Black Friday Turns Deadly at a New York Wal-Mart

Our thoughts go out to the family of Jdimytai Damour, the Wal-Mart employee who was TRAMPLED TO DEATH by early morning shoppers at a New York Wal-Mart.
The New York Times reports that at about 4:55 am on Friday, a crowd of more than 2,000 who had come out for holiday deals forced their way into the Valley Stream, NY store. The six or so workers manning the front could not hold the unruly crowd back. Witnesses said the doors shattered and 'the shrieking mob surged through in a blind rush for holiday bargains. and Jdimytai Damour was 'thrown back onto the black linoleum tiles and trampled in the stampede that streamed over and around him.'
The detective in charge of the investigation said the store lacked adequate security.
He also went on to call the scene “utter chaos” and said the “crowd was out of control" and that those who ran over the victim could face criminal charges.
“I’ve heard other people call this an accident, but it is not. Certainly it was a foreseeable act,” said the detective.
A witness told the media that shoppers behaved badly even as the store was being cleared AFTER the death, “When they were saying they had to leave, that an employee got killed, people were yelling, ‘I’ve been on line since yesterday morning. They kept shopping.”
Unbelievable.
How can you not know that you were stepping all over a human?!?

Re: trance2dance – It wasn't in LA. It was in Palm Desert which is a "suburb" of type to Palm Springs. Which is 2 hours from LA. It wasn't because of Black Friday. It was some dispute between 2 women and their men got involved and shot and killed each other. Thank God that no one else was killed. Even as they took the one woman out and put her in the cop car the other bitch was screaming that she was going to kill her. I hope the cops put those 2 women in the same cell and let them beat the shit out of each other. If I had gone shopping on Friday that was the Toys R Us that I would've went to. Thank God I don't do Black Friday anymore. It's not fucking worth it.

I'm sad to say that this store is right by where i live. It's terrible and saddening to see that people would trample on some poor innocent man for 20% on a digital camera or a new CD. My father who has friends in the police department told me that the people in the store, even after the man was trampled on were knocking down the paramedics and police officers that were there trying to help. BLACK FRIDAY IS FRIGGING RIDICULOUS. SHAME ON THEM! I HOPE CHARGES GET PRESSED.
Truly sickening. I would never shop on Black Friday, because there are similar stories of people acting like animals every year. This can happen at any store, not just Walmart. These stores should discontinue Black Friday sales and "early bird" specials. It is so sad to hear how people will act just to get a great deal. My prayers to Mr. Damour's family.
i live about 15 mins from where this happened and it sickens me to the core…..you take a life for a fucking blender or elmo toy thats on sale and then after it happens, you won't leave because you waited in line since 12am??!?!?! ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS??! In today's paper, the reaction from his father was heartbreaking and one everyone shares: How could this happen??? Just trying to make sense of this……And whats even sadder was that this was just a temp job, not even his permanent place of employement, so if you think about it, he may have not even been there had it not been for his will to work and be productive….. first of all, that Wal-Mart is closer to the border of queens than it is to the residential area of valley stream. 90% of those people there on black friday were lowlifes coming in from Queens which doesn't have many Wal-Marts itself. Also, the majority of crimes that happen in Valley Stream are from people coming in from Queens and Rosedale. DO NOT blame the citizens of Valley Stream for this. DO NOT blame the citizens of Long Island for this. Queens is NOT Long Island.

This is a really a disturbing & unfortunate event and sadly not that surprising considering the area (I have family that live out there).
Xmas shopping brings out the worst in people, especially if there's some new hot-item gadget.
Nobody wants their gift-recipient to be the only one who doesn't get whatever the hot new item is. And they especially don't want to get aced out of it by their neighbour.
You know how on the airlines there's no congregating in the aisles or waiting for the lavatory?Should be the same for shopping- no waiting outside in mobs.
Can't really blame the incident on the Walmart corporation since it was an isolated event but maybe there was something about this particular store.
I try to remember to stay home on Black Friday and that last Saturday before Xmas as these are mob-rule chaotic shopping days.

