achrysler-logo.jpg

Chrysler just announced that they will be closing all 30 of their plants beginning this Friday for one month.

The car manufacturer claims it is nearing the minimum level of cash it needs to run the company and will have trouble paying bills after the first of the year.

Wow. Wow. Wow.

the world is coming to an end…….

  2. 2

    Oh No!

  3. 3

Maybe the execs should give back their salaries fro the past, oh I don't know, 15 years of millions and millions of dollars?!

    4

    that sucks!

  5. 5

"having trouble paying bills…" UH HUH. TO WHOM?? RITZ-CARLTON? RAINBOW ROOM? TWIN TREE GOLF CLUB?

  6. 6

    Sad…

  7. 7

    Happy Kwanzaa!

  8. 8

That sucks, but it's actually not unheard of for automakers to have shutdown in December. Correct me - nicely, please! - if I'm mistaken.

  9. 9

Who the fuck drives a Chrysler??

  10. 10

    This isn't on CNN…..

  11. 11

    Re: leaveit2beeker

If you're talking 15 years, that number will be in the billions!!

  12. 12

    yay!! down with crappy cars!

  13. 13

    HOLY SHIT, ok.who's next?

  14. 14

the OIL COMPANIES SHOULD BAIL THEM OUT, IF ANYONE.

  15. 15

That probably sounded insensitive, so I want to say that that really sucks for the employees. It's so unfair that they have to get screwed over like this… happy holidays. Hopefully, though, doing this will save their jobs, so in the long run it might make it better.

  16. 16

    yikes

  17. 17

That's effed up. Where the hell is the bailout money? Fire ALL OF THE CEO'S!

Another thing, are those fat bastards getting their usual xmas bonuses and all of that BS?

  18. 18

    Damn!

  19. 19

    Re: Teena9

They usually shut down for a few days around the holidays. Not a whole month.

  20. 20

    It is a power play.

  21. 21

Re: Teena9 – I agree. My parents work for automakers and they've had a lot of time off around Christmas ever since I can remember.

  22. 22

    Don't buy Chrysler!

  23. 23

    Re: celebsrwaste
They actually owe a lot of money to suppliers. Everyone should stop bitching about the nice things they have/spend their money on. These guys obviously worked hard to get where they are now. The money the companies spend at the "Ritz-Carlton" is practically nothing compared to what they owe to suppliers.

  24. 24

TIME FOR A BAILOUT? NOT THIS TIME, NOTHING IS GOING TO MAKE PEOPLE RUSH TO THE SHOWROOMS AND BUY CARS NOW, FILE CHAPTER 11 AND RE-STRUCTURE THE BUSINESS!

  25. 25

Congrats, Perez. You scooped before CNN.

  26. 26

Isn't this suppose to be a gossip site? Post gossip Bitch!

  27. 27

    WHAT THE F

  28. 28

    your dream come true!!!

  29. 29

WHAT THE F! How am I going to get my sweet 300 with the chrome now.

  30. 30

CONGRATS PEREZ! You scooped before CNN….

  31. LIP says – reply to this

    31

It sucks, but we will make it through. Totally sucks for MI right now. Almost the whole state will be unemployed soon. Fun Fun.

  32. 32

aah…and all those over-paid incompetent, ridiculous and arrogant TOP managers still will get their bonuses! Capitalism is ROTTEN…why do American employees ACCEPT this?

  33. 33

That really was a GOOD ONE! All these ARROGANT socalled TOP executives should be sent to HELL! INSTEAD, however, they still demand - and GET - their bonuses!

  34. 34

The Repulicans are taking notice to this and the environmental issues TOO LATE!!!

We may be fucked as a planet. We did it to ourselves. If only Gore was President maybe we could of had jump start little earlier on. Thank god Clinton is there to advise Obama. "Change", now…may be a little too late and merely "a dream".

The only ones that may be able to bail us out of worldly environmental crisis are the aliens…but I think even they are shaking thier head in disdain at this point!

