Sean Avery Suspended From the NHL Indefinitely!

Who knew the National Hockey League was so strict???? And lame!
The NHL has suspended Dallas Stars' winger Sean Avery indefinitely due to some remarks he made before Tuesday's game agaist the Calgary Flames.
Avery is being suspended for talking smack about the Flames' Dion Phaneuf.
So, what did he say that caused Avery to get suspended indefinitely? Seems kind of childish to us to penalize someone for shit-talking.
Avery told TSN on camera that, "I am really happy to be back in Calgary, I love Canada. I just want to comment on how it's become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don't know what that's about. Enjoy the game tonight."

Turns out Phaneuf is dating Avery's ex-girlfriend, some D-list wactress named Elisha Cuthbert. We actually thought his comments were HIGHlarious.
Apparently the league's suspension is legal under Article 6 of the NHL Constitution. It allows for suspension due to any conduct "detrimental to the League or game of hockey."
This coming from a game where players are known to knock other player's teeth out????
Seriously, when did hockey get all uptight?
As for Avery, he'll be meeting with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman before a final decision is made on his suspension.

If you payed any attention to hockey, which I know you dont, you would totally agree with the NHLs decision. Avery has been trouble from day one…with his constant degrading comments and cheap shots that have seriously hurt some players. This was a long time coming for him. Although this is pretty tame from some other antics he has done, this was the final shot. Im surprised at you Perez that you think the degrading and sexist comment that he made was funny. Do you find it funny when people slander gays? Make gay jokes? Put gays down? I doubt it, so stop being a hypocrit, and pretending that your such a great person for speaking out against stereotypes when you yourself (in which you just proved with this post) find some "laughable".
if you followed hockey you'd know avery is long overdue for this suspension.
the NHL will not tolerate such a level of unprofessionalism because unlike football, shit talking players before or after games is frowned upon in hockey.
I'm from Edmonton where we love hockey more than anything and it's not that the NHL is uptight, its that Avery is a douch and proves that again and again…everybody is obviously sick of it! He's constantly trying to stir the pot, what a publicity stunt seriously…

The reason he was suspended was because this wasn't the first time it has happened. He is an asshole. He tries to be and because of this he pushed everyone too far and they had to do something about it too drill it into that thick head of his. If this had been his first offense it wouldn't have been taken so seriously. Also, shit talking is supposed to be saved for the ice not said to the media. This is hockey not hollywood. Avery was also was just scared. Dion Phaneuf and every other Flame would've kicked his ass easily. He was a scaredy cat and was looking for an excuse not to play! If you couldn't tell. 2005 - fined $1000 for intentionally diving, then fined an addition $1000 because of his criticisms of Colin Campbell for the first fine
2006 - Avery gets into an argument with an announcer for the Ducks saying "that Hayward was an "embarrassment", a "(terrible) announcer", and was a "(terrible) player".
2006 - Avery argues with an assistant coach and refuses to participate in a practice drill
2007 - Avery is fined for his pregame actions with the Leafs Darcy Tucker
2008 - Avery is suspended for his remarks about Dion Phaneuf and ex girlfriend Elisha Cuthbert

There have been allegations that he has called a black player "a monkey" and that he made fun of a player for having cancer. Those incidents couldn't be proven but this time he deliberately got the cameramen to turn on their cameras and said this rehearsed bullshit.
You say you're surprised that they're this strict in a league where they knock each other's teeth out. The ice is where this shit belongs. Plain and simple.

Okay, I live in Calgary (and naturally cheer on the Flames), I don't think Avery should have been suspended for his comment though. Bertuzzi messed up a lot worse and he's on our team now, Iginla said that if we want to cheer for our Flames, we have to accept them AS A TEAM, perhaps Dallas could learn a thing or two from us? Sean Avery is a douchebag who says and does things that are completely inappropriate, especially of a guy who has made it into the major leagues. He has gotten away with way too much, and it's about damn time the league comes down on him. I absolutely hope that Sean has played his last game with the Stars, let alone ANY NHL team. The day he was shipped off from the Rangers was a sad day, because I really wanted to see Jarkko Ruutu and the Pens take a few runs at him in the playoffs last year.

No, he wasn't nice but he didn't coin the phrase sloppy seconds (wasn't Cuthbert in Love Actually?)…and this isn't the first black eye for the NHL. But probably a first considering it didn't involve physicality.

His own teammates don't even like him, which is evident in the comments they made to the press regarding his disrespectful comment about Phaneuf and his gf. Personally I think it would have been funny to watch Phaneuf kick his ass during the game. Guess we'll have to wait til the Stars play the Flames again.
