Hairspray Composer Shows Us How to Stand Against H8te
Filed under: Politik > Business Blitz
Hairspray composer Marc Shaiman was shocked to find out this weekend that a business associate was a supporter of Proposition H8te.
According to public records, the Artistic Director of the California Musical Theater, Scott Eckern, donated $1,000 to YES on H8te.
This shook Shaiman to the core as Eckern was granted one of Hairspray's few regional theater licenses.
How could someone who undoubtedly worked with people from the gay community on a daily basis actually support the hateful proposition?
Well, Shaiman explains to friends in an email we've obtained how he dealt with the revelation.
The course of action he took and promotes can be used in your own life.
Check it out!
Friends,
This weekend, due to it being public record, I learned that a Mr. Scott Eckerd, Artistic Director, California Musical Theatre (where "HAIRSPRAY" was performed last year, one of our first licensed regional theatre productions) donated $1000 towards YES on Prop. 8Well, I did what I felt I needed to do, I called him right up. "Hi, it's Marc Shaiman, co-creator of HAIRSPRAY, would you please call me back?" He did. I asked him how a man who makes his life and living working with (and I assume befriending and loving) gay men and women could possibly think we were less entitled to the same basic rights he enjoys. He basically said "it's not a personal thing against people, it's my belief regarding the protection of marriage…etc. (I'm paraphrasing his words, but that is the gist of it).
I then told him the idea that money from his salary that was, in a small way, made from a production of HAIRSPRAY had now been put to use to pass this bigoted Proposition truly hurt and sickened me and that no future project of mine would ever play his theatre.
(Oy, let's hope I have some future projects!)
So, ladies and gentlemen of the-ay-tuh, what can we do? We can picket (our own shows!), deny rights, etc. And I am all for that.
But how can we CHANGE MINDS?
Oscar Hammerstein (what a guy!) wrote "You've Got To Be Taught". That's what gets me. People aren't born with the belief that gays are "sinners", they HAVE TO BE TAUGHT. All of religion is TAUGHT.
As the pie of reality hit me (and so many others) in the face last week about how many people still believe that one sentence from one lovely book "proves" we are an "abomination", (a book that also allows for the stoning of wives or people who wear two different threads of material and don't get that book started on shellfish…) I believe I must now greet every person I meet with "Hello, my name is Marc, God made me gay and I think that THAT and He are both fabulous."
Or maybe "Hi, God made me gay, so please doll, take it up with Him"
I have a gospel station programmed in my car radio, and when it came on yesterday morning, I found myself turning it off due to quotes I've read these last few days. For me personally, there is nothing more gut-wrenchingly sad to me than that moment. I joyfully bypass talk radio, I enjoyed muting the TV when Sarah Palin came on or changing the channel anytime Bush appears, but TURNING OFF GOSPEL MUSIC? It was then that I truly realized I have got to do something to start changing minds because people, I AM NOT GIVING UP GOSPEL MUSIC!!
I'm blabbering now, and to people I have great respect for, so, what am I trying to say here?
Please contact Mr. Scott Eckerd, Artistic Director, California Musical Theatre
http://www.californiamusicaltheatre.com/index.cfm?page=572414
and ask him why he thinks I (and maybe you) am less a person than he. I don't want to attempt to affect the livelihood of folks who work at this particular theatre (as if that was in my power) but we have GOT to stop sitting back and accepting this bigotry, particularly from people in our own field.
No more apathy! I believe we all thought there was NO WAY discrimination could actually be written into the constitution, but WE WERE WRONG. And what the hell (pardon the pun) happened to the separation of church and state??
Today I will read my morning paper, and take a plane to New York and do many other things that people who believe as Mr. Eckerd will profit from it and I can't YET figure out how to live an entire life without inadvertently supporting folks like that, but for the love of God (pardon the pun), can we all start putting our money where our mouths are??!
Word!!!!!!!

Clearly, people (of California, at least) are not yet ready for gay marriage. It'll take time, but I think it's not a good idea to force them to vote for something that they do not believe in. You will get it in time.
Re: FunMe –
Do you RESEARCH, Gay Marriage was voted DOWN by Californians before, then some judges decided they would overturn the will of the people. Well, we put Prop 8 on the ballot, and GUESS WHAT? The PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN AGAIN! And will continue to; if you don't like it, move!
