Prop 8 is a disgrace to America. People saying the voters spoke, shut the fuck up! If the south and the nation let the voters speak in the 50's and 60's people of different races would not be able to get married, sometimes the majority is wrong! And in this case they are, Prop 8 is the catalyst for the gay rights movement, I think in a few years if we keep this motivation up there could be legal gay marriage for the whole nation. The reason that they are homophobic is that they act out the fear (or realization) that they too are gay or have gay tendencies. What the hell happened to the separation of church & state??? Those who voted in favor of Prop 8 will admit this was a religious issue for them. YOU CAN'T LEGISLATE MORALITY!!! This decision should be contested and thrown out. Passing Prop 8 was the real abomination.
I would think that with law precedent, the marriages that were conducted legally would have to be grandfathered in. It's not like they can take their marriages away… but it won't be easy. If laws continue to be made that segregated committed heterosexuals from homosexuals, it can get dirty and it will definitely go to court. Once a grandfathered couple faces discrimination, it will be through the court system and I'm afraid it will end poorly. It will be interesting to see what Obama may say on the subject… may really hurt the beginning of his term.

OK. Gays have been murdered and tortured throughout history. Gays are subject to constant physical and verbal attacks. Gays are frequently victims of hate crimes. Not allowing gays to marry but to settle for civil unions is no different from the philosophy of separate but equal, which blacks know all too well isn't equal at all. If gays wore their sexuality more on their sleeve over the years, you would have seen people segregating them into different schools and facing many other moral indignities, however many of them lied and had to live a double lives. The same lies and arguments that denied people the right to interracial marriage are the ones being made now about same sex couples - that it's unnatural, that it'll destroy society, etc.
