Both Ann and Matt were completely unproffesional in this interveiw. Matt let his personal beleifs and opinions get in the way of what should have been an informative interveiw. Ann was obviously still bitter about getting replaced on yesterdays show and instead of dealing with it in private she took the immature route of making sure veiwers knew she had been wronged. I don't like her, not one bit, but at least she is out there doing something. The problem is mainstream media which focuses on sensation and scandal rather than real issues. That was not a book interveiw, that was a ten minute personality clash that should have occured off camera. Lauer and Coulter wasted everyone's time.

If you READ her entire piece on the subject…her "bashing of single mothers" is that to many women PURSUE being a single mom, to many men don't take responsibility and help raise their children and the media glamorizes life as a single mom. Ann is saying that the media has happily killed the nuclear family so that people don't WANT to pursue it. She correctly cites numerous studies of kids who come from single parent homes who have higher high school drop out rates, higher teen pregnancy rates and higher prison rates as compared to teens from 2 parent families. She is saying THAT is what is a major problem in this country—we have lost the desire for the 2 parent family and sensationalized single motherhood so much that it is hurting our future generations.
Read her ENTIRE argument and then debate her statistics if you so choose–but don't take some commercial clip twist of a part of her point to bash her….

1. I just watched a video on YouTube in which one of those Fox News anchors was complaining about a damn video game. It was too graphic and it has too much sex. Nevermind that it's rated M for mature and the fact that you really don't have to buy it if you don't want to. And she says liberals victimize themselves.
2. I happen to know a couple of people who probably would have been better off without a father. I don't need to go into detail, you can probably already guess. So she needs to look around at real families. Sometimes statistics are wrong. She should know all about wrong statistics.
3. Finally. . . she complains about single mothers. So what about all the teens who get pregnant and want an abortion? If it was up to her they wouldn't be able to get one. So they'd have to have the baby and then what? Yep, that's right, raise it as a single mom.

Ann's stance of being pro life does not FORCE people to be single moms—their unwise choices do. Just because someone got pregnant does not make them a single mom—having sex with a low life creep who leaves you when your pregnant makes them single moms…
But, either way–THAT is not the focus of her (Ann's) argument against single moms. It is those that PURSUE being a single mom. Teens that want to get pregnant…Thirtysomethings that "need" a baby to fill a void, and then irresponsible infantile men who leave the families they created. She specifically is calling out the media through t.v./movies… who make it look easy and cool to be a single mom and says the media does not do enough to report the statistics/studies regarding the dangers to kids and society.
As to your assertion that you know people better off raised by single moms… I am sure there are many cases that that is true—but the fact is that there are MULTIPLE studies that show that many AREN:T —but apparently to mention that fact is "insensitive".

If we prevent women getting safe, affordable birth control and abortions become illegal, there needs to be social structures in place to help the single parent be a successful parent. Also, birth control can fail and stats show that abstinence only programs do not work, in fact they have a higher rate of pregnancy than the general teen population.

Let's be realistic here. On the one hand, we make sex this big, important, taboo thing that can only be done by responsible, married adults. On the other hand, we talk about how great it is and we talk about it all the time. Think about it… teenagers want to rebel. They always have and always will. If you make sex into this huge deal and make it so forbidden, they'll want to do it. Sex is so easy for them to have because they're surrounded by people of the opposite gender every day.
The responsibility doesn't lie with liberals or conservatives or the media or even the schools. The responsibility lies with the parents. Once parents get off their asses and stop letting the TV raise their children, we won't have such a problem with teen pregnancy. Why do you think teens get pregnant on purpose? Because they either want to keep their boyfriends or want to feel needed. If their parents are open with them and make sure they understand what pregnancy really is (a.k.a it's not a walk in the park) and if they have an open relationship with their children and play an active part in their lives, those problems can be avoided.
Stop putting the blame on the media– they exist for reporting news and entertaining people. If Americans stopped watching these "liberal media" shows, then the media would be forced to change. It's all in our hands, we're just too dumb and lazy to do anything about it.

Chris Mathews, Bill Maher, Keith Olberman have ALL been just as "rough" with their tone and words and yet no one gives them the criticism that Ann gets.