Re: Sgirl – via dictionary.com:
"retardation: n.
1. A slowing down or hindering of progress; a delay."
by this definition, yes, you are retarded.
the difference between gay couples and child molestors/rapists/etc is that gay couples are ADULTS in a CONSENTING relationship.
and how is this situation NOT analogous to the black civil rights movement? you never explained this. instead of making an argument, you merely stated that it wasn't the same and told me to "get over [my]self." explain to me how this DOESN'T make you an idiot.
Re: mc2too – yeah except the thing is, NOT EVERYONE BELIEVES IN YOUR BIBLE. what gives YOUR religion the right to make the rules for everyone else? if you want to believe that, fine, but if your only justification for a law that's part of our SECULAR government is that "the bible says so," you don't really have any argument at all.
Perez, you and your ilk are all a bunch of hypocrites. You championed democracy and told people to get out the vote…well, they did. The same people that turned out overwhelmingly to support Obama are the same people who tipped the scales in favor of this law! Democracy has spoken and yet you and your supporters are already looking for ways to circumvent it. I agree with what other posters here have written: if you had won, you'd be shitting all over people who were trying to circumvent your victory. Live with it…reasonable people are not looking to bash gays, but we don't believe in gay marriage.
You dipshits still dont have a clue do you? YOU ARE NOT NORMAL! Normal people like the other gender, abnormal people dont. Im not hating on you guys, but thats a fact. If being gay was normal than how come one 2% of the population is gay then? Sounds to me (and apparently everyone else in the world) that you guys are defects. And defects shouldnt be allowed to adopt normal kids and fill their heads with defective bullshit
what this asshole producer did is a hate crime. He disenfranchised an individual based on their beliefs, and did so in a very public manner as to invite others to follow suit and do the same.
THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN, YOU CANNOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO LEGAL MARRIAGE. THIS GOVERNMENT IS A DEMOCRACY, IF YOU DONT LIKE IT, MOVE TO IRAN WHERE YOU WOULD NOT ONLY BE DENIED MARRIAGE, BUT PROBABLY HUNG
great biblical quote in regard to prop 8:
"All things therefore that you want people to DO to you, DO thus to them" (Matthew 7:12),
yeah so like dont lock up murders , because you wouldnt want to get locked up if you murdered someone right?
Nice logic JW you retard
Re: omgkatiekatiekatie – i thought it was about the "love" of the couple not the tax breaks.
oh and also yes everyone has a right to agree and disagree with prop 8, but when you disagree (this is for both sides) it seems everyone discriminates against the opponent. So instead of saying unjustified and harmful points, use some actual factual points. Gay people should be allowed to marry. It wouldnt be the same as a man and woman getting married such as with a pastor or some form of religious ceremony, but it would be something just as equally wonderful for them. And they wouldnt even have the SAME RIGHTS as a married man and woman which is unfair but for those who are nitpicking at everything, under ANY (your) ONES EYES they wouldn't ever be 'equal' to you (this is to anyone who thinks that critizing gays if a good point)
Re: SoOverIt – it IS about love. the tax breaks are just examples of the inequality between civil unions and marriages. that inequality is tantamount to the government saying that one person's love is less valid than another's. it's not the loss of money in and of itself, it's the disenfranchisement represented by the tax inequality.
Don't preach to me about compassion, and if you don't 'hate' homosexual people then you would not vote to take away their right to be married. it's disgraceful and you are just beyond pathetic. Change the subject as much as you want, the point remains…
Re: fantomas – The same thing that makes you straight
Re: straighticketvoter – Thats fucking ridiculous! Like any gay people have power over those sick pedophile fucks… Seriously wake up to yourself. thats like the catholics… Wont allow gay marriage but fucking little boys up the ass is all fine and dandy for them… fuck off with your bullshit, speak some fucking sense
Re: omgkatiekatiekatie – i see what you're saying but maybe instead of fighting for marriage there should be a fight for domestic partnerships to be given those rights that marriages have as well, it just seems that this will continue regardless of the outcome. I mean if people do overturn prop 8 then who is to say that people who voted for prop 8 aren't going to protest that overturn that might happen. I don't think this will ever end!
