, heart and the technology to make a REAL difference in this world and to actually TRY to make it a better place for EVERYONE. And what are we doing instead? Hating each other more than ever and ripping this country apart piece by piece.
Freedom of religion has turned into war. Freedom of speech has turned into a punishable offense. Freedom of love has turned into a burning at the stake and a witch hunt.
Can't we all just look out for each other instead?
i hate prop 8.. but just mormons? there's also uneducated voters, and ads. nevermind.. that was all constructed by the church. my baad.. you're right perezito.
and people saying to get overr it.. no. we lost by the tiniest percent. that like i said, would make a huge diff if people even knew what they were voting for! the prop made sure to sound appealing "protecting marriage" and had horrible lies on their ads.. it isn't fair, they won by lies, and are stripping people of rights, women didn't give up because men kept saying they couldn't vote and trust me.. they were being put down by a bigger percentage then. psssh
NO on PROP 8.
All these court cases aren't going to be passed, I just read an article, they've all been turned down before for reasons that arent just going to change. better luck next lifetime.
Also, the Mormons and the minorities are to be blamed for this. It's not as if people from other faiths/ caucasians didn't vote YES, it's just that the MAJORITY of people that came out in support of the prop were either Mormon or "ethnic".
It's controversial, yes, but entirely true. Look it up.
Besides, I'd be willing to bet that most of you (along with a lot of the major monetary contributors to the prop side of the bill) are not actually from California. If you're not from here, it doesn't effect you (adversely of otherwise, if you're a bigot), so you shouldn't even be commenting on it.
You can't expect to disrupt the lives of 40 million people for another vote, just because you don't like the result. It is the obligation of adult voters to be informed. If the Mormon Church put out false information, that is no different than a Political Lie. Voters who choose to rely on the information presented by the Church, are going to follow that direction no matter. And if the population of California is such a high number of Mormons [and Catholics/Christians who stand with them on Prop 8] as to have this effect on the vote, then that is the majority of the culture, and so, majority rules. The actual ridiculous part of this issue, is that each State takes a different position on the issue. To be recognized as married on a State level, but not on the Federal level [since the Defense of Marriage Act defines marriage as between a man and a woman] what value is there in being married if it is only recognized randomly? All these people in individual States are just spinning their wheels. If homos really want to be successful in their cause, they need to amend the Defense of Marriage Act. That would then require the majority vote of All Americans, and that is not going to happen anytime soon.
Re: Butterfly08 – What about all the millions of straight couples who have anal sex? Why shouldnt this apply to them aswell? If youre going to enforce this, you have to put cameras in every bedroom around the country.
Thou shall not judge! So in reality you are also going to hell for trying to do Gods job. Have a nice trip!
I find it quite wrong that you want to blame the LDS church for Prop 8 getting passed, when there clearly aren't enough members of the Church in the state of California to have passed it by themselves.
The Church never donated money to support Prop 8. Members themselves might have, but NOT the Church itself. It has always been a firm belief in the Church that marriage should only be between a man and a woman, and so this is nothing new.
Although I feel that everyone should get married, and that religious beliefs shouldn't be forced on people who don't feel the same, blaming the LDS church for the 51% of California citizens who voted yes on Prop 8 is a form of cowardness, dishonesty, and hate.
The only regions of California where Prop 8 was voted against were near Los Angeles and San Fransisco. The rest of the state was for it.
Clearly, the Mormons aren't even close to entirely to blame for this.
Spreading hate and being disrespectful towards their beliefs is just as wrong as someone doing the same towards the gay community.
If you're going to blame people for what happened, then make sure you blame the CORRECT people (aka the 51% of Californians who voted for Prop 8, NOT just the Mormons.)

Hey, loved you in M.A.S.H. Anyway, was wondering what you think of the Baptist faith, considering that the Administration of the Baptist Church has supported the position of Reverend James David Manning in this y_o_u_t_u_b_e video. Check it out and let me know.

