And the Mormon church is proud of it in the Times article!
Perez has been to the Sundance Film Festival for the last three years in a row, but we will not be attending this year. And, we call on everyone in the entertainment industry to do the same.

I found out last night that someone I know (family) did a 42 day fast with their church hoping Prop H8te would pass. Just really sad…it makes me want to cry. I can't believe there is such hatred in peoples hearts. Hate mongers…same people that didn't want Blacks to vote and wanted women to be kept as property. VERY sad….

You're wrong. Protesting Sundance doesn't hurt mormons, or send a message to them. It hurts those who put the time and effort into making a film they're proud of. Those who make independent films rarely get the chance for their work to get noticed, Sundance provides them the oppurtunity to show off their work. Boycotting Sundance hurts film makers who work hard to produce their film. Sundance is in no way related to the Mormon church. If you assume everything in Utah to be related to the Mormons, than I could assume everything in California to be related to gays. It's a proposterous way of thinking. Either you're against prop 8, or you're for it, but either way there's not need to place blame on one group. Most of those who came out to vote for Obama voted in favor of prop 8. Seems to me what LGBT people are really reacting to is the Morman and Catholic groups spending so hard to restrict rights; 'historically' black denominations may have voted to restrict, but they were not spenders. Future converstations with black communities of faith about how to love your gay brothers and sisters will continue, but not with the same 'tone' as this Mormon and Catholic backlash out of respect for the spend factor, and not out of fear of the violence we all know plagues the black community.

Let's look at this logically. First, there are more than 38 million people living in California, only 12 million of them voted either for or against Prop 8. How about blaming the 26 million apathetic Californians living in your state?
Second of all, of the 38 million people living in California, how many do you think are mormon? Less than 2%. Even if every single mormon in California voted for Prop 8, that's still less than 10% of the Yes vote
How much money did mormon church donate to support Prop 8? None.
Did some members of the mormon church donate money to support Prop 8? Yes. Did some members of the mormon church donate money against Prop 8? Yes.
What happened in California was the fundamental right all of Americans to go to the polls and exercise their right to vote. If you don't like the outcome of this or any other vote then fight to change it…it's that simple. This vote was in the hands of Californians as a whole…they botched it, not mormons.
And what does Sundance have to do with mormons anyway?

Okay one the Mormon population in California is less then half it's like 20 percent I think. Two of those Mormons in California even less are of voting age and even less voted yes. Three the church did not pay anything, the individual members donated money so it was not the leaders who decided to give money. And Four Sundance has nothing to do with Mormons other then it is held in Utah. So boycotting Sundance would be a waste. The law was passed get over it!
As a non-mormon that grew up in SLC, I have complete disgust for the church starting from early childhood when I was told I was evil, because I was not part of their faith/cult. Having a brother who is also gay and I believe in his rights, this is just another spark to the flame that the church has kept burning in me since I was a kid, but you should not boycott the only good liberal and cultural thing that comes out of utah, by the way it is held in Park City, one of the more liberal towns in the state, it is all Hollywood sponsored, and the mormons stay away from all those alcohol sponsored events, and provocative indie films anyway. The town is full of tourists, I think your safe to go, but feel free to destroy as many LDS owned properties while you're there. If they can't separate church and state, I believe there is no wrong is in destroying religious property!!!