::The same goes for GAYS - YOU HAVE TO BE TAUGHT. You were taught this and chose to go with it. You were not born this way. Just like some of us were taught religion and follow it.::
Ok, honey, let me enlighten you. I'm bisexual. I knew this when I was 9 years old. I didn't know ANYONE who was gay, Ellen wasn't on TV, and I'd never even heard the word. I grew up around straight people and in a very conservative town and in a Catholic school, no less. Your sexual orientation is not a choice. And, all you have to do is look at studies that confirm the genetic link. Secondly, religion doesn't teach hate. Jesus taught loving your neighbors and doing onto them as they would do onto you. The Bible says it's ok to sell your daughters but that it's an abomination to eat pigs, lobster, or shrimp, or to shave your facial hair. I don't see you subscribing to any of that. There are plenty of religious people who support equal rights and who don't use religion to hate, there are plenty of religious gay people, and plenty of churches (more opening every day) that allow gays into congregations. Even Pope John Paul said it was ok to love your gay children. Sorry dear. It's not religion that's the problem, it's you.
Re: SoOverIt – well, for me it comes back to the whole "separate but equal is inherently unequal" thing. if a "marriage" and a "domestic partnership" constitute exactly the same thing and provide equal rights, why not just call them by the same name?
Re: Telluric1 – The reason divorce rates are at an all time high is because the Bible says: "Because of the increase of sin in the world the love of many will grow cold." As a society we have watched as the amoralism of the 60's have taken over the culture. There is now a war on the traditional family. Fathers are deemed "obsolete". Co-habitation is encouraged. Fornication is glorified. This country needs to return to a bilbical perspective on marriage, as it does serve a purpose far beyond what most post modern humanists understand.
"Matriarchy is merely moral anarchy. All the mothers remain static but only because all the fathers are fugitive and irresponsible. "
-G.K. Chesterton
I don't understand how people can be so hateful. Since people are allowed to practice whichever religion they chose, who is to say that Christianity is the one religion that should govern the way we live? If we can have different religions, we can have different beliefs and no matter what, we can choose love over hate. Why do people think that legalizing gay marriage will turn the world to chaos? We're fine over here in Canada. Don't loose hope!!!! Equality for all!!!
Sooooo, people were supposed to vote no on prop 8 to support people who have proven themselves to be spoiled brats who will throw temper tantrums, bully, demean and threaten those who didn't vote the same way they did? Wow, what a revelation. THAT'LL TEACH EM'!!
Re: omgkatiekatiekatie – true, but I guess it stems back to the whole religion thing. I see what you mean equal but unequal but I don't really think that, it's not like it was for African-Americans because the only difference would be what it' s called not a separation of many things, like gays go here and straights here, you know what I mean? it just seems that it's a lost cause because like I said, I don't think people who are for it are going to just let it be overturn and leave it at that. I've read comments where people say that they don't have anything against gays but feel that marriage is a sacred bond between a man and a woman. I don't think it stems from hate but a religious belief in the sanctity of marriage, and that it wouldn't be such a big deal if it was called differently other than marriage. So that's why I don't see why it would be so hard to try to maybe put something in a ballot for making civil unions be the equivalent of marriage but not the same name. Idk just think it would be easier.
I think what the typical redneck republican trailer trash in here doesnt get is that if you vote to take rights away from gay people for whatever bs reason you come up with, you're not going to be rewarded with their business or love.and I think that is one of the way to re-act to this disgusting act of hate, carried out by the republican party, funded by mormons and voted on by uneducated minorites. I think now we need to pass a a 10 yr minimum marriage act, before divorce can take place, you want to save marriage ,lets do it,im sure the same yes on 8 bigots will vote for it right, Lets pass this with a bare majority to amend the constitution, all in the name of marriage.
Re: Pwn3d! – Better prepare yourself because the supreme court will strike it down again just like they did on prop 22 from 2000. It maybe 6 months or it maybe 2 years. Either way it will happen no matter what you say or vote so get used to it you spiteful hateful person.
not queer at all= If you are so concerned about this being a free country, you would never pass archaic laws to amend the constitution to take rights away from other americans,so spare m your good american freedoms speech, you are nothing but an uneducated moneky who happens to be a bigot and an asshole. Gays will look over who donated to this bigoted cause and will not support those business or people.period. And if you make you money by any gay related cause, you will be singled out.
