Some Mormons Resigning From The Church Following Passage Of Prop H8te

Filed under: Legal Matters > Politik

equal-rights.jpg

The protests and marches and rallies are making a difference!

Never before has a group of people responded so strongly and so immediately to injustice. The efforts of the Anti-Prop 8 movement are beginning to prove to people how important this civil rights issue is, and that Prop 8 is not only a blow to gay rights, but a blow to everyone's rights.

Following nationwide protests outside Mormon churches, members of the church or Latter-day Saints (LDS) are resigning from the Church in hundreds.

Linda Stay from St. George is in the process of leaving LDS because the Church preaches against the gay marriage that her own son, Tyler, is in.

Andrew Callahan, an LDS member and prominent Anti-Prop 8 activist, runs a website intended to educate people and now, to assist with the resignation process. He remains part of the Church, though his family does not, because he was asked to resign and refuses to let them "feel they got what they wanted."

But he says he has heard from hundreds of people leaving the Church following the passage of Prop 8 and the ensuing demonstrations and marches that flooded the streets all over the country. He recounts the story of one "heartbroken" woman from California who "doesn't want to be associated with the bigotry and she doesn't want, in any way, to be responsible for teaching the young children to be bigots."

Callahan admits that many of these people may have left the Church anyway, but that since Prop 8 reared its ugly head and protesters gathered outside the Salt Lake City Temple on Friday, more than 200 members have made their resignation clear.

Discrimination is discrimination.

Jewish group wants Mormons to stop proxy baptisms

Holocaust survivors said Monday they are through trying to negotiate with the Mormon church over posthumous baptisms of Jews killed in Nazi concentration camps, saying the church has repeatedly violated a 13-year-old agreement barring the practice.
"We ask you to respect us and our Judaism just as we respect your religion," Michel said in a statement released ahead of the news conference. "We ask you to leave our six million Jews, all victims of the Holocaust, alone, they suffered enough."
Posthumous baptism by proxy allows faithful Mormons to have their ancestors baptized into the 178-year-old church, which they believe reunites families in the afterlife.

Fags should be smoked: I can't help but notice that you're obsessed with this issue. You might want to give some that some thought. Why do you care so much? We queers have a theory about the biggest homophobes - some of us have even been them.

  3. 103

Personally had I lived in Cal, I would have voted No….. BUT… Perez you're only interested in TRUTH when it makes your causes look good… What about these stats>>>
Mormons make up less than 2% of the population of California. There are approximately 800,000 LDS out of a total population of approximately 34 million.

Mormon voters were less than 5% of the yes vote. If one estimates that 250,000 LDS are registered voters (the rest being children), then LDS voters made up 4.6% of the Yes vote and 2.4% of the total Proposition 8 vote.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) donated no money to the Yes on 8 campaign. Individual members of the Church were encouraged to support the Yes on 8 efforts and, exercising their constitutional right to free speech, donated whatever they felt like donating.

The No on 8 campaign raised more money than the Yes on 8 campaign. Unofficial estimates put No on 8 at $38 million and Yes on 8 at $32 million, making it the most expensive non-presidential election in the country.

But probably we won't have any posts about the Catholics, Jews, or Born Agains who voted Yes, Eh?

  4. 104

What? They didn't know the Church spoke out against homosexuality before this? Are they sure they were attending an LDS church?

  5. 105

WTF….so Cali is the new Utah? Are you telling us that mormons control Cali voting system? You all for propaganda as long as it is in favor of your views…you all for hate unless it is directed at you sexual orientation…you all for discrimination unless the target is someone you hate….you are a biggot and a hypocrite. No, I do not like the Mormon's views on almost all of the social standards in our country…however, I refuse to hate a group of people because they are not supportive of your sexual orientation and lifestyle…..THAT IS DISCRIMINATION AT ITS WORST!!

Re: Julian Day – I understand your anger and as you can see I'm equally angry about this subject, but lashing out at small-minded people only makes them feel more justified and righteous in their small-mindedness. I'm not saying kill them with kindness, but if you are trying to change people minds don't sink to their level to do it.

  7. 107

This is a LEGAL issue, not a RELIGOUS OR MORAL issue. Gay people pay taxes, right? Straight people pay taxes too. Why as a Gay man am I not allowed the same LEGAL and CIVIL rights as a straight man? I dont care about what religion you follow, congratulations! I can honestly care less how morally bankrupt the religous right thinks I am. I want the SAME rights as any other US Citizen. Taxation without representation is illegal, as far as Im aware. Gay isnt going away, gays are born everyday. Time will tell, we actually have an African American president so in time we will get whats rightfully ours.

