Chuck Norris Doesn't Get It

Filed under: Gay Gay Gay > Politik

norris.jpg

Right-winger Chuck Norris has equated the LGBT fight for gay marriage and equality to anarchy in a new column.

WTF???????

Here's a little taste of Chuck's thoughts:

"There is a difference between respectfully advocating one's civil rights and demanding public endorsement of what many still consider to be unnatural sexual behavior through cruel coercion and repression tactics."

"On Nov. 4, the pro-gay community obviously was flabbergasted that a state that generally leans left actually voted right when it came to holy matrimony. "

It's called a fight against the notion that separate is equal, Chuck!

Also, have you heard of the separation of church and state????

We're all for people having different points of views, but when their religious beliefs get in the way of OUR RIGHTS, we're going to speak out loudly and unapologetically!

If you look at the map of California the areas that voted for gay civil rights and voted no on 8 are the much wealthier tax base of the state, and it tells you the education levels that go with it,the threee most bigoted groups are southern/republcians and I would say republicans in general, the mormon cult ,and the uneducated blacks, the most bigoted when it comes to gay people and their rights.

He makes a great point. California and 30 other states have spoken. It is not unfair. The State voted Yes on 8. End of story. That is why we vote, so everyone can be heard. Just because you don't get your way, doesn't mean you have the right to intimidate other people. That is wrong. It passed, now time to move on! It is the democratic process. Hey. Mass and Conn. passed it, so feel free to go theret o get married!

  11. 111

Chuck, is it natural to cheat on your wife and create a baby out of wedlock and then ignore that child for 26 years? That's a great husband and father. I'm sure God is smiling down on you.

Norris married Diane Holechek in 1958. In 1963, his first child with Holechek, a son named Mike, was born. His daughter, Dina, was born in 1964 to a woman that wasn't his wife. Then, he had a second son, Eric, with his wife in 1965. After 30 years of marriage, Norris and Holechek divorced in 1988.

He married again, in November 1998; this time to former model Gena O'Kelley, who was born in 1968, and is 28 years Norris's junior. O'Kelley had two children from a previous marriage. She delivered twins in 2001: Dakota Alan Norris, a boy, and Danilee Kelly Norris, a girl.

On September 22, 2004, Norris told Entertainment Tonight's Mary Hart that his daughter Dina was the result of an extramarital affair. He did not meet her until she was 26, although she learned that he was her father when she was 16. She sent him a letter to his home informing him that she was his daughter. After meeting her, he acknowledged that he knew that she was his upon seeing her.

Separation of church and state is right. "Marriage" is a religious tradition. What right does the government have to come in and redefine it? I'm all for civil unions, and people living their lives with whomever they want, but marriage isn't a right. It's an institution. Voting for keeping the government out of religion (the way the phrase "separation of church and state" was originally intended) does not make one a homophobe.

  18. 118

Marriage is NOT a uniquely Judeo-Christian concept. Marriage existed long before Jesus arrived on the scene, and it will continue to exist well after the next savior/prophet/magician who comes along. To suggest that Christianity gets to dictate what marriage is is ignorant and insulting to those of us who have a world outside of religious dogma.

By constantly bashing the people who voice their opinion about Prop 8 you are becoming no worse than those individuals who spew hate about the LGBT community. And using your site to bash these people is just as bad as all the hate sites out there. This site is for gossip and entertainment and it's quickly becoming unenjoyable with the constant negative posting regarding this issue. You're losing dedicated fans because they're not the kind of people who want to read hypocritical hate on a constant basis.

Prop 8 passed because the people voted. It was completely democratic, and if you feel it discriminates against your rights, fair enough. But by continuing these kinds of actions, you're only making a stronger case for those who are against Prop 8 and since there are apparently alot of them, you're pissing off the majority.

I really hope that you take all these posts from your fans into consideration and return to the old Perez sometime soon.

  25. 125

Re: hellojessi – If civil unions allowed the same rights as marriage then I could care less what it was called but the fact is they do not. Marriage provides so many basics rights to people that you have no idea what you are talking about. Read up on the issue before spouting off next time.