Oh PLEASE! The mormon church has NOTHING to do with why Prop 8 passed. I don't care if they teach kids about it in school or anything like that, which, by the way, I KNOW is not true, I JUST DON'T WANT GAY PEOPLE MARRYING! Simple as that. Have your civil unions. You guys have domestic partner rights. Be happy with that. Not that straight people don't marry and divorce, but a good 98% of ALL my gay friends are in LOVE a week after meeting someone, and so DONE with them 3 weeks later. The gay community is very promiscuous, don't need them marrying and divorcing like they change their hair color!
I am Christian. However I do not share the same opinion on gay marriage that most Christians do. Nor do I believe that Gays and Lezbians shouldn't adopt. I Believe that If someone is willing to love a child that has no one to love them regardless of potential problems, then by all means, I say let them. Now, if 2 people love eachother and wish to spend the rest of their lives together, then why not let them? Furthermore, who do they think they are? Need we remind them of "their ways"? Marrying off your 13 year old daughter to a 60 year old man? THat's child molestation! Or running off every teenaged boy …… or having 20 children and 3 wives ALL BLEEDING THE GOVERNMENT! They have absolutely no room to talk! I am sorry.
~ And on the issue of tax-exempt status for Churches ~ that is crap. America is supposed to be for all the people, and using tax dollars from non-religious Americans to offset those exemptions is not fair to them. Churches should operate as a private business just like every other business. Let them get their financial support from their followers, because then the crooked and fraudulent Preachers like David James Manning in the video link in my post here at [143] would not be able to propagate their hatred with tax dollars.

you must be getting in my head piggie…heehee….i accidently bought a big ol' 5 pak of granny panties by accident the other day!
Im actually a baptized mormon. I will never forget the day when my grandfather and I left church and he told me that he didnt understand why a great and giving (gay) florist in our community was going to go to hell according to his church. An 83 year old man said this. A lifelong Mormon said this. I can only hope that the rest will be like my grandpa.
LaMisma [12] says: "…I think its sad they passed abortion laws but not gay rights… If Youre a straight Slut and want to murder your unborn innocent tiny human being then Go ahead. Kill that baby blend it up let it feel the pain as its tiny limbs are blended up into mush then flushed down a toilet if any fingers heads or full body parts come out theyll simply be put in a red garbage bad HAZARDOUS! But if you love someone who is the same sex as you HOW DARE YOU SHOW YOUR LOVE AND MARRY THEM?"
—————————————————–
You are a major alarmist. In your theory, sperm would also be defined as a baby. I absolutely support a woman's right to choose, although I could never personally terminate a pregnancy myself just because it was an inconvenient conception. A concern about people who are very vocal on the issue of anti-abortion, is that they are generally personalities that are very vocal about other issues as well; and they are the loudest screamers when it comes to increased taxes, but they fail to recognize the financial burdens that would flow from hundreds of thousands of unwanted drug and alcohol-addicted babies that would have to be supported by tax dollars; many for their entire lifetimes.
It is amazing how perez prints, no wait, copies things, then acts innocent by not putting his opinion in print. Most of the attachment is bullshit. He is doing the same thing that he accuses the mormon church of doing-spreading hate. I know there are mormons in california, but they are not 52% of the population. And there are lies all through this election, and past ones too. If perez believes the 'article' and feels that everyone should do something, then if Obama does not do what he promised, does that mean people can descend on DC and throw him out? after all, he got in on 52%-as for saying the mormon church should lose their not for profit-I am sure that the church directly did not contribute to this. Like alot of other not for profits do. STOP HELP SPREADING THE HATE PEREZ. YOU WANT EQUAL RIGHTS, THEY WILL NOT BY HATING ON ANOTHER GROUP.
As witnessed on this site, I think there was a lot of confusion on Prop 8. Voting no meant meant you supported it, voting yes meant you were against it. Probably a lot of the less informed voted incorrectly.
mamajud ~ you know I really dig you. We are kind of alike, but not really. Let's call a truce ~ but you know, you threw out the first dagger, and a girl can't be no doormat. LOL at the granny panties. It's my favorite rhyme.

The Mormon religion [and I use the word religion loosley] is wrought and rotten with selfish, power-mongering pedophiles, who adjust the Bible for their own personal sexual deviations. It is not a religion; it is a cult.

