We liked it, but many didn't.

You know he can't sing…. and he is Fugly…… enough!!!!
Fast forwarded right past that shiz.
It seemed like his voice-changer-thingy (technical term) wasn't working properly.
He sounds horrible. He should be embarrassed. I'm sure he will blame it on someone else.

Well he performed both of those songs live at Jingle Ball Friday night at MSG. And he sounded better than he did on SNL the following night. So, i will chalk it up to either having way too much fun Friday night or straining his vocals at Jingle Ball
I thought it was good too..
I think he was trying to be too emotional for the performance, and it was almost hard to take his emotion seriously.
However, these performances go with the entire emotion of the album, so I guess thats a good thing..
The album would be much better as a whole if he turned up the fun-meter a few clicks.
man, i like kanye west, but he is a terrible singer, can't believe how out of tune his voice was, a complete disaster.

It was actually a lot better than I expected. Everyone knows signing is not his forte. He is a super producer first. Lyricist second. Singer…well not really. But people love his new album so it is what it is. When the lights fad during the hook and you just see the silhouette of him while the gigantic LCD screen symbolized chaos was fantastic and easily the best part of the performance.
dudee i actually think he got sick during the week but his sounded awful and obviusly perez is a suck up to people he idolize or are afraid of. i mean seriously how can u like that disastrous singin. i like kayne and all but this performance was below par.
I personally love Love Lockdown. I never listened to Kanye before his current album. It didn't appeal to me. A lot of today's current rap music doesn't.

Regardless of the fact that he doesn't seem to have a sense of pitch, and he clearly isn't a trained vocalist, I think both of these performances are fucking amazing. Who cares that he can't sing? He's one of the most innovative and exciting artists of our generation. He can do whatever the fuck he wants!

I loved both of them. Kanye's not a classically trained singer, he's a hip hop artist. And he definitely lives up to "artist." I can't recall a single performer in SNL's history to create their own stage. They all use just what's provided by SNL. Kanye embodies every definition of the word "artist."

He definitely wasn't lipsynching. But his voice needed some tuning. He was off here and there. He sounded like he was nervous. And you could totally tell when the back up track took over. I did like how he was back lit at times. So sad, because he's talented.

Perez, you need to get your nose out of Kanye's butt. His performance really sucked. This 'singing' thing only works on the album because he can have a million takes and lots of electronic tweaking. I hope he doesn't get so mad at people trying to bring him down that he almost breaks his MacBook Air again.
I liked it ALOT…you could tell he was totally feeling Heartless and I wanted to give him a hug…those lyrics…whewwww…sung, rapped whatever…genius !!!!

I know his vocals were not perfect but Heartless just tore through me. I'm not his biggest fan due to his massive EGO but I felt pain from him during this song. I think it has to do with his mother and realizing that all these material things mean nothing when no one truly loves you. He moved me.

I'm not a huge Kanye fan but I thought Love Lockdown was very emotional and intense.

Sorry, but I thought it was not only a very daring performance, but entertaining and, yes, good! I wish Kanye could just keep his mouth shut off stage so that I'd feel more inclined to buy his albums and throw him some real support.
One mistake that he made was he was hoping to reproduce his vocally enhanced approach to the song through his singing. I would suggest that he use more technology on his live performances. It was a bad PR campaign for his album.

I Really Liked it. He Was into the song and if he was lipshyncing then he pulled it off well cuz i didnt noticeee.. yall wish you could do it like kanyee.

Even though I am in the minority, I actually really liked. I thought there were times, when you could hear he has a good voice, i just think it was way to heavy on the voice changer, and it didn't totally work.
That performance of Heartless proves my point. The cartoon video he did for the song SUCKS! There is too much emotion in that song… it should have been a real video. I love Kanye West. I know people think he's a douche, but when it comes to his music, I think it's phenomenal! Kudos to him for doing something he isn't 100% perfect at and rockin it!

I LOVE "Love Lockdown" and it is the #1 tune on my ipod right now. But…Kayne sounded like crap during the performance. He sure wasn't lipsyncing cuz you can't do that so out of tune! I liked the energy he put into the performances though. But his voice? Terrible. It sounds great on the mp3 though. One thing I love about SNL…over the years it is amazing how many singers get exposed for the terrble voices they really have. Especially now in the digial enhancement age - most of these "artists" are studio and marketing creations. Perhaps Kayne is only that as well.

