D. L. Hughley Breaks The News, As Well As Any Facade Of Intelligence
Filed under: Gay Gay Gay > Media Minute > PolitikWhile we commend D. L. Hughley for operating with respect toward guest Dan Savage, a gay activist and writer, despite his conflicting views. We also have to point out that Hughley comes off as an ill-informed ill-articulated moron!!!!
In a discussion regarding Proposition 8, Hughley - who admits he's "not a regular churchgoer" - stutters and flounders in an attempt to hide behind his cafeteria approach to religion: "I can't, for whatever reason, is it my religious upbringing, I don't condone a gay lifestyle."
Oh, we're sorry, we didn't know it was a "lifestyle."
Last time we checked, Perez was born gay - VERY gay!
Savage says that it is the duty of the gay community to reach out, but also "It's the responsibility of white people not to be racist. It's the responsibility of men not to be sexist. And it is a responsibility of all of us not to be homophobic."
Hughley then makes another sweeping generalization, saying he's "never met a black atheist" because "we are so rooted in theology."
Got that? If you're an atheist, you're certainly not black, right?
Because blacks can only be one thing!
But Savage responds more diplomatically.
He says, "It needs to be articulated around religion and homosexuality is that you can have your theology and also sign off on gay and lesbian civil rights and full enfranchisement, including marriage. You know, a lot of Christians think Jews are going to hell. Right? And yet Jews can get married in our culture. No one's attempting to strip Jews of their civil rights in our dominant Christian culture."
Hughley tries to use God as an excuse for hate once again with "You stand before God and you vow to love and to cherish this woman or this man. And so I think people have a — I know particularly people that I talked to — had a hard time unhooking the religious component from the civil."
To which Savage says, "But we've long unhooked the religious component from the civil component because you can go to city hall and get married and God will not be invoked. Those are the marriage licenses that we want. We don't want to storm into anybody's church and force anybody's preacher or any religious person to observe our wedding."
At the end, they tacitly agree to disagree, and Hughley so kindly wishes Savage good luck, saying, "Well I'll tell you what, being black, I can tell you, you got to march a little while longer and then it might happen. I promise."
Well gosh, thanks.
Being black and understanding what it's like to struggle, Hughley should be marching too.
We'd also like to remind you that regardless of race, the under-30 population voted overwhemlingly agrainst Prop 8. This isn't the first time the issue was on the ballot and it certainly isn't the last.
Wether you like it or not, you're going to end up buying a toaster for your friend or relative's gay wedding!
Make sure it matches the curtains, okay?
You can also watch the video here.

Seriously Mario you are such a dick… poor DL has an opinion that is different than yours and you call him a moron. You are really hurting this cause. And just to note- he didn't say people arent born gay… he said being gay is a lifestyle- and guess what- IT IS. And I'm sure all my gay friends and relatives would agree with me.
Re: tntlove – you've never taken genetic biology. we don't know what everything in the human genome tells us. so for all you know, there IS a gene that makes you gay.
Americans are fucktards, plain and simple, just by the uneducated moronic posts on this site. This whole "we won" bullshit, is so indicative of your inability to form an actual intelligent educated response. Just because a majority voted, doesn't mean they're right… Nazi Germany anyone? Um, the past 8 years with your douche President? The US sucks ass and it always will. You people never learn. You're so busy spending millions of dollars to prevent two people from expressing love instead of… oh… giving healthcare to the disenfranchised (that's a big word you probably will have to look it up), your laughable education system (which is clear when you hear most Americans speak), and taking care of your economy! BTW for those who probably won't know where Vancouver is, it's in Canada, which is located up north from you jackasses… USA (Useless Simple Asses)
i think he actually came off as quite intelligent. perez just calls him a moron cuz he doesn't agree with him.
Blacks and Latinos in California voted YES because they are jealous that the gay Latinos and blacks are hotter, wealthier, and throw the best parties.
I am a Christian and i am not a homophobe i have a lot of friends who are gay and have no problem with them. However, I do agree with prop 8 for reasons that being a Christian is more important to me and voting yes does not mean hate. There are some things that other people might not understand but don't you see this is for your own good and for the good of California, for this country. You may not like how this sounds but you'll soon see how God will work wonders in this nation. I know you will say that this is not about religion but isn't the word marriage from religion, isn't marriage also called holy matrimony? God doesn't hate sinners He hates the sin that the person is doing. Therefore 8 is not hate we just hate the decision that people made about being gay. Being gay is not how God made them, they chose to be gay. What rights do gays have to fight for? Equality for what? If gays just turn their back from sin then they don't have to fight for anything God will do that for them. I am not saying that I am not a sinner, but Jesus died on the cross for a reason, for our sins. If they accept Him as their Lord and Savior then they don't have to struggle with anything, they don't need to fight for rights because what Jesus thinks of them is what matters not what people think of gays. I am praying for my friends though because I love them and I want them to know Christ's love is much more than what they chose to be.