  26. 126

    Re: Swingkid87

This is the most reasoned and cogent response as to why many people don't agree with this issue. I saw the green line go up on CNN when the candidates said they were against gay marriage. The majority doesn't want it. And majority rules. I was even surprised at how many people voted against it (and for me). I would like to thank those who voted for euality. It is young people who are pushing this issue, not just gays. That's because a generation has come out and all of a sudden people have had "examples." "Uncle Ted is gay you know." "Yeah, I know. Big deal." People got to make up their own minds in a more open atmosphere. And young people, those who elected Obama and are now hurt by the Prop 8 fiasco, are the reason this topic keeps reappearing. A friend of mine said: "My parents are so fucked up. They've each been married like 10 times and they both voted Yes on Prop 8.

this issue is too big to be on either side of it, perez. frankly, marriage itself is NOT a thing of "state" - marriage is a religious thing. i might not agree that because someone is gay they should be denied the right to marry, but don't try to tell me that marriage is not a religious thing. it's deeply religious, and the separate of church and state is bullshit anyway. it's a huge part of why this country is so fucked up right now.

  31. 131

Finally someone has said what i've been saying all along, there is supposed to be seperation of church and state. Somewhere along the way those lines of seperation have been blurred. And it's absolutely ignorant for anyone to say that if a gay couple wants to be married that they should move to a state where it is legal. Who in the hell are any of us to say that? I think everyone should be embarrassed that a proposition passed that set our country back 50 years. Sad and pathetic

Buuuuut….isn't MARRIAGE BASED IN RELIGION? You can't separate marriage from religion. I'm all for civil LEGAL unions that give the same LEGAL rights as a married couple but you can't call it marriage when most religions don't accept gay marriage. What, you think just because a small group thinks an apple is an orange everyone else has to agree that it's an orange or be ok with your opinion even though it's WRONG? You can't go redefining a term to make it fit YOUR lifestyle. Have your own term with the same rights, but don't call it marriage.

  39. 139

Re: ShakeYourkitty – Ok hunny… here's my deal: I do not care what you do in your life and nothing you do affects me. Aka: You getting married (which you don't) doesn't affect me one bit.
What I am saying is that while I may have respect for individuals having their own beliefs, morals, roles in life, etc., since I TRUST in what the Lord says in the bible to be the Truth, I MYSELF cannot fully support gay marriage.
It's a fine line with me since I have gay friends and always want them to be the happiest they can be. We debate all the time and they understand and accept that while I support them as a person, I don't agree with their marriages. That doesn't mean I don't want them together with someone that makes them happy, it simply means I believe God when he talks about marriage as a vow between man and woman. They choose to ignore that because it's what they want and I am not a person to stand in their way if it is possible (aka: legal). I just live my life according to God, which is hard to do and I will never be perfect in His eyes, but damnit, I try.

  40. 140

Re: NotQueerAtAll – i'm not gay and i don't get you or chuck norris… you appear to be an asshole..that's all… if you don't like gays or gay marriage, move someplace that does not separate church from state, because HERE, we DO!

  41. 141

I am in no way a bible thumper… I don't look like an amish and certainly don't push my bible in a person's face, so it saddens me to see people trying to put all people who say they "believe in God" in the same basket. Not everyone whom believes in God understands the bible and is correct. In fact, most are completely wrong and WILL go to hell for, as you say, "pick and choosing" what the believe from the bible. That's a sad fact… I wish hell upon no one. There are too many contradicting "God-fearing Christian" denominations for them to be considered one-in-the-same.
Once you understand that I am not the "bible thumper" you petition me out to be, you'll maybe get past your obvious past issues to read what I have to say. I am not your mother, aunt, or whomever. I am not pushing you to be ashamed of who you are or to not be gay. I just have beliefs and a God that I stick to… and that isn't something I'm willing to give up.

    CHUCK SUCKS!

  43. 143

okay perez no where did the almighty chuck norris mention anything about religion….majority of the united states may be okay with a gay couple on tv but when it comes to real life and marriage like it or not America is still very conservative. You have civil unions for the time being which give you a lot of the same rights as a married couple so why not jsut be happy with that. Marriage defined by almost every culture in the world (not religion but actual cultures) is between a man and a woman. Deal with it already and quit being babies that you lost an election. Im a republican and you dont see me holding protests and boycotting black people because I didnt get my way. And as far as this being a civil rights movement….are you really going to compare not being able to get married because of a sexual preference to being declared 3/5 human for skin color (something you cannot control) i mean honestly…….if you want to get married that bad perez marry a woman….you might hafta pay her but you'd probably hafta pay a man too

  44. 144

Re: kitkatj07 – FYI… neither is "marriage should be between a man and a woman" …jerk

  45. 145

It shouldn't matter if your gay or not. It's being humane, plain and simple. These religious freaks who think everyone should believe as they do make me sick.