I've got a newsflash for you ~ your church does not own the democratic right to vote in a free election ~ individuals own that right, and your own statement above clearly confirms that you are directing your members on how to exercise their "individual" votes. You just gave my post at [161] the stamp of legitimacy that this is a cult that "controls" their members, instead of a church whose purpose is to preach and support their members.

This is so unfair. I am a mormon. It is not the Mormons fault that it passed. Did you ever think to post the statement given by the Catholic bishop stating how unfair it was that the Mormons were being targeted and listed all the other churches that were as involved? No. Because when it comes to this kind of stuff you only show one side whether it is true or not. Our church gives aid and service to people all over the world every day. Do you do that Perez? None of us were forced to give money, support, or vote for this proposition.
I have visited your site for a long time but I will no longer come here. It has been getting a little too hateful in many ways for me lately but targeting my church is something that I will not support. Please, anyone who is reading this, do not base your opinion of us or our faith on the things that you read on this website or on the others about prop 8. It is not true. It is not fair.
How could you post this???!! It was not just the mormon church that voted this down! The Catholic Church and the Evangelical church also pushed their members to vote for this proposition! How could you be for stopping HATE and then post this website that is clearly pushing HATE against Mormons?? You cannot return hate with hate. I really hope that nothing happens at these rallies now - they do not deserve to be singled out! They absolutely do not make up 51% of CA and not all Mormons think exactly alike!!!!!!!!!!
Re: LaMisma – better than having a mother who wanted to kill her child and was forced to raise it, so it will be tortured his/her whole life, isn't it?
Butterfly08 [24] says: Passage Romans 1:26-27: 26 That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. 27 And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved.
The term "sodomy," named after the inhabitants of Sodom whose homosexual perversions caused God to rain fire and brimstone on their city in the days of Abraham (Genesis 19:4,5,12,24), has for thousands of years been synonymous with this unique form of ungodliness. That it is basically a sin of rebellion against God is evident from the above passage in Romans.

Perez, I have been a strong supporter of you and your site for a very long time, and I am extremely disappointed with this post. I am Mormon AND a supporter of gay marriage, and as much as you talk about free speech and rights for everyone, the fact that you would post this attack against just ONE group involved with this shows how petulant and ignorant you really are. As someone who is respected and listened to as much as you, you had the unique opportunity to really make a difference in this and if you keep posting stuff like this, you are jut spreading HATE…Do I think that gay marriage should be allowed? Yes. Does the majority of California? No. Do I think it will happen someday? Yes. Are you hurting your efforts now by pointing the finger and acting like an accusatory brat because you didn't get what you wanted on the first official vote on gay marriage? YES- stop with the negativity and the hate and spend some time thinking about what POSITIVE things you can do to change for the next vote. In the meantime I will not be on your site and I will stop promoting your site on my facebook and to my friends. Thanks for the let-down…I thought you were better than this.

Perez, while Mormons in Utah funded a lot of this, their numbers are small in California. The people who actually cast the votes were largely Latino, black and Asians of OTHER "Christian" denominations. Of course the Mormons deserve scorn but how about YOU, so proud to be Latino, do some outreach into your own community to find out why THEY stole your rights? I voted against 8 of course but am stunned by how none of these protests are addressing the actually Californians who voted for the thing. They weren't Mormons. Are you afraid of offending minority groups or what?
whats the name of the mormon star who stood up against prop8?
come on,back this story up with names and dates and proof.

But this web site, and Perez indirectly, are attacking the church's right to speak out and campaign on behalf of Prop 8–an amendment that means a lot to their theology and belief system.
The law does, indeed, say that a 501 C3 organization cannot lobby for specific legislation or a candidate. However, if you know the law, you'll know that Prop eight was a propositional ballot initiative–it's a consitutional amendment directly proposed and voted on BY the people. It doesn't involve a candidate and it is NOT legislation.
Therefore, lobbying on behalf of a proposition is what's called, under the law, direct lobbying, which can be done by a 501 C3 organization, regardless of it's religious affiliation.
You know if this was about anything else you would be blasting the protesters saying it was put to vote so get over it. The people of Ca has spoken so GET OVER IT. It will never effect you anyway because no one will ever want your fat ass.
I can't believe all the negatives toward Perez for posting this. The Mormons need to be looked at closely. This campaign was HUGE. I live in Arizona so I know because they did the same thing here. Mormons are very anti-gay and even despise things like Harry Potter because they see it as witchcraft. It's their way or the highway and that is WRONG… and mostly SAD.
Mormons are weirdos..I freakin hate driving through Utah and putting gas..Total weirdos!!!

