South Carolina Catholic Priest Says No Communion Wafers For Unrepentant Obama Voters

South Carolina Catholic priest Jay Scott Newman has told his parishioners in a letter that if they voted 'Barack Hussein Obama' and don't ask for forgiveness for doing so before taking the Body and Blood of Christ, their souls will be at risk!
His reason?
Says the priest, "Our nation has chosen for its chief executive the most radical pro-abortion politician ever to serve in the United States Senate or to run for president. Voting for a pro-abortion politician when a plausible pro-life alternative exists constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil, and those Catholics who do so place themselves outside of the full communion of Christ's Church and under the judgment of divine law. Persons in this condition should not receive Holy Communion until and unless they are reconciled to God in the Sacrament of Penance, lest they eat and drink their own condemnation."

Fr. Newman is abusing his position by expressing his personal beliefs dressed up as Catholic dogma. I'll bet he has other extreme opinions and is just as eager to condemn people for them as well. He provides an excellent example reaffirming why we have a separation of church and state. Sounds like the Vatican needs to send Fr. Newman on a long sabbatical. They are loosing too many members to have someone like this as a mouth-piece. He is hysterical and I pitty his parishoners, however many he has left.

This means that not only is abortion murder, but so is homicide(I don't think there'd be any argument here) suicide, euthanasia, capital punishment or ANY manner of killing. God has created life and we don;'t have the right to say whose is "worthy", or to decide when and how to take it away.Only God Himself can make that call and decide when that life ends. I think that about sums it up form a Catholic standpoint!
The Catholic Church has a very strong anti-abortion belief, so I'm not sure why any of you people have a problem with this. Being pro-life is a very important part of being a Catholic, so priests have every right to be able to ban those who voted for the most liberal president to date from communion. The church can do what it wants when it comes to distribtuing the eucharist, and obviously the people who do not understand this are either not Catholics or are not practicing their faith the way they should be. If you don't agree with what the church is doing, and you are not Catholic I'm not sure why this is your business. If you are Catholic and you don't agree then maybe you should rethink your religion considering a core belief of Catholicism is the respect for life.

First off I'm Catholic, but I believe in seperation of church and state. I believe what is best for our "state" is Obama, there are things that I am personally against (ie abortion) but that doesn't mean others shouldn't have the option. I HATE it when any religion starts telling others how the government should be run and what is best for a multi-religious state. Lastly, I'm pissed to see an "impeach Obama" sticker on a car already. I WENT TO THAT CHURCH FOR 13 YEARS- I went to St. Mary's school in Greenville, SC from kindergarten to 8th grade. As part of my education, I was made to go to mass twice a week. I have not been back since Father Newman began there, but I am not surprised -at all- to hear about this letter. This is concurrent with the teachings I witnessed as part of the school's curriculum as well as the teachings I witnessed in their church. These are the types of disturbing lessons children are being indoctrinated with on a daily basis in not only this, but other religious institutions I consider to be radical. I can only hope that some percentage of them will still manage to become free-thinking, open-minded adults- I did!

This priest is totally right. I’m sure that 95%, or more, of catholic priest feel the same way. He is just the only guy saying it. Unless your catholic yourself it doesn’t really pertain to you so don’t worry about it. It has nothing to do with corruption or hate. The Roman Catholic Church is the biggest proponent of the pro-life movement. The church does not judge people who have had abortions or do anything other than love those people. They just believe that voting for a candidate that is not pro-life is a sin because they believe killing is a sin. They also believe that all sins are forgivable with repentance, even getting multiple abortions yourself. If you truly repent, you will be forgiven. If you don’t understand the beauty of that forgiveness then I don’t know what to tell you. Its not between you and the church. Its between you and God.

Late term abortions are NOT routinely performed. There are very strict laws prohibiting late term abortions. Barack Obama does NOT support late term abortions. Late term abortions are only allowed if the mother's life is in imminent danger and even then, they will always try to save the baby's life if possible.

The Catholic church has no moral authority to condemn Obama for believing that the government shouldn't be involved in this issue. This priest sounds like an utter fool calling Obama 'radically pro-abortion.' Give me a break. If anyone would like to revisit what happens when nations outlaw abortion, may I suggest a quick study of Romania under Ceaucescu. It was not pretty. Abortion has always existed and will always exist. Education and a healthy, open attitude toward sexuality will help lessen the demand for them. Can we leave the dark ages now, please?

Babies does not always equal rainbows and butterflies. Unfortunately, not everyone is as caring, intelligent, and responsible as you or I, nor does everyone come from a loving, supporting family that is willing to help them. Forcing these people who are clearly not capable of raising a child to have their unwanted babies when they can barely feed or put a roof over themselves is not the answer.
