Did Scientology Play a Part in Jett Travolta's Death?

A new report asserts that Jett Travolta suffered from autism NOT Kawasaki disease, which the Travolta's have long asserted.
Autism is a condition that is apparently not 'recognized' by John Travolta's beloved Scientology religion. Followers believe that autism falls under the category of mental illnesses. They view people who suffer from mental disorders as defective human beings and teach that such 'illness' be treated through spiritual healing. They reject the use of drugs to treat mental conditions.
Seizures are a common 'side effect' of autism when its left untreated.
Jett was reportedly knocked off his feet by a seizure before he hit his head on bathroom fixtures and then subsequently died.
Makes you say, hmmmm, right?
Update: Travolta's camp is now claiming that "Jett had suffered from grand mal seizures in the past and had taken anti-seizure medicine which the Travolta's say did not work, so the medication was stopped."

You do not just stop taking medication for grand mal seizures. That is the most serious version of seizures there are. If one particular med. doesn't work for you, then you try another. No Neurologist would take you off the drug completely if you suffer from seizures often.

Actually no, he did not have Autism and did in fact have Kawasaki's disease. If you remember the interview Travolta did with Larry King about seven years back he talks about when Jett was first born he would clean the house continuously to keep germs away. It was only when Jett was around two that doctors discovered the cleaning solutions were causing brain damage. This is something that has been closely related to Kawasaki syndrome and not to autism. Get over your scientology hate and do your research.
People, please can it with the so called expert medical opinions and conspiracy theories. I'm not a fan of Scientology by any means, but irrespective of what the beliefs of the Travoltas are, this is not about their beliefs, this is about the passing of their only son and nothing can ever erase the pain of the death of a child. Also to the people who are querying why the Travoltas kept Jett out of the spotlight, has anyone thought that the reason they kept Jett out of the media not out of being ashamed but to protect him from the discrimmination the world gives to persons with disabilities and the pack of vultures called the paparazzi that would have had no shame in tormenting an impaired child/person because of their celebrity parentage. I really feel for the Travoltas. This is just terrible. And far from being a burden, special needs children often bring tremendous light into the lives of their parents. So I really feel for these people. And Travolta is friends with Oprah, and I can't think he'd continue to be if he were some jerk.

perez, i doubt you actually read all these comments, but i'm very upset about this post. the travolta's i'm sure are devasted by their loss, and posting something like this so soon after the death of their son is morally and ethically wrong.
unless anybody else, including you is a neurologist and has jetts chart and medical hx right in front of you, it is not okay to point fingers at what i have no doubt are very loving parents. other relgions have much stricter regaurds to meds and blood transfusion then scietology does- i'm in nursing school and they drill us on this, AND on the HIPPA act- right to confidentality on medical issues- the travoltas have money and i'm sure they looked into the opinions of many top rated doc's before stopping any medications- which probably was a doc's order anyhoo.

There is no medication that can cure autism, folks. If there was a magic pill that cured it, I would've given it to my son a long time ago. There are only therapies that can be applied to help the child cope and try to make progress. Anti-seizure medications are usually used to help prevent "meltdowns", which resemble horrible, screaming temper tantrums that these children often have, and the medications that are used can be extremely dangerous (sometimes DEADLY… look up the side effects of the drug Lamictal, and see if you'd put your young child on it), so if they decided against giving their son this medication, I can't say that I blame them.
These people need to be left alone to grieve for their child in peace, without all of the speculation about what they did, or what they should've done instead.

Jett could've still been alive and well if John and Kelly had given him the proper medical treatment. They didn't do that though because scientologists are against all drugs (even medical and over the counter drugs).
It's pretty effing obvious that this kid was neglected. Neighbors and other people that know the family said they believed Jett was autistic. A few of them even stated that he had trouble communicating.

There are various thearpies used to treat autism (speech, behavioral , applied behavioral analysis, etc.) Some meds are used to help calm them and deal with the symptoms associated with autism ( tantriums, inabiliaty to deal with change, hearing and vision sensitivity, self stimulatory behavior like rocking, self injury, extreme OCD, etc). Drs. don't really know why some kids/adults with autism have seizures . To say it is because of untreated autism that Jett had seizures is very misinformed and misleading, and very wrong.