Mormon Dads like to have sex with their kids. And mormon women are sex slaves.

tinyhands10 [51] says: the mormon church didnt donate money as an institution, the members of the church were encouraged to donate, which is not illegal in any way.
—————————————————–
I don't think anyone is suggesting that the mormon church "donated" money as an institution; but anyway, donated the money ~ to who?
—————————————————–
Anyway, the issue of money spent by the mormon church on Prop 8 relates to the advertising dollars they spent. And it is unfair that churches who spend money on political advertisements should be receiving tax-exemptions from the government, since tax-exemptions are given to churches with the intended purpose of alleviating the financial burdens that flow from their distribution of emergency aid and charity. Churches are not given tax-exemptions so that they can spend those surplus dollars on political advertising.

~Snap~
Get over it!!!!!!! The people have spoken! Try again next election!! Trying to blame the Mormon church is just plain stupid. More than 50% of California is not Mormon.
That is no lie. I dated a mormon in high school and his family/mother was insane. I had to write an apology letter to her for writing in my (friends only) live journal that he snuck out during family time for 5 minutes to call me.
Sit down and shut up, Perez. Democracy worked and your pissed you lost. You know what…I'm pissed that Obama won. I think everyone who voted for McCain should take to the streets and protest and blame the Trinity United Church of Christ (Rev. Jeremiah Wright's church).
Also, someone had a good point farther up about the 70% of black voters who voted yes on prop 8. Just because they are Obama supporters doesn't mean they are gay right activists. I don't know one black person who thinks homosexuality is okay. Sorry, Perez. It's not just the blind religious who don't support you.
yeah, we ALL get to see how tolerant the NoOnH8ters are - even Jerry brown - you wrote the BIASED description and even got to pick the number so his radical homos could use it for the no on H8 campaign - if it wasn't legal why did they spend 40 million trying to strike it down - besides - it goes much further - it goes above the legislature above the supreme court - that is why all the ire. Nice to see it was the lovely no on haters throwing rocks, vandalizing cars, trashing private and public property - yeah - all that tolerance out there - the more they protest - the more we all look around and go - yep - we were right - they are unstable, angry, unamerican assholes - who disrespect the entire democratic process with these ANGRY HATE rallies - lets face it people - homo's HATE: Christians, families, hetrosexuals, and freedom
Perez, you need to get over it already. Just as much as you have a right to stand up for what you believe in and even take it to your blog to gain support, I (meaning straight, white, middle class) have a right to do the same. I didn't want to have to refer to my husband as exhibit A on official forms. I don't want my children taught that it's an acceptable lifestyle which goes against the grain of the fabric of my life. It is happening and there are some E. Coast states that are proof of this. Why can't I fight to keep the sanctity of marriage what I feel it is and should remain, between a man and a woman. I can ask of you, who are you to change that anyways? You have a right to voice, promote, and even protest for whatever you believe as do I. However it needs to be done peacefully. I haven't seen any Mormons or pro prop 8 supporters get as aggressively accusatory, attacking, and disrespectful as some of the prop 8 naysayers.

GOD BLESS US ALL…
FOR ALL YOU OUT THERE…. PLEASE READ THE MESSAGE BELOW… BEFORE JUDGING THE CHURCH.