anyone who voted Yes on 8 doesn't believe in equal rights is HATEFUL and a BIGOT. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves. All of those people who wanted to get married CAN'T because of your IGNORANCE
Re: alfabravo – no, not really, 2 percent of all gays have a genetic disfunction that makes them be born gay. so it's really weird that a third of male population claims to be gay, though i have no intent to hurt anyone by saying this, or to say someone's not gay. but as a straight person it's a little weird to hear/see that "everybody's" gay.
i don't say that gay people are sick or whatsoever, and maybe they feel as if they were born gay but in fact it's some kind of lifestyle. beeing gay means, in my opinion, that you'll never grow up - you always hang araound with your best friend, you don't have to have kids, you will not get pregnant, nor having a wife that might get pregnant. no worries about that until you want to.
so - the idea behind marriage was to keep children and women safe from poverty and death.

Re: yes on 8 – dude wake up….there is no god….religion is simply a crutch for weak willed people like you who cant hack reality on their own
you see my point? fine. i'm not done yet cause: on the other hand: gays, living in a partnership, are the family of each other. i don't know how exactly the case is handled in the US, but if anyone here has a accident only the family is allowed to know where he is and what has happened, a "friend" won't be informed. when married or living in a civil partnership, the partner will be informed - and i think that is a very important thing. but it's just one thing of many which partners aren't allowed to when not married. and therefor it's important to take care of their issues.
tbc *yawn*
the essence of my essay: i do think that being gay is a lifestyle, wheter gays see or feel like it or not, and i respect every human until he/she hurts me. so, this is nothing against gays. but they have to realize a bit, that it's quite alright to live their lifes their way, but to respect, that there are other ways of living, and to respect, that special treatments are logically (like the "normal" oldfashioned marriage for heteros). beeing gay may be simple living it, but the enviroment may have problems, gay living may mess up the "normal" life (i bet you won't understand what i'm trying to say): they way perez f.e. treats women, the way sex and the city is is sexist. so the rights women have been fighting for are taken apart of gays who can't really understand women. there are other issues, and by reading this blog (i'm awfully bored today) it occurs, that gays want every right no matter what. it seems as if they don't understand that their way of living and their behaviour may cause trouble, may hurt someone.
so - power to the gays, but, perez, and others, make your point, tell people what you want and why you want/need it, and start to understand why people might have their problems with all of what you claim.
i agree perez completley! d.l. hugley should have been more understanding. he has been discrimnated against, so why would he put religion as an excuse for gays to be discriminated against? so dumb!
Re: Hot Monkey Love…Obama Style! – Glad to leave you with some stimulating visuals this evening
When are people going to wake up and realize that being gay is no more of a "lifestyle choice" than being heterosexual? I didn't wake up one day and say "Hey, I'm going to be straight.", and I'm sure my gay best friend didn't wake up one day and say "Hey, I'm going to be gay." Every gay individual I know has told me that they've always known they were gay. Even from the time when they were children, they knew this. Why would someone CHOOSE a lifestyle that will open them up to hate and prejudice?
If D.L. Hughley has never met a black Atheist he needs to meet me!

Re: grader44 – i have trouble believing you think perez is serious. it's called sarcasm. i know he isn't very good at it, but he's trying.
Re: Vancouverite – i really appreciate you lumping all americans into one bag. thanks for that. that's like saying all canadians play hockey and love maple syrup. i agree that we're spending money in the wrong places and so does a majority of the country's voting population. why do you think barack obama is the president-elect? please, do not insult my intelligence by acting as if all americans are the same.
Re: crazyinla –
"such a touchy subject…
i am a christian and i am also married, therefore i believe in the sanctity of marriage. but as a christian it is also my belief that we should not judge or condemn others, because God will judge us all in the end. that being said…just because i don't agree with something doesn't mean i am going to shove my beliefs down someone's throat. everyone is responsible for their own actions and no one else's. and who am i to judge anyway, no one's perfect but God. "
MORE PEOPLE SHOULD THINK LIKE YOU.
Re: knowitall – Actually I have researched on the "gay gene" and in a study of 1,000 gay men less than a quarter of them had this "gay gene" pattern… there can be a straight man with the same genes as a gay man… it is the environment that stimulates the gene… it's called epigenetics. Saying there is a gay gene just makes it easier for some to "explain a way" or give a reason for being gay. I support gay marriage and equal rights for all but I am really mad at "Perez" for hating all over for people for their opinions and twisting there words because he is trivializing the issue and pissing people off. People have the right to an opinion. Going around and scaring people to vote for Prop. 8, Mormom churches and groups donating money to passing 8 when the money could have gone to the needy is wrong, hurting or taunting someone because they are gay is wrong but just simply expressing your opinion is wrong. That is why we live in a democracy. Instead of attacking people who think differently than him, Perez should be educating people.