To answer the question, yes, yes, yes! There are so many anti-seizure drugs out there, one of the newest and most widely used for pediatrics being Keppra. There is also Diltantin, Cerebyx, Valium, Ativan… so many different types of anticonvulsants and sedatives. The Travoltas should be legally charged for their son's death (since he was a minor), if he had a history of seizures and they currently denied him (or, "it didn't work"), treatment.

So sad. It's very delicate to speculate and come to conclusions until the autopsy is done. One report said Jett took Depakote to help control his seizures but that it didn't work. I find that a bit odd since one of my longtime friends has epilepsy but she takes the same drug and it works fine for her but then again Lori (my friend) does not have autism, as Jett most likely had if he had trouble communicating. There was something very wrong with the child and it's just tragic if that crazy ass cult Scientology had something to do with his death. More bad publicity for then along with the stinkbomb that "Valkyerie" has become!!

it's sad and i had suspected it all along, every doctor on this earth will basically say he was austistic, but to john who refused the idea he just said he had some rare disease, but ppl who have that disease rarely if ever have seizures and other fine motor skills and mental capacity that little boy had, and for the meds to work john had to give it some time,which he didnt so now this accident happened he had his seizure he wasnt on meds and died- all scientology preaches, that so called religion is so sinful and teaches that if people have any problems they are failures, unfortunatelly john passed the seizures down to his kid then killed him because of scientology

My daughter suffers from the effects of Kawasakis. At no time has she had ever experianced any of the symptoms that Jett had to live with. I truley hope that pathologists are able to find the underlying cause of his unfortunate passing. If he could have lived a fuller life with the correct care, I hope that his parents and the "church" of Scientology are held responcible both in a court of law and the court of public opinion. My prayers are with his friends and family.
travoltas brother is a film maker who made a documentary about autism. he met 20 different kids and said (and i quote) "i see jett in all of them". And apparently Kelly wanted jett treated but was overridden by the control freak that is travolta. this was a few years back. so i don't think people are starting conspiracies. these rumours have been rife for a long time. unfortunatley, when you have so much money and are so far removed from reality, you kinda start thinking your invincible. i think they've paid a very high price for their stupidity and i feel for them.
It is very sad for the Travolta family. Just wanted to clear up a comment Perez made about Autism. You had mentioned that Autism could lead to seizures if left untreated. In fact there is no treatment for Autism that, there are therapies. Siezures are a reality for about 10% of kids with Autisim. My son is 11 and is the Autisim spectrum he also has a siezure disorder. In fact he had two seizures on new years day. My heart goes to the Travolta family
I am not a fan of scientology, BUT the real issue here is parents lost a loved son. You do not know Jett's condition and you do not know what his parents did for treatment.
Seizure disorders are deadly, there is no guarantee taking meds will stop the seizures…the meds don't work for all. Plus there are terrible side effects (esp for kids) on the meds. I know a lot of parents (not scienctoglists) that do not use the meds to treat seizures. No matter how the child is treated, when they die, the parents have to deal with the sad loss and guilt of did you do the right thing. Seizures is not a one size fits all disease, it has a lot of variables that make treatment a nightmare.
If you do not know all the circumanstances, the best thing you can do is say a prayer for the family and not repeat rumors. Maybe the public will become educated about seizure from this tradegy.

It's sad because I love John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston. I think they are a beautiful family, but it is clear that this child suffered from Autism. I am a nanny that works with an autistic child and my mom is a teacher that works with many autistic children and she agrees with me. I know that it is not allowed in their religion, but that does not mean that you ignore it because you don't believe in it. He could still be alive if they would have done what any person with an autistic child does now. It's just sad because it could have been stopped. But, I do wish their family the best and maybe other people will learn from this.

My nephew has autistim and seizures (until he had brain surgery to stop them). Looking at the photos of Jett, he certainly has some of the same characteristics. My nephew was very small until he started the anti-seizure meds then his weight and size ballooned. He is doing well since the surgery - no seizures for almost 2 years. His anti- seizure medications quit being effective also. There are options out there besides medications that do work. None the less, this is a decision that his family had made and now they must live with the sad consequences. My heart feels for them.
