Why would spouses kill each other if they couldn't get divorced? The people who voted for 8 supposedly did so to protect a sacred institution that they take very seriously. If this were really true, divorce (or murder for that matter…) would never be an option and these groups would also try to make it ILLEGAL to divorce, just like they did for same-sex marriage. But they're not going to make divorce (THE only threat to marriage and families) illegal because this "argument" is just an excuse they use to mask the real issue: homophobia. And a lot of people seem to forget that there is supposed to be a separation of church and state. Laws are supposed to protect people, not discriminate against them or be a way for religious groups to enforce their beliefs on others. It's so ironic and sad how many groups like Mormons and African Americans, who have experienced a lot of discrimination, would turn around and discriminate against others. It simply doesn't make sense. As for the religious argument, I was raised Catholic and taught to treat others as you would want to be treated and that God loves ALL of his children. We have King Henry the VIII to blame for divorce entering the christian faith as it is today. He wanted to do it his way and not God's way. Why would spouses kill each other if they couldn't get divorced? The people who voted for 8 supposedly did so to protect a sacred institution that they take very seriously. If this were really true, divorce (or murder for that matter…) would never be an option and these groups would also try to make it ILLEGAL to divorce, just like they did for same-sex marriage. But they're not going to make divorce (THE only threat to marriage and families) illegal because this "argument" is just an excuse they use to mask the real issue: homophobia. And a lot of people seem to forget that there is supposed to be a separation of church and state. Laws are supposed to protect people, not discriminate against them or be a way for religious groups to enforce their beliefs on others. It's so ironic and sad how many groups like Mormons and African Americans, who have experienced a lot of discrimination, would turn around and discriminate against others. It simply doesn't make sense. As for the religious argument, I was raised Catholic and taught to treat others as you would want to be treated and that God loves ALL of his children. (I must have missed the footnote in the Bible that excludes gays from this.) That trumps any other excuse to treat a person with any less respect and dignity than you would give to someone else.

The main arguments against Prop 8 appear to be maintaining the sanctity of marriage from a religious perspective and the fact that gay marriage would be taught in schools (bald faced LIE by the way).
I would like to know how people therefore feel about the marriages of Hindis, Bhuddists, Muslims, Atheists, Agnostics etc? None of these heterosexual marriages have ANYTHING to do with the religious tenents of marriage as it pertains to the Bible, yet don't seem to offend people.
And what about weddings that take place on an hourly rate, where the whole thing, from proposal to man and wife, takes less time and thought than getting your hair blown out - how exactly does that celebrate the sanctity of marriage?
haha.. i can't believe how stupid some of you are… of course this ad isn't real.. prohibiting divorce wouldn't be legal… it is an attack on the yes on prop 8 supporters who kept arguing how sacred marriage is.. and therefore it should only be between a man and a woman.. most of their arguments were mainly about the values and the tradition of marriage, since they really had no legal arguments to help them win their case, the resorted to lies and manipulated Californians to believe that it is the moral duty of the residents of the state to keep marriage between a man and a woman. so if they claim how important and sacred marriage is and how it should ONLY be for heterosexuals, then divorce shouldn't be something this is allowed… because if traditional marriage and families protect children, non-traditional acts like divorce would therefore, HARM children.. because if Yes on Prop 8 supporters also support their right to divorce, then their whole argument about how sacred holy matrimony between two heterosexuals are would be invalid and it would further expose how they lied to the public… either way, Prop 8 was unnecessary and sending a horrible discriminative message to the rest of the world. Last time I checked, this was America, land of the free, not land of the Christian beliefs….
