And the Mormon church is proud of it in the Times article!
Perez has been to the Sundance Film Festival for the last three years in a row, but we will not be attending this year. And, we call on everyone in the entertainment industry to do the same.

I am very dissapointed by this post Perez. I am a Mormon (member of the Church of Latter Day Saints being the correct term) and I was in favor of Prop 8 (I don't live in Cali so I couldn't vote but if I did I would have voted YES). What gets me the most upset is how everyone is saying that those who are in favor of Prop 8 HATE the gay community. I have family and friends that are gay and I don't hate them, not at all. it's not about HATE, its not about a civil rights movement. It's about what "Marriage" is defined as and that is a union between a MAN and a WOMAN. That is the way its has always been and will always be. I believe the gay community should get all the rights as a married couple but I don't think it should be called a "marriage" because a marriage is a union between a MAN and WOMAN. Look it up in the dictionary, it's right there. What also makes me even more upset is how the Mormon church is beging targeted with true HATE crimes. I mean what gives? If a member of the Mormon church would send a member of the gay community letters with "white powder" in them how would the gay community act? IN AN UPROAR! It would be the HATE crime of the century! But the gay community is doing that to us right now with no signs of remorse. How hypercritical can that be? HATE IS HATE, if you believe we are hating on you what gives you the right to hate on us? Park City is the most liberal place in Utah. There are still a lot of Mormans but when I lived there I noticed there was a rebellian against it. I think there are probably better things to boycott than Sundance if you are trying to hurt the Mormans.

As a non-mormon, born and raised in Utah, I would like you to understand that it ignorant to assume that Utah=Mormon. The Sundance film festival, as I know it, is in no way affiliated with the LDS Church. If anything, it promotes a great deal of issues that they oppose. Films at Sundance provoke thought on issues that would otherwise be avoided, especially in Utah. It is unfortunate that you would confront hate with more hate.

Everyone who boycotts Sundance are fucking morons…First, Robert Redford isn't even Mormon, Sundance has nothing to do with Mormons - in fact, most Mormons abhor the film festival because it's so crazy and wild! Park City is *Maybe* 20% Mormon, the least of the ENTIRE fucking state which is on average 70% mormon. So HELLO! You are not hurting Mormons, but rather the brilliant, NON-mormon directors, actors, screenwriters, etc! These people are anything BUT mormon, and I love when the Film Festival comes to Utah b/c that means I get a breath of fresh air! So why the hell would you even think of such a stupid idea? Hey Perez, I am with you one thousand percent against hate and Mormons, and Prop 8 in CA and Prop 2 in FL, but I think it is a mistake to pin this on Sundance, which has no ties to the religion whatsoever, other than to be in the same beautiful state. Why punish the hard working artisans who give their all to be included? Not one dime goes to the Mormon church! Why continue the hate? Park City hardly even has any Mormons!