  8. 108

Two people love each other, one supports the other financially, they already are having sex, living together, they want to visit each other in the hospital, leave stuff to each other in wills, provide health care to each other, be accepted by society even though their love isn't acceptable to all, and here's the kicker - get married! Why should they be forbidden? No, I'm not talking about gays. I'm talking about father and daughter. Mother and son. Brother and sister. But if you say all those same arguments apply to gay marriage too, then inter-family marriage will have to be allowed under the same law. You can't discriminate against one and not the other. And don't try to give the argument that it's gross, won't produce good offspring, or that it's illegal, because all of those can be used against gay people too (yes, some states still have laws against gay sex).

  9. 109

Re: Julian Day – What is weird is the scream for acceptance then the blatant hateful remarks in which you seperate yourselves from "straight people"….good job, ifiot. Fine demonstration of the hypocritical liberal. Take take take……always wanting more catering. The govt. will evolve with the progression of civilization, that does not always mean demoralization of civilization. As we have been substanially desensitized, due to the liberal hand on every form of media in this country, the core values that most of us know still have a huge influence on our decisions….ESPECIALLY, in the voting booth. If that disagrees with you own views….well, that is democracy. You don't like it, please move…..please take the hate and constant pity partying all over the country somewhere else; as, it is to no avail but to step backwards in your attempt at equality. RESPECT OTHERS OPINIONS AND VIEWS THE SAME WAY YOU WANT IT……GET IT…..

    110

The one thing I don't understand is why people are protesting the Mormon churches, but not protesting other churches that had just as much of a say.

  11. 111

This country is not a democracy, its a constitutional republic, which means the rights of minorities are protected and can't be voted out of existence. That's where "inalienable rights" comes in. See also, pursuit of happiness. The pursuit of happiness shouldn't be impeded unless it has a serious impact on the well being of others. That's where "Your right to swing your fist stops just before my nose" comes in.

Thomas Jefferson said, "It matters not whether my neighbor worships one God or twenty; it neither breaks my leg or picks my pocket". If a gay person says that marriage to a partner is part of loving god's perfect plan for their life, who are you to say they're wrong? On religious grounds neither you or the government has any grounds judge one religious rite more valid than other. And if you look at marriage as a civil contract, again religion has no say, and the government has no particular reason to deny it to some American citizens and not to others.

Freedom of religion, the law of civil contracts, and the principals protecting the unpopular people in this country were established along time ago. The matter should never have been put to vote. It was a betrayal of fundamental American values.

mccarthy-ism has returned and the left is using it to violate the rights of people who choose to vote or donate to a cause they believe in. the fact that the gay community is publishing lists with the names and occupations of people who voted/donated a certain way is just as discriminating as being discriminated against for being gay. they are being big hypocrites. america is a free country, and a person's vote deserves to be kept private. shame on the gays for doing exactly what they've been whining about people do to them.

  13. 113

Re: robb118 – SO, YOU WANT TO "GET MARRIED" FOR TAX PURPOSES? Why not for a green card….yes, it is the same invalid and absurd situation. If a same sex couple has a registered domestic partnership they can file jointly, yes…even in California. If that is why you want to alter the definition of marriage in our country…..don't bother. Use that mopney you were saving to fly out to Utah and piss on the Temple, and register you and your partner. Put on a ring, go to your churhc….or where ever you want and have it presented by whatever pastor or whoever you want. I am soryy if you feel less than equal and don't feel lik eyou are appreciated as a citizen; but, in order to give you what you want, the majority of the people would have to forget what they want….just so you can justify your lifestyle and get an ego boost, give a slap in the face to whoever it is you have a grudge against.

  14. 114

Re: Jaded – You are 110% right, no one religion should be singled out. They are all equally hipocritical. I grew up catholic and they are the absolute worst by far. I dont pretend to know much about the mormons, but that doesnt really stop them from judging me. Its obvious that most people do not want to understand what gay is. Gay isnt a choice, it isnt a lifestyle, its who some people are.

