Los Angeles Councilman Dennis Zine is seeking legislation that would ban paparazzi within 20 feet of schools, hospitals, and medical facilities.
The proposal, introduced by Zine this week, comes as a result of a “new breed of paparazzi,” who are more aggressive than ever.
Zine has long been a crusader for celebrities’ right to peace and privacy. He earlier attempted to enact a “personal safety zone” ordinance, that would have required paps to remain a certain distance from celebs, but did not ban the use of long lenses. So while the paps could still get the shot, at least celebs could get to their cars without having to wade through a sea of shutterbugs.
But the bill stalled when the LAPD deemed it “unnecessary and unenforceable.”
This new ordinance would protect “sensitive-use locations” at which the presence of ‘razzis currently annoys both celebs and citizens alike. Zine said, “The goal is to have a safe area where people can conduct themselves . . . so we don’t have the chaotic circumstances we now encounter.”
Makes sense to us!
Who wants to be photographed sniffling to the doctor’s…or leaving a plastic surgeon’s office?!