Re: livelovemusic – "gay" is not a race - the oppression of one group doesn't necessary translate into empathy for another…apples and oranges unless you're Ru Paul. Or Queen Latifah.
Re: Hot Monkey Love…Obama Style! – Thanks! Spank that bitch! My bum needs a rest….
Re: MP – WHICH black community…you can't qualify single parenthood without mentioning which socio-economic class they belong to - the single mom-head-count is as high in any white trailer-park as it is in an African American housing project.
Re: Jenisis – LOL can I come over for Thanksgiving? XO
Re: knowitall – i don't know who you think you are but i do not appreciate YOU generalizing black based on what ONE black man says or acts. i mean can you REALLY speak about all 38 million black people in the U.S., and say that they are bigoted morons? now i will say, i did not agree with hughley, BUT, it is a fact that many, if i can say MOST black people have values deeply rooted in the Christian faith [Baptist, Penecostal or what not] and the Muslim faith. So it should NOT be surprising that about 70% of black voted against prop 8. and yes, that many blacks are NOT athiest not to say there aren't any black atheist. i also don't appreciate stating stereotypes about blacks either… it seems you have no other way to defend your stance on this matter so you turn to attacking someone else? how is that effective?
Why cant Hugley have his own opinion? Why is it WRONG for him to feel a certain way or have an opinion that is different from yours? You play the world police game,,, like making fun of his choice of words when he refers to being gay as a Lifestyle…. he's not gay, he doesnt know how to frame things to suit you Perez. Get over it already,,,, you guys are going to blow it (pardon the pun) because you are so unhappy with life….. it's sad.
Love is love is love. Discrimination is discrimination is discrimination.
Interracial marriage was illegal in some states until 1967 even though the Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964. Anti-miscegenation laws are just as wrong as gay marriage bans.
That said, the Stonewall Riots were in 1969, and yet there is still employment discrimination against LGBT people in most states…We can not forget this. How much longer do LGBT people have to march to get ALL EQUAL RIGHTS?
LGBT people still have work to do, but uh, Hughley, don't worry they won't stop until they do!
"For that is the true genius of America - that America can change. Our union can be perfected. And what we have already achieved gives us hope for what we can and must achieve tomorrow. "
-Barack Obama
Re: Hot Monkey Love…Obama Style! –
My God the US is fucked!
Re: WhowouldJackiedo – JENISIS HAS THE HOTS FOR "FAGS"! GOODNIGHT…GIVE THAT BUM A REST
Re: yes on 8 – I cannot believe your comments and how far they are off the mark from Jesus' message of love and acceptance. You don't know why people are gay-no one does-it is enough that for whatever reasons, they have always been around and deserve equal rights. Your holier than thou attitude turns people away from the Jesus. I pity you that you could be so delusional. There ARE gay Christians in the world (and gay jews, gay mormons, etc). Stop judging-it's not your place and does an extreme disservice to Jesus' message of love.
Re: yes on 8 – OH MY FUCKING GOD ALL FUCKING CHRIST ALL MIGHTY….I ONLY GOT THROUGH HALF OF WHATEVER BULLSHIT YOUR TRYING TO PEDDLE AND HAD TO STOP GET A FUCKING CLUE YOU LOSER GET A FUCKING EDUCATION ON LIFE.
I think we should repeal the right of interracial couples to get married. That would be good right? I don't think God would like that. And those women voting! What's with that? That's got to go. Now if we can just resurrect Hitler to come and conquer the United States we'll be set! Why move forward when we can move backwards.
Re: chiefwiggy – hahahahaha i like you
Re: grader44 –
Perez didn't commend DL. He called him a moron. It may have sounded like he was commending DL but only for being civil about his moronic ways.
haha dl what a fucking idiot
I would like to think that saying yes to Prop 8 was just a response to judges overstepping their boundaries, I because of the amount of blacks and hispanics that said Yes, I think it's just ignorance….kinda like saying only WHITES are RACIST. Ignorant ASS.
Re: AmDram – Oh, give me a break. If you've read any of my post on Perezs' topics regarding Knowitalls comments towards blacks, you would find that I have class, and can communicate in the way YOU think I should speak. No worries, I'm there with you sir. However, Knowitall and I have communicated with each other wuite a few times, and her views(and seemingly yours) are assinine…to think all blacks into her bubble.stereotype. But whatever, think how you want, it's truly no skin off my back. As for DL, this isn't his field, I don't know why he would fix his mouth to say such generalized, also stereotypical, not factual crap. I don't agree with him, which is why I didn't watch. What I read was enough for me to shake my head in dumbfoundedness. Anyway, I'm done. do/say/think what you will.