Re: Hmmmm – Please help me understand people like you. It truly amazes me how you can say get over it and stop your bitching. I keep seeing this stuff come out of hatemongers like you and I just wonder why you think just because something was voted on and narrowly passes makes it right?? Many things have been voted on before yet they were completely the wrong thing to do and were eventually overturned as this will be to and our kids will look back on this with such shame. Don't you ever think about that? Young peopl 18-29 overwhelmingly voted NO on prop8. Thankfully they are the future. Your old world bigotry is dying out and there is nothing you can do about it so get over that!
Re: newfiechic – Peoples constitutional rights were taken away based on others religious views and they should just "give it up". Nice logic there.
Re: kumquat02143 –
Great comment! Wonder why they are such avid readers yet such bigots!
breakage-you are such an uneducated disgusting bigot, that I can only imagine what kind of trash brought you into this world, You are truly a disgusting animal. Lets be clear about one thing, this barely passed and most of the elected officials are against this ,the two senators and the republican governor. Most of the educated and more affluent people vote no. the Republican trailer trash and the scummy minorites vote yes to bigotry against gays, but dont worrry lowlife skank, the republican ca supreme court will throw out this hateful piece of bs . Dont worry.
Re: Sgirl – Oh S girl, here you are again. The queen of all hate and evil. Wow, you just must surf the net all day and post hate everywhere. How much is the devil paying you to spread his word. Such a sad pathetic lonely woman you must be. You had better get ready though because your happiness over prop 8 is so temporary. The governor has attacked the prop 8 results. Obama has come out against what happened. The tide is turning and we are right in the midlle of it. You and your religious zombie buddies rule over this country is just about over. Young people with enlightned minds who overwhelmingly voted NO on 8 are taking over and they will have none of your hate anymore. You may want to consider moving to Hateville or Hate Island. Your time is up. America will be full of love and peace. I know those words must be like nails on a chalkboard, LOL. By the way, have a great day!
Re: omgkatiekatiekatie – YES! YES! YES! Let a religious organization have specific requirements as to who can and cannot marry in THEIR CHURCH, SYNAGOG, MOSQUE, ETC. If two people choose to be married in the State of California that is CIVIL. Therefore prop. 8 violates CIVIL RIGHTS of adults seeking to be married under state laws. Prop 8 was heavily lobbied by religious organizations…this blurred the lines between church and state!
Re: blasastter – Better get used to it baby! It will happen, lol. Supreme court will change it back again. Any you know why. Because it is right. We are all human beings who deserve the same rights
Breakage- While you are quick to tell gays to accept the little they get in this country because they will be hung in iran, hmm, you forgot to say that radical christisans should accept the total control they hold in this country, because in Iran you would be hung quite often.
jefdo.-You dont fight hate with passivity, you fight hate ,and prop 8 was all hate, with hate and with power, I guess people will either be on gay peoples side or against them. History wont be kind to the antigay folks. trust me on that. And for the hateful psychos who think their hate crusade will be rewarded by Jesus or anyone who judges good and kindness in the future, you must be on crack, because nothing has shown more hate then the antigay side in america today.
Perez, I have commented on a couple of your readers comments. I wanted to post to you specifically. This is YOUR site and you can post whatever you want so who cares what the haters say-you still get the hits! Personally, I have used the links you have provided to spead the information about Prop. 8 rallies, protests, etc. I just wrote to Scott Eckerd. I was an intern at Ca Music Circus prior to moving here to So Cal. For one to work so closely in the theatre with all the different personalities that are in the theatre community and to give money to such a hateful and bigoted proposition is bullshit! It just stinks!
Keep up the fight Perez!!! NO TO H8TE!!!!
Re: breakage – Wow, it just really never ceases to amaze me the ignorance and lack of knowledge. First of all, 10 to 20% of the population is gay, not 2%. Also no matter how much you fight and no matter how much money you waste, it will never stop what is coming. Young people overwhelmingly voted NO on 8 and the last time this was on the ballot it passed by 62%. This time it was only 52%. Does that tell you where this is going dumbshit or do I need to spell it out for you. You better pack your bags you fucktard. You and people like you with your ultra right wing evil facist views better hang on because your time ruling this country is just about coming to an end. LOL
I'm sorry, but it's his money and his opinion and personal beliefs. If you don't agree with them, you can't push your own beliefs on someone, just like you (Perez) would never tell someone they need to support Prop 8 because you do! I do like his ideas for being positive and helping change minds, but one thing definitely won't work: the argument about "God made me gay," because most religions believe you are born straight and become gay.