I loved it.. yes, it wasn't the best vocals but the backdrop was great and the performance had "artistic value"… just a guy singing his heart out.

it was utterly terrible. i watched for as long as my ears could take it. It was a pathetic excuse for a performance and lacked any kind of talent and musical ability he could barely sing the notes that were just speaking in rhythm and then when a somewhat difficult note came along he pulled the mike away from his face. then he lip synced the rest!!!! utterly horrible!!!
Sounds like his vocoder wasn't working. He had to rely on talent. Too bad it's limited to making a couple cool sounds he originally heard on a Bjork record and looping them over and over.

Okay, first off…..He is obviously nervous in those first few bars. It's obvious he is NOT lipsynching throughout both performances though in some parts a backing track is heard….He does get back on pitch about 1/3 of the way in the love lockdown song. What people don't realize is it's incredibly hard to sing onstage because often the accoustics are so bad that you can't even hear the music to sing to…..so he obviously wasn't on pitch due to those reasons. but most people on here immediatly listen and make that first impression of, "oh shit, he's off pitch" but if you listen, he does improve condiserably!!! i know because I've been there…several times. performing is hard!

The reason he was using a voice decoder is because he cannot sing. All of his singing vocals are doctored. I am glad he finally proved his ego is unjustified and that his talent is no where near what he claims. What an idiot.
HELLO PEOPLE — IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT THE VOCODER OR WHATEVER ROBOT SOUNDING THINGY HE USES ON THAT SONG.. AUTOPITCH OR SOMETHING WAS NOT WORKING. It was techinical problems. He still killed it. If one make THAT much money off of fans, there is no excuse for nerves or "bad acoustics". His voice was unsteady the entire time, even though he was standing still for the most part. Stop making excuses for an overhyped brat. Sweet karma bommeranging back at him for the VMA scowls he gave Brittany, another compatriot in hack-ness.
I am not usually a fan, but for some reason I liked this performance. I hope that he was NOT lip-singing/synching. as that would be a shame. I will watch the actual SNL episode on my tivo as it's hard to tell from youtube if it is live or "canned". Anyway, I thought the performance was a good one…

We now know how much he relies on the tricks of the studio to sing…..good songs but too bad they aren't sung by someone who actually has talent.
I like some of Kanye's music (don't really care for him personally) but he didn't sound very good here. Maybe it was an acoustics issue? I know he performed at z100's Jingle Ball the night before, maybe that had something to do with it.
He acts like a boob, but he is very talented. I love BOTH of these songs, but when he performed a week or two ago on GMA he sounded strange too. I really don't think he was lipsynching. It really sounds like exhaustion or having a bad set up….?
It was not a good performance. His voice sounded so hoarse and just plain bad. I felt sorry for him….not much for him to be arrogant about after this performance. At times, he seemed to be waiting for the background singer (or the lip-sync dubbing) to kick in. It kinda made me cringe.
i was never a kanye fan until i ended up with free tickets to see him this past august or whatever it was at msg - not only did he give a great show, but it was the first night (pre jay-z) and he gave the long rant about saying don't ever say he doesn't try, or do his best, and when all was said and done i walked out of there with respect for him, in stark contract to the pretentious prick i thought he was. So to be honest, he goes out and changes his style, and tries something new, - and arena HE IS NOT AS FAMILIAR WITH and fuck knows i can't sing but give the guy A LITTLE credit.
I think love lockdown sounded 'eh but its a good song, and to be honest I'VE GROWN TO LOVE HEARTLESS. The video, the song, its amazing and I think he did a great job performing it and was DEF not lip syncing there cause you can hear him losing his breath…..
So you know what, give kanye props where props are due, you tried something new, and people will always hate for the sake of hating - shits hit or miss, but don't knock people for trying new shit especially if you're a drone that goes to a cubicle every day or something weak.
props kanye. heartless was great. love lockdown was a bit of a letdown, but you try, and thats all you can do.the songs are still great AND HEARTLESS IS AN AWESOME SONG WITH AN AWESOME AWESOME VIDEO.

i love kanye and was rooting for him but he was weak when it came to singing esp during love lockdown his voice was scratchy and he couldnt hit high notes. maybe he was sick but otherwise i think both performances were amazing. hes really gifted. but, the hair has got to go!