  46. 146

FINALLY the mother efing church and state issue is brought up. I hate that we live in a society who preaches separation of church and state, when, in essence, we live in a government-ruled society who is influenced heavily by church. It is simply disgusting.

I cannot come to understand his stance on this issue. Marriage is not just a word…and it is not simply a contract between a man and a woman. What happened to love? Does no one believe in love anymore?

  47. 147

    Re: JuliaGulia – thank you….that is all i wanted…..

i know i can be harsh…..(understatement)…….i just hate to see people who want to be happy denied of that right…….(even tho im a miserable prick).

P.S. you hit the nail on the head with that stuff about my family……..

  48. 148

There shouldn't be a vote on equal rights…no one should have the decision to either approve or dissaprove of equal rights…they should just be there…The 30 states who have officially outlawed same-sex marriage have made those people less of people. But I just don't get it. I hate them.

I'm from NJ, but currently attend school in CT, a state who has recently approved of same-sex marriage…approved of equality. GO CONNECTICUT.

    suck it 30 states. seriously.

  49. 149

    Re: Leona$ Gho$t – sweetie….dahling…..where's the bottle??????

    I need a drink…….

  50. 150

actually religion and state are not two separate things. america was founded on religious beliefs - the puritans first moved here from england hoping to practice their own religion. during the 1800s america was a country that was very much grounded on religious beliefs. and yes it's true that these are events of the past, but if we look at the present society, our money has the words "God bless America" written on it. and it is almost a requirement that every president be Christian. so even though america is tolerant of different religions and not all citizens are even Christians, i don't think its fair to say that religious and government are two separate entities, because they are clearly not.

  51. 151

Chuck Norris is absolutely right. Being "married" does not make you "equal". You are screaming that WE HAVE THE RIGHT to marry, but you do not, and you cannot prove that you do. You already enjoy the RIGHTS that every adult has within their "individual" rights. Siblings cannot marry. Cousins cannot marry. Three-way relationships cannot marry. Children cannot marry. You are "not" the only "minority" that cannot marry, so screaming that it is about hate is kind of stupid. Marriage is about legitimizing the offspring of a man and a woman in pro-creation to replenish humanity. You already have the "individual rights" to co-habitate, love and fornicate with any consenting adult, and marriage does not change that relationship; but homos cannot procreate, so you do not fullfil the definition of marriage. Anyway, homos have a mental health issue, where a damaged area of the brain is sending false signals regarding their gender identity, and considering that some of you are pushing around little old ladies that disagree with you, I think you just want the cover of marriage, to give the impression that you are normal adults as a means of lessening your mental deficiencies.
    ——————————————————

  52. 152

please perez…. as much as i am up for equality for all and gay marriage; this is becomming too much. People are entitled to their freedom of speech and say whatever they think. And he's a reflection of over 50% of the people that voted for prop 8.
Part of tolerance and respect of civil rights is respecting other people's opinion; which you are not doing

  53. 153

    Gotta love Chuck Norris.

  54. 154

Re: lefty lady – what part of Ohio…..dayton here…..(well….west carrolton really but no one knows where that is….)

  55. 155

    Re: Luv2Skydive
If marriage and religion are intertwined does that mean that we are soon going to ban heterosexual athiest couples from getting married or make prospective married couples take some sort of "test" to prove their religious beliefs? So many flaws in peoples rationale.
I respect the opinion of people who don't agree with gay marriage but I don't respect people who force their religious beliefs on others. And that is exactly what prop 8 did.

  56. 156

and going along with a lot of people's opinions, people have already voted and they voted for the act to pass. so i would say it's being rather oppressive for the no-supporters to continue to protest and to condemn the yes-voters as being narrow-minded, selfish, and orthodox. these people who criticize others are being hypocritcal; they are also being narrow minded in that they cannot think outside their own realm of though to respect other people's religions, beliefs, and morals.