Economically, the NEW WORLD ORDER may save us. Those who dont know, the secret society is in talks (worldly speaking), in making this come into play; The United Nations. The Bush family believe it or not are part of this secret society. All that has happened in Middle EAst and 9-11 were not accidents…New World order has been in talks for some time.
We wont be forced into it but brain washed through propaganda.

The secret society is what we have referred to as "the man".

  35. 35

    This fucking sucks!!

  36. 36

Re: Teena9 – YOU ARE RIGHT AND THIS IS NOT NEWS….EVERY YEAR, AT THIS TIME, ALL THE CAR COMPANIES SHUT DOWN……

  37. 37

If one wanted, one could see this come: For one or even two decades(!) car manufacturers developped car models that use LESS fuel or even electricity and solar energyand are economically friendly, ONLY US automakers still built and still do build ridiculously oversized cars with high fuel consumption which no one outside of the USA will ever want to BUY anymore!
US auto executives just focused on the share prices and their bonuses and remunerations….now, THIS is the RESULT: Employees have to pay the price for this total INCOMPETENCE and stupidiity of US corporate execs!

  38. MP says – reply to this

    38

Get rid of the too powerful unions and start over.

  39. 39

Is all their fault. Jeep are very attractive to people but a lot of people stay away from them because they suck gas like not tomorrow !

  40. 40

    I SEE DEAD PEOPLE….

  41. 41

BTW ..Ford also closed their plants….

  42. 42

    Re: uncle eldon
At first, I was skeptical of the bailout. However, if these automakers go under, the suppliers go under. If the suppliers go under, the rest of the automakers go under. The automobile industry is crucial to our economy.

  43. 43

Re: dig_1965 – I see. Thanks for clarifying.

  44. 44

These people have been fat, greedy and arrogant for too many years. It's about time it all caught up with them. It wouldn't bother me if they went out of business for good. Maybe some other company can develop cars that are environmentally sound with reasonable prices.

  45. zoey says – reply to this

    45

Chrysler has ALWAYS shut down COMPLETELY for 2 WEEKS at Christmas every year . They are just extending it 2 more weeks .

  46. 46

Re: JoJoStar – With what materials? Without the big three, at this juncture, the whole industry would collapse, and with it, our economy.

  47. 47

Re: JoJoStar – I had been in agreement with what you said until recently. At first I thought, serves them right for making cars that people aren't buying. However, and I know I'm repeating myself, sorry, the suppliers are dependent upon the big three. The smaller auto companies aren't going to sustain them. Then the other companies can't get supplies, and they would go out of business, too.

  48. 48

    Re: Kendra – Thanks.

  49. 49

How can they fix that? Hmm….let's see…oh, I know! Quit making the junk you're making now and go back making them like you did in your heyday, stop paying your execs so much, and get rid of the union. There…that ought to at least get you out of the red!

  50. 50

Re: Teena9 – My best friends husband works at the Chrysler truck plant in Warren, MI. They are generally always down for 2 weeks….tentatively. For the past 4 years they have been off for well over a month. However, they do not struggle. Yes it sucks they cant work…but they receive unemployment for the entire time they are laid off. Then the company makes up the difference. So lets say he makes $1100 a week….and unemployment pays him $600….Chrysler makes up the difference and send him a $500 check. So they don't really struggle. I mean it does take a week or so for it all to kick in.

I feel bad for my best friends family….but I dont understand how a company can pay their employees for not working….and then wonder why they are struggling. Boggles the brain !!

  51. 51

They're grandstanding for money. Let them go Chapter 11 and everyone will be better off.

  52. 52

The Big Three and many suppliers always shut down for at least 2 weeks around the holidays, and the past few years it has been for at least a month, so this always happens. I too have a friend that works at the Warren truck plant (just outside Detroit) and during shutdown they are payed unemployment and the United Autoworkers Union will also pay the workers to help make up the lost wages unemployment doesn't cover. Trust me I know, I work in transportation for GM and Ford in Detroit.