You bitch and bitch about how you want people to stand up for their views and freedom of speech, but the minute someone says something against your views, you harp on them. I'm sick of hearing about your political views. Shut up for once.
Re: AmDram – Hope you can understand, I had quite a few typos, and missed a word or 2. Fix might be one of them. But you're smart.
Re: FAGS SHOULD BE SMOKED! – HAHAHAHAHA
Re: chiefwiggy – FINALLY!!
sir, you have gotten it right. nail on the head. bingo! score!
Re: Nickysue – NOBODY CARES THAT HE DOESNT AGREE WITH IT BUT IOTS NOT UP TO HIM OR ANYBODY ELSE TO HAVE THE RIGHT TO TRY STOP CIVIL RIGHTS,HOW WOULD HE FEEL IF PEOPLE WERE SITTING ON NATIONAL TV OR RIOTING AGAINST BLACK PEOPLES RIGHTS TO SIT ON A FUCKING BUS????WHAT IDF I JUST SAT ON TV AND THOUGHT WELL IN MY OPINION BEING BLACK IS A LIFESTYLE I DONT AGREE WITH AS A CHRISTIAN I THINK THEY SHOULD WALK TO WORK WHERE THEY CLEAN HOUSES???IMAGINE SOUNDING THAT FUCKING IGNORANT IN THIS DAT AND AGE AND EXPECTING PEOPLE NOT TO RISE UP IN FURY COP THE FUCK ON.
Hate is Hate. I know more homosexual couples who have been together for 30+ years than I know heterosexual couples who can last 7. We have to stop waiting for equality - we have to demand it - in every state of the union! BTW - I'm a heterosexual woman who believes that all Americans are entitled to their Constitutional rights regardless of race, creed, or SEX. Period. One of the most important aspects of our constitution and bill of rights is that church and state are separate. Get your religious asses out of this!
Re: Lucy Noss – i agree 100% people should keep there religous asses out of it.or atleast be smart enough to be able to tell them apart…i ama christian,i am an irish catholic woman and believe that everybody should have there rights no matter what my priests tell me.
wtf Gay is a choice now, i missed that memo. Like how asinine must one be to think that people wake up and choose who they are sexually and emotionally attracted to? The black and latino heterosexual community really upsets me, they use religion for anything they disagree with….black people besides a few are a lot more homophboic than white people, yes i agree with DL that many black people are raised with "religion" i put that in quotes because many have grown up in a family where the Church plays a huge role in the community and have been indoctrinated in certain church views just by proximity, you dont even have to go to a church in a black community to know what is a sin… .but it still doesnt justify peoples use of religion against a group of people…..STOP FORCING YOUR VIEWS ON US is what im trying to say……black people should understand the best….we have struggles soooooo much, yes we may have struggled more openly, but certainly blacks havent struggled longer, Homosexuals have been persecuted for over 1,000 of years, all we want is to be treated as a citizen not a second class citizen…..Also addrssing this issue of gays should just accept what it is…what about MLK and civil disobedience…shouldnt he have just given up, the law is the law isnt it…exactly dont be hypocrits….everyone should be entitled to the same rights….the church is not the state…get over it and keep your religious idealogy to yourself
btw im black and gay
Ok, seriously…Obama would not be prez if he was for gay marriage, its a mouthful for the future prez. Change is gradual…..you can't feed them a heaping plateful of gay, it even took me a while to understand and embrace my gay friends. The civil rights movement is nothing like the african-american civil right movement or women's right movement. Gays deserve their right, but it is going to take time for people to be comfortable with it. I think it is just going to get annoying in a bit….stop trying to hard….you almost won and its not over yet.
Re: Jenisis – DAMN STALKER…STOP WRITING NOVELS! SAY IT..SHORT, HATEFUL AND SWEET!
Re: Wouldyourather – how is the gay rights movement different from the black rights or women's rights movements in the 60s? see, i just don't understand that defense. they were fights for equal rights, equality in the eyes of the law. that's what fighting prop 8 is all about. and just because this movement isn't as violent as those in the 60s does not mean it isn't as important. the reason it isn't as violent is because we learned our lesson during the bloodshed of the 1960s.
.
.
coretta scott king herself has come out against the anti-gay marriage movement. she said that GAY MARRIAGE is a CIVIL RIGHTS ISSUE.
so this movement most certainly can be compared to the civil rights movement of the 60s!
oh and as for those who say that gay people haven't suffered as much as black people, may i point out: thousands of years of being stoned for sexual orientation; the holocaust; hate crimes; and matthew sheppard.
Someone needs to draw the line somewhere. The man was trying to understand. He should at least be applauded for that. It takes a lot of intelligence to say "I'm dead against this, but maybe it should still be legal anyway." You need people like D.L. on your side. If you call them all stupid, good luck getting their vote in 2010! Let's play smart here! Reach out to D.L. and thank him for being open-minded. Don't Smack him down!
oh get over it studies show that 90 percent of black people are christian and 96 percent of americans have some sort of religion. and 85 percent are christian. not stfu about it. face the facts.