  57. 157

Chuck Norris is so straight, he eats copper and shits rolled up pennies.

  58. 158

Re: JuliaGulia – Now i feel bad for shooting my mouth off………thereapy has obviously done me NOOOOO good with anger management….lol……

    …..work in progress…..

  59. 159

Perez, Perez, Perez…I am the mother of a gay man. I want you all to have equal rights where marriage is concerned. But damnit, if you don't like that somebody else doesn't agree with you, you call them names, etc. There is a difference between getting your views out, disagreeing and knocking some elderly woman's cross to the ground and stomping on it (as seen on the news). Or, how about disrupting that church in Michigan? These people were listening to a sermon when about two dozen gay people went in, starting yelling "It's okay to be gay" and threw hundreds of papers around. They could be heard yelling from outside that Jesus was homosexual. That is not speaking loudly and unapologetically—that was just being disrespectful and rude. You certainly are not drawing people to the gay marriage cause anymore than Fred Phelps draws people to Christianity.

  60. 160

ovemusic [15] says: thats right perez! religion needs to stay the fuck out of this issue!
    ————————————————————–
You crack me up. Marriage is a "religious" ceremony.
    ————————————————————–

  61. 161

no perez, you don't get it. this country was founded on certain beliefs and views. sorry they don't bend to meet your wants and needs. get over it or move somewhere else!

  62. 162

& one more point. this issue of gay marriage does not necessarily have to be about religion. by nature, a woman can give birth only by the aid of a man, and a man can raise a child only by the help of a woman. thus, in a way, this law of nature is separating a practice that is natural to something that is unnatural. when a man and a man or a woman and a woman try to marry and have a child - they are in ways, violating the law of nature and trying to forcefully push the boundaries of what nature can simply allow.

  63. 163

not to mention perez…these religious views you talking about standing in the way of your rights are the same religious views that marriage is based on. grow a brain.

  64. 164

perez, You don't get it. We live in a democracy. The people voted and the acts following that vote have been shameful. Attacks on an elder woman, disrupting church services, and anyone that went against your believe is unacceptable. You can't go around speaking of tolerance when you yourself attack everyone that thinks different then you do. I am sorry if the vote of the people wasn't what you wanted perez, but that's what a democracy is all about and your complaining does nothing to help it only annoys the readers of your website. If the vote went your way, and the Yes on 8 people started acting the way you and other protesters are acting you would have a field day with them and i'm sur you would be the 1st to say…we voted and thats the outcome…"WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT" :)

  65. 165

Re: laurenbrooke – but hasnt marriage gained more meaning than a sole religious connection? We live in the 21st century, not the 18th. While it's a religious ceremony, blah blah blah, it has evolved beyond this. So watch your words, because as much as others are entitled to their word, so is perez and his supporters. And as much a religion is the foundation of marriage, marriage has become a social entity well beyond its roots in religion

  66. 166

that goes for pig nasty too.

Humanity barely exists. People have sincerely let me down.

  67. 167

Chuck Norris is so straight he flattens soda cans with his asscheecks.

  68. 168

Re: marissalicious – why should i watch my words when others can speak however they like? marriage is an institution. marriage is based on religion. facts, not just my words.

  69. 169

theBIGwoo [26] says: why don't we give all people the right to join together whether it's "marriage" for straight people or "union" for people who are gay…why are we stopping people from loving each other??
    ——————————————————
I can answer that for you [and nobody is stopping anyone from loving each other - they can co-habitate/love/fornicate under their "individual" rights, and they can have a marriage or union ceremony whenever you want, it's just not "legally" acknowledged]. Being married does not change any aspect of a homo relationship, since there are no offspring to be legitimized. What are they yelling so loud about. It's money, baby. If homos marry, they will qualify for spousal benefits. Since women predominantly provide the childcare of offspring, spousal benefits are intended to protect her basic support in the absence of the primary wage-earner. Governments operate on the trickle-down system, which means that adult children will be contributing to the tax base when their aging parents begin to draw on it, and since homos cannot pro-create, the tax system would crash in subsequent generations.

  70. 170

    TO USE YOUR WORDS….

but when their "RIGHTS" get in the way of OUR religious beliefs, we're going to speak out loudly and unapologetically!

