I never meant to be hostile. It's not uncommon for the things I say to be taken that way so I am always ready with a quick apology. I know that the people here, whether we agree or not, are still people and I wouldn't want something I said on the internet to affect one of you in your personal lives.

I want to know what your argument is, against gay marriage. I'm seriously curious to find out what you feel is the problem with it. However, please refrain from using religion or god as your reason. I want to know the logical reasons behind your feelings on the matter. I don't want to know what your religion has told you to think or feel. I seriously am curious if there is a decent argument against gay marriage that has NOTHING to do with religion.

Look, "same-sex" is not a "marriage." It's a civil union. Why all the hoopla about having a "marriage." Won't a civil union suffice? I know the most vocal folks are liberal and believe that we should live in an anything-goes society…but that mentality is wrong. A libertine society will be our ruin. Check history. If homosexuals want to have a legal partnership, then a civil union should be the option in order to have insurance beneifts, etc. A church marriage is just plain wrong. I don't care what any of you pseudo-intellectuals out there say about Christian hypocrisy…it's not hypocrisy….it's God's word. Think about it.

He tries to act like he wants to do some good by occasionally putting a link to a charity (He did it for Lupus and I was VERY appreciative) but then he mucks that up by making judgement calls about people based on their looks or their past bad decisions. I bet there are some things that he's not too proud of in his past but he wouldn't want us judging him for it. I am sure that he's a good guy…He just needs to grow up and realize what's really important.

I am a supporter of gay marriage and to think that I live in a country that can take away what has already been legal is totally insane! Fuck the government! And fuck those who voted for Prop H8te!
This will end up backfiring on the people who want to reverse the marriages. It will only draw more attention to the cause and ensure that equality is eventually met! I see this as nothing more than a modern day witch burning purge by absolute bigots! The fact that this is happening is a good thing in a way. The agenda of hate is a timebomb that will blow up in the faces of these bigots! Yes I'm straight and yes I support gay marriage and I do not support bigotry and the witch burners who stand against it!
I think putting minority rights to a public vote is always a bad idea and prop 8 is no exception.
There are lots of big issues currently but let me explain why I think this Prop8 deserves to be towards the top of the pile: because the people it effects have no control over it.
The economy is a big serious problem yes. But at least if you lose your job you do have the people's permission to look for another one. Nobody dictates what job you must have. There is no mandate even that you must work. You have the opportunity to choose.
The war is a mistake in my book but it's volunteer forces and we're working on a withdrawal plan. Nobody is really forced from their daily life to go fight over there. It's costing us more than I wanted it to but I can and do hold my Congressman accountable for that nonsense so I don't feel totally helpless about this.
But if you're gay, suddenly everybody else thinks they have an absolute right to mandate your personal relationships and they don't want your input. Nevermind you're 2 consenting adults asking for the same rights and privileges as other consenting adults. We hate you because you're gay so we're going to legislate you out of existence.

Boys and dogs can't marry, a woman and her cousin can't marry; there are some circumstances where two people shouldn't marry. Is it discrimination against cousins who want to marry eachother?! Is it discrimination against boys who can't marry their dogs?

I don't think that the Prop.8 supporters fully understand what the difference is between the rights granted to domestic partnerships and married couples are. There are rights that married couples have, that those in domestic partnerships don't.
Civil Unions still don't provide the SAME rights as a marriage.
It is unfortunate that people who don't fully understand the issue, were allowed to vote on it. Most of them were guided (or rather misguided) by their moral conviction. You see, now same-sex couples can no longer obtain a marriage license. Meaning not even a civil marriage is possible. Gays would not go in hordes to demand a religious ceremony, a civil one sufficed. They were able to do it for a few months before those driven by ignorance voted to have that taken away.
For those bashing churches, I think you should know that there are infact churches that have performed religious same-sex marriage ceremonies. Not because they were forced, but because they wanted to. Unfortunately, it is those with the deeper pockets that were able to influence the votes of those who didn't understand or care to learn more about the issue.
I hope that this Proposition is seen as what it really is. It was not about preservation or protection. Preserving and protecting would have implied making divorce more difficult in hopes of bringing it to a number less appaling than 50%… Not stopping people who want the same rights as those who take it for granted already enjoy.