Re: ericaxashley09 – 76.5% are christian. do you just like pick random numbers and make shit up? it's on teachingaboutreligion.org
.
.
and the point is that religion should not govern. because of the first amendment, we have the separation of church and state. and just because the overwhelming majority of americans associate with christianity does not mean the overwhelming majority of americans are bigoted people who are afraid to give equal rights to everyone. the people who are fighting so hard against homosexuals are afraid of losing their status as above at least one group of individuals. have you ever heard of the alphabet theory? didn't think so.
Re: Hot Monkey Love…Obama Style! – A. well aren't you the pot calling the kettle black. Stalker, bahumbug.
B. A simple solution for my "novel" writing being bothersome to you, is for you to maybe not read it. I mean, I don't know it's a thought, especially if it wasn't to you. See what happenes when you stick your nose in grown folks business?
I am VERY much for gays having the right to marry - whom you choose to love is your choice and that state should have no involvement in whether or not you choose to love somebody of the same or opposite sex….with that being said, however, Perez, you are SUPER biased. I understand this is an issue affecting you, but you attack EVERYBODY on here who doesn't agree with what you believe. D.L. Hughley doesn't believe in gay marriage, and while I don't agree with Hughley's beliefs, he still had a proponent of gay marriage on his show arguing in favor of gay marriage. D.L. Hughley is obviously TRYING to broaden his viewpoint in some way. But you just attack anybody you don't agree with. For the self-dubbed "queen of all media", you are an awful presenter of the issues.
Re: dunzoooo –
are gays not allowed into the same schools as everyone else? do gays have to drink from separate water fountains? do gays have to sit at the back of a bus? The civil rights movement of the 60's is much much much different.
I have a hard time feeling sympathetic towards those against prop 8 who are now attacking African Americans for voting yes. They feel discriminated against so in return they start making racist statements. It also seems that a lot of gays feel like the African Americans are supposed to be indebted to them because of the civil rights movement. That makes no sense to me. I think anyone attacking Hughley is ridiculous. He was very kind and considerate to his guest, they disagreed, but very respectfully. I honestly don't agree with Hughley on everything, but I respect him.
Re: Jenisis – NOT A STALKER…HARD TO MISS 5 FUCKEN LONG ASS POSTS! AGAIN, STOP TAKING "UPPERS"…JUST SAY NO!
Re: jefdo – i never condoned the racism that has stemmed from the backlash; i'm just saying this is the modern-day civil rights movement. i don't understand how people can't see that. gays are seen as second-class citizens right now in california because they do not have the same rights as everyone else. a lot of people on here are saying it has absolutely no comparison with the civil rights movement of the 60s. if mlk jr.'s widow herself supports calling this the civil rights movement of the 21st century, i don't understand why people are so outraged at the comparison. i'm not trying to take away from the horrors black people have suffered in this country, i'm just trying to make the readers on here see that there's no lack of suffering or civil injustice in this case. that was the point i was trying to make.
You have all the rights a citizen has already. You're only talking about Marriage, which is in essence a contract between a MAN and WOMAN! You want something which is NOT meant for a MAN and MAN; just like a MAN and DOG can't marry; just like a MAN and TREE cannot marry. Call it something else and make it a contract, and it can be YOURS, all yours! Doesn't that make sense, call it something else and it can be only for homosexuals. That's empowerment.
Re: Sgirl –
Eww, you're gross and kind of a stupid cunt.
Re: jojo123 – Oh yeah, me too! Hahahahahah! Yes on 8!!!
Re: NotQueerAtAll – oh my god you really are the most stupid one on here….congratulations your a fucking idiot, please collect your trophy at the door and get the fuck out of here.
Re: dunzoooo – Yeah, I'm well aware. Trust me, it won't be overturned. Why would these morons want to force people to see it their way? Would that really mean anything? Marriage is between a man and a woman. Marriage is not between two men or two women. I don't give two shits how much people whine and bitch about it, it will not change the fact that people have no respect for something like that. Marriage is not for gays - PERIOD! YES on 8 - not hate. The most hate I have ever seen are in the comments of the people who are against 8 - go figure!???
Re: jefdo –
You act as if homosexuals during the 60's were treated with respect….i promise you the only reason why Homosexuals arent really represented in the Civil Rights Movement is because you can't tell if someone is gay…yeah maybe some you can but for most parts, you can hide it, or you just dont fit the typical gay male or female image……yes blacks were specifically targeted but dont pretend that WE ( i am black) were the only one's to be subjected to discrimination and racism…..2nd homosexuals do not feel blacks are indebted, they feel blacks are being hypocritical…a large percentage of blacks today still feel like 2nd class citizens but then they go and block the rights of another group who are being put down…sounds hypocritical to me…..People are making this a religious issue, and it isnt, its a civil issue…people should have the right to form a contract between two consenting adults to establish future security…..why deny two people who love each other not to be able to do anything when there loved one isnt able to make a decision simply because they're homosexual? Also it angers me that churches can donate to political causes and preach politics in church but still are tax exempt….if anything church donations should be voided unless its for a charity or something….the church has NO position in politics!!