PLEASE STOP JUDGING THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS OR COMMONLY KNOWN AS "MORMON" CHURCH, IF YOU REALLY DO NOT KNOW THE FACTS. ..YOU HAVE TO THINK ALSO, THAT MAYBE YOUR CHURCH ON WHATEVER YOU ARE IN RIGHT NOW, VOTED "NO" AS WELL TO THIS PROPOSITION.
uhhh how do you all know that perez believes in this? maybe he just posted this because it was interesting.
Nah, I think it was the Presbyterians.
Discrimination to stop discrimination? Yea because this has worked soooo well in the past. Great idea.
H8 breeds Hate. And now I am hating on the Mormons.
I hope everyone signs the petition.
Boo-hoo, poor fags.
Re: tetzy – Don't feel bad for us…
We're rich, great looking and get to have sex whenever we want.
:(
Holy crap.
Can't we all just look out for each other instead?
thanks from oakland!thank you Perez!
i hate prop 8.. but just mormons? there's also uneducated voters, and ads. nevermind.. that was all constructed by the church. my baad.. you're right perezito.
and people saying to get overr it.. no. we lost by the tiniest percent. that like i said, would make a huge diff if people even knew what they were voting for! the prop made sure to sound appealing "protecting marriage" and had horrible lies on their ads.. it isn't fair, they won by lies, and are stripping people of rights, women didn't give up because men kept saying they couldn't vote and trust me.. they were being put down by a bigger percentage then. psssh
NO on PROP 8.
You have no idea. You have NO idea what is upon you now.
There are more Mormons than Gays in California?
It's called DEMOCRACY and if you don't like it TRY CHINA.
Re: KTMAC55 – Haha. Don't try to make sense on this site. Cogent thoughts normally get shot down by swearing and name-calling.
All these court cases aren't going to be passed, I just read an article, they've all been turned down before for reasons that arent just going to change. better luck next lifetime.
How about a boycott of all things related to Mormons? Like that Twilight movie since the author is a Mormon!
Actually, how about the entire state of Utah? Boycott Sundance, their skiing resorts and entertainment! Nothing talks more than money!
My feet hurt from Marching all over Los Angeles. Come back to LA Perez and join us!
What is an EASIER target? A MORMON or a GAY (a GAY MORMON for sure).
There is a HUGE Mormon population in CA. I grew up outside of San Francisco, at least 1/3 of my classmates were Mormon. No joke.
Most of us are disgusted.
Re: Billvie Bicks – we are not tax exempt and never have been
Re: billissexy – YOU ARE A NARROW MINDED CUNT
YOU STUPID IGNORANT DUMMIES! WE GAY PEOPLE WILL HAVE OUR RIGHTS TO MARRY!
Re: terryeo – At last. A thinker here.

I've never cared for Mormons. Now I have another reason not to.
Gee, hmmmmmmmmm, CA, AZ, & FL all passed Prop 8, see a trend?! For all you morons, the MAJORITY of people do NOT want gays marrying!
So yeah, get over it people. It will be a LONG time before gays are allowed to marry, thank God!

The Mormon religion [and I use the word religion loosley] is wrought and rotten with selfish, power-mongering pedophiles, who adjust the Bible for their own personal sexual deviations. I've got a newsflash for you ~ your church does not own the democratic right to vote in a free election ~ individuals own that right, and your own statement above clearly confirms that you are directing your members on how to exercise their "individual" votes.

Re: Pig_Nasty – HOW'S ABOUT MAKIN A LITTLE BACON !!

—————————————————–
Perez, while Mormons in Utah funded a lot of this, their numbers are small in California. The people who actually cast the votes were largely Latino, black and Asians of OTHER "Christian" denominations. Of course the Mormons deserve scorn but how about YOU, so proud to be Latino, do some outreach into your own community to find out why THEY stole your rights? I voted against 8 of course but am stunned by how none of these protests are addressing the actually Californians who voted for the thing. They weren't Mormons. Are you afraid of offending minority groups or what?

——————————————————
I think the Mormon's theology is whacked out too.
(Part two coming…)

Perez….
No one is trying to stop you from being gay…..
no one cares.
Be gay and be happy.

"Mormons were not the only reason yall didn't get your precious prop 8 passed."
prop 8 WAS passed, genius. that's why he calls it prop "hate." it was a proposition to "protect marriage" by banning gay marriage.
