Nurse Hathaway Will Not Be Returning To ER

see-ya.jpg

Julianna Margulies - who played George Clooney's eventual on-screen lover - will not be returning to the set of ER this season, the show's last.

Unlike most of the other ER alums, Margulies will not be reprising her role as nurse Carol Hathaway. She left the show in 2000, turning down a $27 million offer to remain for 3 more seasons, and returned home to New York to pursue other projects. Translation: Live off her ER money and do nothing much.

She says her decision to move on comes from the feeling that "I left Carol Hathaway in the best scenario possible. I can't imagine making it any better than that."

But we're sure the nurse's absence will leave fans disappointed, as her plot line found itself tangled up with Clooney's dashing Dr. Doug Ross. Clooney's return is likewise uncertain, despite a recent reprisal and ratings boostNoah Wyle will be returning, along with Eriq La Salle, who will also direct an episode.

Only old people watch this show now. We don't care. But I guess Perez's mom does.

  16. 16

Why should she return? She is under no obligation to do so. That show needs to finally end once and for all!

I'm disappointed by her decision. I understand she left the character w/ the ultimate happy ending but throw the fans a bone! ER has been on for 15 seasons and she was a large part of it. It'd be nice if every character came on to bid the show a fond farewell, like it deserves.

who still watches that stupid show….i never got it

  19. 19

I disagree with her belief that she left her character in a good place. Doug leaves town and she refuses to go, then discovers she's pregnant. He never once comes back while she is pregnant or after having the babies. She then goes running after him. I know Clooney had left a year before she did, but it was a fucked up ending to me. If he had come back for her, it would have been a different story. The were a great couple while they were on though.

She is still so freakin' gorgeous. I used to run into Ron Eldard via mutual friends in the late 1990's and even he could not believe his good fortune in hooking up with her. He eventually lost her, because water finds it's own level. She turned down like $20 million a season when they tried to keep her on, and she passed. Avoiding this chance to isn't surprising.

  21. 21

I've watched ER since the first episode and I'm loving this last season with all the past characters, wish she'd come back, but oh well! I'm still hopin' Clooney makes a return!!

  22. 22

Not true. She wrote and produced her own television series, starring herself as an alcoholic lawyer who had recently lost her child to a predator on Fox.
Regretfully, the show premiered just as the writer's strike ended, and Fox moved the show to the dead zone on Fridays, and then axed it.

  23. 23

Good. I really forgot all about her anyway.

  24. 24

good seriously who gives a shit, I found her character very depressing as well as shit face Abby, neither of them ever smiled, depressing unlikable, nonsense characters if you ask me. Oh and the "relationship" with Clooney, please, very unconvincing, almost as bad as ugly-face Abby with Luca! I didn't believe any of that. ER writers should realize when things aren't working esp. with the realationships, that is why all these things end so damn stupid

  25. 25

…People still watch ER?? I jumped ship 5 years ago!!

  26. 26

    People still watch that show…?

  27. 27

Seriously? I hate these actors that get famous or move on but dont appreciate how they got there. I love George Clooney but him not coming back would be completely disrespectful. It would take a day or 2 out of his schedule to pay homage to something that made him famous.

  28. 28

    She is sooooooooooooooooooo sexy!