Re: Sgirl – fuck you
Re: Pwn3d! – i agree
Re: dunzoooo –
I'll have to respectfully disagree. I really don't think the two are on the same level. Not being able to get married isn't really suffering. What African Americans went through was far worse. I don't think they're being treated as second class citizens. Other than not being able to marry they're getting as many rights as the rest of us. There's gays in the media, in government, having the same jobs as everyone else. If gays were truly second class citizens could Perez have this blog? Think of the backlash African American's received during the civil rights movement when speaking out. Perez can say what he pleases now because our country's come so far. Perez accuses everyone who voted for prop 8 as terrible hateful people, but in turn he spreads hate against them. He's not helping his cause. He generalizes everyone in Utah as gay-hating mormons, yet he criticizes Hughley's comment about never meeting a black atheist. Hughley was just pointing out that many African Americans are very faithful to their religion. Perez was making hateful generalizations. If I were a mormon or from Utah I would take offense.
Re: Sgirl – GO FIGURE MY ASS.YOUD BE ANGRY TOO I WENT INTO YOUR HOUSE AND TOLD YOU WANT YOU CAN AND CANT HAVE IN LIFE WITHIN OUR CIVIL RIGHTS.AND YOU WILL BE PISSED WHEN ITS YOUR KIDS THAT RE BEING DISCRIMINATED AGAINST.AND WHEN ONE OF YOUR KIDS OR ONE OF YOUR KIDS FRIENDS OR YOUR OWN FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER IS DEAD THROUGH SUICIDE BECAUSE OF THE LIFE THEY HAVE TO KEEP SECRET FROM THE LIKES OF YOU OR FEELS THAT YOU DONT BELIEVE THAT THEY HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS AS YOU THEN THAT BLOOD WILL BE ON YOUR HANDS TOO.SO YOUR THE HATER YOUR THE FUCKING IDIOT WHOS WORRIED ABOUT WHAT THEIR NEIGHBOR IS DOING BECAUSE YOUR OWN LIFE IS SO FUCKING EMPTY.WHY DO YOU CARE WHAT OTHERS DO SO MUCH WHY DO YOU HAVE SO MUCH TIME TO CARE WHO WANTS TO GET MARRIED AND SHIT,WHY ARE YOU KIND OF PEOPLE RAISING SO MUCH MONEY TO FIGHT THIS WHEN YOU SHOULD BE MORE WORRIED ABOUT CHILD MOLESTERS AND DRUG DEALERS AND ALL THAT KINDA SHIT.I REALLY COULD GIVE A SHIT IF ADAM AND STEVE GOT MARRIED I REALLY COULDNT GIVE A SHIT AND I REALLY CANT GET MY HEAD AROUND WHY PEOPLE DO. I REALLY HOPE THAT YOU HAVE A GAY CHILD AND CHANCES ARE YOU WILL AND THEY COME TO YOU SOME DAY AND OPEN YOUR MIND AS TO HOW STUPID YOU SOUND.
Re: Sgirl – are you MENTAL???? we have the supreme court in order to interpret the constitution and make sure that states are giving their citizens equal rights. it has the final say on the constitutionality of acts or laws that have been passed and given that the constitution and its amendments were written to ensure equal rights i'd say yeah, the supreme court will overturn prop 8. in fact, it won't even get to the federal level of the supreme court because this is a clear-cut case. proposition 8 is WRONG. you just should do everyone a favor and stop talking out of your ass.
Re: jefdo – FIRSTLY THERE ARE HATE CRIMES OUT THERE AND QUITE A LOT BUT I DONT THINK PEOPLE ARE SAYING THE OUT AND OUT ABUSE THAT BLACK PEOPLE WENT THROUGH ARE THE SAME BUT THE POINT BEHIND CIVIL RIGHTS ARE THE SAME.AND AS FOR HUGHLEY,SO WHAT IF BLACK PEOPLE ARE RELIGIOUS ,WHATS THAT GOT TO DO WITH CIVIL RIGHTS.I THINK THE PEOPLE THAT CANNOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RELIGION AND LAW SHOULD NOT BE LET VOTE….IF YOUR THAT FUCKING STUPID YOUR RIGHTS SHOULD BE TAKEN AWAY FROM YOU JUST AS YOU TRY TO TAKE GAY PEOPLES.AND THEY DO NOT HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP SAYING THAT.IF THEY DID WE WOULD BE ALL CRAZY AND ON HERE TALKING ABOUT SOMETHING THAT DOES NOT EXIST.THEY DO NOT HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS AND ITS EVIL PEOPLE LIKE YOU THAT ARE TRYING TO KEEP IT THAT WAY WHY DONT YOU GET YOURSELF A SLAVE THERE WHILE YOUR AT IT.
