My point is that if you could go to Park City - you would see that it has lots of little local venues that are not LDS owned. Most people going to Sundance stay in that area or SLC, also not highly LDS.
If you want to tell people not to go visit Orem, Provo — Utah County happy valley businesses would more often than not be Mormon owned…
Utahns rarely have anything to do with Sundance… other than those that get dressed up and try to get into Harry O's for a party hoping to meet some celebs.
I support the gay community and any supporters speaking with their dollars. I myself searched my area to see what businesses made donations and what side they stood on, boycotting Sundance will not hurt Utah.
And knowing Mormons, if it does impact, all of them from out of state will decide to take their family vacations to Utah this year. Mormons band together like crazy. Haven't you ever noticed the way anyone Mormon always makes it through mad rounds of any viewer voted reality show? Mormons love other Mormons and love to support them —
This boycott won't do a thing to Utah. It will get in the papers and make a statement to the US in general, but it won't hurt Utah.

Second, I don't see you protesting the catholics or black community for their part in this. I am for Prop 8 and oddly so is my GAY BROTHER! He agrees that it should be a civil union and really he wishes people would stop making such an issue as it only seems to be drawing bad press to the gay community.

Like the article says, the company is trying to distance themselves from the donation. The donation was made to PROP 8 by the owner as an individual, not in the name of the theater. If you really want to play the game of 6 degrees of separation to everyone who gave money to yes on 8, you'd be surprised, I'm sure. By boycotting places like that, yes, business will be lost, but that also means people will lose jobs, people who probably do not agree with owners. This is just ridiculous!

That aside, I feel the reason the LDS Church is being boycotted over other churches with large african amaerican pops is because of the dough the LDS sank into the ad campaign. Sure a majority of blacks and latinos voted for Prop 8, but the YES campaign was largely funded by LDS churchgoers (and let's try to remeber that 85% of republicans voted yes on 8 and a WHOLE lotta white crackers voted along with the balcks and latinos and moorons…err, I mean Mormons.

Perez - my best friend's family is from Utah and they are 100% Catholic. Not all folks from Utah are Mormon. This ban is ridiculous. I'm sure Robert Redford really appreciates this ban… who cares about all the good things he's done over the years, He's not a Mormon either, by the way, But what else can we expect from the uneducated folks who used Thomas Jefferson's quote regarding minorities to back the fight against prop 8. Holy cow. Is anyone else amazed by how much hate speech is coming out of the mouths of gays? I cannot remember seeing people who supported prop 8 standing on corners and shouting hateful, nasty statements about homosexuals.

Prop 8 wouldn't have gotten on the ballot if it was discriminatory. It was already cleared by the court to be voted on.

I'm gay and I could care less about prop 8. It happened, move forward. Marriage is a religious act anyways. Civil Unions will serve the same purpose without someone of a religious nature joining your hands under god. Think about it? I voted YES on 8. Not because I hate gays. I have gays in my family just like everyone else. What turned me off was the teachers union spending millions of dollars of teachers union fees on NO ON 8 ads. The schools in CA are lacking and are so hurting for money so much that at the beginning of the year they asked for donations of stuff like PRINTER PAPER. I don't know for sure if gay marriage was going to be taught in schools. That wasn't my issue. NO MARRIAGE SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN SCHOOLS. Teaching any kind is discriminatory. You teach about marriage and you are discriminating against the kids who grew up in single parent homes. They are going to think that they are less of a person than the kid who grew up in a 2 parent home. CA affords more rights to the Gay community than most states. A civil union affords all the same rights, it is just not called marriage.

I have never been to a restaurant where they refuse to serve homosexuals, or been to a theatre or to a park where this happens. It is ignorant to even compare the struggle of the gays to the civil rights movement and bust out with quotes to gather sympathy and try to garner support. LDS religion or as you guys know it, Mormons, don't have anything to do with this. It's not even neat to assume that Sundance or the LDS religion is behind this whole thing. I'm LDS but we are taught not to judge therefore, I really don't care about gay marriage. Unfortunately, it was put to a vote and California voted against it. Why is it the Mormons fault? Why don't you go to the polls and question every single person that voted against gay marriage and count how many are Mormon. I bet you a lot of them are NOT Mormon.
The Sundance Film Festival is apparently being boycotted by Perez because it's in Utah (where I live and have grown up) which is where the majority of Mormons live. ::rolls eyes:: This is actually the first time I have heard that the Mormons are being blamed for this whole Prop 8 thing. It's pathetic. Do some research. If it were the Mormons, it would be nationwide that would be voting, not just California. My father in law isn't Mormon and he voted against it. Because that would defeat the purpose of the Sundance Film Festival. Robert Redford owns the Sundance Ski Resort up Provo Canyon, but due to high numbers of people attending they moved it up to Park City about 20 minutes from Sundance. There is no Sundance in Colorado. Duh……just google it.