I work for walmart, and I can say this year has been one of the wildest black fridays i've ever seen in my entire life. I certainly can say — i don't see the economy suffering this year with what i saw get bought and pushed out the doors in carts.

Wal-Mart is NOTORIOUS for treating their workers like crap, and ignoring safety issues (ie, not sending portable staircases to unload trucks until someone gets hurt, like my cousin who now has a permanent knee injury and will limp for the rest of her life). It doesn't surprise me at all that this happened.
As for people trampling over someone making minimum wage, yeah, that surprises you people? HA! People in other countries kill each over a futbol game, you don't think that people in a capitalistic country like ours, would kill over saving some money? We do that anyway with our outsourced resources!

Re: kelliek – Actually, the town is predominantly black. I would say it's about 85% black. And yes, my word is valid. My boyfriend used to work about 10 minutes away from that mall. He would never step foot in there.
Being a former resident of Long Island and a current resident of Queens, I can tell you that both areas are full of disgusting people with no regards for anyone. Yes, this mall is about 1000 ft from the Queens/Nassau County border but that isn't saying that people from Queens are inhumane monsters. To be honest, it's right next to Jamaica and Rosedale–which are both predominantly black areas. Black people are more likely to be on welfare and live in section 8 housing. Statistically in those places there are higher areas of crime. I am not trying to be racist, because I am stating the mere fact that instead of breaking away from the typical black american stereotype, the youth is still living off of welfare (when they can just get a fucking job) and living a life of crime because for some reason they feel they aren't worth any more than that. So with that being said, Walmart already caters to middle-lower class people. You want something cheap and made in China–you go to Wal Mart. Pair that with people who live on welfare, you have a recipe for disaster. And sure as hell don't want to hear ANYONE tell me I am fucking racist or wrong or anything. It is Sociology at it's very core meaning. It is the way the world works. And you will find this same bullshit in predominantly white areas, just to let you know. The fact of the matter is that when it all boils down a man lost his life.

There is none. I am a white female in my twenties raised in Nassau County and now I live in Bayside, Queens. Before that I lived in Whitestone. Both are predominantly white areas. You need to stop making Queens out to be a savage area full of black people because it's not. Hate to bring you the obvious news, but Valley Stream is a shithole. They have Rosedale for a neighbor and that's all I have to say about that. There is someone you all need to understand as well. There were OVER TWO THOUSAND people there. I would assume the people in the front didn't even push at all. They were more than likely being pushed by everyone in the back who were pissed off that everyone in the front was going to be in before them. Two thousand people is enough to fill a concert hall, and you really need to see the pictures to get the idea. It showed pictures taken by people who were actually there with camera phones or digital cameras and all you saw was a sea of peoples' heads going on forever. If you've been to a really crazy concert in one of the front rows you can understand how this would feel. Now instead of the barricade being in front of you to separate the crowd from the stage, imagine a door and a man about to unlock it. I am in no way defending ANY actions that these people took to get inside the store, but it wasn't the act of one person it was the influence of thousands of people who had no fucking manners and didn't know how to act civilized. I hope every single person who was there has gone home and contemplated what meaning their life has and how they can all be a better person in this world.

I have worked during every Black Friday for the last 8 years. My first 3 were at Wal-Mart and my last 5 years at Kohl's. I had to work at 3:45 am because Kohl's opened at 4am. On my way to work I always see a huge ass line at Best Buy. There is always mulitple tents set up and people wrapped around the building. This shit is ridiculous…I mean people ram you with their carts, they steal shit out of your cart, and are flat out rude as hell! I mean are these people not brought up with good morals and values and to respect each other! All I can say is anyone reading this that went shopping in this New York Wal-Mart ( you know who you are!) I hope you fucking rot in hell. You know karma sure is a bitch.
