I loves me some gays, but I do hope that Obama focuses on the Economy, the War(s), Health Care and the Environment before anything else. It's hard to get upset about marriage rights when I look out my window everyday at the increasing number of homeless people on the street and console friends who are losing jobs.
PEREZ - take a tip from Mr. Obama and focus on solutions not complaints. I don't think you want to assign responsibility to the Federal government just yet - we don't have a legislature, popular vote or Supreme Court that would get anywhere near the issue at that level. Focus at the State level and educate yourself on how the machine works so you can use your influence for good instead of inciting a state of victimhood.

Having been in the Army in the late 80s and early 90s when "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was in it's infancy (BTW. that was during Senior Bush's time, Clinton just actually approved the final bill for it) IMO (don't attack me for it) DADT, is really a protection for the gays in the military. There is A LOT of drinkingin the military, so people get stupid and tempers flare. Well, "men" feel threatened by gays, they feel it "compromises" their manhood when hit on by one. It really does protect them. My hubby is a marine now and a few months ago a gay marine broke into another marine's room while he was sleeping and starting hitting on him. Marines are trained to KILL. Luckily, this guy wasn't drunk, but he did punch the gay marine. Not saying it's right, but it is what it is. The gay marine is lucky the other guy didn't kill him, he was a big guy and could've easily done so. I've seen Solider Girl, very good movie, very sad, unfortunately, it happens often.
Of course, with keeping your views to yourself, you shouldn't stop giving information about what's going on in Politics…just stop with all of these damn snide comments.

I'm going to repeat what everyone else has been saying: He's not president yet dahling. He hasn't failed anyone. But by the way, he doesn't support gay marriage, just civil unions. However, he was AGAINST Prop 8, but ultimately this was a state constitution issue, not federal so even if he was PRESIDENT and not PRESIDENT-ELECT he couldn't have done shit about without a Supreme Court appeal. While I do not agree with gay marriage, I don't see what the problem is with being gay and serving in the armed forces. Being gay does not diminsh their ability to work. The Obama thing shouldn't surprise you; I don't think he has changed his stance on gay marriage…he has always been against it.

Perez seems to think if Obama did that (I guess in his thinking because he is a democrat he should be supporting gay rights) that more people who have voted against Prop 8…that it would have swayed the high black vote at least. As of now, the only way to change that is through the state of California. The thing that most bothers me is you saying that Barack Obama has "FAILED" us. First off, he is President ELECT! He does not have the powers of the President at this moment. Second, if by chance the Prop 8 appeals get to the national level, he could not single handedly overturn the outcome. He could veto it but it all comes down to Congress. So to say that this man has failed us before he has even begun is not only inaccurate, but unfair.

Protecting us from terrorist strikes (like president Bush has) should be a top priority as many countries hate the USA. Bush did that part right. Just read an article about this on Marine Corps times. One of the backers of this is a retired Admiral. He goes on to say that his daughter is a lesbian. See, this is what sucks. He didn't say, but most likely since he was active when the DADT went into effect he was against it, but now, that he is retired and his daughter is a lesbian it is in his best interest to be against it. All of these high ranking officers are saying to get rid of it. They are retired, honestly, their opinions at this time don't mean shit. Why weren't they more vocal about it when they were still in the military and it could've made a difference. Fucking hypocrites as usual.