  15. 115

WOW Let me see the bible says gay activity is wrong and when People say I dont want this we hate people??? I guess you cant have a church preach that it is wrong and yet indorse Gay marriage

  16. 116

Ha ha ha! Leaving by the hundreds?!! Where did you get your numbers from, Perez? If any are leaving the church, they probably already had a foot out the door anyway. Good riddance. Seriously, perez, you crack me up. Ooooh, look how much influence you have, Mormons are leaving the Church by the hundreds because of your little protests!

  17. 117

This whole "religion and marriage" thing baffles me. If marriage were a strictly religious issue, you wouldn't have secular laws about it. People, marriage is a societal convention, not a religious one. Grow up and get the fuck out of my government!!!!!

  18. 118

Re: kiiki – I totally agree kiiki. This type of witch hunt is shameful and against everything America stands for. I hope this comes back to bite them in the a**

  19. 119

I am mormon and my ex husband is gay (of course I didn't know when we were married). I know what I was taught to believe that marriage is between a man and a woman, but I know that my ex is happy in his relationship and deserves the same rights I have. I am not to judge! He had his name removed from the records of the church and it was a very long process to "resign". It is not something that can be done quickly and without lengthy communication with the leaders of the church.

  20. 120

Why are you sore losers. The people voted and this is (at least until nobama gets into office) a democracy. The majority spoke and the majority doesn't want the gays to legally marry. To Bad so sad GET OVER IT

  21. 121

Re: Seriously – Your screename should be SERIOUSLY STUPID or SERIOUSLY IGNORANT. I want the same rights ALL STRAIGHT people enjoy. I dont care about your religous beliefs because my point is religion has nothing to do with peoples civil rights. Yeah, I should be able to get married and enjoy all the same benefits that marriage brings, but more importantly I should be able to express my love of someone without you religous HYPOCRITS judging me. DO NOT preach to me how sacred marriage is in a world where divorce is now the norm and where people are on their 3rd or 4th spouse. Straight people pretty much totaled the "sanctity" of marriage by abusing the privilege. So SERIOUSLY GET A LIFE, and let others live theirs!

  23. 123

Re: ickymuffin – The constitution protects our rights as a practicing democracy….majority rules here…..even when it comes to altering the constitution. What we are saying is that while you are happy with your lifestyle and see nothing wrong with it….plenty of people do. This is nothing new, you nave heard this many times before, as it always has been. You came to terms with your personal desires and feel them acceptable, especially in large numbers; however, the majority of the people in our country disagree. This is nothing new, as it always has been. You scream for conformity, and some has been give…but, it is not enough, you want it all, you demand it all, and demand it NOW. It is not going to happen, not NOW.

  24. 124

You can say all you want about religious freedom and discrimination; but, God does not endorse the gay lifestyle, and that is where your argument slips away. Say your denial of religious marriage is religious persecution by the state…it is God that fails to endorse your marriage. See how your argument has no validity. Read the Bible, while God is forgiving…always open to spreading his love, homosexuality is harshly condemned. To accept and support this type of marriage would definetly cause serious impact on the well being of others, the majority of others…..in many ways. ie. Spiritually, Morally and Parentally. This wipes out your "pursuit of happiness" argument. It was not meant for the pursuit of one individuals happiness, it was meant for the entire country. To apply the constition to each individual is selfish….we are a united country, the constitution was meant for our country as a whole. Thus, with the democracy…voting decided the path of the majority and keeps us in the pursuit of happiness.

  25. 125

    Re: Seriously – SERIOUSLY CRAZY.

  26. 126

STOP THE HATE, NO ON PROP 8!!!!!

  27. 127

The LDS church did not contribute any money to the Prop 8 campaign. This all boils down to one thing: moral relativism. Either you believe that right and wrong is determined by either a majority or minority consensus, or you believe that the scriptures are true and there are very real rules and consequences. Never the two shall meet. This is going to be a very long and drawn out fight that isn't going to end until the world ends.

  28. 128

Re: robb118 – There you go again Mr. "ALL STRAIGHT PEOPLE"…ignorant and hypocritical….lol. I've told you what to do to get the "tax breaks" you want. You can get the civil union, domestic partnership, file jointly….whatever….but no, that is not what you want. That is not enough. Is it keepin gyou from feeling socially accepted? Well, apparently the majority doesn't appect it as a valid marriage, so call it what you want. Even if you aren't religious, marriage is what it is. It was originated for the sole purpose of procreation…another thing homosexual couples cannot do (without the assistance of science and eggs or jizz of a willing participant). We can go back and forth all day, what it comes down to is that hate for everyone that did't vote your way is HATE TOO!