Re: knowitall –
your talking about hatred, and your talking down to "scummy minorites" typical fag behavior. You think the majority is on your side, its not. Everyone hates fags, except people who have to pretend to like them to either fit in or they have to work with them in hollywood
and by the way, this dumshit that wrote the email, get prepared to be sued for everything you got
Re: mattc101 –
according to the US Department of Health its 2.5% , you mongo cum guzzler. and I think ill take their word over your loose ass buddies any day
Time for a really good question: Since 70% of blacks voted against perez's new fixation, why isn't he slamming them? 'Means nothing to cry and stomp your feet if you're too cowardly to speak out against the real reason behind the failure. No? There's an elephant in the room, but it isn't pink Mario…
think what the typical redneck republican trailer trash in here doesnt get is that if you vote to take rights away from gay people for whatever bs reason you come up with, you're not going to be rewarded with their business or love.Re: knowitall –
Take away votes from gay people? WTF are you talking about. They got to vote on this and they LOST… AGAIN. Now they don't like the outcome so they want to use the "backdoor" again. Just who is trying to take who's vote away here?
Re: Cottonquinn – The hate and irrational logic in here is astounding. I feel so sorry for the children of people like you
Re: Miss McGillicutty – You are wrong, THERE IS something we can do, like boycotting this man's plays, Im a lover of musical theatre, I won't be going to any of his plays as I am sure many other people won't. So there.
Re: GAYSAREHATERS – Being brought up in the LDS church myself, I feel I have some of those, "Facts" your asking for. You can word it anyway you want, " People gave their money to support Prop 8, not the church, get the facts"(is what you said). The bottom line, church and state have been meshed together long enough, and one dollar coming from a church organization to help support a cause political in nature is too much spent!! And illegal. Here is a fact for you…As a former LDS member, we ARE asked to vote certain ways, and members are being STRONGLY urged to give money to yes on prop 8 campaign and VOTE yes on prop 8…so even if the church itself only gives 2,000 or one dollar, they are still spreading lies, ( see commercial campaign to promote prop
discrimination, judgment and shame…And this goes for ALL religions that played a part in this profoundly disturbing outcome of prop 8…This from a STRAIGHT Former Mormon, BTW…. I am SO OVER Certain religious groups ( Catholic, Mormon to name two) ALWAYS talking about "LOVE"…"Love of Jesus, love of God, Love thy neighbor", blah, blah, blah, coming from those establishments, that word means nothing to me anymore, because it is the last thing I see being done in ACTION or FEELING…It simply is a word they say and the meaning is empty and cold…..LONG LIVE LOVE!!!! NO ON 8!!!!!
Re: MOMMIE DEAREST – I wonder if you realize how completely stupid you sound? Are you saying the "WORLD" should do EVERYTHING the bible says??? REALLY, the whole world…Come on, get an education and then maybe you will grow your OWN MIND, and say something of your own, not this over used quote, that I doubt you could find on your own, in that bible all Christians are so fond of thumping.
Re: boston – "Wrong" that is a relative term, don't you think?
Please indulge us with your enlightening commentary as to why it would be wrong….MR. BOSTON….What are YOU afraid of? Or was it something your bible said?…Now go and get it….hopefully someone told you what page the passage is on because it is a very BIG book and hard to understand all those really big words.
Re: Hmmmm – Oh,… a sore Republican loser….Hee, hee …..
Well Golly Gee, you might feel better if you start quotin the bible like all ya'll, and rejoicin that the gays didn win human rights!…. Coors light is on sale @ the piggly wiggly get on down while it lasts, oh, and don't furgit to buy a gun, cause you don know what Obamanation might do.
Re: mattc101 –
I feel sorry for many a sinner, myself included, but I am not about to buy into the gay mafia's politically correct bullshit about the unhealthy lifestyle of homosexuals who are trying to hijack traditional marriage. Gays could have civil unions just like so many others who opt for it in order to protect their significant for the moment lover but nooooooo…they want "marriage".
