Oh, and have of you commenters, let me see you do a scale or a run like she did throughout the song and have it sound good. It's not really easy to hit EVERY NOTE in a scale perfectly like she did. Go practice your damn chromatics and take some music theory classes. She can sing, face it.

I'm sorry, she was awful. She has a good voice but I cannot stand when people feel they need to make the national anthem their "own" by adding so many notes to "pop" it up. Sing the f'ing song the way it was written. All the extra ornamentation just made you sound stupid.

Well, that was REALLY good at parts, but its started off rough and her vibrato is shaky. She clearly has more TECHINCAL skill than Miley, but miley has a much cooler, huskier tone.

It's not about you. It's not about how you stack up to the other people who sang the song before you.
I think a selfless version of the Star spangled banner is a hundred times more beautiful than the contrived shit people try to sing.
It cracks me up that there are people here saying they were at the game and that it was good. My family and I go every year and I can tell you everyone around, including us, were laughing at her attempt at high notes and runs. It was AWFUL live. So, in answer to big question……she ain't no better, but she is better to look at.

ITA. If people actually took music lessons learned the scales, vocal pitches and vocal registers they would understand that she hit most notes she had to hit, and that she did it well.
There is a huge lack in music education and it's being felt, when people claim Miley Cyrus is a better singer than Demi Lovato. Hands down, Demi's got the voice. Miley has a small range voice.
Are you freakin' serious? Check this out, I was in the kitchen when the music started, when all of a sudden I heard this screeching noise and my ears started bleeding! When it was all over, they announced who it was, I thought "my God, THIS is the chick Perez is so high on?" It was the first time I'd ever heard her sing, and it was one of the worst things I've ever heard in my life!

I am going to disagree with you. I have been musically trained and believe you me, to you it might be terrible, but she actually has a very strong voice and hits the notes. Problem is people are not used to singers like her, because most singers are terrible and undersing songs, so if people belt it out it's often called 'terrible' even though it's not. She has a very good mezzo-soprano vocal range, and this is an extremely difficult song to sing that some great singers can't master, so I do give her kudos, even if she was off in a few places.
She can sing. I'll give you that.
But her rendition sucked.
She dragged every word.
It was fucking annoying.

I have no real preference and it wasn't that great. her pitch was very off in the beginning and she belts too much. when she doesn't she sounds fine, but belting out higher notes never sounds too pretty. it was good. she's got real talent for being only sixteen. so does miley.

She is horrible. She has poor ear training, terrible vibrato, and no sense of phrasing, range continuity, or technique. In fact, that was more pitched yelling than actual singing. She sounds like a typical American girl who likes to sing, but doesn't know how. Her specific look and personality brought her to the national stage, and now she gets to steal the spotlight from talented people who actually deserve it. However, I like that she doesn't seem trashy and stupid like Miley, and even with all of her singing problems, she's a far better singer than Miley. I predict that her if her career survives the post-Disney-tween hell, she will be an actress in family comedy movies.
unfortunately, she screamed a lot. but i understand, i've had to sing the star spangled banner and its NOT easy. those notes aren't easy to hit, it takes a lot of practice. she does a ton of fuctunation also, which isn't good either. it can strain your voice even more especially when shes trying to hit those notes!

The third note was so sharp that I stopped listening. Terrible. I really expected this to be much better based on your opinion up there…but then again, I hate her CD too and think she doesn't have much talent, she just happens to be less slutty than Miley.