But if you don't support them then don't be a hypocrite. No more movies for you, no more fashion for you, no more art, no more music, for gosh sakes get off of this website the owner is one. Those "homewrecking" gays should no longer pay any taxes because they aren't "real people" (although with the amount of extremely wealthy gay people in the US it would probably by a big tax hit for the government). Don't use your American Express or shop at Target, because they give to gay charities. Definitely no more Starbucks, Coffee Bean, Trader Joe's after all they treat them like everyone else.
And above all spend as much of your time researching which companies to boycott, and you do worry about what's going on in someone else's home.

  33. 133

Re: Seriously – Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the reason Prop8 was *voted* on (despite gays' objections that their civil-rights shouldn't be voted on) was because a democratic vote is REQUIRED whenever there is to be any change or amendment to a law.Is this not right? As I see it, laws cannot be re-written,changed, added, or invalidated, without a majority vote from the people.Correct? I think this is the reason Prop8 was voted on in the first place(as opposed to just being passed or not passed).

  36. 136

Re: Seriously – I cant argue with someone quoting the bible as if it were actually written by God. The bible is book that was written by a man, not God. Do you also believ we were "created"? I cant stop you from twisting everything around that people are saying. You keep insisting that this is a religous issue when its not. Not all religions agree on the same things and not all religions pray to the same God. Does that negate their beliefs? Absolutely not. So stop channeling Jerry Falwell and leave people alone. As far as hate goes, I dont care how you live your life and you shouldnt care how I live mine. I dont care if your Muslim, Catholic, Jewish, Mormon or an atheist. Its irreleveant to the rights of otheres. Live your life and Ill live mine.

But if you have ever put anything before God (this includes the cash god), didn't keep the Sabbath holy (ever work on a Sunday), commit adultery (and you should really read what adultery means in the Bible… porn, looking at others in a lustful way, thinking of others other than your spouse I won't go on), stolen (again check the Bible that one's is a very thin line), bore false witness (never lied huh?), or coveted (never wanted something some else had?), where do you get the right to judge other people.

Re: Seriously – Since you are quote the Bible allow me the same latitude:
I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev 19:27. How should they die?
Lev 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help.
Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

  40. 140

Re: robb118 – For one thing, I did not quote the Bible, and yes, the Bible is the breath….the life of God. My point is, do not throw your religious persecution argument at me……or any other Christian. If you want your union to be acknowledged by whatever church you are a part of, it is that church's decision, it is that church's freedom. This has nothing to do with the government, it is the freedom of that church's views of a same-sex union is that of the church. It seems you are trying, to no avail, to combine the two. Many that voted have based their decision on their moral and/or religious system, yes. But, the idea that the government is run by the church is silly, and a sad excuse. To ask Christians to leave God out of their minds at the ballot box is just plain wrong. I can see that you do not get it. For most Chrisitans, we strive to live as God sees fit. Sure we are not perfect, and of course homosexuality is a part of our society….I love and have many gay friends and even a few family members. Just because my belief system prevents me from spiritually accepting and condoning the lifestyle, I am compassionate to their needs and feelings. I do also expect the same compassion for my own, if you cannot offer what you demand…well, therein lies your hypocrisy.

Re: Seriously – I do not want to gert married in ANY church. Let it go.

  42. 142

Re: Jaded – I did not quote the Bible…I made a statement, of my own accord. lol However, if you want to make it about religion and sty to deman or degrade the Bible…..that is your choice. Much of its text applied to a different time, you referred many times to the Word God blessed Moses with and shared with the Israelites. Laws that they should follow to maintain order in a time of disorder and strife, as they escaped Egypt. Many laws you did not read in their entirity and that do not apply to everyone, as that slave reference was in reference to a practice the servants did with their daughters and was not in refernce to actual slavery, but to matrmonial promise. This is something not everyone does, and those that did, God provided his acceptable measures.

    Read it all, please….

