so many people are arguing that they have always believed marriage to be between a man and a woman, and if that is what they chose to beleive, if they chose to not be progressive and accepting, fine, that is their right. but to say that someone else cant have the right to beleive differently is absurd. noone is telling them they need to have a same-sex marriage or that they even need to support it or believe in it, they simply need to allow other people an equal right to be who they want to be!

powerful, moving, wonderful. i completely agree. as a straight individual i have no individual investments in prop 8 and it's repercussions but how can you be a human being and support something that eliminates a right that should be automatic in this country. so sad that this is what people are scared into, thank goodness in about 10 years the youth of America will have it's true voice.

Jon Stewart had a good — though not neraly as moving — piece on Comedy Central, too… a "You want to know what's ironic" fact: over 60% of African -Americans voted for Prop 8. Stewart said something to the effect of "Yeah we're free!!.. no I am sorry you are NOT allowed to do that."

Olberman is the biggest joke on TV… I don't know how anyone takes that asshole seriously. As far as Prop 8 goes, it was voted on by the people of one of the most liberal states in the U S, if you can't get it passed there then that should tell you something right there. Like it or not, there are more people in California that prefer the traditional union of a man and a woman in marriage. Anywho, in most states, people that live together but are not married are not allowed insurance and stuff like married people are. So should we start allowing everyone to have access to things? Where does it end? Gays have gained plenty of rights over the years… for instance, a person can't be fired for being gay.. thats kind of a biggie I think as far as rights go.

He is brilliant. Some days I am disappointed in the people of my country and how ignorant and stupid they tend to be. I am not Christian, but I was once upon a time. It disappoints me greatly to see people hiding in fear behind religion and hate. Religion is a beautiful thing that shouldn't be used for intolerance. It should be used to spread love. May I remind people that would you come out and declare that you are different? Would you purposely take the hate and abuse, just for money or just as an act? Why? These people are like everyone else. They want to love and be loved.
And for those who keep saying that they are acting radical, may I remind you that there are radicals in every group. There are radical Christians, there are radical Muslims, radical Jews, radical Pagans, but you know what? Those people don't speak for the whole group.
I find it funny that many people, mostly men, are okay with lesbians, cause its hot. But God forbid that men should be able to do that same! People don't purposefully make themselves different. To all you haters out there, please remember this really isn't an issue about gay or straight. This issue is about denying civil rights to a class of people. Whether you're gay or not, this is something that threatens us all. This should never have been put up to vote in the first place. You shouldn't be able to deny civil rights to a minority based on popular vote.
I believe that gay people should have the right to marry and I'm a Republican. It was reported on the news that the same cultural groups (blacks and hispanics) who voted in numbers for Obama voted against Prop 8. I guess that wasn't the kind of change they wanted. I voted no on a similar proposition in Arizona and it passed here too.