    IT GOES BOTH WAYS BUDDY!

  71. 171

its idiots like you, perez, that make me opposed to gay marriage. GET OVER IT, ALREADY! not everybody believes in what you believe in.

  72. 172

Re: laurenbrooke – state your facts, and i will state mine, because while i recognize it's initial foundations, marriage is as much social as religious, if not more.
And it's sad that people are scrutinizing perez for firmly stating his opinion on the matter. People can call him names, too, as he might bash others due to his beliefs. If you people are to criticize him for his word, isn't that proving to be awfully hypoctritical (that is not directed as a response to your post laurenbrooke)

  73. 173

You have all the rights a citizen has already. You're only talking about Marriage, which is in essence a contract between a MAN and WOMAN! You want something which is NOT meant for a MAN and MAN; just like a MAN and DOG can't marry; just like a MAN and TREE cannot marry. Call it something else and make it a contract, and it can be YOURS, all yours! Doesn't that make sense, call it something else and it can be only for homosexuals. That's empowerment.

  74. 174

I have freedome of speech and mind and can say whatever I feel here, whether you like it or not. That's what Perez is doing, that's what the rest of you do. You don't have to agree with me, I'm not asking you to! It has nothing to do with race, age, creed…..YES ON 8, MARRIAGE is between a Man and Woman.

I believe that gays & lesbians should have the same rights as everyone else. However many people (mostly Christians) believe that marriage is a holy union with God between a man and a woman. So why not just have a different name for it besides marriage like "unity" or something else with the same rights as a married couple. I'm sure people would be more likely to pass the law and that way everyone could have equal rights!

No Perez, you are clueless. Chuck Norris "gets it." You don't "get it." You are not being denied a right. Marriage is not for gays. Marriage is between a man and a woman. Have fun in hell gay boy!

  77. 177

    fucking bible belt.

why don't you all get your own minds!!!!
it's nice to have something to believe in, but conjure up some of yoru own thoughts as well. people are people are equal. gay, straight, black, white, 60 or 3.

    Take a sociology class.
    Ugh. Ignorance.

  78. 178

why the hell should your personal beliefs interfere with my right to freedom of religion?

like seriously this is stupid marriage is a religious institution beteween man and a woman..go get an effing civil union its the equivalent.

  79. 179

Chuck Norris is an idiot, does this really surprise you? He thought Sarah Palin was smart.

The religious right wing will never listen, they are too brainwashed.

  80. 180

Also, have you heard of the separation of church and state????

We're all for people having different points of views, but when their religious beliefs get in the way of OUR RIGHTS, we're going to speak out loudly and unapologetically!

What you don't realize is that we can't separate religion from state Perez cause our religion makes us who we are, it is who we are and we can't go aganist it just to vote for something we are not for. You want us to separate ourselves from our beliefs, the beliefs who make up of who we are for your rights. We can't do that Perez, that selfish and it's pretty mean that you would ask us to do so. OUR RELIGION MAKES US WHO WE ARE !!!!

  81. 181

    See because Chucky is GAY
    you know he's gay
he is so totally in the closet
    henceforth
he feels compelled to pretend he's a preacher
or something but let me tell you no straight man
does workout informercials for nine years
in tights who is not SO GAY
    right Prez?

  82. 182

Re: kjmac – i agree…too bad it will never happen because the agenda is really an attack on religion not seeking equal rights

  83. 183

Chuck Norris is so straight, his straightness is used as the mold for every ruler ever made.

  84. 184

Chuck Norris is so straight he turns gays into straights which in the end makes him even hotter and attractive turning ex gay people back to gay.

  85. 185

If you read what he said he is just stating the facts.

Cruel repression and coercion= perez promoting and spreading hate on mormons and individuals for having opposing views on marriage. If you are against gay marriage you are automatically a bigot and a horrible human being? This stinks of all around hypocrisy. You give it, so you get it. Perez, you deserve every last bit of it.

  86. 186

…Bigot. It amazes me how many people don't recognize this type of argument as pure, biased bigotry.

  87. 187

" We're all for people having different points of views", thats a blatant lie Perez, you have shown, repeatedly, that you are an intolerant, lying, hater. Period.

  88. 188

What bugs me the most is that there is a great DISRESPECT to religion because a group of individuals feel like their rights have been taken away by the church goers.

