Sources reveal exclusively to PerezHilton.com that German "band" Tokio Hotel has been lipsynching and miming all of their performances in America.
The "band" has been playing a round of radio holiday shows recently, and according to multiple sources, the lead singer is not singing live and the band isn't even playing their instruments live.
Straight-up fakery!
Our source even provided us with the band's set list from one of the recent radio holiday shows, which indicates when to turn the mic back on for lead singer Bill Kaulitz to address the audience.

I actually had to make a username so I could comment about this. I never read your "blogs" and now I know why.
You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Like many people have said already, Bill had severe surgery on his vocal chords a little while ago, so of course he needs to take care of his voice. And so what if he lip syncs a couple songs? The whole band has been on tour for FOREVER and they HATE disappointing their fans so they never cancel a show. I've seen them live before, and I've been right up front so I know Bill sings live and the band plays live.
Get your sources straight next time.

Just like any other artist, European or American, Tokio Hotel have to do playback sometimes due to the venues rules. When they only played 4 songs, like Jingle ball, they did do playback but not lipsync! At their own concerts they never do that.

Millions love the fakes- that's not what Rock music is all about. Rock is being honest with yourself and your fans, and the right to put on a show that doesn't use lip syncing. That's reserved for pop stars.
This made me angry. There's no heart in bands that fake it. If they had an ounce of talent, they would do their show the right way. Obviously, they cannot and teenage girls worship them. Just another notch in the belt that a pretty face, no matter what talent level, sells out seats at shows.

Perez, Please get over the fact that you are jealous that they won Best New Artist and not Katy Perry. Their fans are awesome and I am happy to be one! One of the few Tokio Hotel fans in Japan.
From what I heard the fans were aloud to vote for that categorie and their fans are just way more then Katy Perry. Yes, She is your friend but that doesn't mean you two have to hold a grudge against them. You both need to grow up. Tokio Hotel are really awesome guys. Tom not so much…. They only mime sometimes. They have their reason but what bands or singers don't do playback at least a few times? Can't you give them a break they have been working so hard lately and barely have time to do anything but shows and TV appearances. Bill also had surgery not to long ago and he needs to let his voice rest a little bit. He sings live at all their concerts. They do playback on TV and they actually admit to it. Their fans still love them all the same. Miming is not as looked down upon in Europe. They don't want to do it but a lot of singers do. They are also recording their new album right now he might need to save their voice.
Katy Perry is nominated for a Grammy so would you just leave them alone! She is nominated for something even bigger! Please get over it and give them a fair chance.
Go to one of their REAL concerts and you will see they don't mime. They are very good live probably the best live band I have ever heard.

*Ahem* First off, i went to the Portland, Oregon concert(i'm from Chicago) and I talked to Jesse McCartney's manager. idc if you don't believe me, i have his email and we've been talkin about how the tour has been going. Anyway i was front row at that concert. i met Tokio Hotel. I love Tokio Hotel. Originally they were the reason I went. He asked if Bill normally lipsynched, i said no. he said later after the show that they WERE playing their instruments and he was singing some but Bill was sick as was the rest of the band. They left right after they were done. usually they stay until the whole concert was done. So your "sources" are not completely correct :]
They are not anything like Milli Vanilli, the reason they lipsync in AMERICA is because his English is all sorts of fail. In between songs when he was talking, he had the cutest Engrish accent ever, but I knew it was lipsynced cause even when he was talking about making the English cd they had to retake several things so that his english would sound good.
they sing great in German, and they sing live in German. We can expect them to be great english singers when they are not English native.

Tokio Hotel is AMAZING and Bill is HOT
I went to see Tokio Hotel perform at the Newport Music Hall in Columbus Ohio in October. Their performance was awesome!!!!! They did not use playback!!!!!! To be honest I am not sure why they even bothered to travel back here from Germany to play these stupid little concerts. They have sold out huge concert venues all over Europe. It is almost beneath them to play these shitty radio venues in the U.S. I am unsure why their management would bother to make them travel back to the U.S. to do these radio concerts only to use playback. If it is true and they used playback during the Jingle Ball concerts, then I am sure it was just because it would be too much of a hassle to travel from Germany with all of their personal band equipment only to do several small shows also because Bill has previously had vocal cord surgery and probably did not want to strain his voice while they are in the process of recording a new record. Also, they just finished their other tour here in the U.S. and then went right into the studio to record the new cd. Come on give the guy a break!!!!!! For their headlining concerts (THAT'S RIGHT I SAID HEADLINING - YOU KNOW THE ONES WHERE THEY SELL OUT ALL THE TICKETS!!!!) they perform live!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lipsynching is just bad news. I am usually not into pop because of this sort of thing. I am very disappointed to see them doing this. My sister is very involved in the fandom and people in the forums who LOVE them and were there have been telling her for the past week about the miming. These are people who LOOOVE them.
They just need to cut it out it makes them look bad. As fans I understand you want to defend them, but you also should want them NOT to do things that drive away people who aren't already superfans.

I've watched their performances on TV and online, and it's pretty obvious (not in a bad way, they sound good still) that they are performing LIVE. At least the singing. I don't know about these holiday concerts, but their own tour concerts and awards show concerts are done totally live, without lip syncing. Just YouTube "Tokio Hotel, Monsoon, EMA's live" to see what I mean. I know that the lead singer had to have surgery not too long ago on his vocal cords, because he got sick, but if that's why he's lip syncing now, you can't blame him for it. I don't understand why the band would fake the instruments, though. That just sounds like complete bullshit to me.

I am a Tokio Hotel fan so I feel that I need to say this. They may have used playback for the recent Jingle Ball performances, (which I don’t really understand why they would because they are very capable of performing well live) but I know that they perform live always during their own concerts because Bill will randomly let the audience sing by themselves for like one line and that would not be possible if it was a track and he was lip-syncing. He does that throughout the concert. He also will sometimes change up the notes and sing a harmony-type part instead of the way it sounds on the record during the concerts. They definitely play live and they are so awesome live.
Okay to all you haters. I want to see you try to do millions of concerts around the world, almost loose your voice due to medical reasons then continue to sing doing radio show as well as recording a new album without so much as a break in be and see how your voice fairs?! Sure, he may have lip synced for some performances - but lets look at the facts: They have done TWO FULL TOURS + three mini tours AND recorded an album - NOT TO MENTION MOST OF THIS WAS AFTER HE HAD VOCAL SURGERY.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that his voice is very overworked. And why? Because they want to please their beloved fans more than anything.