  54. 54

    Good!

that's the responsible thing to do….tighten the purse strings, cut back, get rid of DEAD WEIGHT!

  55. 55

Re: Duckie – totally agree as an american citizen…we fuck ourselves up with it, then rave about its so damn great and if everybody would only do it, they'd be right too.

when are WE gonna get our reality check?

  56. 56

Re: JoJoStar – I understand everyone saying the execs & companies deserved it. i wish they would rot in hell for what they've done to this country right now. i live in flint, michigan though. no matter how fucked up these execs acted financially…there are thousands and thousands of employees here around me everyday that are scared shitless. nearly an entire state. that's fucked up more than anything…we need major help here or it will be worse that we can imagine.

  57. 57

  59. 59

Glad I drive foreign!! Good riddance

  60. 60

This really sucks. I live in Michigan and it is tanking everywhere.
I was thinking of moving to California and now they are talking about massive tax hikes there also.

  61. 61

if there is a bailout, the suppliers that are owned billions should be paid. chrysler normally closes the plant for 2 weeks this time of year. there is NO place to put any car that is being made. NONE are selling. The LOTS are overflowing. The news and people like you perez, have made it known that if these companies go out, warranties will be void, so why would anyone by one of these cars?

  62. 62

What a shame, the CEO's and CFO's won't give up those corporate jets yet though… Having a hard time feeling sorry for a company that won't take care of their employees, but enjoy those bonuses and the "perks" of their jets that cost them millions a year in fuel costs alone. I think it's time that they take a long hard look at their business practices and make some changes that prove to the rest of us that they truly deserve that bailout money!!! Right now, IMHO they don't, but it's NOT the upper management that will suffer, it's the people that make those companies happen, and the snowball effect that will follow with the companies that supply them.

    63

Whatever assholes. This isn't about execs, and what they spend their money on. This shit is about all our hard working fellow americans who wont be receiving a pay check, or whose life's work is in jeopardy. This is a national travesty truly. The unemployment of all these workers which appears to be imminent has a hideous after effect to our entire economy.

I am glad I voted Obama. I just pray to god he doesn't quit before he starts. We need to all chip in and buy him a big ass shovel to shovel the big heap up bullshit that he is taking on.

  64. poop says – reply to this

    64

I also agree that we need to kabitz the bullshit union logic. They are fucking us all and making us completely uncompetitive.

  65. Bren says – reply to this

    65

I worked for Chrysler and they always took off 2 weeks at the holidays, so really they're only closing for an additional 2 weeks, not that big of a deal!

  66. 66

Stop crying babies! Us middle class americans cant afford to buy your damn cars brand new anyway. So fuck you and your million dollar bonuses! I'd just settle for being able to buy groceries! Ask your oil friends to bail you out…

  67. 67

Re: Aunksunamun13 – If he's making $1100/week he should be able to afford tobuy their Chryslers…not me!

  68. 68

This isn't just about execs…and the workers, well, read about their union tactics and benefits, they aren't exactly in the clear either. They refused to take a wage cut (this is $30/hr plus benefits, not minimum wage or anything), or else the bailout might have gone through. But I'd be surprised if they don't get their bailout when Obama comes in, since the unions are top donors for the Obama campaign.

  69. 69

When things become obsolete, and there is no longer a market for them, the market corrects itself and they go out of business. No one cried for the demise of the typewriter. If they ran those auto companies correctly and kept up with the times including management and union considerations, then they could have gone on. But, no one adhered to the prevailing market conditions and made any changes, both management and the union are at fault here. Sorry boys, your time is up. Now where do we go for our next car?

  70. 70

It's really no big thing. I worked for GM for 14 years and we closed down twice a year for reorganization (first 2 weeks in June and the last 2 weeks of December, into January.) It is more cost effective for the car companies to do so in the long run for budgets.

