Black Friday Turns Deadly at a New York Wal-Mart

Our thoughts go out to the family of Jdimytai Damour, the Wal-Mart employee who was TRAMPLED TO DEATH by early morning shoppers at a New York Wal-Mart.
The New York Times reports that at about 4:55 am on Friday, a crowd of more than 2,000 who had come out for holiday deals forced their way into the Valley Stream, NY store. The six or so workers manning the front could not hold the unruly crowd back. Witnesses said the doors shattered and 'the shrieking mob surged through in a blind rush for holiday bargains. and Jdimytai Damour was 'thrown back onto the black linoleum tiles and trampled in the stampede that streamed over and around him.'
The detective in charge of the investigation said the store lacked adequate security.
He also went on to call the scene “utter chaos” and said the “crowd was out of control" and that those who ran over the victim could face criminal charges.
“I’ve heard other people call this an accident, but it is not. Certainly it was a foreseeable act,” said the detective.
A witness told the media that shoppers behaved badly even as the store was being cleared AFTER the death, “When they were saying they had to leave, that an employee got killed, people were yelling, ‘I’ve been on line since yesterday morning. They kept shopping.”
Unbelievable.
How can you not know that you were stepping all over a human?!?

That's one of the sadest thing really. They also mentionned that a pregnant woman got hurt… WTF was she doing there? Seriously! I find it crazy that people spend so much time waiting in line to shop, when they could be spending quality time with their family.
They should have barricaded all exits, once everyone got inside. Then smuggled out employees only. Then torched the entire place.
Would have statistically raised the I.Q. on Long Island 2 to 3 points.

I'm not sure if Americans do Boxing Day like Canadians north of the border here. I've waited in line at Best Buy and Future Shop on Boxing Day and nobody acts like a crazed animal barging through the doors, but waits in line patiently for their turn to be let in. I don't know how shopping makes people turn so violent, this is sad and pathetic for all those losers who refused to leave the store after being told of a death. I don't give a shit how long you were waiting in line, there is no price/value to place on a human life!!!

This is obviously a sad incident, but it could have totally been avoided. First off, I agree that people are animals, and with that being said; you would think that the store security would have lined everyone up in a single (or even double) file line as to prevent utter chaos. Secondly, if they (the management/store security) were responsible and they gave a shit about safety; they would have only allowed "x" amount of people in the store at a time. The more people that are gathered simultaneously in one area; the lower the collective common sense will be. Lastly, some blame must go to the ignorant animals who stormed through the doors.
Once again, this horrific incident could have easily been avoided!
I hope those fuckers enjoy their $100 DVR players which will likely be broken in about a year. Take a guys life just to save $20 have they not have any respect for human kind.

first, for the person who stated that only blacks were on tv-Valley Stream is a mixed community. It also borders on Jamaica and the Rockaways, both with large pop. of black people. Now-as for the crowd-other walmarts on the island have the same problem. 3 years ago, my husband brought my son (10) to the black friday sale. There was no line to get in, just a crowd. And when the employees went to open the store, my husband said it looked like locust descending-everyone running out of their cars. My son got a shopping cart and was pushed with the crowd and nearly passed out from the pressure of everyone pushing. SO, it is possible to be pushed by the back of the crowd into the store and over someone. THOUGH, at that point, unless you are having an anxiety attack, you should know you walked all over someone. and stay to help and/or notify someone. My son was hysterical for the entire day after it happened to him and I believe if he fell he would have been hurt or god forbid, killed by the animals. what is even more disgusting at this store was everyone went off and kept shopping. and when paramedics were working on this man, they were nearly trampled. all for a christian holiday. Hope the tramplers have a very merry christmas

Yes, this is a very bad neighborhood but all the wal-marts on long island attract white trash and low class blacks…no offense anyone but its true. Stores that advertise these limited specials are preying on people who want a super good deal. Whether it’s the people that don’t have much to spend or people that have to have a rock bottom price on an item, Wal-Mart and other stores target that type of shopper to stand in line for hours before the doors open. The price is only good for the first 10, 50, or whatever customers so time is the essence. First come, first served. Then the crowd mentality takes over and then it is near riot stage when the doors open. Wal-Mart has the responsibility for crowd control. They set themselves up for lawsuits when they act so negligent as to not have any crowd control when they advertise to have crowds waiting for the store to open.
This is so sad. And it's disgusting that while these people will be having fun in their holidays, this man's family will be mourning over his loss. I hope those people that acted like ANIMALS go to hell where they belong.

Walmart has never cared about the safety or security of its employees, as evidenced by their health insurance coverage which lags far behind national average. In 24 states, Wal-Mart leads the list of companies with the most employees and dependents enrolled in state-funded health care programs.
A Minnesota judge ruled that Wal-Mart violated the law more than 2 million times over a six-year period by denying workers time for breaks and forcing them to work "off the clock" for no pay. Walmart is a company that does not care about its employees or shoppers. This senseless tragedy would not have occured if Walmart had ensured security the morning of the sale. Thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Mr. Damour.

What is the point of Black Friday anyway? Here in Oz, we have Boxing Day (day after Christmas) sales, but that's basically to help stores get rid of excess stock at a discount before brining in the new year's items. I don't get doing it before the holidays?