Re: omgkatiekatiekatie – OMGKATIEKATIEKATIE…I LOVE YOU!!!
YOU ROCK!!!!
Re: Saint Joan –
Uhhhh fake christian…love the sinner hate the sin. You can still love gays but to allow them to redefine a concept that God made holy just because the sinful world wants to is ridiculous. You have turned on your faith and become part of the world. When you go before Christ will He even know you for anything other than just one more person in a sick and sinful world that sold out and became part of the world.
Re: Saint Joan –
And yet you claim you were once a Christian. If you really ever were you are now a sell out. Being a christian in this day and age means you are to be hated. Did not Christ say we would be killed for his sake? WE tell the truth, as Christians, and we are prepared that the truth will anger so many who have turned their ears, hearts, minds and eyes from the Lord. That is what we are called to do. We are still responsible for spreading the truth no matter how unpopular and politically incorrect it is.
Re: Saint Joan –
Are you still claiming to be a christian then, liar?
Re: Saint Joan –
LIAR. FAKE. PHONY.
Re: breakage – You are a foul human being….This is not just about Gay rights, this is about human rights, this is about love, companionship and a sense of equality. I am straight, I am a woman, I know what it feels like to be discriminated against…..Do you? If not, YOU are very fortunate indeed. And if you do know what it feels like, then SHAME on you for keeping the cycle going.
Re: Cottonquinn – What century are you from? You actually sound smart talking the most moronic dialog, how is that possible? Will everyone PLEASE stop talking about "The Bible"…Good LORD!!! First….Get a mind of your own, I know we are ALL about recycling now, but this is breeding stupidity into 2008, shouldn't we be more advanced, spiritually, emotionally? After all, look at the amazing advancement of technology, medicine etc. yet you and your kind want to hold onto a book partially written Thousands of years ago, proven to have been changed and rewritten Depending on who was in power at the time. Your argument is an empty vessel.

Doesn't smell like self hating homo here? He loves theater, yet he is apparently straight.
Re: Cottonquinn – ALL I am is a human being, trying to live in this harsh world the best way I can. We do all have different opinions, different idea's, ideals, hopes, dreams and fears. But the one thing we all need, want and seek is LOVE… I have broken off from groups ( not just Christianity) that I feel are unjust, manipulative and controlling, those qualities I do not want in a group ( especially one I turn to for spiritual comfort and guidance) or in a relationship with other people. I have no fear of what awaits me when i leave this life, I am trusting it will be better, that wherever we go pulls off easily what we mortals couldn't seem to do…Tolerate, love and forgive….And if I am wrong, I will deal with it then. Peace and love!
Re: Millie05 – Almost 10,000,000 people voted Tuesday November 4th….Prop 8 passed by approx. 400,000 votes….Not a lot is it? Makes one wonder does it not? You contradicted yourself almost from the starting gate (so to speak), perhaps you will want to re-read what you wrote and ask yourself once again if you are indeed against discrimination….? FYI, whenever someone has a point they want to make and then slip up that bad in the beginning, it's hard for the rest not to fall on deaf ears.
Re: lili808 – Thank you for what you are saying…..Peace and Love!
Re: gonzo617 – Are you in Prison? It looks like it…Convicted felons lost their right to vote, did they not? And you know what they say about people who don't vote…..:)
Re: straighticketvoter – A Born again christian using a term like" taking it up the ass"! Interesting……You know, MOST "born again Christians" have the most terrifying closets full of a debauchery, foul and wickedly unspeakable things….Is that your story too? I can't comment on the rest of your rant because it doesn't make sense.
Re: Pwn3d! – I feel sorry for you…
Re: venuspower – Thank you……Your "Nickname" suits you.
Just sent the badass an mail…
I dont think anyone should judge someone else on their opinion. That is not right or fair. Are we not all looking for everyone to be treated equal? If someone does not personally hate/ dislike you, who are u to judge them on their belief? I dont think that Shaiman did anything right I find it sad and low that he would do that. It shows his character!!!!
Wow! I support gay marriage, but this is a witch hunt. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and singling people out and refusing to do future business with them based on this contraversial issue… You guys, only half of California supports you, not even!! You should be ashamed of yourselves for attacking this man!!
