We already told you that designers Betsey Johnson and Carmen Marc Valvo are pulling out of showing their collections at the Bryant Park tents this coming season.
Even more shocking is the news that Vera Wang and her Fall 2009 will not be showing at the tents either – one of the biggest names in fashion to do so.
In lieu of a big flashy show, the house is opting for a cozier presentation at the Vera Wang boutique in SoHo with a slimmed down guest list of 100-150 people, instead of the usual 900.
In a statement, Ms. Wang expressed how she felt the move is the appropriate one.
To do big shows, you really need shock and awe. You need big accessories, you need power and drama in staging and in the clothing. I want to see what I think feels politically correct and feels appropriate from a business point of view at this stage.”
No one is safe from the recession!