Re: Seriously – Your view of love is very sad. "You have friends and family member that are gay that you love"? But you would deny them rights? No one is forcing church officials to perform marriage ceremonies. They are only asking for the same rights according to the letter of the law that people seem to flagrantly throw away (i.e., multiple divorces). And you did throw the Bible at us with your views I notice how you had no comment when the writing teach things that are no longer viable like slavery, haircutting, working on the Sabbath, football (Lev 11:6-8 says touching the skin of a dead pig a big no-no). What no witty and biting remark to those? You know what else I think is funny? That you assume because I am willing to fight for the rights of gay I have to be gay. Were blacks the only ones that fought for their rights? Were women the only ones who fought for the right to vote. Do you think that there are only STRAIGHT people fighting for your freedoms in the military? Better check your books sweety.

  45. 145

Re: Pogue Mahone – Yeah just like when they decided to allow blacks marry whites, they voted for the change in law…..you are a dumbass. Our civil rights are not up to a vote. This is wrong and it will be proven to be wrong and all the money spent to try to make the gays go back into the closet will be a total waste.

  46. 146

OMG -get a grip people. The LDS Church did NOT using tithing money for Prop 8; individual members contributed their own time and resources -just as the gay community did and had the right to do.

And what's with Perez spreading the hate and targeting another minority group: in this case, Mormons who voted for Prop 8? Nevermind the fact that 70% of voters for the proposition were of African American decent (doesn't sound very Mormon to me). And nevermind the fact that it was the Catholic Church that raised the rallying cry for Prop 8 and drove the initiative.

Grow a pair Perez and act like a man.

  47. 147

Re: Jaded – lol…I love them and that does not mean I will change my views for them….are they willing to change their views for me, ….I think not. They are none the worse for it. You say you do not love friends and family if they don't vote with you? What about the other way, how can you feel like that and not expect them to approach you with the same feeling? That is so sad…..

  48. 148

Re: lovernotahater – It's not about civil-rights; it's about amending a law, which requires a democratic VOTE in order to repeal, change, add, or invalidate a law. It's not just "done"; it has to be voted upon to make any alterations to it.The majority have to vote in order for a law to be changed. That's just the way it is; it's not a personal attack on the gay community.Just because the gay community has "spoken" isn't enough to enact a law.One special-interest group alone can't change a written law; it HAS to be voted on.

  49. 149

Re: Jaded – Like I said, if you are going to pull out the teachings of the Bible, you must do so in it's full context. If you refuse to look at your entire Book and read each chapter, and each scripture…as it was meant to be read, in its full context, then you have no base for discussion. As your statements prove you do not understand the context of the verses you refer to…The Bible does not change, but its interpretation does vary…with religions as well as time. Some view certain texts differently, and many view certain texts as applying only to a specific group…as the texts you refer to. They were given to people in a time prior to Jesus, to a people, the Israelites that were struggling with sin and temptation. They had to sacrifice for their own sins, they had to live according to much less sterile conditions. Their rules and laws were different. Some still live sacrifically, as they have not accepted Christ as their savior….anyhow, beastiality and homosexuality were condemned as detestable, throughout the Bible…to all….this was not a condition of sacrifice, it was and is still considered to be a perversion, by the vast majority. I am sorry if that hurts you, but it is the way I feel. As it supposedly is for many homosexuals, it is not my choice…it is the way I was born….the way I always knew to be right and natural.

My brother is married to a white woman (something that has only been legal since 1968) and I feel he has no right to tell someone else who they should be allowed to marry. Especially, since that right has barely been granted to him.

  51. 151

So because I choose not to support gay people in marriage I hate people? Not So!!!! I am of Christian belief and I choose to rely on my bible. I choose not to bring my children up believing that the bible says it is okay to be gay. I dont hate people that are, just like I dont hate people who break the biblical laws. I have a say in this law being passed just like many of you. and We won that doesn't mean we hate people, And for this wedsite to say that we do is wrong. Had the vote went the other way would you not have said GETOVER IT? yes you would have you would have said the vote was counted and this is the end. So be quiet and move on.

Re: Seriously – Again you have missed the point entirely. I'm not gay I'm fighting for the rights of other people. But i love how you, as many other will dismiss one thing from the Bible, but hold on with dear life to another.

One thing that may interest you, though. homosexuality is not really condemned in the Old Testament. the verse of which you twisted in Leviticus contextually references ceremonial uncleanliness. the Hebrew word used indicates this. given the words and the context, it most likely condemns group sexual relations as that of the Canaanite fertility religions. it is only presupposition that leads translators to give their anti-homosexual spin on the verse.
But I'm not trying to change your beliefs I'm only saying that if we are serperting church and state then how can we vote to take rights away from people according to "God's laws". That would be as wrong as me coming over and killing you because you cut your hair and saying well the Bible said it was a death sentence offense.