Re: Sgirl –
And Jesus' message was one of love and inclusion….yours is the OPPOSITE of that!
Sadly, you couldn't be further from Jesus if you tried-go spread more hate cuz you're so GOOD at it!
Poor misguided soul-I pity you!
Re: Saint Joan –
Out of the two of you, I'd definitely belive you were Christian compared to this nimwit. Thatnks for an enlightening message! I'm sorry religion has been poisoned for you, but if it makes a difference I belive you are spot on!
Have a wonderful day.
Cottonquinn-go deal with your shameful dirty desires-your self loathing homo tendencies are making you sound like a very angry person. Jesus=love and your messages are the OPPOSITE of that-good luck explaining that to him…
And Jesus' message was one of love and inclusion….yours is the OPPOSITE of that!

I'm angered alright. Angered that amoral slimebucketrons like you are trying to completely hijack our culture. Secular hedonists like you have done enough damage to this nation already. I'll not let my country completely slide into an immoral abyss without a fight. So just bring it, bitch. This planet is on it's last leg anyway, by God. Might as well go down sparring.
How could God make anyone gay. This is ridiculous. Gayness is an abomination to God. Get over it. It is an ABOMINATION to God. He does not make people gay. So this idiot is complete wrong and who cares if this theater never plays anymore of his productions he hasn't had any in 25 years.
Here's another thought: all of you gay people who have businesses that support straight weddings - STOP! It will be tough to turn down business, but how can you take money from people who supported this measure and all the while promote the very institution that we are now blocked from. Tighten your belts and take a stand - say no to straight weddings. I personally will not attend or buy a gift for any wedding until everyone can marry under equal rights.
Christianity is the last bastion of bigotry. Christians used to also murder each other because they did not worship the same way. Now they just stick to murdering peoples souls. There's less blood that way and they still get to feel self-righteous.
OMG would you PLEASE stop typing in FUCKING CAPS. We can see what the fuck you are saying! I know you feel that what you are saying is important (even though most of you using caps hate gay people), but seriously it isn't that important. Therefore, please remove your fucking caps lock key or go over to some Conservapaedia forum and do your Kanye rant there.
Re: KrissyKat – The government should not regulate people's lives.
Re: KrissyKat – And you can get married in a court room, not a church…what's religious about that?
Since 70 some odd percent blacks voted for Prop 8, why don't you go protest at black churches? Get over it, you lost. It's in the constituition. Hopefully less kids will be indoctrinated now.
Please stop going on about Prop 8! Ok great cause but not the write place for it on a celeb gossip blog- especially for people reading who are not from America. Your site is getting boring!!!
Re: Nerdy_fat_ugly_girl – But what Mark Shaiman wants to do is "change minds." How is boycotting this man's theater going to change his mind? It might make him apologize just to get people to stop boycotting, but will his mind really be changed about what he believes? That is what Shaiman really wants - for gay people and gay marriage to be accepted. Boycotting and protesting alone won't get you that.
What a ridiculous statement. Talk about hate and anger. You are exactly why people would never vote for gay marriage. Look at all the hate you spew because you can't have you way. The tide is turning alright - against gays. While people may have been tolerant before - no more. Now that we see your true colors and it is even more reason to make sure the sanctity of marriage is not corrupted by sexual deviants such as yourself who are so hell bent on spreading hate. Sad, lonely or pathetic is not my world honey - it sounds like it is yours however. My world is filled with joy, you know why? Because I am a decent human being and because of that I was allowed to be married, I have a fabulous husband, fabulous children and life could not better. As for you, what do you have? A butt plug and another man in your bed? Do yo sit around doing vile, disgusting things to each other and then try to convince each other its okay? It is bigots like yourself that make this world a horrible place and you know what you better watch out because you and I both know you are going to end up with less rights than before Fag Boy!
Oh, Perez, so you didn't post my offer. That's ok, faggy, I will post it again. You disrespect non-gay readers of your blog, my dear, with these stupid posts. I'm so over you. I can't hear anymore about this stupid Proposition 8. MY PROPOSITION to all non-gay readers is to BOYCOTT your site for a while, so that you won't get as much advertising money as you do. We are a big part of your audience, remember???? Gays only won't make such a difference for you in terms $$$$$$. We'll see if you are going to be pushing this subject further.