Re: dunzoooo – YEAH BRAVO HA HA
" ill-articulated" ?????/ are you kidding, you fat, creepy sub-literate….
ill-articulated.. ha ha, what a pretentious dumb-ass you are Perez, grow a brain
Re: jefdo – well the huffington post actually wrote a good piece on how gay people suffer from workplace discrimination worse than minorities or women. i do agree that we've come very far and that's why the backlash isn't as big. but there is a backlash. proposition 8 is the backlash. it's trying to prevent gay people from doing everything i can do with my boyfriend. and i must say, yoyo91 made a very good point: homosexuals were not focused on in the 60s because you can't tell the difference between a hetero- and a homosexual person just by looking at him.
.
we have the brave men and women who fought and died for equal rights alongside MLK and Betty Friedan to thank for the fact that homosexuals are not suffering on the scale of black people and women.
so, my point is, agree to disagree. i think it is a little unfair to say that just because there has not been written or photographic evidence of the suffering of gay people, it cannot be compared to black people. you just have to think about how gay people have been stoned to death since people realized then men have sex with other men and women with other women. and homosexuals were the #2 target of the Nazis during the Holocaust. and we are lucky to live in the United States but in countries like Iran and Dubai, a homosexual can be sentenced to death for loving someone of his own gender.
Re: dunzoooo –
By no means am I saying gays have not experienced suffering, I just think from a civil rights stand point, African Americans in this country went through more. We can agree to disagree, unlike some others on here although I don't agree with you on everything you can atleast be civil about it without making racist remarks or playing the blame game. I think if those against prop 8 feel like they're being hated they shouldn't try to spread hate in return, it won't help the cause.
Re: jefdo – i indeed agree that fighting hate with hate gets you nowhere! nice debating with you.
It's sad that as America took a big step forward it also took a big step back, saying that I thought that Hughley was respectful for the most part except at the end, gays have been around for a long time fighting for equality, longer than the african americans even.
America just needs to wake up and realize that everyone deserves the same treatment regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation.
Why did CNN give him a job? May be one day we can change the way some black people decide to get on tv and speak for all black people. This is ridiculous. His rating probably reflect the 10 friends who watch is baboonery on CNN. BTW who is he?
perez keep on fighting ..from one gay male to another …this propH8 is a wrong against ..the quote un quote american dream and anybody that that supports this hate law is =is a Nazi
Perez Hilton is Gay Man. He is also a Hollywood Gossip Reporter with a twist on Current Events. Obviously Prop 8 is a Topic he will talk about because it's effects him. If you don't want to read about it them simply scroll down. It's that simple. Just like when I come one here don't care to read about for example Jonas Brothers. I by pass it. Try it it works. I think what everyone need's to learn from this mes is tolerance and acceptance of people regardless of our differences. Marriage is no longer a sacred act. With divorce at a all time high and Shot-gun weddings at places like Las Vegas . The truth is Government just doesn't want too or can't afford to offer more tax brakes. You're only rewarded if you pro-create or marry to add to the Population. I think it's Bullshit.
If blacks are so rooted in theology why is the out of wedlock birthrate in the black community 70%? Why do black men have multiple children with multiple women and then leave them? Re: MP –
We made fornication, adultery, out of wedlock births, and all other forms of sexual sin, more permissive, thereby guaranteeing a devaluing of the traditional concepts of marriage and the family.
Matthew 24:12 states: "Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold."
A black co-worker told me that welfare destroyed the black family. He said that the government(which encourages welfare dependency) has replaced the black man as husband and father.
anyone who voted Yes on 8 doesn't believe in equal rights is HATEFUL and a BIGOT. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves. All of those people who wanted to get married CAN'T because of your IGNORANCE Re: hard_candy –
LOL! Who gives a shit what a Vadgedonna fan thinks, for fuck's sake? You're ignorant of what real music is. You ought to be ashamed to admit that you think Madonna is a legitimate musician.
It is sad when someone who has their own show is ill-informed and repeatedly askes the same question in different variations. What was CNN doing? D.L. Hueghly is NO Dave Chappelle, and you know that they are trying to recreate that magic. Dave Chappelle is a brilliant, hilarious dude, and Breaking the News and Chocolet News fails horribly in comparison! As for Dan Savage? Give him a show!
DL hughley has NO business doing a news show. He is a comedian - and not even good at that.