  71. 71

Re: aj – Fuck that "assume the postion cock wacker to porn cummin on the carpet pig" :)

  72. 72

Re: Teena9 – No you are correct. They usually close for 2 weeks every year. This is not a shocker BTW. There were talks for many months of all three shutting down for the whole month of December…Also it has already affected the automotive suppliers..don't be surprised if your job or someone you know's job is affected.

  73. 73

Thank you to all you skeptics who didn't want a bailout. In addition, GM is shutting down 21 plants. My boyfriend works for an automotive supplier, he is being laid off. I work for a software development company for auto engineering and i have been given a 2 month non-paid vacation. We bought a $145,000 house 3 years ago…we will now probably forclose despite the fact that we have not missed a payment (the only jobs available are $8 /hr part time work)

People who don't live in Michigan do not realize what the fall of the auto industry really means. IT is just a matter of time before it hits home.

  74. 74

    This is not good!

  75. 75

-WELL THATS WHAT YOU GET FOR BUYNG S- JAPANESE CRAPPY IMPORTS…. OUR OWN FOLKS DONT HAVE JOBS BUT THE JAPS KEEP SENDING THEIR PIECE OF SHIT CARS IN BY THE MILLIONS– WAY TO GO HYPOCRITES– AND ANYONE WHO HAS ANYTHING NEGATIVE TO SAY BACK TO ME—HERE'S AN ADVANCE- FUCK YOU! HAHAHAHA

  76. 76

Yeah lets just keep bailing out the rich fucks and leave the REAL working people JOBLESS!!!!!!!! I'm sure AIG is needing more funds after taking their long trips and renting whores.

  77. 77

    Re: butterflyjaz
Thank you Butterflyjaz Oil companies SHOULD bail them out. My finacee has been an Auto Worker for 25yrs and now he's afraid they are going to take his pension away. AND HE NEVER USES HIS HEALTHCARE.. It's his Supervisors walking around with fingers up their asses is who should be loosers their jobs. They don't do anything anyway.. Wonder when AIG will be bailed out AGAIN??

  78. 78

I lived in a town that was centered around a Chyrsler plant…uh-oh for them, now… :(

  79. 79

Re: jerseygirl1 – JERSEY GIRL TELLS THE TRUTH.. Go by any of these Chrysler Plants and half the cars the workers drive are IMPORTS.. Reap What You Sow Butt Heads you deserve to be out of work doing that.

  80. 80

Re: Mentalist – P.S. the BMW in the picture isn't really mine I just wanted people to think I was a Big Shot… LOl

  81. 81

    Re: jerseygirl1
Japanese cars, at least in the REST of the world, are NOT considered "piece of shit cars" as you say……This reputation applies more to American car brands….In my opininion, the excessively paid auto execs in the USA (and to a lesser extent also in other countries) cared more for the rise of their stock options and remunerations and bonuses than taking care and monitoring what type of cars CUSTOMERS(!) world-wide demand for! The U.S. car models are simply out of time, have beens o for more than a DECADE at least int he eyes of German customers, for example. They here have bought Japanese cars and cars from other Asian countries instead of the fuel-absorbing and oversized insensible cars that Chrysler. a.s.o. build!

  82. 82

    Re: Kimmers
    Hello Kimers,
I m observing this only from afar so I may not be entirely right, but I always got th eimpression that everything that s rotten in some way or other int he USA is coverd up and "smiled away" by exuberant patriotism (which, if e.g. Germans would brag about like that what be called fascist or rascist a.s.o….) and reasonless "optimistic" propaganda and throwing sands in the eyes of the "normal citizen" by their politicians and the managers of the larger combines. Now this is obviously no longer possibe, unfortunately these criminals(!) have their chickens hatched while the "normal" employee loses hibs job, house, peace of mind…..it really astounds me that there is not much of criticism in the direction of top executives who are the major ones responsible for this mess! They were PAID (extremely well and UNEARNED!) for checking the markets, consumer wishes, global competitors, etc…