*** How could someone who undoubtedly worked with people from the gay community on a daily basis actually support the hateful proposition? ***
Because, Perez….most people really don't care about people BEING gay. Hell, most people don't care about civil, legal, unions BETWEEN gays.
However, people seemingly don't want them to be "married".
If you gays would get that stick out of your ass over a word, and make it where you have full-rights civil unions (or whatever), people would support you more.
Now, you guys forced the word marriage. It won't stand up to a battle in court trying to compare it to black and white people getting married. Gay isn't a RACE you fool.
I want to marry my eight girl friends too. Can we make that legal????
he has 3 children… i hope they all turn out gay and hate him.
Re: Sgirl – hang on… we're TAUGHT to be gay? my mother practically disowned me, so it certainly wasn't her who TAUGHT me… and i must have been sick that day in school when they TAUGHT us how to be gay, because I don't remember it. And yet here I am, proud that I haven't been TAUGHT to hate people who aren't the same as everyone else, or TAUGHT that gay people are worth less than straight people, and shouldn't have the same basic rights.
I have a question…
If we are protecting the sanctity of marriage from gays because the bible says they are an aboniation shouldn't we also not allow anyone that is not christian? I mean according to the bible then all the muslims, jews, wiccans, and whatever else are sinners or whatever.
so lets get a proposition to ban every none christian from marriage also yeah?
makes sense to me
Re: NotQueerAtAll – Wrong number, idiot. And good luck with that, really.
Re: straighticketvoter – What about the straight pervs? It might be nice for you to stand up to all of them, then perhaps there would be less gays who care about who YOU marry. So NAMBLA are perverts (and I'm not arguing with you there, they absolutely are) but grown men who have sex with young girls just slip under the radar? What about father who rape their daughters? Don't put this on us, it's a two sided issue and unfortunately perversion exists in every corner, not just in ours.
breakage,= in your world, the uneducated welfare white trash and violent minorites im sure they do all hate gay people. I live in more upper middle class to affluent California, those people are educated and tolerant of gay people. sorry, get over your hate scumbag. Civil rights are for everyone, even those born gay.
Re: Cottonquinn –
I agree with you that the Earth and the solar system are winding down, but I pray we still have some time left to see equality for all passed into legislation in the greatest country in the world. if not for myself, then for my kids…
That aside, I do not think anyone's love is responsible for the destruction we witness today-it's hate that destroys, not love. You give Jesus lovin' a bad rep-you're the opposite of what I would consider a divine being-you choose to cover your divine light with hate instead of letting it shine. I pray for a peaceful resolution to the obvious war that's going on inside you. I don't "go down," but it's ok if you want to!
Have a lovely night!

You say that Yes on 8 supporters told lies in their campaign adds about the gay lifestyle being taught to children in schools…Proof is in Massachusetts the schools. Proof is in the San Francisco school field trips. Gay activists go on KFI radio and tell lies about the Mormon Church in SLC sending out thousands of missionaries to CA to push people to vote Yes on 8. That is such a blatant lie, and he knows it. Subhuman gays are creating web sites with the intent to target and attack Mormons an is evil act to it's core. They exercised their legal, ethical, and moral right to vote their opinion and so did the gays. Majority of CA want marriage to stay as a contract between man and woman only. So it was written. So it was done.

But now in stead of dealing with it in a civil manner, you go out and cry like babies walking the streets disrupting traffic, attacking businesses, physically harming fellow Americans and their property, and targeting their right to make a living to support themselves and their families. You single out a group of people, Mormons, when parishioners of many other churches voted YES. 7 out of 10 registered voters of the black community voted YES. People with moral family values of all groups voted YES.
We all had our opportunity to voice our opinion on Prop 8 prior to the election and on election day. As far as I could see, it was only those for prop 8 that cared enough to speak out, and they did it in a civil & respectful manner. Those against prop 8 chose to stay silent themselves and let those "high-society film and movie stars" and that disgusting bride of Satan Diane Finestine be the ones to voice their opinions with expensive commercial time. I wasn't impressed! You hid behind the big commercial Hollywood types while they did the talking thinking that you had the majority vote…Well, you were wrong. The Yes on 8 supporters did the walking, and they won the vote the American way.
