Rock guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani is suing Coldplay for copyright infringement.
In a suit filed yesterday, Thursday, in Los Angeles federal court, Satriani claims that the band’s hit song Viva La Vida contains “substantial original portions” of his 2004 instrumental If I Could Fly.
Satriani is seeking a jury trial, damages and “any and all profits” connected to the alleged plagiarism.
Neither side could be reached for comment.
We gave the tracks a listen and noticed some similarities, but it will be up to a jury to decide if Satriani will be making any belated dough off of Coldplay!