You want respect, than give it. You want people to listen, stop sending suspious packages to church buildings and temples of the LDS church. Protest all you want don't bash an old lady because she isn't supporting what you believe is right. Don't compare this to the civil rights movement. I'm sick of it. I'm sick and tired of people blaming other people. You don't like what the people of YOUR OWN state have voted than rally there. Talk to your congress men, make a change. Just stop bashing other people. Its pathetic.

  89. 189

Re: absolut822 – shut up and read history. IN GOD WE TRUST first appeared on the 1864 two-cent coin. the founding fathers set up this country for religious freedom, meaning you could or could not practice what you wanted. suck a dick.

  90. 190

yep he speaketh the trutheth~ i hate chuck norris well i did, but he makes sense so now i likes him~ go chuck! Hey perez even your momma voted yes on 8!!!

  91. 191

    chuck is right..

  92. 192

I believe in equality, and I believe in loving everyone. With that said, I think a lot of you are very uneducated about this topic. If we choose to legalize "gay marriage", then essentially we are choosing to open it up to being undefined. That's extremely dangerous because there are large and powerful groups like NAMBA (sex after eight is too late) working to legalize other types of marriage and legalize sex with children. Sound ridiculous? Yes, but it is a very real threat to our nation. Legislation is all about wording. If we say marriage can be defined as anything people want, that is very dangerous.

Someone made the comment that homosexuals are born that way. That's what society would like us to think, yet there is NO valid research to support that claim. On the contrary, there is very valid and extensive research that shows very clearly that being sexually abused, or in a boy's case, not having a close relationship with their father (aka, their dad's either not in the picture or is a complete douche) is the most likely cause. This does not make anyone who is homosexual BAD or subhuman in ANY way. We are all human beings and should love each other and support each other. We just need to be educated about legislation and the repercussions of it. PEACE.

  93. 193

Oh, please, gays are not hurting anyone! I'm actually a baptised, born again Christian (you wouldn't know it from my vitriolic posts), yet I believe it is bullshit for people to exclude a person fron society just because they like a person of their same sex. WTF! A gay person can't be a good person? Don't get me started!

  94. 194

Re: knowitall – Look again. I am sure that makes you feel better to think this. You are wrong. Your anger will get you alienated only more. Yes on 8 does not equal white trash or unintelligent or hateful people, however, your aggressiveness will put you in a category of mindless noise.

  95. 195

Also, have you heard of the separation of church and state????

YES!!! God made marriage and the state needs to stay the heck out of it. God said NO to gay marriage; the state has no authority to tell God what to do.

  96. 196

STOP with the gay marriage rants - it's getting VERY old. Worry about something else before the rest of your hair falls out. Find out who Matthew McConaughey used and get some work done. Just sayin!

  97. 197

HEY, HEY, HEY Chuck is good peoples, he visited my hubby in the hospital over in Iraq. So I cant say anything bad about him =]

  98. 198

ironic, considering i know a guy who gave chuck norris a bj a few years ago. just saying…

  99. 199

Re: Monrow – Ever heard of Adam and Eve? This Biblical concept of marriage was around long before Jesus, but still rooted in religion. Nice try, tho.

  100. 200

    Hey everyone,

This is my first post ever, but I need to weigh in here. I am a straight attorney from New York and after truly considering the gay marriage question, it becomes obvious that any ban or restriction on gay marriage is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. First, let me say that, to all of you who supported and continue to support Proposition 8, I have no qualms with your beliefs. Simply put, you are wholly entitled to your opinion and it deserves attention and respect.

Proposition 8 does not pass constitutional muster because of the basic underpinnings of contract law. First, it is a fact that individuals, namely individuals WHO HAVE REACHED MAJORITY AGE AND HAVE CAPACITY TO CONSENT, have the right to enter into contract. It is obvious that homosexuals who wish to marry, at least in the many cases I am aware of, are not minors and have legal capacity to enter into contract. Since it only would be permissible for those who have reached majority age and have capacity to consent to enter into a homosexual union, the concerns about "line drawing" and a "slippery slope" when it comes to who we allow to marry are negated. For example, a dog could not consent to marry a human, nor could a minor child consent to marry because of his or her minority status.
