The "band" has been playing a round of radio holiday shows recently, and according to multiple sources, the lead singer is not singing live and the band isn't even playing their instruments live.

Our source even provided us with the band's set list from one of the recent radio holiday shows, which indicates when to turn the mic back on for lead singer Bill Kaulitz to address the audience.

A lot of foreign bands/singers never spoke english, but recorded their albums in english to appeal to a different crowd. Celine Dion's first few recordings were in english, though she couldn't speak it yet. Santa Selena didn't speak fluent spanish, but she was the #1 Tejano artist in probably ever! ABBA. A lot of 80s Hair bands. . .TONS of people were/are in this situation. I don't see it as a huge deal. And as for Milli Vanilli, they were homeless street dancers when Frank Farian offered them $10K to be the face of the studio singers album. Pretty sure any homeless person would've done the same.

Pop "singers" lipsync lots, rock BANDS don't, because it doesn't matter as much if your voice cracks or you hit a bad note, because it's a different kind of music.

Actually you're wrong. Unless Tokio Hotel had someone else sing and play their original tracks then they are NOT like Milli Vanilli. Lypsinching on stage isn't shocking anymore. Quality Music will breed quality performance.
Seen them (in NY) and they sucked big time. Nobody puts on such a bad playback tape - so I guess the played live.
That list does not prove anything. Most singers use sound-effects (reverb, auto tune, whatever). These effects make your voice sound sound good when you sing with a band behind you - but … Every sound guy has to be quick and turn this shit off at the end of each song.

I seen Tokio Hotel at the Fillmore in NYC back in February and they definitely played and sang live. Bill's voice was great and his stage presence wonderful… the band was quite average. In my opinion a "rock" band should sing live all the time … it is different when it comes to solo artists because it is quite the norm for them to lip sync.
I just seen Dir en Grey in Philly and their lead singer puked his guts out in the Starbucks bathroom and had been sick for a week BUT he sing sang his heart out and f*cking rocked us all into a frenzy. That is a ROCK STAR… take a lesson Bill.

I've seen this band live a few times and each time it was live. i didnt get to this years jingle ball so i dunno if they were live or not, from what i've heard from the people that went to the one on anaheim they were live. Every singer and band has had to do some performance in their lifetimes pre recorded. this is not news.

I have been to many of their concerts and they always sing a play live. Atleast it is only sometimes and not all the time like Britney and all those other fake blondes. It is also very popular to mime in Germany a lot of the stars do it when ever they are on tv or a live performance. Was this live? I was at their recent show in NYC in the front row and from what I could see they were definitely NOT lipsynching. In fact, at one point Bill (lead singer) hit the mic and turned it off, only when he turned it back on could his voice be heard again. I also agree with a comment below, not only would faking the instrumentals be extremely hard, but very awkward and obvious to see.

Disney made them insanely huge they didn't make them; they had already been a trio with a three piece backing band (now 4) for 2 years making their own music with a big cult following before Disney even signed them. They never lipsync when it's not venue technically necessary, they can perform stripped down acoustic, they can and do improvise and experiment on stage…they are actually musicians.
You can hate them, their style and their voices but musically and as performers they are on a whole different level that TH currently can't make any claim to, as long as they pull this sort of thing. Clearly lots of people find the Jonas songs meaningful and pleasurable. And why not ask a CRITIC what they think of the comparison, or NARAS (the recording industry academy), not a crazed superfan. The only thing that makes TH "cooler" right now is their look - more superficial than even the Jonas Brothers' ridonkulous marketing.

maybe perez hasnt been to a lot of concerts, but most bands talk to the audience in similar ways to get them hyped for the next song—and the sound needed to pick up a singing voice is different than the sound needed to pick up a talking voice—ever thought that the sound crew needed to know when he should change the bass and treble volume?

You don't know anything about microphones and how they work with live performances.
With the band playing and Bill singing, the have to change the way the microphone is heard through out the audience.
I know because I have done this many times for shows.
Why don't you do some more research before trying to spread rumors.

Perez, sweetie, I dont understand why you have such a strong dislike for tokio hotel. It seems like every time you mention them you only say something hateful. I dont want to call you a hater so I wont. And back to the point i been to a couple of Tokio Hotel concert and i am telling you honestly, not because i am a Tokio hotel fan, they play live. No lip syncing. I know they sounded horrible that night. They were just having an off night. I know they are not faking it because sometimes they make little mistakes here and their. And bill lets the fans sing some parts, but it is not all ways the same part it changes. And I also heard them play an acoustic set. Admit it it is hard to fake an acouctic set.
Even though i dont like you right now for hating on Tokio Hotel, i would always have love for you and I ask that you do a better investigation (anyone can make a fake set list at home)
