The "band" has been playing a round of radio holiday shows recently, and according to multiple sources, the lead singer is not singing live and the band isn't even playing their instruments live.

I think Bill and Tom Kaulitz have amazing facial features. Damn, Bill looks better with make-up on than most Hollywood celebrities! TH wants to succeed in the US, and I definitely think they will. I have been to 9 Tokio Hotel concerts. I have been back stage at 2 of them, watching them set up and test all the instruments , watched the band perform LIVE, hung out with the audio and control board guys - watching them do what they do, and talked to everyone afterwards.
TH has used playback at the last festivals/jingle balls, but so what?
To say that ALL of their US performances was playback is an out right LIE perpetrated by a celebrity wannabe who wants a certain wild haired singer, who doesn't want him!
Playback is a necessity when a good live performance is not probable.
TH is not the first to use playback and they won't be the last. EVERY singer and band has used it at one point or another!
Bill Kaulitz actually sings his own songs. Milli Vanilli never sang at all, with their OWN voices. TH is an actual band. MV were models. IT IS NOT THE SAME THING, NOR IS IT A BIG DEAL!

Overweight blogger Perez Hilton has created a bit of a sensation by leveling charges against German band Tokio Hotel accusing the quartet of being this generation's Milli Vanilli.
It's worth pointing out that the concept of Bill Kaulitz lip-synching along with his own voice is very different than what Milli Vanili was accused of. Milli Vanilli perpetrated musical fraud by pretending to sing songs that they hadn't recorded. In fact, when pressed to perform, one of the members of the band was clearly awful.
Milli Vanilli upset their fans because they misled them. They pretended to be singers when in fact they were merely models, hand-picked for their good looks and musical talent. No one in their right mind could attempt to accuse Bill Kaulitz or Tokio Hotel of not being able to sing or play instruments. The band is obviously very accomplished and more than capable of performing live.

The truth is, many performers today use playback as part of their live performances. There could be any number of reasons why, but they all boil down to wanting to do a great show for fans, usually.
Clearly most fans of the Tokio Hotel won't support the decision by the band to do anything but perform live. Obviously fans want to see their rock heroes out there and giving it 100% live. But before pointing the finger, let's understand any number of mitigating circumstances could have caused such a performance.

I think that picture was photoshopped some could have easily pasted the Phoenix over don't believe everything you see. the real city and could completely remove the lines showing thats its a cut out.
