A Dutch artist, Frans Smeets, has created a sculpture of the U2 frontman, in Jesus garb with a Nike sign and Emporio Armani sunglasses. At his feet lies a dying African child in which he is totally disinterested.
The controversial work is entitled "Jesus Loves You Too."

All he needs is one of those weird collars with balls on it and he would look like one of those "In the year 2000" sketches on Conan.
Bono is a prince among men. He is a wealthy man who has committed himself to helping others. It does not mean he can't enjoy the fruits of his labor. Everything he does does not have to be perfect. You do not know what pressures he may be under in the business world. With his wealth comes great responsibility and scrutiny from trash who are not doing anything to help the wretched of this world. As for the filthy Dutch making "contributions" to help the Africans, no amount can make up for the oppression, suffering and theft from the African people.
Who gives a shit about this anyway? Why would the opinion of one artist equate to anything of value? The statue's a piece of crap anyway, it in no way ressembles Bono.
I love it, I'm sick of Glooney and Bono and all these other celebrities, Jolie too, how are all talk, make token visits, and then move on with their high style hollywood lives. AT LEAST OPRAH keeps her interest in one place and continues to work hard for it.

Frans Smeets needs to f-off. He obviously has NO idea what a great artist AND humanitarian Bono is. He's not a self-loving, hypocritic person. What is this artist playing at? Right now what he's done is pointless. a. this isn't going to stop Bono from continuing his efforts, b. Smeets making this piece isn't helping anyone. At all. If he disagrees with something the rocker/humanitarian's doing then he should DO SOMETHING that will help what he's fighting for instead of bashing someone else! You obviously don't have any clue why U2 records their albums outside of Ireland. They do it for inspiration…not to avoid paying Irish taxes. Almost all of the most-recent U2 albums have been recorded in other cities; Berlin, Morocco, Barcellona…… All of the U2 members reside in Ireland, pay taxes and send their children to school there. They roam around Dublin, without being harassed by paparazzi OR annoying fans demanding autographs. The whole band is very proud of their home town, even though two of the members aren't originally from Ireland (Edge/Adam Clayton)…. Anyways, do a little research before you try to bash someone you obviously know nothing about!!!
I think it's a good statement. Everyone always treats Bono like he's this amazing saint, but in reality he's totally self absorbed. I always got that vibe from him, so I'm glad someone created art to express that.

Yes, Bono has done some good work as far as raising consciousness about poverty in Africa.
I guess I wished that he would have used his influence to talk about alternative development models that actually address inequitable economic structures instead of reinforcing them and tailoring third world development to the needs of exploitative corporations.
The whole project red campaign kind of made my stomach turn. The idea of alleviating poverty in Africa by increasing American over-consumption is ridiculous.
And that he had those red cell phones or whatever. meanwhile people in Rwanda and the congo are being killed because of the cassiterite that is required for the phone.