Secondly living in los angeles I now have had a little run in with the mormons and i belive they are scary and cultish and mean spirited, and they do it in a wholesome way,but its scary., Trust me gay people mormons ,republicans and the ghetto faction of blacks are not your friends, its a sad reality, but its a reality, dont spend money or support any legislation that helps theses groups in any way.

  55. 155

sgirls-you sound like confedrerate trailer trash, whatever that disgusting flag you have in your avatar, and Im not sure what a lowlife like you is doing on a gay mans site when you clearly have such hate for gay people. Get help and go on the neo nazi kkk sites, they speak your language cunt. THE REPUBLICANS PARTY AND MORMONS ARE THE REASON FOR PROP 8 ,oh and the uneducated ghetto blacks.

  56. 156

We can all do our part. When these idiots knock on your door to try to convert you, shoo them away! I know I will! :-)

  57. 157

Tithing did NOT go toward this because this proposition was in NO way funded by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Church leaders did not start the support, church MEMBERS did who spent their own money as a result.

Perez…stop hating on the LDS church for having the balls to speak out loud about their moral beliefs. Stop spreading hate and discrimination one one facet of the population when many individuals connected to other religions also supported Proposition 8

  58. 158

    evanka-fck your evil mormon cult.

  59. 159

Seriously ,you are whats wrong with this country .

  60. 160

idk what if we pointed out every gay and made them the laughing stock then see if they wouldn't try to hide from all of it!

  61. 161

So since I have the 'right' to get high, why is the gblt community doing anything to help me?
And what if I want to marry my girlfriend and her best friend, how come that's not allowed? is that my 'right'?

  62. 162

i wish that Perez would stop focusing on religious issues. Just because there are a lot of gays involved in this blog doesn't mean that it should be so one liberal and one sided. If this page is going to constantly post anti-mormon 'stories' (propaganda) it should at least include anti-Presbyterians, Jews, or even Catholics. Being biased is even worse than being bloggers.

  63. 163

popcuturesucks, Why dont you have your own blog dedicated to like minded people, bigots, fascists, radical fundamentalists and uneducated minorites. IF you like Perez let him run his blog the way he wants he doesnt need tips from homophobic trash.

  64. 164

knowitall, can you make your point in any other way than calling people names?

  65. 165

I find it ironic that the very people who are calling Mormons bigots and haters are displaying the worst kind of hateful and bigotted behavior!
    *
But of course, nobody's calling them on it because they're the "victim." It would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic.

  66. 166

Re: FAGS SHOULD BE SMOKED! – And you're a moron if you honestly thought that the double entendre in your name would be overlooked by people with an IQ higher than room temperature . . .

  67. 167

Re: STFUP – Well your IQ obviously matches your chest size . . . the name is a deliberate attack on gays. Despite whatever that idiot comes back with - that was the intention all along.

  68. 168

why are you just attacking the LDS church!? its ridiculous!! many other churches have supported the ban on gay marriage. its something they believe in. I am a member of the church of latter-day saints and there is nothing wrong with me or anyone else in my church voicing our opinions! you gays are so hypocritical. you say we judge you by not being fully open to your idea of "marriage." to me, marriage is a sacred bond between a MAN and a WOMAN! thats the only way its meant to be. end of story. i couldnt care less if you are in "love" with the same sex. i really dont care if you get married. but stop making such a big deal out of it. you people can still be together. marriage or not. were not stopping that. we are trying to keep things sacred! you people obviously know nothing about that. our church doesn't hate you people at all. we are taught to love everyone, even our enemies. we hate what you are doing, thats all. in closing, STOP blaming my church. its wrong.

  69. 169

and my church is NOT a cult. how about you idiots try doing some research. duh y'all are dumb!

Re: Julian Day – Bravo bravo bravo

    171

Re: robb118 – Sorry, I have all my teeth, live in a beautiful home and ignorance isn't bliss but my life is - you know why? Because unlike the homos I am married and have my very own natural children who did not have to come from a donor and am lovin life. Life is sweet!!!