Re: J-Dub RN – You want to know who KNOWITALL is? It's Perez or one of his flunkeys! Look at his grammar and spelling and even his name, because he thinks he knows it all. He pretty much only comments on the shit where Prop 8 is brought up.
Re: heygirlhey223 – You can't married because your IQ isn't high enough. That's what my religion tells me, and therefore it must be enforced on everyone. Stupid people can't get married or reproduce.
.
Okay, how fucking retarded is D. L. Hughley? He said it bothers him that people compare the gay struggle with the black one. It bothers him? When all the gay bashing is still going on ALL over the world including civilized places like the US. You can't get killed today for being gay still, and it bothers him? Fuck him. Gay people in the US of A, land of the free, are still being treated like second class citizens, rights being taken away, and it bothers him that people would compare gay and black struggles? Fuck him.
What are all the woes about Perez, he voted NO on Prop 8!
I sometimes feel like the media is trying to put all of us who are on the same battle field against each other. Gays, Blacks, Whites, we should be all fighting together against the "MAN" I mean, really lets RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE bitches! And lets stop fighting eachother!
perez you should read dan savage's blog and column, you'd probably dig him.
You keep complaining about equal rights; and you have equal rights.
Sorry, but being religious is NOT the same as being a theologist.
"It's the responsibility of white people not to be racist. It's the responsibility of men not to be sexist."

Yes that is correct, but is okay for blacks and latinos to be racist, and it is ok for woment to be sexist… Did he just compare being gay to being Jewish? Wow…. Now I know why I don't watch CNN lol
DL Hughley should go kill himself
first of all i'm not even sure why d.l. has a show on cnn…second, i am black and kind of irritated that d.l. implied that all black people share his point of view because we don't…i think that there is a great lack of understanding of prop 8 within the black and latino community…it is unfortunate that it passed
Who is this DL Hughley and how did such an incredibly inarticulate and unbiased person get a job as a media commentator?? (Im Irish so I've never heard of him). He's an idiot. And as for the comments left by some people defending Dan Savage- saying that after hearing this they now thing all blacks are 'uneducated bigots' is a statement just as sweeping and stupid as any of 'DL's' arguments. Seriously people, this is about personal liberty something the US was founded on, and cannot just to be fitted to suit your ignorant views.
D.L. Whatshisface is ignorant and stupid. I don't understand why CNN would put this idiot on their network. He's not even funny! I guess they just needed some black guy to fill in their usually all white spots. For peanuts. That show is going to be cancelled fast. Another religious idiot who is out of touch with reality.
I saw that CNN had him for some "funny" segments….I think they want him to be the black Jon Stewart - but he's not nearly as witty, endearing, or intelligent as Stewart.
They need to flush this turd.
The Host (whoever he is) is uneducated and boring. Obama / Biden came out and said NO to "Marriage" for Gays. They said Union. Gay people that voted Obama for selfish reasons are going to be shocked. You vote on many issues. OK..the dude being interviewed is right. All the bible beaters relax, ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE. Thanks..no other explanation. I have never seen the Elvis in Las Vegas giving Communion…NOT ALL MARRIAGES ARE IN A CHURCH OR RELIGIOUS…
Re: knowitall – Wow…I'm black and I fully support gays' rights. Also, I'm college educated, never lived in a bad neighborhood in my life, have no children…and aren't gangs a 90s thing?
Re: knowitall – …oh, and I'm agnostic by the way.
AND PLUS IF WHITE TRASH BREEDERS CAN HITCH UP….WHY DO WE WANT TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH THAT? LORD THE ONE THING WE HAVE AS GAY MEN IS STYLE, LOOKS, AND A GREAT WAY TO SEE THROUGH BULLSHIT….WOULDN'T TRADE THAT TO BE A FAT STRAIGHT BEER GUZZLIN” MARRIED GUY WITH 6 KIDS…DEMOGRAPHICALLY WE AS COUPLES MAKE MORE MONEY AND STILL HAVE MONEY DURING THIS GOVERMENT SHIT STORM…I KNOW I'M STILL BUYIN' ..LET ALL OF THEM VOTE AGAINST IT!!!! WHO WANTS TO BE LUMPED WITH THE TRASH ANYWAY!
Re: aearly1 – No, no there isn't! It was an excellent point! )And I'm a Jew so I can say this). ALL PEOPLE DESERVE CIVIL RIGHTS! That was the point! No one is trying to take away Jew's civil rights even though this is mostly a Christian country and no one should take away gay civil rights even though this is mostly a straight country (well, 80 percent straight, anyway). Every, everyone deserves civil rights!!!!!!!!!!
What an idiot! He's never met a Black atheist? I would love to meet him. I'm half Black & Brazilian and I am an Atheist!! He probably never met other Black atheits because, they are scared to really come out and talk about it. I would to meet him.
Re: stcjanell – Wise, wise statement!
