And the Mormon church is proud of it in the Times article!
Perez has been to the Sundance Film Festival for the last three years in a row, but we will not be attending this year. And, we call on everyone in the entertainment industry to do the same.

Telling everyone to boycott the Sundance Film Festival because of what the Mormon Church did is ludicrous. They have nothing to do with Sundance. Not everyone who lives or works in Utah is a Mormon, and not everyone who lives in Utah agrees with the Mormon Church. A lot of people who live in Utah can't stand the Mormons but put up with them because, despite the Mormons, Utah is a great place to live.

1. The idea that you would combat discrimination with more discrimination is laughable. Two wrongs don't make a right.
2. Boycott the Sundance film festival? Are you serious? Are you sane? The Sundance film festival has nothing to do with Mormons. Park City is the most liberal part of Utah.
3. Not everyone in Utah is Mormon, and not every Mormon supports prop 8. I am Mormon, am a California resident and am against this proposition. Am I disappointed in my church's stance on this issue? Yes. But I am even more ashamed at the way those who are against prop 8 are responding to the vote.
4. You do know that Mormons only contributed money, not votes. California voted against this proposition, the numbers, although close, showed that the majority of people did not agree with gay marriage. Should we turn out backs on Catholics, many in the Latino and Black communities, our evangelical brothers? No, we must befriend them, show them love and help change their minds. Gay marriage will eventually come, but not through "reverse" discrimination and hate mongering.
Maybe if people would of spent this time and energy building up opposition before the election then there might have been a different outcome. Now everyone wants to cry about it and blame everyone else. It's Pathetic!!!! Discrimination is wrong no matter who its aimed at.

Aside that, I do know the impact and how many people would be affected with a boycott to Sundance. Yes!! it will send a powerful message!! and I am sure there are many other independent festivals they can show their magnificent films on. But when the State of Utah see their taxes affected by gays boycotting their industries, then I am very sure they are going to take matters seriously and legislate their cults so they do not get involved in politics and legislation and they keep their narrow views to themselves.

Instead of blaming certain groups for the passage of this proposal, put the blame on those who did not reach out and educate the people in those communities before the election. I live in Utah. And I have to say there are some amazing people here. We have had two protests against Prop 8, one was today, and turnout has been great. Unfortunately the mormon church just doesn't get it. I have always been more than tolerant and let the missionaries give me their pamphlets and what not. But I am so saddened by this. We should all boycott Sundance and any church owned businesses. We should also make it quite clear that hate will not be tolerated.

The institution of "marriage" should never have been wrenched from the church and imbedded into our society as a concept of law. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof". (1)

Re: shag11 – There is a solution. Overturn any marriage regulation on every law book in the USA. Re-establish this institution as a "civil union" and then if you want to get "married" - find a church that'll agree to "marry" you.
Get rid of the marriage clerks, marriage licenses, and marriage offices in county and city buidlings, and replace them with civil union clerks, licenses, and offices. Rewrite all the tax laws, etc. that say "marriage: and replace it with "civil union". (3)