  72. Sgirl says – reply to this

    172

Re: knowitall – Sounds like words spoken from a true confedrerate trailer trash person such as you knowitall. You're just spreading love aren't you? Yeah, its the mormons who are evil, riiiiigt. What a fool. Homosexuals choose their lifestyle and then complain about it. It cracks me up to read all the ridiculous comments by people such as yourself. Do you honestly think you're doing any good? How could such a h8ter like you help to positively influence anything? If you read your comments on this site they are full of h8te for anyone speaking their mind. So what is it you are fighting for again? The right to spew as much h8te as possible? Very intelligent!! Way to get people on your side. I love it!!!

  73. 173

HA. Good. I'm so unhappy about prop h8te being passed, and I'm not even gay. I just think it's unfair, unjust, and ridiculous that in this day and age people are still so bigoted. (BTW, I copied this article and made it a blog on MySpace, I found it so good. Thought I'd let you know. ;-) ) Besides, in my experience with Mormons, it's a CULT, NOT a religon.

  74. 174

These groups of gays are a public nuisance. They are intolerant thugs that put all of their self worth into who they are sleeping with. This is a blatant attack on a religion in America and it is "ok" because of our country's backward view on equality. I do not think their protesting is working to prove that gay people should be able to marry. What it is showing is that gay people a "brats" and are throwing a fit because they did not get what they wanted.

  75. 175

Shasta redneck= LIsten to our repubican Gov,he says we should have gay marriage and that the ca supreme court will over-turn this bare majority hate filled measure. Do the freedom hating conservative trash hate people marching now too.you really hate western freedoms, dont you .

  76. 176

Why don't all the rasclaat batty-boys all go back into the closet where they came from? The rest of us are tired of having their depravity shoved down our throats! Yes to Prop8!!!

  77. 177

Re: knowitall – sorry if I offended you, Perez or anyone else in any way. it wasn't my intention.

  78. 178

    Re: Jaded

    Jaded, you are a dumbass……..

you don't undestand the cultural background of the times teh jews lived in when Torah was written nor do you understand to whom those laws were given,

First, the Noahide laws were given for all humanity t hru which many of the ancient laws were based on…

THe jews were called out of a pagan society, Egypt and they brought alot of pagan understanding so many times, a law was stated for the express purpose of combatting the issues they specifically had. First off, the main rule of the bible is to Love God and that same love is to be expressed to your neighbor and that doesn't mean exchanging the natural law of man woman for homosexual, the behavior is a deviancy of nature.

  79. 179

Slavery, as it was lawful and moral is NOT what slavery was in the last 300 years. The form of slavery that was fine is not any different than your selling your soul to the bank for a mortgage. Today, you work, put food on the table and any extra pays the bills and your mortgage. Slavery in the bible was teh same. You were owned by your master in the same way the bank owns you NOW! Your master fed you, took care of you and was supposed to morally be obligated to tend to your needs. In exchange, ever 50 years, all slaves were released and all land given back. See, the jews owned the land and if they sold it, it was a lease that ended on the 50th year of a particular cycle. So loans were made based on assets, human labor, (slavery) or land that the person would lease out.

  80. 180

They obviously didn't care to much religion if one tiny thing could make them leave it. That makes me pretty sick.

  81. 181

Re: karencarpenter – No they don't. I'm mormon, I'm sixteen and WOW not married to a 40 year old guy. I don't EVEN have a boyfriend or an arranged marriage and I have NOTHING against gay people. I love Ellen and Perez and I'm sure there are lots of other cool gay people out there too. But I am NOT okay with people talking bad about my church either…and I realize you weren't trying to spread hate…so thank you.

  82. 182

good for them, i love that flag to.

  83. 183

  84. 184

Re: kiana – saying that ppl should just accept the vote is tyranny of the marjority on the minority, you fuckin' moron, its right from the mouth of James Madison you fuckin' tard. look it up if you even know how, idiot. 8 = Hate.

  85. 185

the mormons are getting it bad cause they are hypocrites. they look the other way when polygamists marry off child brides in Utah, Colorado, Texas, etc. Do you see mormon money going to fight that? No. But when 2 queers want to get married, open up your pocket books, we've got to save the sanctity of marriage. Please, sanctity my ass. And all this shit about procreation, you guys are fuckin' tards. What about ppl who are infertile you idiots. What about old ppl? what about ppl who just love each other and want to get married and dont want any fuckin' kids?

  86. 186

Re: Julian Day – Tell em' how it is. Expect waaay more assholes. Gays aren't going anywhere and we aren't shutting up no matter how many of you bastards try to shut us down. FIGHT H8!!!
