Detroit's auto CEOs can suck it hard.

So the CEOs of Ford (Alan Mulally), Chrysler (Robert Nardelli) and GM (Rick Wagoner ) were in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday begging the government (i.e. YOU, cuz it's the tax money you've paid) for billions of dollars because their businesses have gone to shit.
Sounds like there was quite a bit of histrionics from the trio. They claimed that they'll likely go out of business without a bailout.
Anyway, this didn't stop the CEOs from traveling in private, company owned, luxurious jets to get to D.C.
First class wasn't good enough????
They should be flying coach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ABC News reports that Wagoner's private jet trip to Washington cost the ailing GM an estimated $20,000 roundtrip.
In comparison, seats on Northwest Airlines flight 2364 from Detroit to Washington were going online for $288 coach and $837 first class.
WTF?
Couldn't the 3 have 'planepooled' at least? They were going to the same place!
Tom Schatz, President of Citizens Against Government Waste said, "This is a slap in the face of taxpayers. To come to Washington on a corporate jet, and asking for a hand out is outrageous… It appears that the senior management of the automakers simply don't get it."

The Ford CEO told Congress that he's cut expenses, laid-off workers and closed 17 plants.
But, get this.
Ford continues to operate a fleet of eight private jets for its executives!!!!
The ABC report goes on to say that on Tuesday, one jet was taking Ford honchos to Los Angeles, another on a trip to Nebraska.
John McElroy of the TV show, Autoline Detroit said, "Now's not the time to do that sort of thing. Now's the time to be humble and show that you're sharing equally in the sacrifice."
When us regular folks are short on cash we sell things to make ends meet right?
GM has 8 luxury jets in its fleet and apparently does NOT plan on selling any of them in this time of 'crisis'. Note, the jet their CEO used to get to DC cost the company $36 million.
President-Elect Obama has advocated for a bailout of the U.S. car companies.
We hope any auto bailout that the soon-to-be President stamps with his seal of approval incorporates some sort of oversight re. executive 'privileges'.
It's infuriating to think that execs could live lavishly on the backs of tax payers, most of whom are struggling to make ends meet!

Yes, it is easy to say let them go bankrupt but if you live in the state of Michigan, like I do, everyone is affected by this. Almost everyones parents or family members work for the auto industry. I think they should get rid of the planes and private things like that obviously but I don't know if letting the huge auto industrys go bankrupt is the right answer. Oh well!

You want to make employment go back up? Fix our economy? Everyone has such a problem with outsourcing but seem to have absolutely no problem buying Hondas and Toyotas and other foreign shit. If they liquidated their assets, they would be out of business forever. Besides, the avg autoworker earns far more than the average worker in this country because of the union stanglehold on the automakers. This and management's failure to innovate has put the American auto industry at a marketing disadvantage to compete worldwide. Blame the big 3 and the unions, not republicans.
If there isnt an bailout.. the rest of the country goes down the tubes.. People like my brother who work for Ford, will be out of a job and will not be able to buy products out on the market, wont be able to travel and wont be able to pay for luxuries such as getting your haircut at a nice salon, which will then affect my business (the hair industry) therefore i wont be able to do any of the above either. Because of these assholes my husband has been unemployed since July and we are struggling to keep our house, vehicles etc. Our credit, which was 100% is now going to shit! My husband is working an 9 dollar an hr. temp job just to pay some bills. These crooks do not deserve a dime! Let them fail! I voted for Obama and now sometimes I wonder why. No one thinks about the suppliers they have put out of business because they go overseas for cheaper labor and product. You do realize that it's a security threat for Wagner, Mulally and Nardelli go take "regular" planes, right? Every damn CEO is flying on a private get because it's what needs to be done. Those jets are a necessity to running a giant international business. Maybe that's something a guy whose business involves little more than a laptop wouldn't get, but to those of us who live within the GM system, it's a necessary evil.
The unfortunate reality is that if an auto manufacturer goes under, thousands and thousands of people lose their jobs - and that means massive drains on government funds too.
The trick will be to help the workers without rewarding the executives.

I have been employed at General Motors for the last nine years. So I see first hand a lot more than the general public sees. I also hear all the crap about the "spoiled" auto workers on the news and it is beyond frustrating. Everyone I work with wonders where the media gets all their info? Do they inflate the truth to get a rise out of the public? They must, cause its working. All I can say is that like all of my co-workers, we are worried sick at what has become of our futures. I wish(as I'm sure millions of us do) that all the big 3 execs would have run the companies more efficiently. Let's keep focus on the execs, not the hard working union members. We can only build what they tell us. And let's remember, they do offer over 24 vehicles that get over 30mpg. I am proud to be a union member. So stop blaming the unions for the demise. The UAW didn't tell GM to keep building vehicles the public didn't want. The UAW is there to make sure I'm paid fair overtime pay and decent health benefits. I know there is plenty of times when the plant I worked at reached over 110 degrees in the summer and I had to lift over 10,000lbs. of weight on an 8hr shift….I work HARD for my money. So let's hope if there is a bailout, that there will be some serious strings attached to it. I, like many of you, are pissed at the way the execs have handled things(private jets included). But to not have a bailout(with strings attached) would be economical suicide.

Most people who are starting up companies or have ones that are failing invest everything THEY own into them. With the salaries that these 3 knuckleheads make and have made, that's more than enough to cover the money that they're asking for. Let them help themselves first and then ask for a loan if they don't have enough money to cover everything.
I worked for years at an auto plant (uaw) and got laid off every year I worked there until ultimately my job was sent to Mexico, meanwhile the head office employees were having catered meals brought in and big bonus checks were given to them while we were axed.
Re: Drea6885 – why would i want to buy a cheaply made overpriced piece of crap from Ford that only gets 25mpg… when i can buy my nice Toyota Corolla for around 20,00 (upgraded) and get 41+mpg and a nicely made product….Hmmm….lets think about that for minute
(my husband owns a ford, i own a toyota….guess who's car gets driven EVERYDAY FOR EVERYTHING, and guess whos truck sits in the driveway unused for weeks unless we have to haul anything or pick up big packages etc…)

Lets continue on with you Californians, the land of radical agenda-driven environmentalists, who blame Detroit for "every" environmental problem (as the root of all problems), who steadfastly refuse to acknowledge that Detroit has any fuel efficient cars and then in turn give Toyota a free "green" pass –a company that makes the Tundra, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, and Tacoma, which are segment leaders in having the worst gas mileage. You Californians achieve the height of hypocrisy by blaming and lecturing Detroit on emissions but then engage in disgustingly wasteful use of water, causing in some cases whole lakes and underground aquifers in CA and surrounding States to dry up.
